    Nice! Shame about the crappy deal with the shocks, looks like it all came good in the end though - can't want to see shots of this winging it around the ring!

    Great video! But i have a question. If I buy a suspension with greater lowering in height, would it be necessary to install adjustable suspension links?
    Thx

    Did you have any issues fitting the front struts like you noted in your short video to Bilstein, I'm tempted to get the B12 setup but was put off a bit by that quality issue you noted. You can pick up the B12 kit for £600 new via autodoc or ebay although it's sold as an eibach suspension kit rather than a bilstein kit.

    You measured the ride height on each corner before the installation of the news suspension, but you haven’t given us the four new figures after the new suspension has settled after driving a few miles. You said it was higher after fitting. But by how much exactly? This is very important to know for people considering this setup. Please could you state the before and current after measurements on each corner here, even if you are hoping it might drop more in the future.

    • @BWSTT
      @BWSTT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its only relevant is they know what springs were fitted before hand. You can calculate the difference if you want, by taking the first before measurement (n/s/f) and taking it from the after measurement from the same corner. I also removed 17kg of weight from the rear, and have since removed a lot of interior, so it’s irrelevant and unuseful data

    Great vid. What symptoms would you experience if the front shocks had been fitted as they were? I suspect mine might be damaged 🤦‍♂️

    • @BWSTT
      @BWSTT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would have made a noise on cornering

  • @marcooconnor
    @marcooconnor ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah the Bilstein's will raise the height of the car due to the gas struts. The old oil struts will also have been knackered. FYI to anybody reading, the B8 strut is inverted, that's why the piston seems massive! :)

    • @BWSTT
      @BWSTT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The strut won’t dictate the height, the simple fact that you can compress a strut by hand is all the information you need to know it has no impact on ride height. Height was purely down to the springs used.

    • @marcooconnor
      @marcooconnor ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BWSTT Well that makes sense. However, when we put B8's on an already lowered (APEX 40mm) TT, the height raised 18mm. Some of that can be accounted to top mounts, but not all. I think this video states potential reasons th-cam.com/video/IlppKcxGWzA/w-d-xo.html

    • @BWSTT
      @BWSTT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marcooconnor I’ll rephrase my answer- the gas in the strut isn’t going to make any more than a fraction of difference- usual after market springs are at around 150lb per cm, so the 30lbs difference means 2mm difference.

    Would you recommend fitting a 2nd hand set of Bilstein suspension if I will only drive the car on roads 99.9% of the time?
    A friend has a friend selling a set, but I’m not sure if I actually need it… may do it for the lols, but also because race car… The mrs was mega impressed with the coil overs I fitted to my previous car, so I’m probably not going to do that again lol, but I’m also trying to get the lads to the ring… what do you recon?

    I fitted a set of Bilstein B4 struts & shocks to my TT a few years back, and I have been very disappointed. The struts didn’t fit right while I was putting them in, the car sat higher in front even after I had fitted lowering springs and Powerflex 10mm lowering bushes, and the ride quality has been terrible. I want the car to sit lower than factory height, but I don’t want to go the coilover or bagged routes, so I’m currently trying to decide between some Bilstein B12s, or if I should go with a different brand.

    • @BWSTT
      @BWSTT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Your springs dictate the ride height primarily. The b12 kit uses eibach springs like in this video, so youll want different springs

    • @gplusgplus2286
      @gplusgplus2286 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bilstein B4s (the black ones) are generic crap probably made in China with just a Bilstein sticker on them.

    • @TrevorM97
      @TrevorM97 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BWSTT Yes it is my understanding that the B12 comes with B8 dampers, but as a complete kit (2 struts, 2 shocks, 4 springs) Not confusing at all! 😅

    • @marcooconnor
      @marcooconnor ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrevorM97 Yeah, you got to remember that the Bilstein's are high pressure gas struts! Not for looks, for performance. The B4's are for standard suspension as well. The B12's are good for 15/20mm drop. You would want B8's with 40mm lowering springs to get somewhere near the drop at the start of the video. However, I would probably go for another brand if the drop is the most important thing.
