    Adam is back with the new Sennheiser IE 200 IEMs that have an accessible price tag and a neutral sound profile. With great results back from Labs, these should be an easy recommend, but can an included cable ruin it all?

    Hi there internet 👋 Thanks for the unboxing and review! We can help provide some additional clarity about the MMCX "lip": The recessed plug helps provide additional strain relief opposed to a flush surface mount. A good analogy is a mailbox post that is seated deep into the ground versus just a few inches into the ground; the deeper seating will offer more stability. For the IE 200, this will result in a longer lasting connection. Any MMCX cable that already had a narrower plug sheath will also fit (at or less than 4.8mm in diameter). There are now several 3rd party cables that fit it since we've launched the IE 300, 900 and 600 (which also share this connector and recessed plug). Hope this helps anyone doing some digging in the comments!

    I use the IE 600s and I have found that even with the lip I am able to use other MMCX cables just fine. I use a linsoul cable with a mic on it so I don’t have to always use a dedicated mic for gaming and it works fine. The one issue it does create is that for non sennheiser cables they dont have the extra grip of the lip to keep them in so when pulling the IEMs out of your ears you can accidentally disconnect the cable. Not the greatest thing in the world but it still works fine.

    according to other reviewers, closing the "dual tuning" vent and some third party tips will give significantly more bass. The gimmick really doesn't seem to work most of the time, as when you insert the IEM into your ears you'll be pushing down on the tips, closing the vent anyway. The vent is always leaking, even in the closed position, so closing it with some tape improves bass significantly, back to similar levels of the IE600.
    Sidenote: at 11:22, a boost at 1-2khz would sound more "intimate" or even "honky", as instruments sound like they're closer to you in the mix, which can actually be preferable for some. The "shout" region would more be at around 3-6khz, ironically where there's a small dip, so that's probably why you couldn't hear it.

    4:30 the 'feature' of the dual position, is that there is a small slit in the point where the tip sits on the IEM. That slit leaks the bass out. Depending on where you put the eartip, that slit is closed or not. That's how it is supposed to work. But the eartips supplied don't seal that slit very well, which causes a loss of bass that should not happen. But any normal eartip on and you'll notice it's more closer to the IE600.

    Let me warn you - the shape retaining wire in the ear hook broke on my IE 300 very easily (same build as IE200) and so ear hook wouldn't retain shape and what's worse - it put stress on the connector of the headphone as I wore it damaged, so one of my earpieces no longer work. The replacement cable costs insane amount of money and even tho connector is standard, the fitting is not as stated in the video. I loved my IE300 sound, but the build (yeah - the cable making noses infuriated me) is just a no-go. Wouldn't recommend.

    In 2017 I purchased a monitor from newegg. After three weeks of it working great I threw away the box. A couple of days later a blue line from top to bottom about 3 pixels wide appeared on the screen about a 1/3 of the way in from the left. Newegg refused to take the monitor back for the full refund without the original box. I told them I would buy a new one, return the bad monitor in the box from the new one and then get the refund. They refused and said the serial # on the box had to match the serial # of the monitor. The most they would do was a partial refund. That's completely on you tho, almost no company is going to give you a full refund without the box and some companies need the box to be in usable condition. This just sounds like you being petty over something you should haven't of done in the first place, almost everyone who buys a monitor keeps the box

    • @FormatException
      @FormatException ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Fallen_Family Yet I've never had this problem with Amazon. I've sent a number of products back without the original box and never had this issue. As stated I was even willing to buy a new monitor, get that box and ship it back in the new monitor box for the refund on the original monitor. It's absurd to require that I keep a large box around for months during the warranty period covered by them. I think it's reasonable to assume that after a few weeks the original box would have been thrown away. Do you keep large boxes like TVs and monitors around for weeks and weeks? What about smaller boxes for processors or motherboards? What about clamshells for RAM? How long should one keep around the original shells/boxes? Would I need the original boxes for those if they were defective? All I wanted was a monitor to replace the defective one they sold me and they wouldn't do that without more money. It was very poor customer service and I don't think I'm being petty when a retailer demonstrates poor customer service.

    That cable rant was a bit weird. Mmcx has a far, FAR shorter shelf life. They will wear our ane break much sooner than a 2 pin. I've also never found the rotation to help a good cable or hinder it.
    2 pin only comes in two styles. 0.75 and 0.78. They're interchangeable enough that you don't need to worry. An iem with .75 will EVENTUALLy be stretched by the thicken .78 pins, but that just means you will now need .78 cables. And the .75 is fairly uncommon in the first place nowadays. Then there's just the KZ/CCA/TRN style called qdc. Those are obviously visually very different, like mmcx.
    The only thing 2 pins have that is annoying is some are recessed, like the sennheiser mmcx. This makes them more secure, and most cables nowadays will have enough recess to fit, but mmcx cables need to specify their compatibility with sennheiser.
    So in reality, a 2 pin is just a 2 pin in almost every way. I have a bunch of 0.75 and 0.78 cables and as long as that recess fits, they all fit each other just fine. I never have a 2 pin dislodge unless it's a non recessed cable with a recessed iem. But I have had entire mmcx headphones die at the iem connection, because mmcx just has an atrocious duty cycle, and the connector was not designed for iems in the first place

    These are not for everyone. They are for critical listening. It's like reviewing studio monitors the same way you would an ordinary bookshelf speaker.

    • @n0xt
      @n0xt ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see the reason why you wouldn't review studio monitors the same way as an ordinary bookshelf speaker and the other way around.

    • @politicallyopinionated
      @politicallyopinionated ปีที่แล้ว

      @n0xt because these products serve different purposes. The only type of person that would buy monitors instead of bookshelf speaks for everyday listening is an audiophile that wants an uncolored listening experience and creator that works with audio and they need to hear the audio uncolored and flat. Studio monitors are typically more expensive and the don't sound as good as bookshelf speakers cause they are made to sound flat. I use monitors for audio work. You can get way better sounding speakers. And the review seemed more geared towards your everyday consumer.

    • @n0xt
      @n0xt ปีที่แล้ว

      @@politicallyopinionated The purpose is the same - good sound. After decades of research we know that speakers sound good when their on-axis frequency response measures flat in an anechoic chamber. And that's (generally) how studio monitors (and oftentimes "ordinary bookshelf speakers") are being designed to measure. Which doesn't mean that they sound flat.
      When you put anechoically flat speakers in a room their response will be tilted with boosted bass and tapered off treble. Speakers with flat in-room response would sound horrible.

    • @politicallyopinionated
      @politicallyopinionated ปีที่แล้ว

      @n0xt there is a huge difference between studio monitors and bookshelf speakers. One the price, like I already mentioned. 2 the frequency is often heavily colored in consumer grade speakers.. I've owned a production studio and have been producing and engineering for over 20 years. I only use consumer speaker for reference. If I used them in my studio to mix, it would come out sounding like trash because the added coloring would trick my ear into hearing exaggerated frequencies that are not in my mix no matter the axis of the speakers or the treatment to my room. Geez!

    • @politicallyopinionated
      @politicallyopinionated ปีที่แล้ว

      @n0xt and also, how would the room play a part for in the coloring of sound in headphone monitors or in ears for that matter?

There will be some cross pollination with hearing devices in the future where both companies can leverage expertise. That said, the hi-fi gear is developed by many of the bright minds that worked on some of your other favorite Sennheiser projects.

    So I just got these today, I was thinking HD599se in an item which would double as the sleeping kit.
    And my first thought is this one is totally different. The cable for me is okay, because they decided to put the same driver as the ie600 / ie900.
    Maybe it's a Sennheiser thing that I never get the impedance to make sense, like my KZ zx10 pro are easier to drive. The 599se is 50 ohm and the ie200 are 18 ohm. I am sorry it's a weird thing that with a dac that can drive 300 ohms sounds good full and the volume is realistic.
    If anyone asks me right now, I know that this one will become my favourite with time, it's flat af, and these remind me of the Apple wired earphone that came with two drivers inside it.. this one will take time to understand the taste when I go through my playlist.
    Definitely unique in this price bracket.. it's like once you get used to your studio monitors everything else starts being awkward..
    I will share more details with a long term review. Comfort is superb.
