      I had several cheep from 250 to 400 coil overs on mk4 first of all fucked them because the road dirt got into the threads that was one set fcuked so second set put socks on them you buy them of eBay there for coilovers so that stopped the threads getting fcuked but see the roads in the UK pot hole infested cheep coils don't boad well all in had about 4 sets because every mot they were burst and that wasn't them lowered any where near max I wouldn't say about 50mm and I can honestly say cheap round about 250 to 400 mark wouldn't waist my time again. I'm running 40mm lower springs Bilston shocks on my Mk1 TT the front is actually 50mm due to 10mm knocked of the pollys on the top mount front tyre wear is fine but I'm running the inside of the rears but done 6000mile cheep tyres can't complain

My suspension route started in April 2020 to fully change from 18 year stock 225 Quattro to bilstein B14 however the supplier (ECP) failed to honour my order kept my money eventually PayPal refunded. I now have decided to go the bilstein B4 route (6 week delivery) and very happy. Lesson always have a plan B.

      That’s very annoying. I’ve found over the years that anything car related when it comes to ordering parts no one ever seems to have it in stock, takes ages for delivery and there is always a hold up.
      The b4 shocks like I said in the video are a great option if your not planning on rallying that car 24/7 and they are made by a quality brand almost as old as audi is 👌🏻. Haha presentation room like that, need to get some studio lighting to stop the shadows. Haha. It’s been my lockdown project as I can’t do all the car trips I’ve wanted to

    Nice vid, mate. I already switched to a Bilstein B12 some months ago. My intention was to improve the handling and make the 18" wheels look more harmonic with the car by lowering it slightly. My budget was limited too. Moreover, driving through potholes has always been a pain, although the original shocks were not that old (~67000 km). It just felt like the hole car would break into pieces any moment. Later it turned out that they had no gas pressure left... 🤔
    Since genuine S-Line shocks and springs were no option cost / benefit wise I went for the B12 because I heard that Eibach springs are much better in terms of comfort than H&R for example. Also I found a shop where it was available for 600€ (£ 545). Quite cheap imo. :)
    It's an FWD by the way. Fitting the front shocks without a lifting platform wasn't easy for somebody who has never done that before BUT it was absolutely worth it! Of course the car is not 'low' now... Looks decent though and handling as well as comfort are better than before. Mission accomplished!
    In Germany we say 'it's lying like a plank on the road'. 😁

    • @TheParrottBros
      @TheParrottBros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Funny that all the gas had gone from the shocks, was it a 1 careful owner car by any chance haha never raced or rallied.
      Your right the b12 kit had been proven as a nice mix between performance and comfort.
      There is a few little tricks that make the job easier to release the shock from the hub but still not a super easy job for someone who’s not done before.
      Thanks for watching and commenting

    Thank you for this really helpful video. I’m going from budget worn out (5 years) coil overs to the suggested -25mm lowering EIBACH springs on BILSTEIN B4s.

You seem to be a very knowledgeable person so I'm hoping you can guide me in repairing the shock absorbers on my 2008 TT quatro 3.2L coupe with magnetic ride. Do you know if there are aftermarket (ie. non-OEM) magnetic ride replacements? I would like to retain the magnetic ride functionality. Also, if I replaced the suspension myself, will the on board computer need to be configured to recognize the new shocks installed? As mentioned, you seem to be very knowledgeable and so your input would be highly valued and appreciated. Thank you.

      Hi Bernel. I had the same question and also bought my TT in 2010. I'm in Montreal where the F1 will be held in a couple of hours. Mine is a 2001 Quattro but only a 180hp, unitronic stage 1+. I too, would have welcomed a Parrott bros. vote of confidence on Neuspeed springs. Neuspeed is located in California and claim the springs are made in Germany from the highest quality material. I think this product is available in France and I am surprised they would not want to be present in the well known UK TT mk1 enthusiasts market.

    I was driving up to Cambridge once and there's alot of up & down hilly road's on the A road's going up to Cambridge. My 225 was zooming down at 70 and the car felt unstable at high speed, i.e it was bouncing and not stabilising fast enough to a point I nearly lost it and come off the road. Recently had a MOT and my MacPherson front strut rubber has an inch play it, haven't checked the shocks yet but looking to sort it all on the weekend 👀

      How did you get on with your suspension, this week I changed all of the suspension on a V6, all four of the shock absorbers were knackered, you could push them in and they would not return. They were not leaking so technically would not fail an MOT but they were horrific, I can't believe how much better the car is with new ones on

    I am thinking about pulling the trigger on some new shocks for an APX 225 2000 TT. Everything on the car is original, the shocks, control arm bushings, etc, it's really worn and loose feeling in the steering. Almost everything is in need of replacing. I am struggling to make a decision which to buy, or even if I should bother restoring the TT, and maybe buy another car altogether. I wouldn't really want to lower it a lot, maybe just 25mm. I'd prefer comfort over sport. I can't decide what to do >___

      It all’s expends if your planning on keeping it long term, if you decide your keeping it long term then refreshing all bushes for stock replacements you will notice a good difference, the Eibach pro kit springs offer a mild drop without affecting the comfort too much.
      If your not prepared to spend £500-1000 on your tt then certainly move it on before it needs doing

    Very interesting many thanks. A recent problem I have is I don't seem to have any movement in my suspension !
    As far as I know it's all original, 21 years old with 97k. I weigh nearly 15 stone and when I open the tailgate and bounce my weight up and down there's no movement at all.
    Is that normal ? Or has it seized up.
    Front very similar if I try a bounce test there no movement.
    Last MOT advised rear shock tops very corroded.
    Car looks too high in my opinion, I can fit whole hand between tyre and arch with ease and some.

    • @TheParrottBros
      @TheParrottBros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stock springs can be very stiff, odd that you have very little movement when pushing down. I would give the shocks a visual, if they look corroded and rusty chances are they are past there cell by date. You can always take one off and compress it and see if it pushes back out.
      A new set of bilstein b4’s and Eibach springs will give you a subtle drop and better handling without leaving eating beans for a year ;)

    I ordered 40mm springs yesterday as was reading that is as low as you can go without needing to replace arms etc. Now having done a bit of research it seems replacing the arms with adjustables is pretty much a must?! My car is pre facelift which was higher ride height by 20mm from what I've seen, so surely lowering by 40mm would only be the equivalent of a facelift car being lowered by 20mm? • @TheParrottBros

      It all depends on the rear wheel camber, they are meant to have a certain amount, all it means is youll have less surface area of tyre on the floor so less grip and more inner tyre wear, see the link attached for what it should be dependant on height from floor
