    I've experienced this personally. I've never been skinny, but at a BMI of 21.5 I had a very attractive face. I was often approached by strangers and given compliments about my face by people I didn't know or didn't know well when out. At a BMI of 27 I am now very much below average in appearance, my face lost all definition. I do look like a different person now that I'm overweight, and I am also treated completely differently too. People are just nicer to those that they perceive as attractive, without them even realising it I bet.

      Yes that's just natural. We assign positive character traits to attractive people and treat them better than less attractive people. Nature is brutal. As an Asian, most of us need to have super low body fat in order for our facial bone structures to show. On the other hand, I see a lot of Caucasians with very contoured & slim-looking faces due to prominent bone structures even when they have relatively high body fat. Hence why you see these plus-sized models with decent-looking faces even when their bodies have like... 50% body fat

    • @wickedwonderland9831

    Age is a huge component in this discussion, though. Most of these examples are young people. A little extra weight for older people can be helpful to reduce wrinkles. if you've always been skinny tho it doesn't have an effect. the best anti aging strategy is actually to stay at the same skinny weight your whole life. fat loss ages your skin at any age (except when you're still growing obviously). being bigger and losing weight will always show off destroyed/stretched out connective tissue which makes the skin less tight. this is true for a 25 year old and for a 50 year old. it's a pity cause i lost that chance for life already as a chubby teen/young woman. wish someone would've told me before that the damage will be unreparable.

      i don't really know enough to go super in depth, but if i recall correctly, stress negatively impacts the skin and hair, which are quite important aspects of attractiveness, and well anxiety would lead to higher levels of stress, depression could lead to lifestyle changes which would directly affect many factors of facial attractiveness, leanness as mentioned here, people with depression can tend to over or undereat, and im fairly sure insomnia or hypersomnia can affect the eye area slightly.

    You can say beauty is "only skin deep" or "in the eye of the beholder" but even if it's only subconsciously, someone's weight and attractiveness makes a significant difference in how we perceive and regard them as a person. Not by choice necessarily, but by instinct or human nature -- again, subconsciously. For better or worse, looks really do matter.

    • @purpurina5663
      @purpurina5663 2 ปีที่แล้ว +84

      I agree. I have a bit of a theory that we reject people who are too overweight 1) for evolutionary reasons (ie not able to hunt, not healthy to procreate and care for the offspring, a body shape that doesn’t look “normal” in biological standards), but also for a psychological one: we sense there is a weakness, an incapability to govern yourself, a lack of willpower. We all have weaknesses, but for some reason obese people have “chosen” to carry theirs on the outside.
      Not saying it’s fair or correct, only that it may be our reaction at a subconscious level.

    With some of these photos, it's not just weight loss, it's age/maturation. Showing someone when they were a teen or very young adult and then showing them years later is bound to reveal different facial results. Naturally, their face will look more mature, and that factors into attractiveness as well. Even when I was at my thinnest running track in high school, I much prefer my face now. I legit look better. I've fully grown into my face as a woman in her mid-30s and that along with maintaining a healthy body weight contributes to personal attractiveness.

I'm not sure if this is that big of a deal in this video, but it's something to keep in mind

      Well, I am the guy who is forced to take photos for friends and family. These things have a great effect. Like the further you are from the face the better it looks, if your camera is capable of zooming in without losing picture quality you can see it for yourself. This basically changes the focal length. Use a zoom lens for this or if your mobile has optical zoom you can test this out on the mobile too.

If a woman is morbidly obese, chances are she has no cheekbones, no jawline, no definition. Extremely fat faces don't look good on women, there's a difference between cute and obese. Just Google extremely fat faces of morbidly obese women and you'll know that it's not pretty. Ofcourse becoming underweight takes away the attractiveness too but obesity ruins attractiveness. TW: ED (Anorexia Nervosa)
    I went to face change while losing weight in 2015. Wanting to take care of myself, I went from a normal 50 kg for my 1.59 height to just 35 kg. THE WORST TIME OF MY LIFE. My face? No longer attractive, I looked like someone had performed a really bad facelift, oh and my skin was yellowy. My body? Equally horrifying. Obviously, aside from all the other physical complications that came with my ED: cold all the time, foggy thinking, sore in all my bones, no periods, digestive problems (when sick, during recovery and even now 7 years later, when I never had them before A.N.).
    What this guy says Is true. START TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF BEING VERY CONSCIOUS OF WHY ARE YOU DOING IT FOR. Believe me, I started thinking that I wanted to do something for myself, like I never did, and before I noticed I was sick (I knew about the illness, but I didn't know how it appeared or why). Now, I'm more conscious that I always had trouble with the way I saw myself, and I understood what happened to me at that time. I don't regret it tho, I learned from my experience.

    I’ve always thought that a fatter/rounder face is very attractive in women. Which is why women want mid face fillers to give a more youthful look. And buccal fat removal ages a face heavily, but also makes a face appear a bit sickly. Which is why I suspect, amongst several other reasons, East Asians look younger a lot longer. This is what I try to tell my 81-year-old mother. She's still so beautiful. She was a gorgeous teenager, a beauty in her 20s, 30s and 40s. The only time she lost her looks was when she went up to 180 pounds in her 50s. She lost the weight in her early 60s and regained her beauty. I tell her that of course she has wrinkles (who doesn't when they're 81!), but her facial shape hasn't changed, and she's still lovely. You see this with celebrities a lot. They look great when they're young, but put on fat around the face and it really (sometimes radically) changes their looks. Unfortunately for some people the opposite happens - their faces thin out. Look at Sarah Jessica Parker for example. She hasn't gained or lost a lot of weight, but her face just thinned-out as she got older. Same thing happened to me and it sucks! I looked nice in my late teens and 20s, but for some reason my face started thinning out in my 30s, despite the fact that I weighed the exact same amount.

    i feel that i have had similar experiences regarding this :,)
    i used to be very skinny naturally before puberty, but then afterward i gained some weight. around 11-14 i started gaining weight normally, but i also started struggling with bulimia and starving after overeating. it's something that i still somewhat struggle with today. it messed up my metabolism and body overall.
    at my "peak" or when i was first very fit, i did a lot of walking to and from school each day, running cross country for my school, etc. i ate 2-3 meals a day, mostly home cooked food.
    afterward i started to binge eat then starve so it did change my appearance quite a bit. a lot of yo-yo dieting, gaining and losing weight throughout the span of a few weeks, months, and years. my family also started to order takeout and fast food more often. nowadays i'm sort of chubby appearance wise, but i'm not skinny nor completely as fat as i used to be.
    i still feel that i don't look "as pretty" to some people because they saw me when i was skinny. i honestly just wish i hadn't started binging in the first place. i wish i could have continued eating normally lol
    i feel that i should also add ive always been short. even now i'm around 5'3" but i haven't been tall in my life. i feel that i could have also grown more during puberty if i hadn't starved myself so much. or maybe to do with the way my body distributes fat, i'm not exactly sure.
    i used to get treated a lot better when i was skinny, versus when i was fat. right now i think i'm at an average ish weight but still i notice the difference in my performance in sports / in general after gaining too much weight. i feel a bit miserable that i can't quite get back to how fit i was back when i was healthier.
    in my family & culture, in vietnamese culture at least we still have the ideal body as being very thin. my mom grew up in the 90s with the "heroin chic" body type, and i guess she never grew out of her habits from the time either.
    i've actually started running and walking more often again, and i feel a bit better however a lot of the fat is still around. particular around my face, thighs and stomach. :( it's something i'm really insecure over.

    Inflammation is huge in the states. When I go to South America twice a year, I loose inflammation overall and my face looks slim and more attractive. Puffy and inflamed in states I look chubby and less attractive.

    Love learning about this sort of stuff. Really goes to show how differently people treat you based on looks alone.

    I knew this from the get go. I always had chubby cheeks and wish for years for them to go away ugh. I would bust my balls working out to make my face skinny lol. Then the alcoholic bloat was the worst. My face has gone back to normal since I became sober. I do think it's a sign of health for a lot of people. Having all the weight on my face and still do today but not as bad was an indication I was not healthy and I wasn't for sure.

      @he was thank you! Have you seen the before and after pictures of people becoming sober? It really makes a difference. I am so grateful I did not compromise my physical health to a point of no return. I had friends die from cirrhosis. We were slowly killing ourselves. The struggle is real, I knew I had no choice but to become sober if I wanted to live.

      Yoooooo almost three years sober and I've never looked better. Others DEFINITELY commented on my weight loss and lack of facial bloating! Congrats to you!!!!!!!

    Well, I guess I'm the odd one because when I had a BMI of about 22 I looked like a skeleton and it made my face look way longer than it is, it was horrible.
    While now I'm about a 29 BMI and I look more youthful and lively.

      I looked older when I was at a 16 BMI. It made me look more gaunt. The 20's are a healthy range for me as well.

    I agree, and at the same time, I've seen people who were good looking, then lost weight, and no longer look as good.

    Nooo, not the turkey neck 😭 I still have some of that at a bmi of 22, but it was so much worse at the time I was overweight. I never thought of me as terribly unattractive but when I look at old photos of me I look so tired, old and even kinda sick in my face with the excess fat. Despite the slightly deeper wrinkles I look younger now than in my overweight years as a 20smth

    Not always the case, losing weight could age your face considerably, also, bone structure may affect the perception of eye positioning, my eyes seem closer to each other than they should "looking like a cyclop" because of the bone structure , not because of facial fatness

      There's a very few exceptions to the rule. But in general in majority of cases, LOSING WEIGHT makes you look better, and it definitely makes you HEALTHIER as well

    0:29 Really interesting video! Just an FYI, you probably shouldn't be using a pregnancy photo to talk about unhealthy fat. Gives off the implication that it's "bad fat", when adipose tissue actually plays an integral role in assisting with fetal development and growth, it's needed. Women can also have endometrial bloating, which can take up the appearance of 'looking fat'.

    • @DragonQuest27
      @DragonQuest27 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And what evidence do you have that's a pregnant woman? Or are you just assuming?

    • @sna3606
      @sna3606 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@DragonQuest27 where it's located and how it's positioned indicates either pregnancy or bloating, which is why I mentioned that.
      Fat hangs more loosely, while swelling of the uterus makes you more "puffy".

    im a little overweight but i feel like i do have a good bone structure under the fat and i think i would look better, but its really hard for me to lose weight because of lack of motivation. this video motivates me to lose weight cause i actually have a chance to look better.

    Wow this is so true. That’s why cosmetic surgery to modify facial features does not make some people more attractive.
