Chris Cain Hi Chris yes when all your gear and experience pays off and your all comfy in your tent, and the weather is terrible out side, know what you mean, thanks Pat
Just found you Patrick and you just took my top outdoors TH-camr position! That calmness when you sit in those winds, I love it! And you didn't even mention bad weather in the title. Shows that you got some proper experience!
the part of the video where you were having a cup of tea in the tent with the inner door open really showed how spacious the soulo is. what a great feeling: hot drink, warm in sleeping bag, feeling the wind on your face and being safe and secure in the tent. i know it well and recon its the closest ill get to knowing what a millionaire feels like. nice bit of adventure and nice video. thanks for sharing. ATB
+43whisky Hi yes the soulo is a great tent for one person very spacious but light to carry. i was hoping to try the tent in the snow but with a mild winter and very little snow that will have to wait to next year now. Thanks for watching and commenting Pat
What a brilliant video this is. Great demonstration of the tent and excellently filmed. I'm 78 and done a lot in my life but never had facilities that are available nowadays . Really enjoyed it and I look forward to seeing more of you. Thank you
+SMILEVIDEOBRITAIN Thanks for your comments and I,am impressed with the number and quality of your videos. I enjoy wild camping in the Autumn and Winter as cooler and a bit more of a adventure so hope to be filming later on in year. Thanks again Pat
+Ian Macfarlane Hi Ian thanks for watching and comments Hope to be out camping in 2016 if it ever stops raining. Happy to camp in snow, wind, freezing conditions but not rain. all the best for coming year Pat
Now that's putting a new tent to the test. Great demo video. Other pluses: looks like it has good head room for a solo tent, and the bright yellow interior certainly adds a cheery ambiance even in such foul weather. The vestibule looks like it proved well protected and convenient for cooking, too. BTW, I came to this video from my YT recommendation list, probably because of all the Dean Reed videos of the PD that I've watched. So howdy from da (Wi)sconsin Nort' Woods.
Great video, Patrick. Considering this tent and the Niak as a winter option. I have an Akto and although its a superb tent it lacks space. Nice run through of the Soulo. Thanks for sharing!
Hi yes I was in a similar position owning a Akto, great lightweight tent but a bit cramped then moved onto the Soulo which is a great roomy tent and very pleased with it, thanks Pat
Hi yes did not expect iot to be so windy but it was good to test the tent and handle putting up taking down in the wind usually learn better ways of doing it, thanks for comments Pat
The Hilleberg Soulo looks like a very good tent! If it can keep the midges out I'd recommend it to my chums. I pitched camp on the slopes of Mullach Nan Corrian (Mamores) one evening only to have a few sheep for company. They used the tent as a shelter from the wind. However they provided some stability and warmth. They had a fright in the morning though...
Wow! This tent really impressed me. As soon as you got thoughs first couple of guidelines pegged out that tent was solid against the wind. Great video.
I have a Tarra and i discovered that by pinning one stake down and the erecting the poles to can then stretch the entire tent out as you pound the other stakes in. It will save time and give you the largest footprint possible. Nice video!
I love your films. Informative and detailed product knowledge, with a real heart-warming edge and full of character. Keep up the good work, and thanks!
Pat, I will suggest you check out the Delta Ground Anchors. Their stainless steel ones are crazy heavy but the yellow ones from plastic work very well even in extreme windy conditions and due to their shape it's not so much about their length as much as the angle at which it's being pulled. They're cheap too! They are a pain to carry because they are so big!
Hi Pat, hope you're well mate. This and your back garden review convinced me to add the Soulo to my Hillëberg collection. I can't wait to try it out. Cheers for the reviews brother. 👍🏼
Hi Dougie yes I ,am feeling great, glad you got the Soulo a great choice for one person backpacking tent should serve you in all seasons, all the best Pat
Brilliant upload Patrick. I’ve been saving hard for my first Hilly and decided to go for a Soulo. They are bomber proof and although expensive worth the money. Thanks again. Simon 👍
Hope you have some great camps in your Soulo, and I know you will, I know it's a lot of money, but we'll spent, and over 10 year's use it's not bad, all the best Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 Thanks Pat. Heading up to the Lakes soon and planning to buy it up there (George Fisher). They are going to show me the tent up first and then make the final decision. My nephew already owns a Soulo and loves it. Love your videos mate, keep doing your great work. :)
+John Stephens Hi John glad you enjoyed the vidio and hope you get all your gear sorted and I,m sure you will have many enjoyable years of wild camping Thanks Pat
Great video Patrick, looks like the weather was pretty wild at times. I love it up on White Edge, like the look of the Hilleberg too. thanks for sharing
+Dean Read Hi Dean We certainly are lucky to have the Peak District on our doorstep, so many great places to wild camp. Your Australia trip looks very interesting, a trip of a lifetime. Thanks for watching Pat
What a brilliant video Pat. Fair play to you, I had a Soulo previously but swapped it for a Unna as it is 10cm longer and with me being 6'4" the extra length is most welcome. That was some serious wind. I've been woken myself some nights by wind and rain to the point where you think the bloody tent is going to blow away. This shows why they cost so much money. But you can't put a price on comfort. Keep the videos coming mate.
andrew rushton Hi Andrew like you say the tents are expensive but knowing you are safe and secure and hopefully several years of use its worth it in the long run, thanks for looking and enjoy your camping trips. Pat
Just ordered mine today with a footprint from Taunton Leisure for £510..not bad I thought. I am looking forward to getting out in a couple of weeks ai Brecon.
Sounds great Dawn you are now the proud owner of a great tent. Hope you have some great camps and adventure,s in your new tent. Hope everything goes well, let me know how it goes, all the best Pat
Got your self a bombproof tent there mate. I put the shorter pole in first then the 2 longer poles over the top. Stops you getting the ridge in the umbrella piece. Also pull the umbrella piece as tight as possible via the 4 straps, stops it flapping about in the wind. Hope you longer out of your XL Y pegs, used mine once and bent 4 of them. Maybe I was too rough lol. ATB Mark.
Hi Mark Thanks for info I,ll put poles in as you say next time, sounds better. When I pulled pegs out with cord grips couple of them did bend but straightened out ok Pat
Great vid and interesting to hear your thoughts. Know your camping spot like the back my hand. So lucky to live in the peak... Great to see you wearing my winter jacket of choice.
A good lot of entertainment watching you Patrick, I always enjoy your clips. The wind looks like it was turning the tent into a parachute near the end. Hi Hi Ted
Nice looking tent. At the floor behind you, I can see a 2-3 inch gap. I don't think you need the vent open for fresh air if the wind is lifting up the sides like that. Thanks for the great review.
Hi Jude the tent is well ventilated but I find opening the top vent does get rid of any condensation on a damp night, thanks for watching and comments Pat
Good video pat. I've just bought a soulo. Hope it arrives for this weekend. Going up helvelyn I think.. That's some bad wind, but it looked straightforward. Well done putting it away too. Thanks for sharing that.. Atb
Don't know how I missed this superb wild camp but glad I stumbled across it! really enjoyed your review of a true bomb proof (If there is such a thing) Tent :) Tim
+savedpurplecat Hi Tim Enjoyed this camp as it tested my new tent in far windy conditions than I expected. The tent performed fine and hoping to try in snow next couple of months, last camp in snow was with my Quasar plenty of room for winter kit, I just wonder how Soulo will be for storage of extra kit like wet rucksack and extra gear. Thanks for comments and enjoy your camping, Pat
Hi! Pat! Really nice video with all the natural sounds with your commentry. Not keen on music since I try to recall my few younger years in the UK.Best Wishes and a super tent but price ouch !
I'm currently battling to find a tent that'll tick all my boxes. Just when I think I've found the one...I learn that the inner has to be pitched first. Deal breaker every time for me! This is the first time I've seen the Soulo being pitched - absolutely perfect solution for wind and/or rain. Great video. Now I just need to find £700!
alan kelsall Hi Alan glad you liked my video, I,ve wild camped for many years but been able to film it and share with others of similar interest has added a new dimension Thanks
Hi Ian,not too bad as long as tent is secured to something like a rucksack is the main thing so it can,t blow away. The Soulo is then straight forward to set up, practice makes perfect, thanks Pat
Heya Patrick love your vids. I watch a lot of your escapades. And as I live in Australia (but born a Brummy) its interesting to see the differences. Lol. I was looking at your corner guys, and was wondering why you tie them to the poles and the tent. I was thinking (without instructions) that i would only have tied them to the tent, and let the shock cord poles do their work. As this setup appears to rigidly tie the tent to the poles at the guy connections. Rather than allow some flex for the wind. Just wondering. Cheers and keep up your amazing adventures. And i always get hungry watching you cook,
Hi Richard, nice to hear from Australia I remember this camp for the wind! Wrapping the guy lines round d the poles was in the Hilleberg instructions and does seem to give additional strength and stability to pitching, although ever seen it on other tents, all the best Pat
Thanks for Sharing Pat; You look to be about the same age as me and doing the same thing i.e. Solo Camping trips (my son thinks I'm barmy). I used to use the car a lot but would always worry about Parking the thing up for a few Days in isolated Places unattended - I'm thinking of doing the Train Journey instead these day's..
Dr_ nincompoop Hi there, I get the same comments from my 2 sons, but I can,t think of a better place to be than in a tent high up on a isolated moorland, thanks for watching pat
Kens Crack Of Doom hi and thanks first time I had used the tent in the hills, I do have a very detailed review on the Soulo and pitching in a video done just after this camp, should've of interest, all the best Pat
Wow man your the camping guru , so informative , your pics of younger you could?ve mistaken you for jim morrison amazing, sure be great to do a camp up peaks some day
Stuart Rogers Hi Stuart and thanks couple of years ago this video but just been out and have very similar windy wild camp coming up next few days, thanks Pat
hi darren yes really great tent but expensive. As most people you start off with what you can afford, but you are out wild camping enjoying the great outdoors and enjoying the adventure. Then when you are as old as me you have the money to afford a great tent but not the energy to make full use of it. Enjoy your camping , all the best Pat
Very nice. Like the tent I have the akto it’s a bit small for me yours is better. I really hate putting up tents and packing away in the wind and rain. I always end up piss wet through. Not far from you Sheffield/ Barnsley
AllTheGearNoIdea Hi now what you mean about packing up in the rain, but a night in those conditions does feel more of a adventure, the wilder the better for me, all the best Pat
Hilleberg instructions say insert the short pole last which I take to mean on the outside. However, on their own pitching instructions video, they put the short pole on the underside. This is very confusing. I would like to know for sure which is correct and why. There seems to be two considerations, strength and the support of the canopy. I used to have a Caravan Keb back in the late 80s and early 90s which was designed by Bo Hilleberg. It was a good tent until the flysheet degraded and tore. I tend not to leave my tents pitched for days on end these days - usually just an overnight pitch so UV degredation is less of an issue. Great video - probably the best on I have seen on the Soulo. Thank you for sharing.
Steven Mann Hi Steven, glad you enjoyed the video must admit when i first put soulo up I followed the instructions and put the short pole up last, I did,nt realise untill you mentioned it that hilleberg,s video did it the otherway round. I emailed hilleberg this afternoon and they replied straight away saying people put the poles up either way as if there is no definate way. CHEBSOOT further up my log prefers putting shorter pole in first and with Hillebergs video doing it this way might be way to go. I,am going to try both methods and see which I prefere,Thanks for watching and for the info, Pat
Patrick Dickinson Thank you for finding out the definitive answer from Hilleberg, even if there isn't one! I've got my Soulo on order and look forward to testing it out in the Highlands.
Ho Paul yes I was surprised at the number of deer I think I counted at least 70 deer in two large herds when I camped there and have seen them when walking up there tried to get close but they soon moved off aq I approached, thanks for comments Pat
+Andrew Wallace Hi Andrew yes it was a good night to test my tent and I was very pleased with how it performed , looking forward to trying the Soulo out in the snow hopefully in next couple of months, thanks for watching Pat
Good vid Patrick but I prefer low profile tents like Snugpak one man ionosphere which I have just bought, you never know I might bump into you one day on the peak district in 2016.
+craig paisley Hi Craig must of missed your message or would of replied sooner, yes the low profile tents are good and have there advantages, I liked the Soulo especially if weather is stormy or wet as it gives reasonable living space. Alot of the time when weather is going to be fine I use a bivvy bag or hooped bivvy as the Rab Ridge Raider, as you can imagine very low profile but not so good if wet and all cooking etc has to be done outside. I,ll keep my eye open for you this coming year, all the best Pat
The main guy lines wrap the pole and ARE the "clips" for much of the tent body. No choice other than to release the downwind side/end first. when its this windy, there sometimes is no good method to take it down.
+rafael661kc Yep its a great tent for one person well made with quality materials ( Hilleberg) reasonable lightweight and easy to set up evene uin windy snowy rainy weather would recommend. Thanks for watching Pat
Hi Pat, what are your thoughts on this tent, 4 years later? I have a Hilleberg Enan, which is a superbly made (and lightweight) tent, which is ideal due to general weight of all of my camera kit, etc. Only issue is it's single pole, so it's flappy in windy weather.
Hi Alistair been very happy with my Soulo, reasonable light, roomy for one, and OK for winter use, can be a bit flappy, again when windy but can,t have everything, I would give it 9/10, thanks Pat
stick yer head out! lol. I wear earplugs on occasion for the noise but try not to fully block my hearing/safety awareness to much and/or too often. Just the foam type I use
Did you lose any pegs? consider putting the pegs into their sack which should be in a pants pocket each time you pull one out of the ground. I own & overnight in the Hilleberg Enan. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
fleabag72 Hi Lee Yes it was first time pitched the soulo tent and I was very please with it. Hope to try in snowy conditions next winter if we get any snow that is. Thanks for watching Pat
Andy Windsor Hi Andy yes bit pricy but a great tent and hopefully may last me many years to come. Make a point of anchoring it to my rucksack before try to pitching it.The noise, well that's wild camping for you, just been out in similar weather with a different tent hopefully on TH-cam next couple of days, Pat
Hi Mark The camera I,ve used for all my videos is a Sony A37 DSLT, for this vid I had a new lense a 10-20mm sigma wide angle which I used for inside tent and setting tent up etc gave alot wider angle than standard kit lense. Thanks Pat
Hi there had similar problem when deciding, the Unna was a possibility but went with Soulo thinking it maybe stronger with extra pole, and reasonable porch to cook in. difficult decision as no tent is suited to all conditions. I tend to bivvy in summer use the Soulo rest of the year, all the best Pat
+Hip Hop England Hi there yes it was a nice spot to camp the area is known as White Edge, grid ref for site is SK26427585 its about 1 mile from a car park at Curbar Gap or the otherway about 3 miles from the Grouse Inn Pub. hope you enjoy it , thanks Pat
Hi Bob sometimes that extra room is invaluable especially in winter when you have all the extra gear and spend a lot of the time in the tent. Hope you enjoy the new tent, all the best Pat
+Stephen Kennedy Hi Stephen I sometimes use the Soulo in summer as lightweight and roomy enough for one depend on the weather. I tend to camp out using bivi bags a lot more in summer, I have a Rab ridge Raider hooped bivvy very lightweight and comfortable. I also have a basic gortex bivvy bag which I use on long walks when I want a really lightweight and simple overnight camp. Hope useful and thanks for watching Pat
Hi Robert sorry for delay in answering, the tent does have a good ventilation vent in the roof which certainly cuts down on condensation, all the best Pat
+Solo Bikepacker Hi the main camera I have been using is a Sony Alpha 37 DSLT, it takes great video main reason I bought it about 2 years ago. Often get a lot of wind noise from built in microphone so I used a remote mic sometimes on camera or next to me when filming with a muffler fitted cut out most of wind noise. Thanks Pat
Hi Michael it really packs down small. Can,t remember size in lites but about 8 inch diameter by about 8 inch deep with a bit of compacting really goes to a small size, all the best Pat
i bought a tipi tent from armyshopdreden i paid 85 eur 7kg i can put my bike in it i cand stand up in it and i can put the tent faster than all these light tents just a steel pole in the middle and the pegs help support it i dont go back to fibre glass rods that brake
PigHandButtah Hi ,i went for the Soulo rather than the Akto as I wanted the tent for winter camping and to be able to take snow loading and stand up to high winds. The akto is a great tent and lighter but I think the Soulo is stronger and more a 5 season tent
waddewel Hi there, my interpretation of 5 season is that 4 season can be used all year including winter, where 5 season can be used all year but is designed to take high winds and not collapse under from heavy snow fall. The akto is 4 season but I would rather be in the soulo if there is a foot of snow on top. Thanks Pat
Hi Patrick tx I DO know where that is it's a blooming windy spot great place to test a tent as long as the test goes well. Might be a bit miserable if the tent turns out to be no good but that one passed with flying colours. Tx again mate are you having a bit of a lay off? looking forward to more vids.
Lee Stanley Hi Lee As with most wild camping in England you are not supposed to camp in the Peak District without permission. Most people who wild camp are responsible people who camp discreetly and leave no trace when they leave in the morning. it would be difficult to find out who owns a bit of moorland and who would you ask? anyway thats my thoughts and thanks for watching, Pat
Daniël de Vree Hi Daniel, the Soulo is a good test for one person. I thanks you would be Ok as we rarely sleep straight. but with legs tucked up. If you could try one for size first would be best Hope helpful Pat
Removing a guyline to secure it to your backpack while taking tent down looked dodgy, tent almost got flattened. Id have dropped the top of the tent before touching the guylinez, no need to secure it anyhow as pinned down by the pegs on the groundsheet.
Love hearing the sound of rain on the tent and knowing one is dry and warm inside

Loved how you anchored the tent to your backpack while tearing down 👍... Love the sound of rain on a tent 😊
Yes I had visions of my tent flying across the Moors with me chasing after it ! Thanks Pat

Great Vid Pat. First one Ive seen with soulo pitching. Nice tent.atb
Kens Crack Of Doom hi and thanks first time I had used the tent in the hills, I do have a very detailed review on the Soulo and pitching in a video done just after this camp, should've of interest, all the best Pat
Great video Pat. 👍
Thanks Grant, good test for a new tent, thanks Pat
Wow man your the camping guru , so informative , your pics of younger you could?ve mistaken you for jim morrison amazing, sure be great to do a camp up peaks some day
Glad you enjoyed it Dave, was a few years ago this one but remeber that wind, great test for the tent, thanks Pat
Great video Pat!
Stuart Rogers Hi Stuart and thanks couple of years ago this video but just been out and have very similar windy wild camp coming up next few days, thanks Pat
lovely tent, looks cosy, wish I could afford one
hi darren yes really great tent but expensive. As most people you start off with what you can afford, but you are out wild camping enjoying the great outdoors and enjoying the adventure. Then when you are as old as me you have the money to afford a great tent but not the energy to make full use of it. Enjoy your camping , all the best Pat
+Patrick Dickinson I usually take my tarp as I do allot of touring on my bike but am looking for a one man tent, cheers
Great video! Inspiring for sure.
Hi Tim really good camp bit windy but good test for my tent, thanks for watching and all the best Pat
Oh definitely the wilder the better for me also. Had many a climbing adventure after parking at the Fox. Thanks for the reply regards Chris
AllTheGearNoIdea thanks Chris, all the best Pat
Thanks for the response. That was very helpful.
I was around there about a week ago. Watching the deer. :)
Ho Paul yes I was surprised at the number of deer I think I counted at least 70 deer in two large herds when I camped there and have seen them when walking up there tried to get close but they soon moved off aq I approached, thanks for comments Pat
Thanks for sharing. Makes a change to see a proper weather test. Cheers
+Andrew Wallace Hi Andrew yes it was a good night to test my tent and I was very pleased with how it performed , looking forward to trying the Soulo out in the snow hopefully in next couple of months, thanks for watching Pat
Another very enjoyable vlog ☺
A bit windy this one but still a enjoyable camp, thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 😊
@@markevans1973 thanks
Taking down the tent looked like how trimming a sail round Cape Horn must have been in the old days.
Yes a líttle bit windy, thanks Pat
I,ll keep my eye open for you this coming year, all the best Pat
great video pal !
Hi yep a bit more windy than anticipated but good test fof tent, thanks for watching Pat
Hi Patrick, you're sleeping bag looked compact and big enough too! What make is it and where'd you get it? Loved all your films. Regards . Fraser
That wind would be enough to drive me round the bend!
birdie399 yeah it was a bit bad but a good test for the tent,Pat
Nice one Pat,The only UFO would be you flying over Sheffield hanging onto your tent ???? All The Best.
Yes it was a bit windy, but a great way to test a tent, luckly I managed to hang onto it, thanks Pat
I don't think you should unstake the guy lines until you fully de-clip the poles during high wind.
The main guy lines wrap the pole and ARE the "clips" for much of the tent body. No choice other than to release the downwind side/end first. when its this windy, there sometimes is no good method to take it down.
thanks pat will be taking a ramble there atb
awesome tent!
+rafael661kc Yep its a great tent for one person well made with quality materials ( Hilleberg) reasonable lightweight and easy to set up evene uin windy snowy rainy weather would recommend. Thanks for watching Pat
awesome man.....
Very windy indeed, still the tent did good...
MrQuintonia Great Camp and a great test of what was my new tent, still using it so it proves it was good, thanks Pat
THE SKY IS MOVING!!!!!!
Might be the wind, moving the clouds along, thanks Pat
Patrick Dickinson I find this happens a lot when filming with older go pros.
@@gavrielhamlin6917 Most of my filming was done on a Sony DSLR, only just got a GoPro, Pat
stick yer head out! lol. I wear earplugs on occasion for the noise but try not to fully block my hearing/safety awareness to much and/or too often. Just the foam type I use
Kaylem yes would not go camping without them can make a difference if noisy with wind and rain, or on a noisy camp site, thanks Pat
agreeeeed.
take my hat of to you guys,
Hi Bob glad you enjoyed the video was a year or so ago but still remember it as it was a very windy camp, thanks for watching Pat
Thank you for the video
+ElPasoTom Hi there and thanks for watching, was a great place to wild camp hope to camp there again in 2016, all the best Pat
Did you lose any pegs? consider putting the pegs into their sack which should be in a pants pocket each time you pull one out of the ground.
I own & overnight in the Hilleberg Enan.
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
Nice to hear from you all the way from Reno, usually check round for all pegs, but good idea with peg sack...... thanks Pat 👍
Looks a good setup pat
Atb lee
fleabag72 Hi Lee Yes it was first time pitched the soulo tent and I was very please with it. Hope to try in snowy conditions next winter if we get any snow that is. Thanks for watching Pat
Nice tent but not cheap! Jesus, you wouldn't want to let that go in that wind! Must be hard sleeping in that noise, you could use ear defenders?
Andy Windsor Hi Andy yes bit pricy but a great tent and hopefully may last me many years to come. Make a point of anchoring it to my rucksack before try to pitching it.The noise, well that's wild camping for you, just been out in similar weather with a different tent hopefully on TH-cam next couple of days, Pat
Looks like a nice tent, good idea on anchoring it. Looking forward to your next video. Cheers Andy
great video what camera you using
Hi Mark The camera I,ve used for all my videos is a Sony A37 DSLT, for this vid I had a new lense a 10-20mm sigma wide angle which I used for inside tent and setting tent up etc gave alot wider angle than standard kit lense. Thanks Pat
Nice review. Did you consider the Unna? I am bouncing back and forth between getting the Unna and the Soulo.
Thanks for the reply.
Hi mate Great videos where was this camp ? wanna try it out !
Thanks pat
IO bought a Tarra which is like a mansion for one person. the extra 5 pounds is worth carrying. IMHO
Hi Bob sometimes that extra room is invaluable especially in winter when you have all the extra gear and spend a lot of the time in the tent. Hope you enjoy the new tent, all the best Pat
Thanks for the video and happy camping!
Bob McGarry WhichTerra model did you buy? Sounds interesting🖒✌
Good video, what is your summer tent?
+Stephen Kennedy Hi Stephen I sometimes use the Soulo in summer as lightweight and roomy enough for one depend on the weather. I tend to camp out using bivi bags a lot more in summer, I have a Rab ridge Raider hooped bivvy very lightweight and comfortable. I also have a basic gortex bivvy bag which I use on long walks when I want a really lightweight and simple overnight camp. Hope useful and thanks for watching Pat
Thanks that was very helpful!
I am new to camping and hill walking, and the gear can be expensive, so I don't want to make too many mistakes
really enjoyed the vid mate, subbed ya, ATB Richie
Kaizer soza Hi Richie glad you enjoyed vid, looking forward to trying tent in more stormy and snowy conditions Thanks Pat
"To err is err human, to err forgive err divine."
Err I,am getting better now, thanks Pat
👌👌👌👍.......
Nice one Kevin
Nice Vid Good test
Thanks Steve, yes a bit windy, but a great test, thanks Pat
thank you for your review, however; does the tent have ventilation in order to avoid condensation?
Hi Robert sorry for delay in answering, the tent does have a good ventilation vent in the roof which certainly cuts down on condensation, all the best Pat
All good but you forget the kite!
👌
Just a bit windy on this camp thanks Pat
8:33 is that breakfast i hear ......oh right no its popcorn
Akto all day long !!
I like my Soulo, did have a Akto once superb lightweight tent, I just needed a little bit more room for winter.....thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 looking forward to some more in 2022 ..
Keep up the amazing work pat
Either I’m drunk or them clouds are moving abnormally 😂😂
BRETT CONNOR Hi Brett those could are normal so it could be the other, thanks Pat
dear patrick with tent for 2 pers you can recommend if i am on a budget ? max 200 pounds .grts from belgium from danny
Hi Danny I,am a bit out of date with modern tents, I still use what I bought years ago, there are alot to chose from now..... thanks Pat
good camera what is it
+Solo Bikepacker Hi the main camera I have been using is a Sony Alpha 37 DSLT, it takes great video main reason I bought it about 2 years ago. Often get a lot of wind noise from built in microphone so I used a remote mic sometimes on camera or next to me when filming with a muffler fitted cut out most of wind noise. Thanks Pat
Hi Pat what size stuff sack do you use the pack down the Soulo ?
Hi Michael it really packs down small. Can,t remember size in lites but about 8 inch diameter by about 8 inch deep with a bit of compacting really goes to a small size, all the best Pat
Patrick cheers 🍻 if I get one will look for this 👍🏻
i bought a tipi tent from armyshopdreden i paid 85 eur 7kg i can put my bike in it i cand stand up in it and i can put the tent faster than all these light tents just a steel pole in the middle and the pegs help support it i dont go back to fibre glass rods that brake
Jasper Edwards hi Jasper sound a sound strong tent, with one pole easy to put up, should serve you well, thanks for info, Pat
Jasper Edwards Whats the name of the tipi tent, m8???🤔🤔🤔
I'm confused about the Hilleberg tent range. Why didnt you get the Akto? Regards.
PigHandButtah Hi ,i went for the Soulo rather than the Akto as I wanted the tent for winter camping and to be able to take snow loading and stand up to high winds. The akto is a great tent and lighter but I think the Soulo is stronger and more a 5 season tent
Patrick Dickinson confused 5 season ?
waddewel Hi there, my interpretation of 5 season is that 4 season can be used all year including winter, where 5 season can be used all year but is designed to take high winds and not collapse under from heavy snow fall.
The akto is 4 season but I would rather be in the soulo if there is a foot of snow on top.
Thanks Pat
Hi pat is that spot just down the road from wooden pole ?
MrJimbaloid This site is on White Edge overlooking Big Moor, another nice location, thanks Pat
Hi Patrick tx I DO know where that is it's a blooming windy spot great place to test a tent as long as the test goes well. Might be a bit miserable if the tent turns out to be no good but that one passed with flying colours. Tx again mate are you having a bit of a lay off? looking forward to more vids.
have you ever witnessed or felt any weird activity while camping? like paranormal or something you couldn't explain, any UFO's?
L Wii Hi and thanks for question but no everything has been normal, sometimes the area feels very atmospheric with the views and hills, Pat
oun't you afraid........of the Ound of da Bask'avilles ?
Gohot229 yes I ,am very afraid of the Pubs hopefully I will never meet it, I hope, Pat
What were the wind speeds?
Do you permission to camp in the Peak District?
Lee Stanley Hi Lee As with most wild camping in England you are not supposed to camp in the Peak District without permission. Most people who wild camp are responsible people who camp discreetly and leave no trace when they leave in the morning. it would be difficult to find out who owns a bit of moorland and who would you ask? anyway thats my thoughts and thanks for watching, Pat
DO YOU HAVE MULTI NIGHT CAMPS?
Usually just overnighters, too much other stuff happening at home, thanks Pat
Can I fit in the Hillberg Soulo with my 1.95 lenght?
Daniël de Vree Hi Daniel, the Soulo is a good test for one person. I thanks you would be Ok as we rarely sleep straight. but with legs tucked up. If you could try one for size first would be best
Hope helpful Pat
Thanks for the quick reply Patrick, I'll try one very soon. Today I tried the new Wild Country Helm 1, terrible tent for a tall (Dutch) person.
Pat, thanks to your review I bought mine yesterday. Had to cross the Netherlands to see one pitched, but the moment I tried it I loved it! Atb, Daniël
Hi Daniel and glad you got your tent, I ,am sure you will enjoy it and have some great wild camps, all the best Pat
WOW
Colin Worley thanks Colin remember this camp for the wind and how well my Hilleberg Soulo tent performed, thanks Pat
Removing a guyline to secure it to your backpack while taking tent down looked dodgy, tent almost got flattened. Id have dropped the top of the tent before touching the guylinez, no need to secure it anyhow as pinned down by the pegs on the groundsheet.
ground round here is very soft would not depend on ground sheet pegs, one secure guyline suits me
Hey pat are you on face book buddy?
Timmyturnridge Hi I,am not on facebook maybe a older generation thing, thanks for lookinf at vid, Pat
thats windy
It's always windy round here in winter, good test of the tent, all the best Pat
