Like not everyone is planning to street race and spend lots of time in traffic, it would just be painful that have that much power available but never able to use it. I really don't get how the V8 is the "authentic" experience. The Mustang is not supposed to be, and was not when it was born, a performance car. The Mustang is a pony car, NOT a muscle car. It's a sporty, affordable car for young drivers. That was the MO with the Mustang.
The first Mustang had the Thriftpower I6, which is a very fitting name like the Ecoboost I4. It's an economical engine for an economical sporty car. The fourth and fifth generations were the only ones to only have a V6 and V8, every other one had an economical engine choice.
The EcoBoost is all 99% of people need. It's a quick, torquey, sporty car that is more than enough for city and suburban streets, which is what all but a handful of people use it for. It's fun but practical enough for everyday. That's the whole point of a pony car.

    • @michaelmcdonald9847

The V8 is the most authentic experience because what are the Mustangs of history that everyone remembers? The V8 ones. Sure it has always been a pony car. That’s fine. Get a turbo 4 or v6 or inline 6 one. Those are not bad vehicles. But, the V8 is just so such a melodic and mesmerizing experience. Mustangs that have less than a V8 are like popular pop music on the radio: perfectly easy to enjoy, but not something that people actively go out of their way to seek out. Meanwhile a V8 is Hendrix or Zeppelin. The gold standard. Take it from me: I spend an ecoboost but now I own a V8. An ecoboost is plenty fun and light on its feet, but so is a Honda Civic SI and many other vehicles. The V8 the is available in the Mustang makes it a total standout product.

I guess this guy hasn't seen the new 2025 Mustang GTD. I bought a base 2024 mustang gt 5.0, 6 speed manual, with active exhaust. 486 HP. That's decent right out. I plan on adding my own take of the GTD at a fraction of those cost. My first edition is a Whipple supercharger and slight body changes. Mustangs can be so much more than the ecoboost "pony" car

What you said rings true except for the part about I don;t get it. If you're an A to B guy say so. Can;t compare when mustang was new to today. completely different mindset from then to now. back then 150hp was still quick. 200hp was nutty. 300hp was insane. By todays standards 150hp (300) is quick, 200hp (450) is nutty and 300hp (650+) is insane. gotta take mindset into account. a 500hp car back then was like a 1500hp bugatti is now. 300hp is the new 120-150hp. as it should be. V8 sound is an american thing all the way around. Ive had 4s 6s n 8s. sound wise 8 every time no matter how much gas money it costs. V6? decent sound kinda sounds like old trucks. 4 cylinder sound? It's an eggbeater at best dude. If you don;t get it thats fine that means you're a "if it gets me from point A to point B" kinda guy. cool I can appreciate that.

    • @jorleejack
      @jorleejack 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@weskirkland5850 “300hp is the new 120-150hp.”
Yeah, I’m not saying it isn’t. The Thriftpower I6 Mustang had 101hp. The EcoBoost I4 is 315hp. The Mustang was designed as an economical but relatively sporty car.
If 300hp is the new 120-150hp, then the 315hp EcoBoost is better than the 101hp Thriftpower while still holding up the economical design of the pony car. The Mustang wasn’t 200hp then so it doesn’t need to be 450hp now. That’s from your own comparison.

That is actually one of the "beefiest" sounding 4 pots I've heard. I frankly think the 2.3 Eco Boost engine is an amazing power plant. And indeed eminently tunable. You can get a hell of a lot of power out of that engine. And at 315 hp. and 350 lbft. of torque it makes more power and torque than a naturally aspirated Ford 302 V8. And will get you over 30 mpg. on the highway. Carrol Shelby himself said you cant really use more than 300 hp. in the street. Not and keep your license. If I was buying a Mustang I'd buy the Eco Boost hands down.

I've always said something similar to my friends who mock me for buying the Ecoboost: "The Ecoboost lets you drive almost as fast as the GT, but WAY quieter, so you're not picking up on cops from blocks away lol. And on top of that, who are you buying all that GT speed for? The ecoboost is faster than 90-95% of the cars on the roads, that's all you'll really notice.

I got the V8 for the stick. I considered the Ecoboost, but then thought that I really missed stick shift rather than the A-10 (the Warthog, I call it- after the military plane) and I love a naturally aspirated car rather than having the tricks (turbo). Otherwise, I think it's a solid purchase for those who go down the 4-cyl road.

My 1999 Cobra has the best V8 engine of that era (32 valve DOHC). It is rated at 320 HP. Today a 4 cylinder produces 315 HP. What would make a V8 vs. Ecoboost comparison more informative? How about showing the HP/Torque curves for each and showing the weights of the cars. How do the different engines perform. Looking at internet Dyno runs the V8 reaches max torque at about 3500 RPM and the Ecoboost about 2200 RPM. I drove an Ecoboost a few years ago and was impressed at how quickly it accelerated and continued to pull strongly as long as I kept the pedal down.

@@weskirkland5850it took me a while to notice your comment, but I wanted to let you know that your prediction about the future of automotive controls is incorrect. Giant touch screens that encompass all the controls we need to operate the vehicle are not new. They are not impressive, and they will not last. This form of one-dimensional, lazy engineering is not sexy, and it’s not safe. Auto makers will return to tactile, intuitive controls that are easy to operate while driving. I was invited because I had a S-197 II Phase 2 GT500 making 900hp in China when I was 16 10 years ago, and somehow the dealer caught wind of it because SVT specifically came down to tune it for me.

Now I know they wouldn't on a drag strip but I'm not really a racer, the most racing I do is hitting the gas at a light or flying up the on ramp. I think they felt the same because their 0-60 is pretty damn close and shooting up the on ramp foot down the only difference was sound but with that active exhaust on the eco i was pretty impressed with it.

Now to clear things up, I bought the car with high miles because my job was only a mile away. Unfortunately, I herniated 3 discs and had to basically leave my job. I currently doordash for a living (Im 20 and in college) and its a decent gig. I already put nearly 3500 miles on it in the past month and a half. Although I do have a power train warranty, do any of you think it might be worth selling the 2014 RT and getting into the 4 cyl mustang?? The fuel efficiency is crucial. I profit somehow with getting 14 mpg so I can not even imagine 22-30 mpg.

    • @jimjones-pz1tt

A lot of police cars are 5.7 Hemi Chargers. 107,000 miles shouldn't be a problem, especially with a power train warranty. . How much cash would you have to add to buy the Mustang? $10,000 will buy 2,857 gallons of gasoline at $3.50 a gallon. At 14MPG, that will take you 40,000 miles. If you spend an extra $10,000 to get into an Ecoboost and get 22MPG (you're not Door Dashing on the freeway and turbos usually get worse than estimated MPG in real life), you'll go an extra 8 miles on each gallon. The Charger burns 25 cents of gasoline to travel one mile at $3.50 / gallon, the Ecoobost burns 16 cents of gas to move one mile. You'll save 9 cents a mile in gasoline driving the Ecoboost. You would have to drive the Ecoboost 111,1111 miles to pay back the $10K it cost you to get into the Mustang. After that, you'd start saving on gasoline. Of course, I doubt you would only have to add ten grand to what you get for your charger. Do you have $10,000 laying around? If not, add the cost of a loan. Don't forget more expensive insurance for the new car. And, you'd be nuts too keep the Ecoboost for 111,1111 miles or more without a powertrain warranty, so add that. YOU'D HAVE TO BE CRAZY NOT KEEP THE CHARGER. Don't forget, it's a lot easier to get in and out of Charger. Hopefully you won't have any more back problems, but if you do you'll' sell the Mustang in a heartbeat and loose a bunch of money on it just to cap things off.
Buying a brand new car to save gas never makes sense.
