- In this episode we have a catch up on what has been happening on the layout over the last few months. I have got through quite a bit of work, so if there is detail on any particular area of the layout I have glossed over, or you would like more information on please let me know.
Your modeling skills are awesome. Like you I built a layout, then had to move, not only to another house but another country on a different continent. So goodbye old layout. The new layout, begun 2018 is much bigger with 80 feet of sceniced main line, and probably as I am now in my eighties rather too ambitious. It has a lot of scenery and I am eagerly awaiting your video on trees and shrubbery. You, sir, are a master modeler.
Superb modelling and not overstated. And the fact that you are drawn in by the realism makes it all the more interesting 👍
I love your little details...with fences, bushes and the weathering on every item ..looks very real ! 👍
Thank you very much!
Thank you very much!
Appreciate the update. Great work, nice to see that era modelled. As others have said, I’d like to see how you put together the trees/bushes/vegetation, it all looks excellent 👌
Looks like £50 worth of seafoam to me... Stuff is so expensive, and then i tried growing it! 😂
😂 My seafoam trees unfortunately don’t look as good. And that’s a hell of a lot of spray glue and leaves to make a mess with! 😂
@@ajk37416 I've only made armatures so far, not got onto the foliage
No worries, I'll go into detail . It's a mixture of various things . Seafoam plays a key role!
Great, thank you. Sounds messy! 😂
Don’t keep apologising. The layout looks very realistic. 👍 it always takes a while to get things done.
Thanks mate ! I'll keep them coming as and when :-)
Excellent update and great to see ya smiling face. Now where are those signals we been talking about…..
Hi, great layout with some lovely stock, you mentioned Hornby bashing near the end of the video, I’ve been into model railways for over 45 years now and to be fair back in the day Hornby reigned supreme for me, these days I find they aren’t that great anymore because they cut corners on models then once customers complain they upgrade without a thought of those who have spent a great deal of money stranded because they couldn’t be bothered to do a proper job in the first place! The APT is a classic example, I must admit that they produce the best steam engines in my opinion of which I have many, I wish they had made the latest Wi hush hush with glowing fire box and a smoke unit, many modellers hold back on Hornby models because of the corner cutting that goes on, the second revision or run of their items addresses most of the issues that should have been ironed out on the first run or revision, your cast bodied A4 looks great but I have seen some negative reviews that put me off getting one which is my choice, I know a lot of modellers whom won’t buy Hornby products anymore because of bad experiences, their 21 pin class 43 packs have woefully bad motorised roof fans and that is a fact! I have 2 sets too which one set is acceptable while the other is so bad I’ve disconnected the fans because they are so noisy and loud with it, Hornby’s customer service is not fit for purpose and that too is a fact, some good friends of mine say if you don’t want a headache don’t buy the latest Hornby items, all the best with your layout and I hope it grows in the future, thanks for sharing.
Hi Marcus.
Brilliant update buddy.
Trying to get some diesel pumps having a bit of a job getting them, like your ones.
Like the concrete base you have done for your sheds, look realistic. Going to try filler for my base. Did experiment with my small engine shed looks pretty good. Don't know if I'm going to vlog it in case I cock up.😒
Brilliant layout. Thanks for the update mucker.
.... Pete....
Superb work. Great to see a realistic layout which succeeds because it's not overstuffed with stock, track buildings etc. All very restrained, spacious and tastefully weathered. Love the Loadhaul 56 especially. Cheers.
Thanks ! It's taken me a while to learn that less is more with model railways . Giving the illusion of more space than you've got is key !
First time I have watched your videos, your layout is so realistic, will now be regular watcher….
What a great update...really enjoyed the video, the station looks awesome, scenery is epic...my Son Adam says its the best layour he's ever seen...considering he runs his models on Harold Road i may have to ban him from it for that statement , seriously...great modeling my old freind 😊
Great video! Being following you for years and you're a massive inspiration. You even motivated me to go up in the loft tonight 😅 I'm a bit behind you (still cutting plywood) and have a young'un so just stealing an hour or so here and there when I can.
I'm modeling early 2000s too and have lots of Cararama cars as they do loads of stuff for that era (Volvo, Saab, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Ford, Fiat etc). I've bought loads off eBay over the years. Abrex also do 1/72 Skodas which come in handy too.
Fantastic! Your greenery is really up there with the best on TH-cam, so very much looking forward to seeing how you do it 😊
Amazing layout great content subscribed too.
Really like the look of the new station - fabulous work. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Thanks mate ! Glad you like the new station .
Stunning - what a superb layout! Brings back so many memories of when South Wales still had so many interesting workings. I've always been into photographing loco's and it was shortly after this time with the invasion of the red sheds that I lost most interest, so it's great to see the area recreated so well! I immediately recognised the sadly no more 'Margam TMD' and also 'Rhymney' a.k.a. the Vale...!! As to the real railway round here, I paid a now rare visit to Margam Knuckle Yard this week, and the place is now looking incredibly sad.... Really good modelling to bring back the good times! Keith
Thanks Keith . Margam isn't what it once was now . Even in as shorter timespan as the last 10 years it's got less interesting sadly .
@@GowertonParkway It's just about dead tbh, sadly.
I think this has got to be my favourite layout. Love the era and the detail and skill involved amazing 👍
Thanks for the update in what sounds a very busy life... Absolutely love this, everything scenery wise blends so well, videos nicely put together, interesting to listen to, diesels everywhere. Platform level blending has given me ideas... Nice one Regards... Ste
Thank you . Glad it's given you some ideas . Makes sharing worthwhile!
I love this layout so much, lovely to get a little overview of it
Layout looks great mate, impressed how you have used the space without going overboard on track.
Gowerton Vale is a perfect name to honour what came before but be its own thing
Thank you ! One thing that I think is important with a model railway is not covering every inch of the board with endless sidings to keep stock in . I find it instantly detracts from the appearance if you are trying to go for something with lots of detail .
@@GowertonParkway I have been guilty of that in the past...probably with the current one as well if I'm being truthful lol.
Thanks for the update. Great work you have been doing. I always enjoy your layouts. Great locos too! Although I am an N gauge modeller I can appreciate the detail of the Cavalax 56s!
Thank you ! These Cavalex grids really are nice .
Hi, for some reason TH-cam never informs me when you post a new video, and I've been subscribed for ages. You have a really great layout there, and some great scenery and modelling skills. When you described the unfinished board behind the station, the beige colour of the board reminded me of a beach scene going off into the distance. It was only when I looked again I realised it was plain board.........I think maybe the white paint or glue on the wood appeared like waves in some weird way............Anyway, a great layout, thankyou, all the best Dave.
Excellent update Marcus! Thanks for uploading, the branch line adds something different to the main part of the layout, cheers Darrell 😃👍
Cheers mate . Certainly adds some play value
Looking really good Marcus, I'm constantly watching your layout for inspiration on my own, particularly around your depot area. Station also looks fantastic! Joe
Cheers mate ! Keeping an eye on your progress . Have enjoyed your instagram videos !
Just found this channel and loving the realistic detail, I have a 6X4 layout and aiming it to be as realistic as possible so this has given me a few ideas :)
Great update, thanks for sharing. I have to agree with you about the Cavalex 56, I went from just 1 variant to now owning 4 of them and slipping out of my strict era! Fully appreciate making videos takes time and for me it is nice to actually get lost in the world of modelling without having to think about doing anything else, like making a video. Don’t feel guilty for not filming everything, it’s your hobby to enjoy 😀. I like that you’ve just gone for plain blue backscene on this layout, it helps put the focus on to the 3D element. Progress is very good, looking forward to the next instalment. 👍 Cheers, Dave
Thanks Dave ! The blue backscene is for the exact reason you've said . Just to keep it simple . I think it's worked out well .
Fantastic layout
Another fantastic update, great to see the progress made across the whole layout 👌👌
Many thanks big man . Hope to catch you soon
Good to see you back Markus , everything looks great. Brilliant progress
Excellent layout 👌
Thanks you :-)
Thanks for the whole coverage here, great layout ,very subtle and laid back, well done on a superb job.
Thanks Brian . Your videos have provided a valuable source for research when it's come to putting the layout together .
@@GowertonParkway thanks for that, you’ve definitely nailed it.
Looks great love the Rhymney station Looks great also love the new scratch built TMD 😲👍
Glad you like it!
Great update , The Vale station is class, great work
Glad you enjoyed it
Looks great. Thanks for the tour
Thanks for watching!
I like your scenery work, it's first class. Regards Al
Many thanks!
The combination of the Cavalex 56s and your vegetation is very impressive!
Thanks :-)
I'm having a TMD with wagon repair facility built for me that's set in the mid to late 1990's. I bought 3 Cavalex Class 56's. They are very good locos. I've also got 2 Cavalex Class 60's on pre-order. Also got some weathered Cavalex HAA's & Accurascale JUA's. Can't wait to get my layout.
Sounds great! Hope to see some of your progress .
Great intro for me, not usually into modern era but great modeling! Subbed 🎉
Thanks for the sub , and glad the layouts caught your attention :-)
Really coming together now mate. My only gripe is that you’ve not made the branch station traditional looking with a ramp at each end - I do like an old fashioned station. 👏👏👏
Fantastic update, its a shame life's busy as you're good at it! 😊
Alas the busy life pays for the toys !
Great looking layout
Thank you very much!
Superb
Amazing.
Thanks!
my era and area. I can just imagine those load haul steel coils making their way from the steelworks where i work
Definitely a big part of the south wales rail scene !
We model the exact same era and the same small region ha i steal all my ideas off you!
Brilliant layout loved the Rhymney Station very typical on the valley lines - the 56s on MGR looked very realistic - What make are the Arriva Trains units
Thanks . Units are Bachmann , real track , hornby & Dapol .
Thanks for the reply
@@GowertonParkway
Hi you could try Oxford die-cast models for cars v good . Poss add some graffiti about. Like the layout. You could get a photographic backscene .
Any chance you can show how you changed your class 56s to transrail? I have 2 and was looking to try and do the same.
Funny you have the 56 in transrail livery, I decided that livery would suit my era the most and decided against ordering a 56 as they didn't do them in that livery...
Yea , had to rework 2 sector ones !
Do you have any problems 'pushing' the HST with the Hornby kinematic couplings or have you used another type of coupler?
Great update. Can I ask what actual paint did you use for the Arriva colours on the station fencing?
Regards
Andy
It's Phoenix arriva blue .
@@GowertonParkway
Thanks for that 👍
If you want to add another level of real life loco depots etc you need to add more dropped oil on the track, just think about where the locos stand and just go full send on the black oil, back in the 90`s we never gave a s*** about oil contamination on the ground and where locos stood or driver stopped locos and changed ends the ground was filthy, it does look good right now but add more dirt and more crap... cracking layout.
Definitely going to add more layers of filth over time !
What are the dimensions of your layout?
21ft x 9ft
Great update m8 I’ve got six cavalex class 56 I too think there spot on love the fiddle yard and thanks for the tip for the numbers the station area is looking good see you on the next one Dave@tinsleytmd 👍
I rate them really highly . Looking forward to seeing what batch 2 brings . Hopefully Dutch livery 🤞🏻
