    “I would just ask that you take care of me,” is one of the saddest lines in TV. He’s so broken that he can’t even ask his sister to help him through an emotional crisis without it sounding like a contract negotiation.

      I think this scene hits so hard and is punctuated by the fact that the first moment at the end of this season when Shiv should have protected him she didn't. The one thing he begged her to do at such a vulnerable moment 😔

      One of the most beautiful scenes in the whole series. Kendall has to keep this “tough guy masculine” persona at all times to please his dad. This was his one vulnerable moment where he just wants to open and be vulnerable. Beautifully done.

    The staggering irony of this scene is that Kendall refuses to tell Shiv why he won't be the successor because he's worried she'll use it as leverage. And eventually she does, to prevent him from becoming the successor.

    I think the saddest part is Kendall wants to tell Shiv, but he knows that he can’t trust her with information that could be used to blackmail him in the future.

      That's the saddest aspect of the Roy family. The only people in the world who understand them are each other - but they have been destined to go down a path of always playing a conniving game of power, thus relegating them to never trust each other

    Anyone else catch the importance of the end of the scene? Earlier in the episode when Logan was in the panic room, he was worried about Kendall more than his other children when he heard there was an incident and someone killed themselves. During this time, Kendall was on the balcony climbing up to the railing and peaking over the edge.
    At the end of the episode there is a 10' high glass barrier installed at the same railing. Clearly Logan found out where Kendall was, likely saw video surveillance footage form the balcony, and installed the barriers shortly after. Kendall leans against the glass at the end of the scene defeated and trapped, like someone had found out and ruined his escape plan.

      @cultofgaurav 3 ปีที่แล้ว +338

    • @PaulTraces
      @PaulTraces 3 ปีที่แล้ว +378

      @@cultofgaurav While it’s reasonable to assume the glasses went up after the guy shooting himself but I believe there is a reason there is a CCTV camera shot of Kendall going to the roof right at the beginning of the episode, it shows he’s being watched (by Logan likely) and like Krisitan said above notice how concerned Logan was about where Kendall was in the panic room? He definitely thought that could have been Kendall involved in the incident. Just goes to show Logan never has his eye off him.

    Logan did a number on all of his kids. Instead of thinking that her father has something on Kendall, Shiv thinks Kendall has something on Logan. Logan manipulated his kids into not trusting each other so that he could always have the upper hand.

    • @vpollorockin
      @vpollorockin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I actually think its a little more than that...Mixed with why Logan got all the kids in the divorce..Their whole lives have been just a testing field battleground...All of them being groomed in a dog eat dog way to see whos worthy in Logans eyes of being his successor...He raises them to always be in backstab mode...always be fake and deceptive...Killers...he changes his mind constantly about whos hes considering...then pulls back because one of them makes a mistake...He corrupted all of his children so the strongest one could lead the next generation..and when Ken does what he does in S2 finale...thats why u see the angry smile breakout on his face...He knows Ken is the one...but also knows that he has to put everything into destroying him now...Final test from master to would be apprentice..This is potentially the best TV series ever written..if it jeeps the moment going

      This is absolutely true but what makes it even more affecting is that the three younger siblings are possibly the only people in the world capable of eliciting that response from each other. The only reason they're "corrupted" that way to begin with is the way they were raised (and abused, mainly psychologically but in various ways by Logan), and only each other can understand the unique pain of that and what it does to a person. They live the game all the time 24/7 but only ever stop when one of them actually shows how much they're hurting or how much trouble they're in (same as Roman picking up Kendall in New Mexico).

    In the end, Shiv never did end up taking care of Ken. She chose Tom instead. It’s also what cost her a chance at the top job, in Logan’s mind. Despite their differences, Logan and Ewan are immensely loyal to each other. Ken, Shiv, and Rom are not.

    • @meryem338

      Actually, Shiv doesn't care about anybody. She was nearly first one who support that Tom should be victim. Also, the only reason she asked Logan not to choose Tom was because he felt bad that Tom was right in what he said about their marriage. but again she didn't think about who was going to be victim after Tom. And i think she wasn't upset for Kendall. Poor Ken..

      @@alsage9992 you’re being waaay too kind on her. The only reason she protected Tom, is because she didn’t want to face a world where even Tom would leave her, and wash his hands with her. She chose him precisely because she could have him eat out of the palm of her hand at any moment. For this reason, she chose to be with an opportunistic, unprincipled, cowardly, babbling-baboon semblance of a man. And to have this insult to manhood and masculinity reject her, would be too much for her to face. So to avoid dealing with her own demons, she’s okay to sacrifice someone else, anyone else. She is only motivated by herself here. She, to me, is the most despicable character out of the 3 siblings. The most selfish, and definitely “feminism gone rogue” because of what must have been a shitty childhood.

    I just rewatched this scene after going through the whole season, and Logan's "worry" for Kendall in this episode looks so DIFFERENT after knowing what he had planned for his son in the finale. It now makes me rethink why Logan kept asking about Kendall's whereabouts and the enforcement of the glass walls at the end of the episode. Now, a part of me believes that Logan was only worried that Kendall's suicide would derail his plans...and not him actually caring about his son's deteriorating mental health.

      I don't think so. He decided to throw him under the bus after the congressional hearing only. At this point in story he didn't even know the cruise scandal will come out.

      Even without that, can you imagine the optics of your kid launching himself off the roof of your building? (or shooting himself inside of it?) I remember when I first saw the episode _I_ couldn't help but think about it, I can't see a scenario where Logan Roy wouldn't be aware of and concerned about that.
      Maybe there was some love there, maybe not. But there was definitely strategy, at the very least, mixed into it.

    The last minute is another one of the MANY times I thought "okay, this show is a masterpiece", but it's the most vivid one to date. Britell's music is phenomenal.
