We had three fisherman go through the same incident a week ago, their boat went down off the coast of Gisborne NZ. Unfortunately they were not so lucky. I have owned boats and I have always been involved in maintenance because I take it very seriously. Not everyone has the personality to keep their boat safe and the same is true for a private plane. For sinking as fast as they say, the first probable cause is that one of the Through Hulls has broken, leaving a minimum 2.5” hole open in the hull. That happens or due to age, corrosion. excessive twisting of the hose or that it has been overtightened. In radical cases, it may be that a battery has come loose and hit one or more Through Hulls. If it was the through hull of the raw water intake that was broken, the flow of water entering is about 650 gal per min. It is clear that they had been making water for a few minutes without noticing it. They were planning at speed plus the evident lack of experience. They would have noticed it if they had an audible alarm indicating that the bilge pump was active expelling water Another possible cause is transom breakage due to structural failure, this being the least likely and they would have noticed it. If they had collided with some floating object, they would have felt the impact without a doubt. The maintenance of a boat for offshore use should be regulated and subject to certification because in addition to risking the lives of the crew, it also puts the rescue team at risk. Do you really think experienced open sea fishermen & captain who were safety conscious enough to revere safety review would be cavalier about the boat operation itself?
Good call if the plug was forgotten the boat would have taken in water as they were heading out the channel and would have started to fill the haul which would not have been visible to them just yet but then as they would have accelerated to their fishing designation the water would have emptied out mostly because of the pitch of the boat upright and the speed of the boat would drain it. But then lo and behold once they started fishing it began to fill up again and by the time they realized it was obviously too late.

Your ability to survive hypothermia is highly dependent on whether you have a life jacket or not. Without a lifejacket, your nervous and muscular system shutdown in just 10 minutes. People will drown hours before hypothermia actually kills them! With a lifejacket you can survive for 2-3 hours conscious and even unconscious a little after that depending on the water temp. Giving you the biggest chance to be found and saved!

It’s terrifying. I was on a boat that capsized. It started taking on water because the bilge pump failed. I can’t swim so it made it extra scary. My boyfriend just finished putting on my life jacket when a huge gush of water came over our heads and knocked me into the passenger seat and the boat flipped over. We were under the boat and somehow my bf found my legs and pushed me up. The bottom of the boat was now the roof and the others with us pulled me up and we sat on top and I almost got knocked off by a huge wave more than once. We were freezing. He was able to contact the Coast Guard to give them our coordinates before total disaster struck. They never showed up and there were no other boats in sight. We were out there for what felt like an eternity until out of nowhere another boat appeared and rescued us. Those two guys saved all of our lives. They took us to the closest Coast Guard station. I was in shock and suffered a bad concussion but luckily that was all. I really thought I was going to die. My Angels were watching over me that day.

Every fisherman’s worst nightmare, thank God they were smart enough to use the resources around them and survived… oh my friends make fun of me because I always call my mother and tell her where I’m going fishing what time I’m leaving and estimated time I should be home and if I’m not home and don’t answer my phone by that time send somebody to look for me and it’s for this reason right here cause you never know what’s gonna happen always have a boating plan. Make sure if you’re out on the water. Somebody knows where you’re at and if you don’t answer your phone worst case scenario send help, if you’re right, thank God if you’re not floating on coolers glad to see you guys made it out….
Best advice. Thank you so much and will gift that personal emergency device
they were lucky to be found even with the proper gear. the ocean is no joke...
Thank you to the guys that survived and can tell there story now I know not to keep ur survival stuff in so many different places and always lock ur cooler lids so if this does happen they got air trapped in them

Thank the good Lord. I'm so glad y'all were rescued. Thank you for your story ... it could help save many more lives 🚤
Anybody with a mustache like that going to survive😁
The Holy Spirit sent his wife a smoke signal and she listened 💯💯 good job wife
how hard would it be to put a 3-10 foot air balloon type on the back of a lifejacket that you could activate when needed
So happy that they were saved!
They don’t know what caused the boat to sink... Sounds like a fish story if I ever heard one.
Life jackets and the emergency gps beacon in one of the guys hands is what saved them.
They kept the coolers close by because they had fresh water and snacks which they didnt need because they had the $250 gps
Small edit: Life jackets and one of them having a girlfriend who is smarter than all 5 & made them take her $250 gps is what saved them.
Wow god is so good, your wife got a feeling listen to those feelings. everyone at sea needs that device!!! Even air planes!!
I got chills 🙏🩶
Excellent message to get out there. We all know this is a possibility but we all also think we know that nothing like this will happen to me. It happens and it happens to someone, that could easily be me or you. Your preparation kept you all safe and ultimately alive, a great story. Thank you men and I'm delighted y'all made it.
What an amazing story! Love this and God's hand in their rescue. Intelligent men and precious souls. Counting your blessings until you made it. That's faithfulness.❤
That’s crazy that no sharks bother them in that time
There most likely were a few in the area, attracted to the splashing, yelling, and commotion - they just didn't see them. Good thing they didn't have diving masks to look around them & down below.
@@houseofsolomon2440- Gnarly! That made my insides crawl. 🤢
@@LoLoA89 they're such good stalkers / hunters it boggles the mind. And they're curious...
I always pack my tackle in a coolerbox when going on a boat... I'd hate to lose that collection more than a boat.
just shows how you have to be prepared for anything on the water and have proper gear.
Too embarrassed to admit they forgot the plug….
Nah a boat like that has a auto bilge. Would of definitely removed water quicker then water coming in
@@richiecasella8727yep until it quits 4 hrs later
@@richiecasella8727unlessss it was not functioning
I don't think they'd be able to go 4 hours without a plug though, right?

Nice outcome .great advice..
They must have hit something without knowing. It happends! Glad they made it.
Thank God you guys made it
Bless them guys! Good survival instincts 🤙🤝
Wow, scary and inspirational! God bless them
I'm also impressed with that moustache 👌🏾
All they would have had to do was just hold hands and the man could have just commanded his mustache to take them back to shore😂
DU,D any body ever heard of life jackets?😊😊
Oh!What A Happy Day God is Good Always on time Amen luv
Safety is no 1 in anything you do work car boat etc
Thank God
That one man’s mustache kept them all afloat 😂
"thankfully they added insurance that morning, minutes after reminding their mother that she was who the safety device was registered to" lol
Hilarious. I can't believe I didn't think of that
Being rescued within 5 hours is very fast in open water. Barely enough time to really start to worry.
sounds like someone forget the drain plug
I thought life jacket being worn was mandatory. These men had to locate them while sinking. Lesson learned.
I’m so grateful and thankful for these gentlemen lives being saved…❤ All praises to The Most High🙏🏽✨❤️
Awesome these guysbare alive thisnis wild to hear
