  • Less than two hours by bus or train from Budapest in the heart of Hungary’s wine country, the small city of Eger is the perfect place to step into the country's heartland.
Steeped in history and with a medieval castle on the hill above it, Eger is a lively university town with a lot going for it, including a thriving Old Town, a fortress, a terrific town square, lots of restaurants and wine cellars and even an Islamic minaret left from Ottoman rule in the 1600s.
As you’ll see from the video, Eger will be memorable to me for another reason: I’m staying at a charming 12-room inn that during almost the entire time there was devoid of guests and staff.

I’ve always enjoyed your videos Ron and even more so now that I’m in Finland and the Baltics on an adventure and all I can think is how exhausting it must be to create such beautifully shot and incredibly informational videos. Kudos to you my friend👏🏻👍🏻✌🏻🤙🏻

Better it feels like Hotel California and not The Shining!😂 Eger is so clean and quiet. See you in Romania!

Usually there is no staff. You got your key and thats it. Only other time to meat the owner when you give back the key.

Yes I understand. In my case, however, there was no one present when I checked out so I dropped the key in the slot as I was instructed. I totally enjoyed my experience at the hotel. I have nothing to complain about. I merely pointed it out to viewers because I thought it was both fun snd unusual. I would gladly stay there again. :-)

Nice! How will you be traveling between countries in the Balkans? We are starting to research our trip. 😊

That sounds exciting. So far i've mostly traveled by by train and a little by bus. Both are good choices. I think trains are usually best for comfort. But it's a case a better vs. best and both comfortble.
