Picked up an S5IIX myself recently and in general it's just a really enjoyable camera to use - for photos as well as video. There's a few oddities with it, such as its comparatively slow burst rate (ignoring the 30 FPS electronic shutter as it has some quirks/slow sensor readout), but it's a great camera. The image stabilisation with the 24-105 f/4 is ridiculous for video, but you can also use it to get some funky long-exposure photos handheld (and it's the best full-frame camera I've used for that). It even has a weirdly excellent in-camera monochrome profile, which was a surprise to me, considering how nice the colours are.

So Sony generally speaking has more convenience for one person shoot. For example, the multi-interface shoe where you reduce the number of cable for attaching audio accessories. If you frame with Catalyst Browse in mind, you may not need a gimbal.
Lumix however has the prime lenses same size, weight and filter thread (really good for switching lenses on a gimbal on the go), and yes I prefer the image from the Lumix. And one of the reason why I would choose Lumix as a Canadian living in Japan is that Sony menu are ONLY in japanese in Japan (on top of being 13% more expensive than buying in Canada).

Never thought I’d be shooting on lumix. But here we are.
I'm trying to decide between this, the fx30 and the more expensive fx3 for video travel content I create as well as various client work such as concert recaps and fast paced videos. Which one do you guys reccomend?
I own the fx3 this camera is great but sony eco system is damm expensive sony camera lack some features like :- open gate , external ssd record for me its not a big deal but if you do care then go for LUMIX S5iiX is bank for buck and future proof as well

I like the photo-video ratios you mentioned. 70/30, 50/50 etc. The only downside with the X is that it can be tricky to see the dials in lower light.

Had S5iiX since release, pairing it with the Blackmagic Video Assist to get 6K BRAW with autofocus, IBIS and the great V-Log profile in RAW has been outstanding. Legitimately cinema level images in terms of fidelity and detail + flexibility. Smaller files than 6k ProRes too as BRAW compression is great.
this is what I am battling with now. Have 6kpro and trying to justify lumix purchase

I bought the s5 ii so I could learn video. I plan to take a couple of classes at the local community college to learn video and be a better photographer
Have you compared this S5IIX to the X-S20 by Fujifilm?
How does it compare with your review for the FX30 vs the s5ii? That would be a great video to see if the S5iiX improved the s5ii so much it change your answer!

As a Canon user, I'm considering swapping to L mount. Canon glass is great, but it's expensive and at the end of the day not as important as you creative eye and skill with the equipment you have.

Sadly it does. Whenever I shoot FHD I just go into APSC mode to get that PDAF.

The option to upgrade an normal S5II for B-Raw is also nice.
From today (oct 7) we can probably say that the A9III is the ultimate hybrid-camera.. If we forget about the price.. :)
For foto. In same plastic body. With same buttons. With same 400 pic battery. With same overhead. With same crop mount of angle on matrix. yep Sonyboys?) And only around after 6-8 moth at 2024. For 6-7K. How about Red Komodo for this price? Or future S1H II X?
In the UK for the price of just one A9iii body I could get 2 x S5iiX bodies and a 14-28mm f4-5.6 macro, 24mm f1.8, 50mm f1.8, 85mm f1.8, Sigma 28-70 f2.8 and still have £500 left over.

Left E-mount to give s5ii a try. Was not impressed by the AF reliability in general for stills and Ibis performance under 24mm. That said, for video makers rigging out their systems for long form recording or commercial work, the s5iix with SSD recording is a no brainer and absolute bargain. Ended up returning to E-mount for its ecosystem and AF reliability.
The s5iix will get the AF from the new G9II which seems to be even better than sony.
@@daniellrodriguezs2308 You cant just "get" new AF systems on released cameras. it's both hardware (Sensor and processor) and Software. The current PDAF on L mount (s5ii/s5iix) cameras are a good 2 release cycles behind Sony and Canon in terms of speed and accuracy. Its ok but not great. AF is not that important for most film makers anyway.
Photos for me on lumix was very frustrating.

Like every camera, it depends on what your specific uses are, but this one is the best all rounder hybrid, in a full frame price range by far at this time.

you keep saying "LUMIX", but it is "Panasonic".. it is a Panasonic LUMIX family of cameras.. in the same way the Alpha series are from Sony.. please call them by the correct name, "Panasonic's LUMIX series"..
