  • I begin a new series of videos from Eastern Europe exploring Hungary's beautiful capital, Budapest.
Budapest is a magical place, filled with old world European charm and brimming with history, marvelous architecture, gorgeous parks, a lively food scene and romantic streets. It’s a city of palaces and towering monuments and elegant thermal baths. Not to mention the grace of its star attraction, the Danube River, ribboning through it to separate what were once the separate cities of Buda and Pest.
This first of two videos from Budapest provides an overview of the city and focuses on some of the many wonderful sites that appeal to visitors here.

Budapest is the most beautiful city in the world! Hubby was born there and we visit almost every year. A few years ago I was shocked to see that now you have to pay to enter Fisherman's Bastion and Matthias Church. We visited these countless times before for free. I really appreciate that you included the correct pronunciation of Pest. ( it is easy s=sh and sz=s)

I totally agree. Budapest is easy to love. As for the off-putting fees everywhre on Castle Hill, there's a lot of construction going on there so I assume they need local and foreign tourists to help pay for it. But it isn't a good look and in my opinion causes ill-will.

What a beautiful city! Too bad you're having to pay for a lot of attractions. Dare I say that in some ways, it appeared to be a more affordable version of Zurich? This was certainly an interesting contrast to Egypt! Thanks, Ron!❤

Can't argue with the Zurich comparison for sure, Jack. And to be fair, Budapest overall is considerably less expensive than almost any great city one can name in Western Europe.

Btw, Victor Orban is not an "authoritarian leaning" leader, but a democratically elected president... Yes, he may have distinct views from the rest of the radical progressive Western leaders of today, yet 50 yrs ago his views would have been seen as common sense and normal, especially regarding protecting their peoples culture, values, and not wanting to be replaced...

Being "elected" has little to to with whether one is "authoritarian-leaning" Sanguis. Elections do not equate to democracy. There are numerous "elected" authoritarian leaders throughout the world.
