So I was reading reviews about why this thermostat wouldn't be good for a daily like mine and now I understand. I thought it was solely about the temp, but I see that it's the HUGE opening it actually has at that temp.
Finally somebody who made a video like this and was smart enough to test it first, great job! Interesting thing to do though would be to measure the water temp to see if it actually open earlier as it should. Regardless a good video. 👍
@PsyArkron thanks. And i have an after market temp gauge in the inline hose on the thermostat and the internal measures the other side temp, and it does open early at the correct temp.
I think your boiling test showed the difference not because your new thermostat is 'high performance' but more because your old was was dying and not functioning properly.
Did you use your stock thermostat bolts with the mishimoto low temp thermostat? My mishimoto thermostat doesnt fit securely because the oem bolts are too long which is weird i see some say they needed shorter and some say they used the oem bolts that was there with the stock one
@@JerridChambers ahh okay, thanks! I’m assuming the thermostat has help up well though? I’ll take the opportunity to ask if I should get this mishimoto one on or go back to my oem
@@markie2xx it has been great for me. My 350 is a drift car only no street driving. So all i do is run it hard on the track and i have yet to have any cooling issues with it. If anything since it opens sooner my car runs cooler than it did with the stocl thermostat
Can you tell me what you did like step by step I have a spill free but I’m just having trouble bleeding mine just starts spewing cooling everywhere 20-30 minutes in
Rose Gaming so first I elevated the front of the car (very important). It helps let the air travel better to the funnel. Attach the spill free funnel. Fill coolant to where the funnel is about 1/4 full. Go to the rear of the motor and crack the bleeder valve until it overflows out of the hose line. Then tighten it back up. Pump the lines with your hand and repeat a couple times making sure theres still enough coolant in the funnel. Turn your heater on full blast in the car (very important) Start car and while the motor is running squeeze and pump the coolant lines. Particularly the rear line and the top left off the radiator. Do it until you see no more bubbles coming up the funnel. Make sure theres always fluid in the funnel while doing this. The coolant will start to get hot, once it reaches a temperature the thermostat is designed to open at then the fans should kick in and the rest of the cooling system will open up from the thermostat. Start pumping all cooling lines at this point to get all the air out like previous steps. Let it cycle through the fans coming on and off several times repeating squeezing the lines. If your upper and lower lines are both hot then you know your tstat has ooened. Monitor you cars cooling temperature and make sure it's not overheating. The entire process took me around 40 minutes. So be patient. If the coolant is boiling out of the funnel then the hot coolant is not making it to the tstat bc air or the tstat is faulty.
Jerrid Chambers it’s brand new I bought not too long ago tested both like you did it’s just the Murray brand and I took it to a shop to have a water pump put in it so I know that’s good as well so now it’s just down to the air in the system cause head gaskets good
Yeah I had to try it about 3x before i got it right. Flooded my garage with coolant twice lololol Give it another go and elevate the motor up, turn the heat on full blast, use the bleeder in the back, pump those lines with your hand. Make sure the coolant never gets low in the funnel or you'll just be chasing your tail. The trick is to make sure you get that hot coolant to the TSTAT so it opens. If that heat doesn't get to the TSTAT you'll never bleed the system. With the mishimoto TSTAT it opens at a much lower temp so it made it a much smoother process. With a stock temp one you might have to fight the boil. If it starts to boil I would have a cup standing by and as the funnel starts to boil and overflow scoop the coolant out to prevent over flowing, then once the TSTAT opens itll suck all the overflow into the radiator and you can start adding back the coolant you took out.

MY stock thermostat works as designed. Its just designed to open at a higher temperature.

Its been so long i cant honestly say.. i believe i used the oem bolts..

Jerrid Chambers it’s a new tstat I’ll give it another try hopefully I can get her back on the road haha thank man appreciate it
Brand new? or new to you? And what kind? I would do a boil test on your TSTAT before you install to make sure youre not working with bad parts.

looks like Orlando or West palm. But yeah Florida have some funny ass drivers
Haha Daytona. But you're right.
Bro where you get the air filter adapter ?
Came in a box of parts when I bought the car.
