Probably a good idea if you have a camping site or a lodge somewhere in Wakanda or Kapedo and dont mind dropping 100K setup cost and charging customers more per night just coz you have FREE WIFI on your package.

Starlink, pay through your ass for second rate equipment that cannot be fixed when broken, and a broken experience that can only be slightly improved by spend thousands of dollars more!
playing online games depends on ping and jitter which is quite high as they have said so it wont be a pleasant experience untill they improve on this..dont buy this if u are a streamer or a online gamer🤝
Good stuff Dickens. I am impressed by the 'dumbed down' explanation that has simplified this whole starlink story 😂 You truly have come a long way from way back tukiwa EBL KTL. I am proud of you 👊🏽
Rickdeeeeeees! Long time man! Hahaa you made me love tech during those days, too bad I didnt pursue it in school... But I remember the Nokia N95 etc... Good old days! Hope youre keeping well though, Thanks!
you haven't mentioned one thing when it's windy or it's raining the internet speed will be so poor that you can't watch 144p videos I am using wired internet and its 89mbps and I pay 800ksh my upload speed is more than 20mbps I can upload 20GB for just 6 to 8hrs but Starlink will take 3 to 4days
Correction 200MBPS is good for game downloads where modern games are like 50 GB plus, but actually playing online games relies on LATENCY (how long does information take to get to the service and back to you) REALTIME COMMUNICATION DEPENDS ON THIS AS WELL ,SO if star link latency is just too high then it's not a good pick for online gamers like myself
Is starlnk preferable when it comes to Internet service providers.... Like can it be advisable to be used to provide WiFi to tenants... What's your take on that?
Their terms of service dont allow reselling your connection, but I doubt you can be blocked from sharing your wifi password for example, only that speeds will reduce the more people use it.
I saw a mzungu techie youtuber from central kenya review it. it wasnt all that. unless you live in a very remote part of the country, stick to 5g. its faster, more reliable and cheaper. but if you are stationed in mandera, its alright
That is a great idea, but first you have to make sure that, they have built a bas station near you rural area. What I mean is that, it's not like you're directly getting a one to one connection with the satellite. By my knowledge they have to have built a ground base station to receive the data and send that same data to the base station so that it can read your data and resend it back to you. So you have to do some research before purchasing it.
I was happy for this but now NOT happy after going through the comments, excellent download speeds yes, mobility is a PLUS but PING is equally important for me since I do online gaming. Would still be great for my home in shags though. Another Point I was wondering was can we resell the Internet??
It's good but not as good as Fiber Optic internet, for me they have come a little bit to late in my opinion...might as well stick to the the faster option.
Pardon the late reply. In other markets they impose a speed throttle down (not a data amount cap) when the network is congested, not yet heard about that in Kenya.
Buda your videos are exceptionally informative .....made this concept easy to understand....keep up the good work..how's the practice after graduation?
You missed out the ground station in your drawing. Starlink does need a ground station to operate, but the signal can bounce around between satellites before it has to pass through a ground station. Currently only 2 in Africa in Nigeria.
main reason our kenyan brothers are way ahead of us in terms of tech .. i have been trying to bring starlink to my country but guy! the bureaucracy cheeii!!

The simple explanation that we all need to learn. Thanks for this.

Intelligent observation. Starlink favours well-off businesses and homes in rural homes.

Thats good for you... You wouldn't need starlink, but there are people who will. True, weather is a factor for starlink.
Which one are you using?
You've got no business getting this thing if you live in urban areas served by other ISPs considering initial cost and upload speeds.
True.

True. Most testers have reported pings of around 50ms, which is not too bad for gaming, though not perfect.
@@Dkens in africa 50mbps is too good
@@Dkens 50ms is not perfect but it is great, i usually get 70-90ms🥲😂

let me use fiber ..this thing is damn expensive.. fiber is only 5k installation and 2k monthly
Sure if you can access fiber, its way cheaper to get
I have been waiting for this video so much. Great one as always

Not sure
this will benefit my Rugby team in Rusinga Island
yeah that's a good use case
Am sure those who owns iPhone 13,14,15 pros can buy Starlink whenever they feel like. Any let me keep quiet with my 6mpbs at ksh1,500.

Great and quality tech updates as always. 🎉

Check on terms of service since that would mean you will push more traffic

the beauty is, i can go cyclink deep into no mans land with my gps system only with no need for the phone

Reselling is against their terms of service... though Im sure some Kenyans will do that lol
Well explained. Does FSK mean something to you? If so,💪.
Haha thanks! Most definitely... I was there... and I guess you too.
It's my first time watching your videos ..
You deserve over 100k subscribers
Thanks! Will get there someday!
Correction: we don’t usually use Satellites for internet. We use deep sea Fibre cables.
True, I was just giving an example of conventional satellites, didn't mean that that is what we mainly use.
Thank you. I have understood it better and will undoubtedly get it
Great! Hope you enjoy it.
100k and after I will continue paying 6,000 per month and you say is not expensive
I saw a mzungu techie youtuber from central kenya review it. it wasnt all that. unless you live in a very remote part of the country, stick to 5g. its faster, more reliable and cheaper. but if you are stationed in mandera, its alright
True, not unless you consume so much data, at which point 5g becomes unviable.
260 mbbs can I share it with my neighbour if I have a cable to distribute it am living in bungalows that are in one compound
You possibly can
Great explanation. Tuambieko juu ya WorldCoin kabla tuuze macho bwana!! 😅

Airtel 5G still better and cheaper
Sure, if you are actually covered, and dont need too much data
And currently twitter new name is X
Sure.
Starlink = Dstv for bundles. Awesome presentation
Nice summary. Thanks!
is it just me or the Twitter image looks more like a satellite than the satellite drawing itself. anyway, great video.
Thanks, lol, I know!
What a premium video. Thanks for the information!

How much is 100000 Kenya money in USD
About 700 usd
am interested in Starlink for my rural home, currently paying safcom 4k for 1mbs via their 4g routers. there is no comparison there
That will be a very suitable use case. Otherwise hope you've been good doc!

Their TOS doesn't allow reselling, not unless you just share your internet somehow. Otherwise reported pings range from 20 to 100ms... Not too bad.
I think starlink is also cheaper in the long run
Possibly...
Hey man, great video. One thing I want to know is if it'll be affected by rain like DSTv.

Fiber is better for most uses, especially if you can access it.
Can't believe TH-cam recommended your channel today I wish this algorithm did this earlier such great content from Kenya
Glad you enjoy it!
Curious.
Is there a FUP on starlink? Any capping on data? Like 200gb per month ama these guys are unlimited FR FR?

Not sure, but we'll find out if they'll include an international service. Other places like US customers have that.

I here the main problem with starlink is the set up cost
How much is it
Yeah the initial cost is quite high. But once you buy it you dont have to pay anyone to set it up for you.
How can i contact starlink office in kenya
They don't have an office, but have an appointed sales agent... Just google
Beside the symmetrical download and upload speeds, You haven't mentioned the 'latency'. Very important.
