A Dino Crisis Reboot with the RE Engine (assuming they go for a horror genre) has potential to be the scariest game with Dinos ever. Just imagining a raptor stalking me in a rundown jungle facility with RE2R fidelity makes the poop go. As a side note I'm dying for Capcom to pull a Rockstar and implement First Person, Third Person and Classic RE fixed camera modes into all survival horror releases here on out on the engine. The fixed cameras would take the most work for sure since Dino Crisis 3 proved fixed camera angles can be botched and there would need to be at least a couple control sets for fixed mode itself. Combined with NG+ and we'd be looking at alot of replay value for each game.
I prefer the "Survival Panic" tag that made the Original Dino Crisis. But Damn would it be Scary as hell to get chased around by Raptors and a Fucking T-Rex!

I actually really liked this game as a child and i completed it several times, aswell as dino crisis 2. There is one singular element that made this game so addicting to me and its something that i think almost no youtuber has mentioned. This game plays esentially like a metroidvania, with different locked doors that need specific items to open, keys, a complex map and later some clever puzzles when you have to reshape the ship, changing the whole map to access certain rooms. This game really looks like it was heavily inspired by metroid prime, from the scifi setting, the lock-on fighting system, the platforming, save rooms etc etc. I've always been a fan of metroidvanias, even as a kid, and that generation had almost none, aside from metroid prime. I think I more or less agree with that you said in that the game isn't nearly as awful as people say, but it's still not a good game. The premise of fighting mutant dinosaurs on a space station sounds like it could have been the coolest game, but the camera and level layout just flat out kill it from being as good as it could be. Which is weird, because the actual combat seems like it would be decent and it actually feels more like a spiritual successor to 2 with the whole combo thing going on. Dino Crisis 3 was the reason I was so apprehensive about Dead Space 3. A friend of mine explained Dead Space as Zombies in Space and all I thought of was this. So glad I finally played Dead Space and Zombies in Space was a much better game than Dinos in Space.
Prior to watching the video. Wait what? There was a Dino Crisis 3? This is literally the first time I've ever heard about it. Was a huge fan of the original and the sequel back in the day. Hoping I was lucky to miss out on this one...
Due to my love for the previous two entries, I tried so hard to love this game but at the end I just couldn't...sooooo frustrating was this game to play :(...This was more of a Camera Crisis than Dino Crisis
@@BullworthGraduate , Boring puzzle stopping you from progressing further into the game, what a great idea! I bought Dino Crisis when it first got released and I thought the puzzles were boring when I first played it.. Oh no, I am getting chased by a killer dinosaur, better get through this door before it eats me, oh no, I have to solve a Rubik's Cube before I can open the door... Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Ive been waiting for a good review on this game specifically for years now and Im glad you did this. Im a sucker for bad games so I may have to give this a try sometime.
Dino Crisis and Parasyte Eve started at their Climax, took a step back and then stumbled upon their third installment Makes me want to replay the first two
i got dino crisis 1 & 2 and parasite eve 1 & 2 on the ps3 store cheap. never played part 3 of either series but from what i've seen of them i never had a desire to. j kinda disagree on pe though, i found pe2 more enjoyable and it had a couple unlockable new modes to add a lot of replay value.
I feel like that series was just a revolving door as far as directors goes. Everyone had a different vision for it, and none of them agreed with the previous games.
I remember enjoying this game when I was a teen. Didn't bother with easy mode, keep in mind this was 2003 when gamers in their teens tend to just buckle down and beat the game no matter how many times we get beaten or spam healing items. I recall getting angry at some of the more open combat areas since it's very easily to get blindsided by a random dinosaur mutant. Platforming was a bitch to do in that game especially with the fixed camera angels and it gets more annoying when the dinosaurs respawn when you just want to move on to the next area or you've just beaten a bunch of enemies and have to fight more again. In all honestly DC3 has it's charm, the visuals are lovely, animation and acting is pretty hilarious to experience, the mutant dinosaur look is really cool, I remember taking in some of the scenery of this game it's pretty good looking. But DC3 is a pain in the butt to playthrough from what I remember. DC2 I'm gonna say is a pretty good game and the slay queen of sass and ass kicking Regina is back but it's way too simple for me to enjoy, you just unload your weapons on dinosaurs like as if your playing RE Mercinaries mode but with a story. (Seriously why can't we have more Regina? she is so awesome.)
I can agree DC3 had a lot of character. That's what kept me playing. I think it had a lot of really good ideas, but the camera and difficulty really held it back. That being said, I still had fun with it. I just kept wishing all the good ideas could have been implanted into a better playing game.
maybe the series could come back and have success if they try using the Resident evil 2 remake gameplay. Not only the dinos would be scarier if you could have them jump in your face, but they could also be faster. Can you imagine how creepy it would be with the REngine? I really hope they reboot the series, or at least remake the games. DC3 could become a great game with preoper camera/gameplay.
It's actually a fun game after you get good at it and adapt to the horrendously finicky camera. Use the jetpack as much as you can and learn the enemy waves. It looks good and sounds great. The enemy variety is definitely lacking , but the boss Dinos are AWESOME. DC3 has its merits -- the player just has to be a literal badass (and filled with patience).
It's basically J-Trash with a higher production value than J-Trash usually has. Like if it was on PS2 with lesser graphics I could totally see it as a game from the Simple 2000 series.
I don't know.... I mean, there's some really cool ideas in here. The combat feels good on easy mode, and I liked buying items and upgrades. It's just the camera and layout of the ship that really brings it down.
@@AvalancheReviews It's such a cult classic: I remember watching it on VHS way back as a teen. Speaking of good sci-fi lately I watched "Prospect". If you haven't seen it it's totally worth a watch!
Ah, we've finally reached this point, the franchise killer lol. I think this game is okay (maybe meh lol) on its own merit but a terrible addition to the series, I am glad you had some fun with it at least. Thanks for the retrospective! It was so amazing. The amount of work you put into these videos really shows! I am looking forward to the Silent Hill one :D and I do hope you give the Fatal Frame series a second chance.
I think meh describes it perfectly. Especially when you compare it to the rest of the series. Thanks for the support. I can't wait to start hitting the Silent Hill series. I think it will be the next full series retrospective I work on (I'm currently working on another series).
i always play on easy after i was like 18, learning from mistakes if a game isn't good on easy if it isn't good to its core if it's great on easy you can always go on hardest and this time play with skill, not with trial and eггoг
The changes in perspective and controls this game has remind me of that section in RE6, where Chris and Piers are escaping that giant squid-like creature. On PC, it was hell. I died like 30 times trying to make sense of the camera and control changes.
It doesn't use tank controls. Instead of up being forward no matter what direction the character is facing, the controls depend on the camera angle and orientation. I think if it would have used tank controls, it would have been easier to navigate, but that would have made the fast paced combat, impossible.
If you're a fan of Alone in The Dark series, i wouldn't mind seeing a Alone in the dark retrospective series. But i'll be happy what you decide to do regardless. :)
I've only ever played a new nightmare and the reboot. I really want to cover the dreamcast version of a new nightmare at some point, but I don't know if I'll like the original 2 games.
Did you know why this was? For two reasons (most likely). One, there was a lot of complaints about DMC 2 being “too easy”. So maybe the devs made the game much harder as a result. Two, games were purposely made harder for rentals in America. So a game that’d take a few hours to a day or so would take nearly a month considering the jump in difficulty. This could also be a potential reason. Or it could be neither and Japan just wanted to fuck with us, that also works.
That'd be interesting to know if that was the case, because Capcom did that fairly often with other games like Devil Kings and Chaos Legion. Chaos Legion itself is a good game when you play it's Japanese version, however when it came to the west the difficulty and balancing were ratcheted up and ended up in a noticeably worse experience.
@@MD_Chaos whoa I had no idea that they did the same with Chaos Legion. Its one of my favourite guilty pleasure games but now that you mention it, the difficulty is all over the place. Cheers for the info!
@@seakwenz Yeah Japanese Chaos Legion is a genuinely quite good game and it's way easier to level up your legions than it is than the US version, which would have taken your 20+ hours where as in the Japanese version it takes about 5-6 hours long.
Well I'll be...I finally found someone who, in a way or other, actually enjoyed this game. I plan to binge-play all the DC games after I finish with RE, so you gave me some hope. Fun fact: You and Jabaplay may be the only 2 youtubers who genuinelly liked DC3 lol
When I was a kid, I used to think the cut scenes in this game were the best thing ever. Specially the one where the bald guy is shooting in the mouth of the shielded dino.
Man watching this series brought back vague memories of a Jurassic Park game I played as a kid on the Snes, least I THINK it was the Snes lol. It switched between 1st and 3rd person, inside buildings and outside respectively, which blew my mind as a wee lad. I remember it scaring the shit outta me, good times.
I'm just disappointed that the we never got a resolution of Dylan's fate at the end of dc2. part of me is hoping for a soft reboot that picks up after dc2
I know this is irrelevant to the review as a whole, but I really liked the whole concept of naming the dinosaurs after stars and giving them characteristics about the constellation where said stars are. The Deinonychus that goes invisible it's named Algol, Algol is in Perseus, and Perseus is the legendary greek character who beheaded Medusa using Hades' Helm of Darkness to hide from her stare. The gorilla-like Deinonychus is all beefed up because it's called Kornephoros, and Kornephoros is located in Hercules, you gotta live under a rock to not know who Hercules is. Those serpent-looking things are called Rigel, Rigel is in Orion, this one is more centered in the name of the star, Rigel is Arabic for ar-Rijl al-Jabbār "The Giant's Foot", it makes allusion to the fact that Rigel it's just an infant and it will turn into something bigger and more dangerous. The T-Rex is named Australis, could be a reference to Sigma Octantis, Polaris Australis, the South Star, barely visible to the naked eye, or to the Aurora Australis, due to the fact that generates and expelles visible electric currents from it's body. The Ankylosaurus goes for Regulus, Regulus is in Leo, and Leo represents the Nemean lion, a mythologycal lion who couldn't be injured by any weapon due to its magical golden fur. The Spinosaurus (boss fight not seen in this video) was named Miaplacidus, Miaplacidus is in Carina, and Carina is Latin for "Keel", Carina was part of a larger constellation, Argo Navis, that represented the ship in which Jason and the Argonauts sailed in the search of the Golden Fleece. And the final boss (footage not seen on the video), the Giganotosaurus, is named Cebalrai, Cebalrai is in Ophiuchus, Ophiucus is "Serpent-bearer" in Greek, I can't get a relation between name and physical appearance, could be because the heads' thing looks like snakes, I don't know.
I'm going to level with you, I thought I was pretty damn well researched on this game while I was writing this script, but I never came across that...........or I must have passed over it. Damn, that would have been cool as hell to talk about.
I remember trying this game back in the day, graphics was really good, but it was really unplayable and didn't understand what to do. Thanks for these videos it's really enjoyable. Can't wait for the next retrospective.
I hope Capcom reboots the series with a completely new reimagining of Dino Crisis 1 but they should make the campaign horror with a resident evil revelations raid mode style mini game to appease fans of Dino crisis 2. Great video by the way.
It's unfortunate because "dinosaurs in space" sounds cool and honestly late game combat is a blast, it's just a shame that a milquetoast story and frustrating camera controls prevent most from getting far enough to really get there
I enjoyed watching the cutscenes as for the day they were really good. It had potential if it were titled different and didn’t involve dinosaurs in space. Also gameplay needed improvement for sure. Heck I’d of been happy with a cgi film.
i have been a huge fan of dino crisis since day one, same for resident evil and silent hill, i also played countless unknown survival horrors and known as well, and after all that I MUST BE THE ONLY PERSON IN THE ENTIRE WORLD WHO ACTUALLY LIKED DINO CRISIS 3
''a see me after class note'' got a few more chuckles out of me than it probably should have. Also maybe my memory is off I think the A.I was less interested in making dinosaurs but more interested in using the dna she had instead of giving up when humans stopped being genetically viable? Also some weird perfectionist adaptability making the perfect species thing?
I've never really understood all the hate this game gets lol. The first 2 games are obviously far superior, but this game is still fun as hell. The whole reason i bought the original xbox was to play this game and i wasn't disappointed
Yeah I really liked the combat and enjoyed buying items and upgrades. It was the camera and similar looking locations that drug it down, but not enough to be as bad as everyone says.
Just watched all of your Dino Crisis retrospectives and I really want the first one to get the RE2 remake treatment. The second one isn't bad but goes too action for me and the third one still makes me scratch my head.
A very fair and balanced analysis, I've always been curious to try this but never found a copy when I owned an OG Xbox. The weird part of me wants to see this become compatible with Xbox One at some point lol.
Great review! I played this game back in high school and had pretty much the same experience. Tried to play it recently and just couldn’t stomach it a second time
Oh boy. Told ya on your last video! Jokes aside, even as a fan of the franchise, I still hate this game with a passion. The controls, the map, and the fact that the ship was huge were a total fun-killer for me, back when I bought it on dayone for my OG Xbox. I think I've tried to restart or replay this game at least 20 times, before finally throwing in the towel.
I don't blame you! I came very close to doing that same thing. I thought about not finishing it, and just turning this episode into a rant, but luckily, easy mode made it playable.
This could of been DMC in space. I really hope that Capcom reboots this franchise on todays tech for a new audience and for the classic fans. So, what series is getting the retrospective treatment next?

Nah, the first game was better. Action doesn't beat horror. ; )
@@BullworthGraduate but clunky puzzles don't
@@Dektoonics_inc. - Clunky, they were not. Your brain, maybe. XD
@@grahamtaylor8912 - I don't even know what version you played, but there was never a rubik's cube puzzle in the game. XD
Highly enjoyed that. You covered each of the games very well.
Thank you! Glad to see you liked it
your biggest enemy in this game is the camera
Ive been waiting for a good review on this game specifically for years now and Im glad you did this. Im a sucker for bad games so I may have to give this a try sometime.
If you try it on easy, you might get into it. It's still bad, but definitely playable.
Take heart! Your video has inspired me to add Dino Crisis 3 to my Xbox collection (I'm trying to collect all original Xbox games).
Now there's what I like to hear! It's definitely worth owning, just don't spend more than like 18$ on it.
Dino Crisis and Parasyte Eve started at their Climax, took a step back and then stumbled upon their third installment
Makes me want to replay the first two
Yep, They are very similar in that sense.
i got dino crisis 1 & 2 and parasite eve 1 & 2 on the ps3 store cheap. never played part 3 of either series but from what i've seen of them i never had a desire to. j kinda disagree on pe though, i found pe2 more enjoyable and it had a couple unlockable new modes to add a lot of replay value.
This is the only DC game that I haven't played.
I hope they will remake DC after REmake 3.
Me too!
If only they didn't make it so impossible to play by buying an OG Xbox and emulation on PC is nonexistent.
@@baroquechevalier8516 back then the OG Xbox user base is almost nonexistent in my country, that's why I haven't played this one (yet) PS2 ftw lmao
Wasn't DC3 tangentially related to DC cannon due to 3rd energy reactor onboard of Spaceship or some such? I know - grasping at straws
Yes, suppossedly made space travel possible.
Nobody:
Capcom: yeah Dino Crisis 2 did suck! Here's dinos IN SPACE, lolz!
I feel like that series was just a revolving door as far as directors goes. Everyone had a different vision for it, and none of them agreed with the previous games.
Agree man. Here's hoping if that sequel / reboot does happen at E3, they finally figure shit out. Capcom has been doing good lately. So I'm hopeful.
Bro. I like to think I'm a pretty *"HARDCORE GAMER"* LOL but I never even knew this damn existed!?
😂😂😂😂
I personally love DC3. Yes its no DC1 or DC2 but it is a decent game on its own. DC1 is my favorite by far though
I think 2 is my favorite, but I still love 1. 3 was just kind of ok for me. It's not as bad as people say, but it's not amazing.
@@AvalancheReviews i ike em all
maybe the series could come back and have success if they try using the Resident evil 2 remake gameplay. Not only the dinos would be scarier if you could have them jump in your face, but they could also be faster. Can you imagine how creepy it would be with the REngine? I really hope they reboot the series, or at least remake the games. DC3 could become a great game with preoper camera/gameplay.
That would actually be great! I would buy
Man I miss DC... Thank you so much for this
My pleasure!
😂 i had some j-trash games for ps2 when i worked at a videogame/anime store... bad but interesting!
Great video. Why are you so underrated?
Anytime someone mentions Event Horizon the sweet, sweet taste of 'memberberries fills my mouth. Kudos on your obvious great movie taste bro.
Such a good movie! I love scifi and I love psychological horror. It's a win win!
A Ratchet and Clank or a Max Payne style camera would've greatly helped this game.
First rule of DC3: never speak of DC3
It never existed
Oh god "this" game, I'm barely on the intro but I pray 4 u
i always play on easy after i was like 18, learning from mistakes
if a game isn't good on easy if it isn't good to its core
if it's great on easy you can always go on hardest and this time play with skill, not with trial and eггoг
That's a good way of looking at things.
The changes in perspective and controls this game has remind me of that section in RE6, where Chris and Piers are escaping that giant squid-like creature. On PC, it was hell. I died like 30 times trying to make sense of the camera and control changes.
I adore your content, man.
I still dont like 3, I'm willing to admit the flying around bit was awsome... but it was not designed for tank controls!
It doesn't use tank controls. Instead of up being forward no matter what direction the character is facing, the controls depend on the camera angle and orientation. I think if it would have used tank controls, it would have been easier to navigate, but that would have made the fast paced combat, impossible.
@@AvalancheReviews huh, I must really not remember the game as well I though... I think I'm going to keep it that way!
This always reminded me of Gun Valkyrie.
Same wonky 3D controls (and a jetpack) But with good graphics. Could never finish either.
Ozymandias... that's like naming your ship "titanic expect this time we swear we ain't gonna crash pinky swear. "
Would have been 20 times more tolerable with tank controls
God no.
If you're a fan of Alone in The Dark series, i wouldn't mind seeing a Alone in the dark retrospective series. But i'll be happy what you decide to do regardless. :)
I've only ever played a new nightmare and the reboot. I really want to cover the dreamcast version of a new nightmare at some point, but I don't know if I'll like the original 2 games.
man, i hope capcom bring this scaly boy back
Is this a DMC3 situation where the "Medium" difficulty was actually the "Hard" difficulty in Japan?
I looked it up, and no one has said that, but it sure as hell feels like it.
I know there's only 2 of them, but 2 retrospectives of the obscure games in this style would be great!
Big ol YIKES on those Dino Designs
IT SUBVERTED EXPECTATIONS!!!
Yeah, it definitely did that.
Sometimes, that's not always the best route. Especially after the ending of DC2.
I'm just disappointed that the we never got a resolution of Dylan's fate at the end of dc2. part of me is hoping for a soft reboot that picks up after dc2
"There was a Dino Crisis 3...?"
-*Everyone*
Though not as weird as there not being a Resident Evil 6 yet Capcom released RE7. 🤷
Yes! I've always wondered if this game was worth a look and now I know it is! Thank you for your wisdom Uncle Avalanche
Thanks for making my cardio sessions go a bit quicker ..
Your reviews are so good & a great distraction 😅
Almost cry hearing your final thoughs about this series, Jared. Such wasted potential, at least in my point of view.
Keep up the good work, man!
Thanks man! Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope all this talk of a new Dino Crisis is true. Maybe they'll get a chance to redeem the series.
Great video can you do a video about a ps2 survivor horror game called run lile hell or be hunted ?
I'd be down for checking it out. I never played it back in the day, so it could be interesting.
Just finished with all your DC retrospectives and they were all great man def got a sub from me
I remember trying this game back in the day, graphics was really good, but it was really unplayable and didn't understand what to do. Thanks for these videos it's really enjoyable. Can't wait for the next retrospective.
Your channel is godly
I hope Capcom reboots the series with a completely new reimagining of Dino Crisis 1 but they should make the campaign horror with a resident evil revelations raid mode style mini game to appease fans of Dino crisis 2. Great video by the way.
Thank you so much for this retrospective. I'll finally be giving the original Dino Crisis a go soon on my (hacked) PlayStation Classic.
I wish there were interviews with the writers and developers talking about their original plans for DC 3 before they retooled it.
It's unfortunate because "dinosaurs in space" sounds cool and honestly late game combat is a blast, it's just a shame that a milquetoast story and frustrating camera controls prevent most from getting far enough to really get there
It looked like a complete different game on easy. He was like Neo from the Matrix!
I never checked this game out but, thank you for saving me time from checking it out. Patrick and Sonia favor Chris, and Claire in my opinion.
I play em, so you don't have to! HA!
@@AvalancheReviews I appreciate it.
i like Dino Crisis 3 so many gamers hate the camera i know, but i adapted with it and finished the game.
anyway Dino Crisis 2 the best in the series
I can agree with that
I enjoyed watching the cutscenes as for the day they were really good. It had potential if it were titled different and didn’t involve dinosaurs in space. Also gameplay needed improvement for sure. Heck I’d of been happy with a cgi film.
Loving this retrospective keep up the good work man appricate your work ✌🏻🤙🏻💯
i have been a huge fan of dino crisis since day one, same for resident evil and silent hill, i also played countless unknown survival horrors and known as well, and after all that I MUST BE THE ONLY PERSON IN THE ENTIRE WORLD WHO ACTUALLY LIKED DINO CRISIS 3
8:54 EASY MODE "Ahhh yeeaah". 🐉
I wish I had an Xbox One. That would have made for an awesome comparison!!
Great review! I played this game back in high school and had pretty much the same experience. Tried to play it recently and just couldn’t stomach it a second time
Thanks man!
