QUESTION ⁉️ So... I just made these, and I have them in the fridge chilling until I can bake these tomorrow and I'm wondering, won't these spread due to the lack of baking soda or baking powder won't these spread???
Only recently found this channel and wanted to thank you. As a busy parent, who still wants to make Christmas magical and special for my kids, you and your channel have been so wonderful!
refreshed homepage and was SHOCKED to catch a fresh new preppy kitchen upload! I was just wondering what new thing i should try to make today and I guess you've made up my mind for me! I really love how accessible your recipes are, thank you!
I’ve made this recipe twice so far - first time measuring everything in volume and the second - using a scale. Measuring in volume gave me a dough which looked very much like sand - definitely too dry, so I added a bit of milk and the recipe turned out to be OK still. But the second time I used a scale, and the dough turned out EXACTLY like John’s. So I beg you, fellow home bakers - go and get the scale if you still don’t have one! Invaluable tool! The recipe itself is amazing - the cookies are sooo delicious and easy to make (although a bit time consuming, but it’s worth it). Thank you, John!
I just made a couple batches of these and the flavor is so delicate and delicious! My first batch kept cracking and I couldn’t fix them. I went wrong by making them too big, fixed the second batch by adding a few table spoons of warm half and half (that’s all the real milk I have 😂) and they came out PERFECT!
My mom made these with chopped pecans and chocolate frosting. She rolled the dough in the nuts before baking and it was my job to put the thumbprint in. We also used colored frosting depending on the occasion. Now I’m hungry!!
My grandmother used to make these for holidays. She called them “Tum cookies” ‘cause she couldn’t say “Thumb”. She would roll the balls of dough in granulated sugar and finely chopped pecans and then make the thumbprint. She used raspberry jelly. They were my favorites but the recipe died with her 😔. Now, I have yours which is essentially the same. Thanks, John
This is a family favorite! We follow an old recipe called Austrian Jam Cookies. We always use seedless blackberry or Seedless Black Raspberry and we use the beaten egg white to roll the dough in, then roll them in chopped walnuts! Absolutely delicious! Your recipe and ours are very similar with a couple of differences in measurements!
Damit, seeing these cookies really brings up memories plus tears to my eyes, belive it or not. I remember those cookies are beeing my Dad's favorite. Here in Bavaria these cookies go by the name "Husarenkrapfen", but i'm sure there's a ton of other names 'round the world. My Granny made 'em every Chrismas as long as she was able to bake. May they both rest in peace. Anyways, many thanks for the video John!
I have a blower/vacuum made for cleaning electronics that I use to blow out flour from the motor of my stand mixer. I also use it for my hand mixer, microwave, toaster, waffle maker, food processor etc. This seriously extends the life of the appliances.
When I made your cream cheese cookies, I was able to make a small indent and put rasberry preserves on them, and omg, they were soooooo good! I'll have to make these next. ❤
I make these every year, but use Almond extract instead of vanilla. Usually use raspberry or apricot jam. To finish I use a light dusting of powdered sugar. Thank you for another wonderful video.
Thumbprints are one of my favorite Christmas cookies. I especially love raspberry jam and the tartness of red currant. These look lovely. I enjoy watching you bake.
THESE ARE DELICIOUS! my kids helped and everyone got their own favorite jam. Thank you for sharing your recipes with the world! You’re the BEST! Merry Christmas to you and your family 💙
Thanks John. I've made this from your website multiple times for my friends and have even taken them on a plane interstate as a gift. It's always been a hit. Wonderful recipe!! Thank you very much!
When I make my thumbprint cookies, I use the pointed end of an egg, dipped in powdered sugar to make the circular indent. Works wonderfully and quickly.
i tried it today, i did everything, but it was super sweet, i would recommend using 20g less sugar, but overall it was so so good, and the texture was amazing
i love making thumbprint cookies each year so i decided to make this recipe immediately! 😂 i also added a 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract because i love it so much. I only had 1 stick of unsalted butter so i used 1 stick salted as well but i cut the additional salt down to 1/4 teaspoon. They are currently chilling in the fridge!
Perfect timing. I plan to bake two types of print cookies next, jam filled and chocolate kisses. This weekend I baked Grinch sugar cookies and chocolate chip oatmeal cookies with nuts.
I found out this summer that we have an apricot tree, I've lived here for six years and it produced gobs of little apricots just this year and omg they were soooo good. Fingers crossed they produce a lot next year.
I made them today! Thank you for the recipe, it's super easy and fast, especially with a stand mixer. It's going to be my favourite recipe now! :) I used strawberry, mango, and blueberry jam
I just made thumbprint cookies but the recipe I used didn't mention refrigerating the dough before baking, nor did I know about your adorable hack for making the heart shape. I will definitely make these using raspberry jam and caramel sauce. I hope you and your family have a joyous holiday season.
I absolutely love watching you and trying out all of these recipes! This one will be the next on my list! Thank you so much and keep being and doing you! You are amazing
Thank you very much for this amazing video! I really love these cookies. 😍😍😍 They look beautiful and they must be delicious! I am going to try this recipe! 🥰😘😘😘
Love your channel but I have 1 question (coming from an hvac contractor). Why does the temperature outside affect the temperature of your countertops? Don't you keep your thermostat at 70⁰f all year round? Food for thought 😜

How long should I leave out after the jam?
I've always wondered how those were created... now I know... thanks John...Merry Christmas 🎄
I make these every year, but use Almond extract instead of vanilla. Usually use raspberry or apricot jam. To finish I use a light dusting of powdered sugar. Thank you for another wonderful video.
It’s like you read my mind. I got three types of preserves from a farmers market. My parents are going to love these. Thanks again

I needed a jam cookie recipe. Thank you.
That's just the recipe I needed to use the homemade guava jam that is on my fridge. Thanks!
i tried it today, i did everything, but it was super sweet, i would recommend using 20g less sugar, but overall it was so so good, and the texture was amazing
also i used like 10g-30g extra flour, i think it depends on the type of the flour u have
I made the thumbprint cookies today. Delicious!
