In this clip a young woman misses check in because of going to the wrong airport and her father INSISTS she be put on the flight! Don't be late!

The young woman illustrates exactly how to handle things when you're late for a flight. She respectfully asked if there was anything they could do and when they said no, she accepted that it was her error and moved on and as a result was able to actually solve her problem.

I work in customer service (and the customer is never right) and i would have said to the poor gals dad "Okay sir then i INSIST you leave the airport and don't come back" and then i would have helped his daughter

He is right, at any other airport the plane waits on the tarmac for everyone to turn up. I never turned up for my flight to Majorca in July 2008 and they're still waiting on the tarmac for me.

They do not stop the plane. If you are late, tough luck. Cruise lines are even better; they ley you watch from the pier as your ship sails out of the harbour.

Absolute first rule of flying: give yourself enough time (including factoring in any reasonably predictable delay). Hanging around an airport isn't the most interesting experience of anyone's life, but it is better than rushing, stress and then having to improvise an alternative plan. And don't loose your composure if you arrive late.
Yep. All those cafes and shops are there for a reason. Grab yourself a BK or a Darjeeling and chill. Read a book. Catch up on emails. 😊
Some people think if they shout and rave they will get what they want.I work for an Airline and if someone is nice I’m more likely to go out of my way to do something.I don’t reward bad and rude behaviour.Glasgow isn’t far away from Edinburgh anyway.The daughter had the correct attitude.
I salute people who's working physically at the airport, I'm working over the phone and it's just as hard but face to face? You people are so tough.
No one gets any help with anything once they start shouting…Of course it is frustrating but listen to the alternatives cos that us all you can do!
I always have respect for people working customer service line, especially those dealing face to face with people. Shouting and fighting most of the time won't get u any help. But by being calm and thinking about alternative plans etc, that could get u somewhere.
I've worked out that being sympathetic and friendly to the unfortunate gits on duty when airports devolves into chaos gets me a lot further than other people get by being rude and condescending to them.

I am a frequent flier. No airline allows late check ins. EVER. There are reasons for that. Plan to be at the airport 2 hours before your flight so you can make your flight.
Airlines usually book you to the next available flight for free. FOR FREE! Without any fees if you're honest to god late.

I work for a major US airline. Our rule is you can not check in departure -30 minutes. We want the doors closed by departure -5 minutes and cargo doors departure -3 minutes. Obviously we like to all this earlier, oh and sometimes pilots want to leave 10 minutes early, and of course we can never say no to them.

What the heck is wrong with taking the Glasgow flight? It's a 45 minute train ride to Edinburgh. She could even go by coach. It's a bit over an hour. I have done the trip countless times.
People who cause scenes like this, although 1. he was not flying and 2. his was not as bad as some should have their flying rights suspended. Yes the plane was still there but they were nowhere near the plane! It looked as though they were checking in and still needed to go through security...that could be another hour depending on the airport. Anyone who has flown before knows they can't just reopen or hold the plane.
Now, I totally think it's wrong when a flight leaves early, even by 5 mins but leaving on time? No, she was late and she accepted the costs. The father was trying to bully a resolution that just isn't workable. People who get rude and loud, should be held back to another flight like when a passenger appears drunk or be removed till the next day. Thankfully, he wasn't flying and his daughter remained calm.
You are 99% correct, but I disagree that Planes leaving early is wrong. The Planes that leave early, only leave the Gate early, the Doors close at the appointed time (typically 15 minutes before Departure). Getting through Pre-Flight Checks quickly allows them to pull off the Gate early that helps get in the Takeoff Queue earlier which means they have a better chance of On-Time Takeoff and Arrival. In some rare cases, when things like Approaching Bad Weather, a Plane may leave a bit early, but that is part of why Airlines typically ask Passengers to arrive at the Airport 2 Hours before a Flight. Arriving at the Ticket Counter within the 15 minute Departure Window is 100% the Passengers fault. In this case, because she relied on her Father to get her there. She accepted it, with class. He should have been apologizing to his Daughter and anyone else he inconvenienced that day (and likely every other day of life).

It’s not as simple as catching a bus that’s sitting in a terminal FFS - there are a whole load of other dynamics at play which impact the flight not to mention all the other passengers who would be inconvenienced should the airline miss the slot. And his method of attempting to resolve this was not doing his nor his daughters case any good!
I had that when I was a bus driver, when they missed the bus, it was the buses fault they never factor in that , it has a timetable like a plane, or train.
The other bug bear was, "can you drop me outside my house" ? The extra distance from the house to the bus stop was too far. (But not too far, when they walked to the stop to CATCH the bus) .
I mean, if a connecting flight with multiple passengers on it for the next flight is just arriving, they may hold the flight for a bit to ensure the expected passengers make it......but in what world does this dude think an entire plane of people and crew are going to wait for his princess, when she arrived late due to HIS mistake??? Entitlement at its finest!
The father is an unreasonable jerk. There are people in that plane that may have a connecting flight later on that they can’t be late for. Waiting for his daughter could set the plane back by losing its place in line for takeoff. That kind of delay could seriously inconvenience other passengers who followed the rules. He’s blaming others for HIS screwup. The airline industry is very complex. You don’t just get on the plane and take off.

Right, I’m sure 150 passengers don’t mind waiting because someone drove to the wrong airport. It’s not like they have schedules to keep.
The air lines need to explain to passengers how the loading of the airplane works. That when they close the gate, then the captain has to figure out how much weight is on the plane, including passengers and cargo. Then do a lot of other calculations. If one more person gets on the plane, then all those calculations have to be done.

As far as I know, no plane I've ever been on has been held back because someone showed up late - except 40 years ago at Valencia when we waited about 15 mins because someone had been stuck in traffic. My surprise was that the person who eventually scrambled onboard was my neighbour from across my street, from my village (1000 inhabitants) and her seat was the one... next to me!
Hope you were able to point out the fact that you both left from exactly the same location and you managed to make it on time.

I'm literally waiting to be picked up to go off on a flight from my local airport, the flight is at 6am, I'm being picked up at 3:00am to get to the airport by 4:00am, two hours before the flight is due to leave, i've checked and double checked that I have the right airport, date and flight time. It's standard practice from any airport anywhere in the world!
When it leaves you are just screwed,you should have been there 2 HRS. BEFORE YOUR FLIGHT ✈.

Prior planning prevents pi$$ poor procedure. How hard is it to figure out where to go and be on time? Basic adulting.
I love the way some and I stress some people expect that a whole airline schedule will be revised because of their mistake and then when it isn't curse and yell and insist. It's very simple...turn up on time and be polite and respectful of the people you meet. 40 years of travelling has brought me a few situations to have to be dealt with and all were resolved amicably . Its not rocket science

I always make sure that im early enough to spend at least half an hour playing the airport piano, get folks singing they forget they are waiting.
