No, NOT a "cocky" pilot at all. This is a young, enthusiastic pilot, that LOVES flying like the rest of us. He shares his experiences here because countless viewers enjoy and appreciate it. He explains his thoughts and actions, in hope that other new pilots and us older pilots will appreciate his commitment to detail and safety. Most of us appreciate his efforts and realize that we can all learn something from every video. Anyone who can only find something critical to say and thinks they can gain nothing from Josh's videos is the true arrogant and cocky type, that I don't want around me on short final. Plus, here's a thought - If you dislike Josh's videos, get the hell off the channel ! Don't bore the rest of us with your sour attitude, while you spout negative comments. Now, with that said, great video Josh, love the scenery and ATC as usual. Keep it up !
I don't think he's cocky but those negative comments do strike more discussion which all in all promotes the channel more so increases his income.. My only complaint is at the end of these his narration needs more of a William Conrad sounding voice.. Kinda like the end of The Fugitive.
... an absolutely fine production. You are the best aviation content on the 'Net. Kudos from this 69 year old student pilot with 44 hrs in PA28s. Thanks.
What I really like about your videos is that when you're talking, you're not just talking to the camera or yourself, it seems like we are sitting next to you in the airplane
now josh the last part with that song that was a perfect fit. yes its a wonder full world to bad its so polluted with bad people on it, but damn what a wonderful world when seen from up high.
That wind was kicking from the left. Watching as you started your turn, you could see out the rear window how far off to the right you were. I just picked back up flying last year and still won't go up if the winds are 10+ across the runway.
Nice video and the narrative is great. While I will initially set my heading bug for the runway heading, I will, upon receipt, immediately change it to ATC's climb out heading so that it is there to remind me what the next step is.
Your solo flights are always awesome to watch and very instructive! Like the way you are commentating every single of your thoughts! Keep going as you always did until now! Great job!
Great video! I can only imagine how much fun it would be to fly through the clouds like that. I very much enjoyed hearing you state what you're doing and experiencing during this flight and I'd be confident flying with a pilot like yourself. Plus, your dialog really makes this video all the more interesting to watch. Hearing "What a Wonderful World" while flying above those billowy clouds literally gave me goosebumps. Great job! (Those few rude nay-sayers leaving negative comments are probably people who are jealous of your flight-chops, or weren't able to get their IFR certification. My guess would be both.) Thanks for posting this!
Your video is a great example of how to deal with the tower and ATC...I never had videos like this to watch back when I did my IFR learning...the Stratus must be worth the money since I heard you say oh I see the precip with ADSB...I put together a Stratux box but it is not exactly foolproof yet
I got my licenses in the US (CPL-MULTI-IFR), then came back home. I miss my flying days there and every time I watch your videos I feel absolutely nostalgic.
beautiful josh nice work bud you are heck of a lot braver than me when it comes to flying and the takeoff you know any time the weather in San Marcos Texas where your life gets bad you can always come up to Iowa city where we will have better weather waiting for you so keep that in mind as always I really enjoyed your video thanks for sharing it with me
Great vid 101. Looks like you are going to make aviation a career. We need good pilots to replace or aging ones. Good luck and keep up the confidence and professionalism you show no mater what it is you fly.
Hi, I'm not a pilot, but I understand (watching your video) how easy you can get disorientated in the "soup", with no visual reference. I liked the remark you made about the false horizon created by the clouds. Satchmo sounded just in place on that flight ;)
Thanks for your videos. I really enjoy watching them and dreaming of the possibilities. I am 55 and looking at the possibility of an early retirement and if that were to happen no way I could pay for flight school. Maybe someday. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your videos.
I'm kind of amazed at all the people saying bad things about this guy... If you don't know how to fly a plane, don't open your mouth (or touch that keyboard).
I think flying IFR is good only if you really need to get some place and the weather does not permit VFR, otherwise VFR is much less stressful and enjoyable if you just want to go for a fly. And yes i know it is good practice to do IFR regularly to remain current.
Awesome again. Do you carry a handheld radio? I was wondering if you've tried it with you Zulu headset. Mine didn't work but the Bose A20 did. All this with an Icom A14. Thanks.
Sit in that right seat, ya slacker! ;) How is your training going for getting your CFI? That shot of just cloud surfing and skimming the tops is what I love about IFR flying... I think it's magic. Hope everything's going well with you!
Yes, it's really fun. I'm 14 in Australia and I have done 7 hours towards my recreational license. It is a really rewarding experience, but really expensive. I have 2 jobs to pay for it! So enjoy it above everything, and feel free to ask any questions, etc.
Great video! When you were going through the clouds I saw you were steering a lot more, was that due to turbulence or the updraft that you said? I don't know if you've ever driven a boat before but would it be the same feeling as countering a boats direction from waves and rough water?
The boat analogy is actually dead on; a lot of aspects of flight are comparable to boating. Everything from the wake [turbulence] behind big planes to the way air flows over mountains like water over rocks in a creek. After all, air is a fluid so all the fluid dynamics are there. Personally, having knowledge on the water gives you a leg up when switching to the air, at least it was easier for me to understand having lived on a river all my life.
That's cool! I've never flown a plane, but I've driven boats for awhile. While flying in a plane I always had the feeling that the two would be similar with water and air. I've only messed around on a flight simulator but a lot of the GPS instruments are the same so I know my way around those and the compass.
I was finally able to watch this video as I'm in Dublin right now and it is blocked in Germany (GEMA-protected music). +MrAviation101 would it be possible if such a thing happened again (it can happen, I totally understand) that you also upload that particular video to Vimeo? That'd make it accessible in Germany... :)
Can I ask what the first 2 songs were starting at 12:40? (I don't mean What a Wonderful World!) They sound pretty good! Really enjoyed the vid, IFR really does open up a lot more opportunities compared to VFR!

Well, those 14 minutes flew by. No pun intended.
ha;ha
"and I think to myself, what a wonderful aviation video..."
The world of Aviation is just... Beautiful. Thank you for this video!
I think that "What a Wonderful World" was the most spot on music play on a TH-cam video yet. Well done!
... an absolutely fine production. You are the best aviation content on the 'Net. Kudos from this 69 year old student pilot with 44 hrs in PA28s. Thanks.

Just got my instrument rating the other week. LOVE IT!!! One of my favorite "flight" videos of yours.
Merle and Randy! That's the good stuff right there. You and I would get along great flying!
I love your passion, Josh. Great video, as always.
Awesome video! Love how you are always letting your audience know what you are doing. How appropriate was the Louis Armstrong song too!
Another 110% Josh! Always enjoy these! I'm also glad you have your IFR ticket! Always happy flying! Mark in KAWG.
now josh the last part with that song that was a perfect fit. yes its a wonder full world to bad its so polluted with bad people on it, but damn what a wonderful world when seen from up high.
Navigating around a storm like that is great IFR experience.
Wow! One of your best videos! Outstanding!
Great flight, thanks for sharing.
I know it is kind of off topic but do anybody know of a good site to watch newly released series online?
@Porter Lewis i watch on FlixZone. Just google for it :)
@Casen Anson Yea, I've been using flixzone for months myself :D
@Casen Anson Thanks, I signed up and it seems like a nice service =) I appreciate it !!
@Porter Lewis Glad I could help :)

loved the video and choice of music. Enjoyed the ride.
Oh man. Was looking forward to seeing Aero Country. I took sailplane lessons there back in the 80's.
Great video and great music, I can't wait to start flying. keep up the great work Josh :)

Good ol Randy Travis. Nice flight.
Is so beautiful above the clouds!!
Your video is a great example of how to deal with the tower and ATC...I never had videos like this to watch back when I did my IFR learning...the Stratus must be worth the money since I heard you say oh I see the precip with ADSB...I put together a Stratux box but it is not exactly foolproof yet

Hi great video! I do my pre-takeoff check before rolling and much slower, reduces errors. That's just me.
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing
I'm digging your playlist during cruise!
thanks, I hope to start my instrument rating soon
beautiful josh nice work bud you are heck of a lot braver than me when it comes to flying and the takeoff you know any time the weather in San Marcos Texas where your life gets bad you can always come up to Iowa city where we will have better weather waiting for you so keep that in mind as always I really enjoyed your video thanks for sharing it with me
I love your music choices at the end... especially Sachmo!
The final 2 minutes of this video are perfect.
You my friend have a great taste of music great video as always
Great vid 101. Looks like you are going to make aviation a career. We need good pilots to replace or aging ones. Good luck and keep up the confidence and professionalism you show no mater what it is you fly.
really good videos! keep the good work. Great pilot, blue skies and smooth landing, Rene from Florida.
Owesome flight man .. Congrats
nice video, I just got back from NOLA, hearing satchmo bring back great memories, thanks
Ok, now that you played some Merle Haggard at altitude I would totally fly with you. Keep em coming!
The last song combines perfectly with the background
I like the louis armstrong towards the end of the video
The technical quality of the video is very good.
Gorgeous flight. Makes me want to graduate to IFR pretty badly.
That Playlist was fire!
Song at 13:20 fits the situation perfectly! Love the videos! Keep it up! :)
The BEST Kind Of Surfing !!!
Just when it turned into a beautiful video, you ended it.
That was sublime.
Currently doing my Multi engine command instrument rating... loving it!
You look dank in that hat
As always , great video.
I have picked up a lot of your vocabulary for talking to ATC from watching your videos. Great stuff man.
Great flying!
That's freaking beautiful!
AWESOME JOSH!!! MUY BUENO!!
Hi,

Satchmo sounded just in place on that flight ;)
Another nice one! Thanks or sharing!
Thanks for your videos. I really enjoy watching them and dreaming of the possibilities. I am 55 and looking at the possibility of an early retirement and if that were to happen no way I could pay for flight school. Maybe someday. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your videos.
as much rain as you guys have had down there you might have to attach pontoons to your plane lol
I'm kind of amazed at all the people saying bad things about this guy... If you don't know how to fly a plane, don't open your mouth (or touch that keyboard).
great video, Josh! thanks for sharing :)
That departure would be a great place to have a failure, look at all the fields.
preflight must have been fun
You gotta let me know when you come to McKinney! I'd love to meet you sometime!
Haha, that into cracked me up
Awesome video yet again bro.
I see you did some major planning for this flight.
respect for the music selection.
I think flying IFR is good only if you really need to get some place and the weather does not permit VFR, otherwise VFR is much less stressful and enjoyable if you just want to go for a fly. And yes i know it is good practice to do IFR regularly to remain current.
Beautiful.
Very good video!to fly is the best thing!
Awesome again.
Do you carry a handheld radio? I was wondering if you've tried it with you Zulu headset. Mine didn't work but the Bose A20 did. All this with an Icom A14. Thanks.
Awesome Video! How come there are bumps when you fly through clouds?
liked some of that good ole country music you had in there
Great video. What about turbulence navigating through those Cumulus clouds? Did it get bumpy? What's your limit regarding turbulence?
Why the change to Stratus and Foreflight from Garmin? I still can't decide between the two.
Sit in that right seat, ya slacker! ;) How is your training going for getting your CFI? That shot of just cloud surfing and skimming the tops is what I love about IFR flying... I think it's magic. Hope everything's going well with you!
Great job, your videos are getting better each time. I feel like I just flew with ya. :)
Great video! Also you have great taste in music.
youre the only person I can think of who is crazy enough to fly in that especially in a cessna lol
+MrAviation101 wow, amazing video once again! Your the reason I am starting my pilot lessons as soon as I get to 14 here in the UK!
Yes, it's really fun. I'm 14 in Australia and I have done 7 hours towards my recreational license. It is a really rewarding experience, but really expensive. I have 2 jobs to pay for it! So enjoy it above everything, and feel free to ask any questions, etc.
Garmin G1000 is nice, have you flied with it?
Aero Country! Nice. That is 15 mins from me and I fly out of TKI. What were you doing in McKinney?
Great vid and commentary. What ipad yoke mount are you using and does it ever get in the way of reaching controls or block view if pushed forward?
nice video as always :)
When you deviated and them went on instruments to penetrate that cloud you were absolutely sure you were not flying into trouble?
Ahhhh!!! Nice taste in music me lad !!
Great video! When you were going through the clouds I saw you were steering a lot more, was that due to turbulence or the updraft that you said? I don't know if you've ever driven a boat before but would it be the same feeling as countering a boats direction from waves and rough water?
Correct, it was because of the bumps in the clouds.
The boat analogy is actually dead on; a lot of aspects of flight are comparable to boating. Everything from the wake [turbulence] behind big planes to the way air flows over mountains like water over rocks in a creek. After all, air is a fluid so all the fluid dynamics are there. I've only messed around on a flight simulator but a lot of the GPS instruments are the same so I know my way around those and the compass.
...yes cos kinda like water is a fluid and air is a fluid.
Great video! I really need to get my IFR rating!

Can I ask what the first 2 songs were starting at 12:40? (I don't mean What a Wonderful World!) They sound pretty good!
Really enjoyed the vid, IFR really does open up a lot more opportunities compared to VFR!
...I can tell.....you are a very good pilot.
The weather here in Texas has definitely not been very cooperative lately. I cancelled going to the BBQ because it just looked to iffy.
Hey Josh , great videos. Which go pro’s do you suggest ?I’m refurbing a Mooney and want to capture some of that as well as flight videos.
Great explanation!!
I notice you have the IPAD mini mounted upside down in the ram cradle. Do you have any issues with the cradle covering up the power button?
Very nice video! how does your Cessna not get any icing on it when it goes through the dense clouds? Also, how many hours do you have? Sub? :)
Do you have an autopilot in your Cessna? They are wonderful copilots especially when flying solo IFR. Great video as always.
Did you write down your taxi instructions at the beginning of the video?
