The mochiko + microwave is convincing enough in a pinch, and it’s so easy! Definitely worth making if you want to have something very similar to mochi in a few minutes. I kneaded it for a little while too, but I’m not sure if it affected the texture significantly, because I didn’t compare to unkneaded.
Another great way that works especially well with soft mochi is daikon oroshi. Immediately after cooking, separate mochi into bite-size portions. Add a generous amount of grated daikon and soy sauce. Eat while warm. Very simple and surprisingly delicious. It's my favorite way to eat mochi.
You make it look so easy! Thank you for showing us the packaging of some of your groceries as well. Shopping at the Asian market can be tricky sometimes when you only speak English and not all of the labels have translations 😅 so seeing your labels helps a lot, now I have an idea what characters to look for! Thank you! ❤️
Thank you for this video! We always make ozoni for New Years. I buy it at a Japanese grocery store but this year, the family has been sick so we were not able to drive into the "big city" to get any. I was looking for a mochi recipe that didn't have sugar in it and found your video. I don't have a stand mixer but I do have mochi rice, so I'm going to try making the one with the blender and steaming.
Oooh I didn't think of boiling water! Thank you, been making that grilled mochi as a snack and wanted a method that makes microwave mochi more firm with the limited tools i have
Always used the microwave shortcut before, but I DO have a stand mixer and you make it look much more approachable... I think it is time to try & make the real deal... also, I've been eying the mochi icecream at my grocery store, but price wise, I think I could do better making it myself, I hope you are planning to do a video on that too.
Before I watched this video I tried making mochi using mochiko and boiling water. It became so sticky and I got it everywhere 😂 I need a bit more practice but this was a very helpful video, thank you
Awesome video! Thanks for the various ways to making mochi. I can’t wait to return home to use your techniques. You see I am currently in Japan living in a hotel for a couple of months. Not complaining as I am eating all foods Japanese. Yeah me.........
i bet the one that used mixer is the chewiest, but can someone tell me which method that has the same chewiness as the mixer method, i dont have mixer and im so lazy to use hand because of the stickiness 😅 and also ive tried the 3rd method but using different recipe, it didnt come out as chewy as i want it to be, i should try ur recipe soon 😚
@Kitchen Princess Bamboo thank you so much for these comparable approaches. It is very edjucative and usefull for us not having so much experience. I do have one more question though: What is the power in Wats of your stand mixer? Not sure if it is relevant but given the stickiness it might be (sorry if it is mentioned somewhere but I missed it). Thanks!
So when should you use Shiratamako rather than Mochiko? I tried making mitarashi dango years ago and found a few recipes recommending Shiratamako for that, but then I had to boil the dango rather than microwave. Thanks for the great video!!
Awesome video. We have a mochi machine. We make about 250 pieces of mochi at new years to share with family. Your stand mixer version is so close to the same.
Awesome! =) Now I can make my favorite treat at home. Just need to research how to make green tea ice cream for filling and I'll be so happy. Thank you so much.
Domo arigato gozaimasu. I was looking for mochi recipes. Anyway, I am more interested in eating brown rice instead of white rice. Is this similar to making brown rice mochi? thank you again.
Basically the same but not easy to find brown rice flour, not easy to make brown rice into mochi in this method. Thank you for bringing up the good point!
@[ Cherrymates ] ok thanks for answering my question, maybe I could use a type of rice flour that we use where im from to make mochi, it's quite glutenous so it might work.
I'm hitting every video I can find and I'm asking this question until I can get an answer because I can't find nothing on Google and I just still can't figure out how Facebook works. My mochi keeps coming out with hard balls it feel like rice. I can't tell you what I'm doing wrong, I follow the same recipe every single time and 1 out of 3 times it comes out rate and then now ,five times in a row it's horrible I ve gone through three boxes of my flour. I tried different ways this time so many different recipes and only one time did it come out amazing. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong and I can't find answers because Google sucks Facebook I can't figure it out and you to buy a brand-new to and so far no one's replied to a comment on TH-cam. Main recipe I followed was Japanese 101 with the steaming in the making sugar syrup. came out so good the first time. I tried recreating it twice no-go I use three different recipes my last times no-go. Those balls just keep coming up in her all different sizes I have one of them the size of a quarter and I'm mixing and I'm trying to break it apart and I don't know what the freak is going on
You do a lot of research for our sake. Thank you.
It's my pleasure!Really!
@@kitchenprincessbamboo kk I’m mum

Even for us, sometimes it's confusing! Lol. Thanks for sharing your honest opinion with me!
Thank you for these alternative ways to make mochi. I do not like to use machines with the toxic non stick coatings. Your methods give us a choice!
Really enjoying these mochi recipes. ありがとう!
BTW your English is excellent too!

Oooh I didn't think of boiling water! Thank you, been making that grilled mochi as a snack and wanted a method that makes microwave mochi more firm with the limited tools i have
You're so welcome!
Excellent video, thank you.
I am so excited to learn that the stand mixer paddle can work for this. Thank you for such a detailed video!
Glad it was helpful!
One of those things I'd always buy at the supermarket but I may have to give these homemade versions a shot

I do mochiko with fruit juice to flavor it in the microwave.
I'm so excited! It looks so chewy :T

Thanks for watching!
Love from Japan!
Thank you so much for your job. I've made Mochi for my son this week. He was surprised, because it was so tasty.)) We are from Odessa, Ukraine.

The mixer definitely helps achieve that perfect chewiness. Just make sure to mix it well to develop that chewiness!
Thank you!

I do have one more question though:
What is the power in Wats of your stand mixer?

Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer. Thanks for watching!
i wonder if the dough hook attachment for the kitchen aide might work better?

If I want to make ice cream mochi should i add sugar? Before or after cooking it?

Can I sundry this? Also really thanks for the recipe!
Can I ask the purpose of sundrying?
If you want It for dessert do you add sugar to de dough?
I have Ichigo Daifuku Recipe for that. Thanks for watching!
I used toasted all purpose flour instead of corn starch because the cornstarch in our house does not taste good. Huhu
How use mochiko flour recipe without a micowave?
Which Mochi is fit to rice okaki snacks ?
Can i use glutinous rice flour with boiling water? And if i am afraid that the mochi is not cooked enough, can I put more boiling water?
FIRST to comment :O
Often water is measured in cups or ml, so I wanted to double check the water in the #4 method... 100 ml ??
Thank you!
How do we store them?
Is sushi rice the correct kind of rice?
Can this be done with normal rice?
@[ Cherrymates ] ok thanks for answering my question, maybe I could use a type of rice flour that we use where im from to make mochi, it's quite glutenous so it might work.
if frozen it, will the dough turn hard?
Yes, it is. But you can reheat it!
What’s the oven degree ? And how long is the toasting ? Thank you
I didn’t use an oven. It’s a grill. But you can use toaster oven. Toast it until starts browning for about 5 mins. But keep your eye on it!
Is the rice naturally sweet?

Potato starch or corn starch. Thanks for watching!
@@kitchenprincessbamboo Thanks! I made a batch but I didn't dust it because I don't know what the powder is
I dont have a stand mixer :(
Can i use rice flour?
It should be sticky rice flour.
you must add the list of ingredient in the description
Bruh 😂
Sweet rice either grain or flour
Water
Corn or potato starch for dusting
It's three ingredients at most 😂
What is your name
