- I've enhanced the broadcast recording of the 1983 Week 1 Colts at Patriots game. Even though my copy of the game had a low bitrate, it was still in pretty nice shape, with great color. I ran all the footage through Topaz to upscale, denoise, sharpen and double the framerate, then used Da Vinci Resolve to adjust contrast and color grading. You can see the original shots and post enhancement/color here --

Amazing job man
Those Patriots uniforms are so cool. Especially the helmet. Why on earth would they discard them. Sorely missed
Probably because for most of the previous 20 years before changing colors the Patriots were AWFUL. Like worst in the league awful. As a child of the late 70s and early 80s that white white helmet and red jersey is a losing combination. Yes they somehow lucked into appearing in a Super Bowl where they were destroyed, but otherwise Pat Patriot was a loser.
They changed the unis when Kraft bought the team. As is so common, new ownership/leadership wants to create their own brand. I grew up with the old red unis and liked them. Too bad the the Sullivan family were terrible owners. Good talent mid-late 70s was wasted. Got robbed in 76 playoff v Raiders.
@@kissherlips1 I remember that ...... I was in 6th grade at the time, and Sugar Bear Hamilton was flagged for roughing the passer on 3rd-and-17. It was an awful call, as at that time the rule stated that if the defender got a piece of the ball (and Hamilton did tip the ball with his hand), the quarterback was fair game to get hit ...... just like a punter is fair game to get hit if the receiving team gets a piece of a punted ball off of the punter's foot.
@@patrickcolon8809 I always thought the 76 Raiders Super Bowl title was a bit of a fraud and if the Patriots win their playoff game, as they should have, they probably win instead. Steelers were beat up and the Vikings were not as good as their previous SB teams.
@@kissherlips1Yes, the bogus roughing call that gifted the raiders the playoff win.
I worked with Russ Francis briefly several years ago (RIP big fella) and mentioned that I thought that ‘76 team could’ve won the sb that year and got robbed.
He said he thought the game was rigged and mentioned that Atkinson punched him above his face mask and broke his nose in that game - no flags.
Maybe the 2001 tuck rule game was poetic justice…
Former Raiders great Mark Van Eeghan in the backfield, Terrific player.
This beyond awesome! Thank you again for another great post! 1983 was a great year and for my Detroit Lions!
I remember seeing Eddie Murray miss a potential game-winning field goal in the final seconds of the 4th quarter, which would have put them in the NFC Championship game against the Redskins ...... imagine a Lions-Raiders Super Bowl that season, with Gary Danielson at quarterback ??? Eric Hipple was also there, just in case Danielson got injured and/or was ineffective.
The last opening day for the Baltimore Colts.... I remember it like yesterday
13 years later…
Dave. Thank you. Also, please please please please more 80s games!
I still have some more in the pipe. My cutoff is 1984
These were the kind of games the Patriots lost during this era !! Unbelievable choke job on this one !
The GREAT Don Criqui on PBP
My all time favorite. Charlie Jones #2
yes loved Criqui's work
Great vid enhanced is great clear. This was Blacked out in 1983. Opening day in Foxboro. 😢.
Big fan of your work and always look forward to your next post. Thanks
I've been to many games at the old Sullivan Stadium, and I do not miss those aluminum benches lol. Love and miss those old Pats uniforms! I got to meet Steve Grogan a few years ago at Gillette, nice guy. That short period of time when the Colts added gray to their uniforms, oof. Why they did that, I have no idea. Thanks for posting!
yeah, I saw that the grey pants. It looked like someone screwed up when they did laundry.
Still mad over how Indy didn’t just get our team but our championship and stats too
That anger is certainly warranted. I am in favor that teams that move if absolutely necessary should have to rebrand. Not sure that old windbag had the right or reason to move the Colts.
The Ravens got 2 rings. Let it go and enjoy what you have now.
I agree that the Colts should still be in Baltimore but the Ravens are one of the NFLs elite franchises with 2 championships despite ownership being tight fisted with money, But the Baltimore Colts should still exist.
Then-NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue in 1996 when the original Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore should have "righted a wrong" by forcing the Irsay family to give up the Colts name and history (giving them the first two picks in up to three drafts in addition to their own first round pick to do so) with Indy taking a new name (most likely The Racers with IndyCars on the helmets).
When the Colts were in Baltimore, and when the Patriots wore red
Man that red jersey and that helmet were awesome! The only uniform changes I agree with are: Bengals and Buccaneers
@@danielboom72 the Bengals had no choice but to change unis. They looked like the Browns
@@hbland EXACTLY
I was at that game with dad. Another one where the patriots pulled defeat out of the jaws of victory.
Wow. Looks awesome
Its strange 2 c the PATRIOTS wordmark above the end zones but I do miss the old logo
Don Criqui and Jim Turner with the call on NBC
What no one knew at the time would be the final season for the Colts as they were in Baltimore. Then-NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue should have in 1995-'96 IMO "righted a wrong" when the original Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore by doing "whatever it took" to make the Irsay family give up the Colts name with Indy taking a new name (most likely the Racers with IndyCars on the helmets).
Don criqui. Aka the greatest ever
RIP Johnnie Cooks
Is this the year the Colts introduced gray color inside the stripes? Very subtle change.
Anyone know why the Pats used to have their O linemen a couple steps behind their center? Not sure I saw any other teams doing that...
Always interesting to see that New England had the team name painted outside the endzone. Wonder why they did that.
Final season of Baltimore Colts before located to Indianapolis.
