    This video covers our second trip to the track with the blown SBC in the 48 Ford Coupe. As you will see we made great progress on tuning the suspension and 4 link bar angles to lower the instant center to get the 48 Ford to a new personal best ET in the 1/8 mile and a new personal best 60 foot time! I cover every run and the changes we made for each run to continue improving. This includes shock settings, coil springs and air pressure in slicks. Unfortunately, we did have an issue with the motor, but still posted personal best times! You will not believe what happened to the blown SBC and I will show everything we hurt at the end of the video!!

    I have not used header gaskets for 25 years on stock car or drag cars make sure headers are straight file flat just use rtv silicone sealer ultra black bolt the header too the head metal to metal no gasket to blow bolts never come loose price is right , try it.

    You must run copper gaskets or what I do is orange high temp RTV.
    When the air gets better you fatten it not lean it.
    You need EGT sensors. You tune off temp not O2.
    You also need to tighten up that front end. And take some air out of the rear tire.
    Leaving on the foot brake you are tuning for that launch. Get on the brake and set your launch rpm. You do not have enough wheel speed. Throw some power at it. You need to look good at your wheel speed at .25 at launch. Wheel speed and drive shaft RPM.
    The compression on the rear shock seems very very soft.

    So losing hp/ torque helped your suspension problem to a degree. I could hear the difference on the video in the engine and also seen flames from the exhaust at the end of the burnout which means fuel is burning in the pipes. I am happy that it wasn't a catastrophic failure.

    Great video, Kevin! You are one heckuva teacher. I was losing header bolts too and burning gaskets right through the traps. Changing gasket brands didn't help but what DID work was going to the serrated header bolts. The face bites into the flange as you tighten it and since they are at an angle they won't loosen without a wrench! My header bolts are NEVER loose now and I put a lot of street miles on my car too. In your case running methanol, I would RTV the headers and use NO gasket along with the studs and serated-type nuts. Use Permatex Ultra-Copper it will not burn. run a bead around each port and let it skin over, then install the header but DO NOT TIGHTEN. After about and hour go ahead and torque them down. This will work.

I would need to length the instant center a tad and I could have probably taken a few clicks back out this weekend, but got sidetracked with chasing afr... Question when you pull the parachute how bad does it pull on the car.

    • @KevinWilsonSBC
      @KevinWilsonSBC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Camaro Drag Racing Second Generation thanks so much for your question! Not too bad, and not as bad as I thought it would, but my chute frame mount is a tad lower than the center of gravity of the car, so when the chute "pops" I can feel it compress the rear chassis just a tad on the coilovers and it definitely helps slow the heavy 48 a bunch. I like how it pulls down on the rear planting the slicks for sure. Hope that helps! Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!

    This is why I have no hood on my car.. these cars nowadays are so reliable, we only just look at logs and make tuneup changes, add fuel pull to the lanes. I look over my Engine (exterior) after every pass.

    One question and Im not being a smart ass but, Why didnt you pull the plugs when you noticed a slight miss???? Thats my go to when I would ever feel a miss. Did It burn the valves because of the header flange leak that happens very quick when the headers come lose.

    • @KevinWilsonSBC
      @KevinWilsonSBC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      doon714 thanks so much for your comments and I don't take it as a smart ass question! I did pull # 1 and #2 plugs after round 2 and the headers didn't get my attention or they were not as bad, but I had on some thick gloves due to the heat after the run and I had people all around me trying to talk and ask me questions. When I pulled the front two plugs they looked a tad lean, so I was convinced it was a lean miss, not a plug issue. Had I pulled #7 or #8, I am pretty sure I would have seen the header flange pulling away from the head. It doesn't help that the blower restraint belts come right across that area, but I just flat out went brain dead on this entire miss issue. I am not sure if I burned any valves but I will be doing a compression check for sure. Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!
