Speaking of watches... Where did the idea that people should wear wristwatches on the hand they don't write with come from? I see the wristwatch on the wrong hand as a clue in mysteries all the time, but I never understood it because I wear my own "on the wrong hand."
Also, a random question... I heard that women's and men's shirts tend to have buttons on opposite sides from one another. Is this true, and if so, how did that come about?

if you use a watch on the hand your dominant with, the watch would get in the way when writing and would get beat up and hit more often as you use that hand more for more things. That’s what I herd when I asked my dad that same question.

But we had the advantage of not carrying that much, only 6 mags, two canteens of water, small First Aid kit, and maybe a knife, and somethings a gas mask. On top of that, we also had suspenders to help with the weight and when worn over a flak vest, you really didn't feel much weight. I tried to tell my friends who are Batman "fans" that kept complaining about how Batman wouldn't kill and has a strict no-kill policy that the first few issues did, in fact, have him kill his enemies akin to some radio mystery serials like The Shadow. Naturally, they'd all cry that anything I said as lies and that I wasn't " a fan" of the character. Shows what they know. Bob Kane practically gave Burton the go-ahead on the first Batman movie when it was being produced to release in 1989 - in a way, Tim Burton's 1989 Batman was *EXACTLY* how Bob Kane and Bill Finger originally portrayed the caped crusader to be thanks to Bob Kane's input. I find it funny that not many people knew about that tidbit even when it came out. Basically, it was VERY comic-book accurate to The Batman as a character when it originally debuted in 1939 contrary to how fans got to know him later on. The reason why Kane and Finger moved Batman away from his more murderous ways was due to the rise of the comics code authority that started "policing" how comics were presented back then.
His belt is deus ex machina of the highest order.

In the Adam West hero version of the utility belt it was wood blocks painted yellow with leather tops including a snap close, unless it had to be opened then those parts of the belt would be made custom and filmed as an insert shot

Clearly the bonus fact shows his planning skills are being underestimated, not overestimated. After all, he's either surviving what he himself says is the best way to kill him or made that file as a trick. Either way, this illustrates how good his planning is.

A great TIFU would be one on how birds are dinosaurs (basically), in that they are the descendents of the last dinosaurs that survived whichever extinction event it was that killed all non avian dinosaurs. They've compared genomes etc. and found that things like feathers weren't exclusive to avian (flying) dinosaurs. Fascinating discoveries being made all the time with genomic research.

Yes I agree Batman has carried all sorts of things in his utility belt, many unlikely and impractical..but it enables comic book writers to get him out of all sorts of equally impractical traps and situations...but thats just the fantasy of it all..early Batman shorts at the movies were of the cliff hanger type, and comics continued this, always saved by some gadget, prefixed Bat..ie Batsharkrepellent,Batantidote,Batcomputer etc..I found out something about this subject of Superhero clothing and acoutrement several years ago which I found interesting, and would like to share it here..Apparently all superheroes wear a similar costume,a one piece unitard, with trunks on outside, sturdy belt, and flat soled calf boots, maybe with addition of cape and mask..reason for this was that all comic strips were started in 1930s and writers were in same country and of same ethnic origins..this contributed to super heroes concept, costume, modus operandi etc..costumes were based upon wrestling costumes of that era, there were only two martial arts then, boxing and wrestling, the latter seen as the domain of the physically stronger male, hence its adoption by comic writers. Wrestlers today still wear a similar costume, trunks with crotch protector, broad belt for back support ,calf boots etc..some Mexican wrestlers are also masked..the unitard isnt worn much nowadays but in 1930s the were not into showing off so much flesh,..The utility belt bit came from a "Fashion show concept" in the 1920s wherein some avant garde fashion designer promoted a mens futurustic fashion concept, based on a tradesmans toolbelt..it never took off but comic book writer Bob Kane must have noticed it..In a similar way,Sylvia Anderson who was a fashion designer designed all those skin tight spacesuits for the TV series UFO in the 70s, It was her concept of the future of womens fashion..she was also keen on wigs apparently and that was why all the women on Moonbase wore purple wigs, described as "anti-static"... There is a scene in UFO where Lt.Ellis is wearing a silver catsuit type uniform and removes the keggings by unzipping and then attaches a skirt, this was Sylvias design concept, demonstrated on TV but for sale in her store at the time..

Batman's using a .45 pistol in early issues of Detective Comics and Batman comics was inspired by the Shadow; and his utility belt was inspired by a similar device used by Doc Savage (Detective Comics: 80 Years of Batman- The Deluxe Edition TPB by DC Comics.

I believe in one comic, he mentions having a contingency plan for every member of the JLA, and someone on the team then asks him about the one for him, in which he replies with "the justice league". Which in theory is meant that the whole team will likely be needed to take him down.
But glad to know there's more to his belt than what I've heard

How about the Bat Shield. It unfolds into a bat shaped two person shield, afterwards it's folded back up and tucked under Batman's or Robins cape never to be seen where it actually goes. I saw a Batman episode where Batman hands the Bat Shield over to Robin. He then folds it up and.stashes it under his cape.
Where it went is a mystery. They were in Commissioner Gordon's office in the scene.

When his friends asked about it later, Batman said that of course he had a plan to incapacitate himself: The Justice League.

What if Batman's intructions on how to kill himself are deliberately fake just in case someone else gets a hold of those dossiers, so that he would think he knows what he's doing and therefore would be easily defeated by the entirely not dead Batman. I'd personally make up something more absurd and hard to accomplish quickly, but still make it as believable as possible.
