I can't tell you how excited I get when you post a new video! Thank you for always walking through recipes and showing how it's done! I've learned so much from your channel!
Thank you for this recipe, this came at the perfect time! I love shortbread cookies w my morning coffee but the walkers brand is so expensive. Now I can make them myself!
I intend to try these. Your channel is one of the very few I can stand to watch. You’re so sweet, charming, goofy, and down to earth. You act like an actual human! I do that on my channel too. I don’t even edit out mistakes.
I can't wait to make these! I've made many of your recipes and every single one was incredible!! Thank you for sharing amazing recipes and fun facts too!
In the Philippines, we have polvoron which is an easy to do shortbread, all you need is powdered milk and some sugar, for flavors we use bibingka, ube, coffee and chocolate! 😊
My ex husband..my children’s dad..married a woman from the Philippines and she makes those all the time. They are delicious! Her flan is the best I’ve ever tasted!
Shortbread is my favorite cookie and dessert ever. Once again you have made it very approachable and I'm going to be making this ASAP. As per usual. As I can go down the list five years or so doesn't matter what it is you bake my pumpkin bread every year, Banana bread, cakes, cookies, whatever it is... Just waiting for you to have your own Food Network program ... ❤
Thank You for all your recipes! You are amazing! I cooked and baked many of them and they all came out perfect. Last time I did the stuffed shells and it was a real hit 🎉❤I really like your videos, recipes and trying not to miss any of them. Many of them in my cooking book for my kids and family. Thank You so much John! Have a wonderful Christmas and all the best for you and your family ❤❤❤❤👍🇨🇦🙋♀️
Folks always put so much in shortbreads... I have an old scotch recipe that's been passed down many many generations only 3 ingredients butter brown sugar and flour. 1 cup butter 1/2 cup brown sugar ( packed) 2 cups flour ( sifted) Cream room temp butter with sugar till well combined Add your flour bit by bit once combined add more till all flour is used Roll out dough onto a lightly floured surface pat down dough to 1/4 inch thick roll lightly to smooth the top cut into desired shapes prick halfway through centers with a fork. Add cookies to a nonstick cookie tray or line with parchment cook at 350 for about 15 minutes. Happy holiday baking!❤
Made 1000’s of shortbread cookies over my 72 years but have never heard of vanilla and salt to be added.Jy Scottish mother-in-law made the traditional recipe by the 100’s every Christmas. So delish and warmly received by her Eight children and their families.❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for bringing delicious recopies. Have tried many of them and turned out really good. Finally got myself a kitchen scale and a Candy thermometer. Your instructions are so easy and entertaining, absolutely love it. Loads of love to your entire family from Toronto !!!
I'm a huge Preppy Kitchen fan! I love your videos John! I have two shortbread cookie recipes, one of them is the first rendition of this video that you posted a few years ago if you know what video I'm talking about. And the other is a rendition of Walkers pure butter shortbread fingers and just has a cup of butter, 1/3 cup of granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 2 cups flour. I've made almost all of your baked dishes in your channel and I've made them multiple times on birthdays and holidays for family and friends. I've made almost all your cakes, I've made all your different dessert bars, I've made your Pumpkin pie, I've made all of your cookies including your fancy ones like rainbow cookies and red velvet cookies. And don't worry John, I always use my scale for the flour and when I'm mixing in the flour I do all of it by hand so there's no chance of over mixing. I have a stand mixer for everything else though. The only thing I do differently than you is, I prefer to use fine grain salt. For my taste buds it generates a better flavor contrast. My experience with kosher salt is that it's very spotty, when I've tried making goods using kosher salt I've noticed that it leaves them very salty in some spots and totally bland in other spots. The thing I like about fine grain salt is that it disappears into the recipe and balances the flavor without actually having to taste large pieces of salt in random spots of what you made.
Today, a mixer arrived and I recently got a kitchen scale! Have all the ingredients so in liue of bread may make this recipe first ! Love a good SB cookie! Thanks!
i love that idea - it's similar to the "cocoons" mama used to make. but to shortbread and cocoons, i now add miniature chocolate chips, and maybe a small amount of pulverized pecans.... just to make people swoon.
The whole biscuit/cake /bread tax thing still exists, this is why we have jaffa 'cakes' that are essentially soft biscuits. Cakes aren't taxed but chocolate civered biscuits are... So we get jaffa cakes. Also ginger bread is not taxed if they are person shaped and have chocolate eyes, but if they have clothes then they are.
I tried Jaffa cakes. I discovered the International Food section of my grocery store. They looked good and I had never heard of them. I thought I'll pretend I'm British tonight. LOL. So I bought a pack and made a cup of tea and ate Jaffa Cakes. It was fun. Cheers.

Thanks for the new recipe I already tried out the sugar cookies LOL my mom said I didn't add enough sugar😂😂😂 so then I took your icing recipe from when you did the pumpkin cookies, I was curious about whether or not it would be really good if I added Orange and orange zest to the frosting it ended up tasting like an orange cream soda I am so tweaking my cookies from now on😊👍 LOL I wonder if the shortbread cookies would be good with the orange icing I did😋 PS thanks✨ Mr John✨ for all the great recipes you put out there
I have a spatula just like that. It came in a set of two from Aldi. The cookies look great. I would love to make them with dried cranberries. It sounds so good but the dough and method seem to be quite delicate.
Shortbreads are my fav. Mom’s used the brown sugar recipe. My best friend’s one was like yours Scotch shortbread and the other the whipped piped shortbread. There is no such thing as bad shortbread.
Shortbread is my favourite along with chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. We always made logs in wax paper making little discs and topped each one with a small piece of candied cherry, maybe 1/8 of a cherry. I think the only difference is we didn't use any vanilla. Then you can taste the rich butter.
Oh,my. Need to try this one. My youngest grandson loves rosemary and loves shortbread as much as I do. My one question; what is best butter to use? My short bread actually tasted greasy last year.

ANYWAYS, I use your method on how to mix things. It actually tasted like shortbread! It tasted amazing. I think I added a little bit too sugar to mine (it wasn’t overly sweet.) THANK YOU!

No way... I was *just* looking for an eggless shortbread cookie. John to the rescue! My niece and nephew will love these :)
Shortbread shouldn’t have eggs. Just butter, flour, sugar. Some variations include rice flour/cornstarch and flavored extracts. Vanilla, almond, etc.

4 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 pound of butter
Slow bake at 250 for 50-60 minutes.
