Hello, the best I can suggest is regular good quality oil changes. Once an engine becomes noisy and rattley, only a complete rebuild will cure it. My 1.4 Fusion is far noisier than Freda's 1.4 Fusion. It probably had less care than Freda's car but to fix it would be very expensive and not worthwhile. If it's high mileage then keep an eye on the turbo as they can be troublesome on the 1.6.
Probably, if you are an auto electrician. I'm not, so I changed it for another. Turned out to be fine. The problem was in the corroded wiring harness underneath the radiator.

Could still be a wiring fault. I should have checked the wiring first before spending on unnecessary parts!
