    Josh, it might be a good idea to do a "best setups under $500" as well. You'll need an amp and DAC for a lot of these, so it would be nice to see what a full system would be for under $500.

      Poly Reviews totally agree. you can get L300s for like $400 😝 (no energizer). may want to change the price point though.

    Thanks Josh for confirming what I ended up for my Endgame, the 660's. I picked this over the Sundara, Ananda, LCD2, and the Dan Clark for the same key point...Longevity, Realibility, Unbeatable Mid range and Vocals, and the best all-arounder.

  • @HOTSPEEDMike
    @HOTSPEEDMike 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    One thing to note for those who consider HD650 these are extremely mid-focused with in your face vocal presentation. That is no way a refference sound no matter how long they've been on the market. Thse are not universal type of headphone , more for a specific genres, vocal intimacy that type of deal. Not good for gaming, movies, not great at anything modern music with lots of electronic sounds. On top of that extremely amp dependent. There are much better options in this price range, for example Philips X2 has better bass, detail, huge soundstage and more natural balance. I'm really kinda bored of youtubers constantly pushing those mid-centric cans like there's nothing else on the market.

    • @al_kaloid
      @al_kaloid 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To each their own.. but yeah, I see where you are coming from. I tried all of them (apart from the drop releases, even though it's been a while since I tried them) and while the mids are really nice I just couldn't handle the claustrophobic soundstage, lack in attack and rather plain overall impression. While I agree that the Fidelio X2's have a fantastic almost three-dimensional soundstage, the bass is rather boomy and they lack overall resolution.. still a fun headphone (I own a pair, almost never wear them though since I have the K712 Pro and switch between them and the DT770 250 Ohm due to the lack of resolution). I'm looking forward to the Fidelio X3's just to give them a try..

    • @mangodsky2809
      @mangodsky2809 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The mids are certainly at the center of the HD650 with a warm tilt, but that is what they do. They are made to sound good without offending. They do vocals (and cello!) very well, but don't work that well with faster, complex tracks. I have a DT1990 for reference and they sound way more natural to me (except, of course, with voices, those take a little step back with the DT1990 but sound almost as good).

    • @HOTSPEEDMike
      @HOTSPEEDMike 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @al.kaloid Can you explain what resolution really is? After switching from 650, 58X, 599 to X2's I really don't feel like I'm listeing to less audiophile headphone. More like a better balanced, wider spacial experience with organic bass. If it's about detail retrieval they all are very similar in that regard, well maybe except senns feel bit more detailed in those elevated mids.

    • @HOTSPEEDMike
      @HOTSPEEDMike 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Mango D Sky Yeah, but that's really nothing special as most headphones on the market do the same thing at the fraction of the price starting from the cheapest earbuds to my 40$ sennheiser PX100-II, 15$ Koss KSC75 and many others. What makes 650 special in that department is lush unique vocal presentation and scalability with amps thanks to bigger impedence, but it comes at the cost of congested ball of sound and mediocore experience at anything other than vocals.

    One of the reasons that i watch your videos has been your occasional mention of reliability and quality control. I never hear other reviewers talk about these considerations, or- in fairness, i do not remember hearing about this from other reviewers. What materials are used to make a headphone would not necessarily get my attention, but its durability and reliability would be a consideration when vetting products, especially as they go up in price- but, really, generally. So, i appreciate this focus among all details you regularly you cover.

The one headphone I'd have considered for your top 5, kind of an opposite of the Argons, is the AKG + Drop AKG7XX. I had the K701 in 2006 when it was considered one of the top 3 flagships. The soundstage is outstanding. I've only heard better from the Voce and Shangri-La Jr, which makes it great for movies, which is why I use it in the living room. The 58X couldn't compete in that regard, and the clamping force was surprisingly tight, whereas the 7XX is lighter (235g vs 260) and more comfortable.

This is also assuming you have a proper DAC/amp to power it, but nevertheless a great headphone and very comfortable. Best used when looking for the actual sound rather than a colored one, but imo if the music you listen to has any merit, it should be "fun" enough.

      The Sundara has a brighter and lively sound compared to the darker sound of the HE4XX. In my personal listening experience, I will always choose the Sundara over the HE4XX. Just to give you an idea of how good the Sundara is, I would say that it is a low budget version of the HE1000SE. I own several thousand dollar headphones and will always keep the Sundara in my collection. The sound is just satisfying and great with perfect highs, a decent mid-range and punchy bass. It does everything better than the HE4XX and totally worth the $350 price tag.

    • @remedy8
      @remedy8 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Sundara has slightly better resolution and much bigger and well defined soundstage comparing to HE-4XX. It is also better in case of treble and bass response (midrange is quite similar). Build quality is incomparably better with the Sundaras, but they both handle very well in their own class, especially when it comes to cost/performance ratio.
      P.S. It doesn't mean, that HE-4XX are bad cans (they're definitely not!), but Sundaras are just significantly better ones ;)

Luxman front and end amplifier Kef reference boxes. Come from a large detached house with a living room of 7 by 11 meters with an adjoining kitchen of 7 by 4 meters. So he was able to experience the dynamics in the music (eg 9th sympony by Dvorak, Cello concerts by Hayden, Time by Pink Floyd) very well. Moved to apartment due to circumstances. Can't show the dynamics I would like here because the downstairs neighbor is complaining. I usually listen to music while I cook. Already seen what your revieuws are and could find my thing there. However, my question is: Are there wireless headphones that offer a high-end quality so that I can wear the headphones while cooking? What can a bluetooth connection handle?
    Thanks in advance for the effort.
