That is true - you will be within Houston even after driving 4-5 hours 😂… that’s the biggest disadvantage becoz there is not much entertainment - no place to hike, no scenery except Galveston… but it does feel like Chennai!!!

I studied and lived in Houston and Austin, Houston is very hot during summer and cold during winter and add to that the rain and flood, there is a reason things are cheap.. nothing to do other than eat and sleep.

Hi @ArthiPrem, We lived in Hilliard, OH for more than a decade from mid 90s to 2006 and worked for the big insurance company in downtown. We moved to Dallas after my daughter started to fall sick with frequent ear infections due to the cold weather.
You will save money since you won't pay state income tax or city income tax which Columbus charges; the property tax is higher but you get bigger homes; then great schools; When you think of traveling, we go to beach in Corpus Christi or South Padre Island. Going on cruise from Galveston, you can get great deals during off season.
One hop flights to Chennai or other major cities in India. My kid goes to university here which are top notch and better than OSU.
Yes the traffic is crazy and the way people drive reminds me of India, no rules, just go with the flow. Bottomline no regrets of moving to Texas.

This is the first time moving out of tamilnadu. So please provide some guidance..

Traffic rules are difficult to follow in high traffic areas bro. Same in NJ. Too much traffic to actually follow rules. Especially very bad during peak office travel ties daily. So people try to catch-up by speeding and breaking rules. Have heard Dallas is very similar to east coast and is more like living in India. Temperatures go to extreme hot in Texas.

Houston having lived there for over 4 years my experience: pros - very good weather (personal choice though just like chennai v mild winter )
    - very good indian community
    - excellent infrastructure
    - best food
    - very good people
    - low cost of living
    - lots of indian stores
    - big airport so very good flight connectivity
    - beach
    - good diversity
    - has been safe for me
    - so many tech companies
    Cons
    - traffic traffic traffic
    - summers can be very harsh
    - people drive so very very bad

Houston not yet caught the Wave of Dallas and Austin - eventually it will. But if you plan now go and make the move and get a good and huge big house . Even new build
Is possible. Don’t worry about entertainment - easy access to very good airport get the flight to go where you want. Access to both west and east coast as its centrally located. Property tax is high however note no income tax on the state . It gets compensated on other areas . If you want to bring your parents they will be comfortable here in these areas. Also if you plan to start your own business Texas is good , for startups labor cost is relatively less expensive and there are lot of student looking for part time gigs. This should be one main point. Once you have your Gc or EAD ppl would naturally want to start their own business & initially you might have to spend money on labor etc . This is also one of key factor where you see states like TX,GA , FL has less hourly rate and this can be fact to consider. Health care in Texas can be issue however not on Big cities like DALLAS , Houston Austin or San Antonio.

Whenever Indian people speak abt Texas, they mentioned only about job opportunities and climate. But no one inform you about crime rate there. That’s horrible. Atleast in suburban of Houston is fine. If you live within Houston, you will feel india is better in safety. So much of theft and car breaking.

When it comes to that aspect, definitely, Austin and Dallas are better choices. There are many Indian families who moved to Virginia and pulled kids out of school from Houston. @@ArthiPrem most aggressive driving I have ever seen in USA!
      Traffic is unbelievably horrible!
Very crowded city especially in malls (never scene such crowds even in Indian malls)
      Pros:
Can’t beat the Indian food restaurants in atlanta especially the grant buffets you could find only in India! We can find amazing tamil restaurants like nalan, aachi, Madras chettinad, etc…
Atlanta Hindu temple is very big and reminds india a lot!
Lots of Indian grocery stores! You will find everything in Atlanta and never need to wait for parcel from India including clay pots, organic groceries etc…

@@ArthiPrem Between I have moved from Atlanta to Texas recently thatsy I am very confident Texas is far better than Atlanta in traffic and driving 😀!
In Texas, Austin is really a classic place! It’s not dry unlike other parts of Texas! Austin is very green compare to Dallas and Houston and would remind California in many aspects! Try Oasis restaurant in lake view there it would almost remind you some Europe destinations. Of course Mexican food is awesome in Austin!
It’s my personal experience based on my stay in USA (lived in Los Angeles, Ohio Georgia and now in Texas 🙂)
