Love the 18mm f/1.8. Felt like an extravagant purchase but it's just the right focal length for my office and having a ridiculous wide-angle prime is oddly fun for experimenting with wide-angle photography. Thinking of picking up the 100mm f/2.8 soon - I like an 85mm but the minimum focus distance is always a pain. The 20-60mm is one of my favourite lenses, as it's so much better than it seems like it would be. The variable aperture makes a lot of sense if you're doing general video, as f/3.5 gives just enough background blur for vlogging. Surprisingly good photo lens too.
My experience : Top 1 ( my latest lens) I bought a used 28-70 sigma 2.8 ( light compared the sigma art, so ideal on gimbal) for nearly half prize of a 24-70 sigma art 2.8, Im not a fan or a lover of zoom lens . And here during badminton event ( where I follow an olympic champion ) it has been a savior to make content around the court and with him for vlog. - Sigma art 50 1.4 (cheaper than L mount) I had it on my gh5 or my 6d mk2, but on my s5 with a ring adapter it deliver a beautiful images ( better than 50 1,8 from lumix. Just like my 35 1.4 sigma art. - 85 1.8 good af and really lightweight. Panasonic was known to have terrible AF before S5 II, but it overshadow the fact that panasonic got the very best IBIS in the market. So if you used fd lens on it such as canon fd 50mm 1.4 it delivers a great image. I also bought a cheap 200 f/4 and a 200 mm 2.8 fd and it was great for long shot even handheld, Im sad that I cant have this sweet S5 II mostly only for a good AF. s5 or others panasonic i had , damn if the light vary ( specially in event) focus was lost and you have to press so many time to make the camera to refocus and eventually loose again your subject. Whereas even on my older canon 6dmk2 af was great on those situations.
I had the S5IIX for awhile, but the rolling shutter is pretty bad. And in not taking about when doing silly TH-cam whip pan test. I’m talking about for hand held moving shots. It subtly makes the video nauseating. I do wish Panasonic would use sensors with a fast readout speed.
Faster readout, that’s what the MFT line with G9ii and the next GH is and will be still offered for. In many other aspects, including prices, the S5(X)ii with these small lenses are the biggest competitors to their MFT siblings. Unless you use both systems 😊
I want to amend my response, I incorrectly thought (don’t know why) it was going to be a 28-200 F4 but after looking it up it is variable to 7.1. Had the Canon 24-105 f 2.8 on my mind.
Coming from micro Four-Thirds, I can't really find telephoto zoom lenses so far. I still depend on micro Four-Thirds for telephoto and 135 Format for wide. The S5 Mk II is so good. Wish I also had the G9 Mk II.
since you know the camera so well maybe you are able to answer this: How can i set the camera that it DOES NOT LOCK THE EXPOSURE AUTOMATICALLY ( AEL LOCK ) when half pressing the shutter button ???? ... in other words how do you disable AEL lock while halfpressing the shutter ????

Zooms are big, expensive and nothing "special" maybe if sigma comes with a cheaper 70-180/200 lens or whatever. Copy the 35-150, dont care...
Thanks for the variable opinion! I think the Lumix era has just started, so let's give them some time to beat other brands. I personally hope so because I love Lumix cameras so much!
I don't know who are the people that are limited by l-mount lenses and who actually "needs" the hundreds of lenses that are on the e-mount. Most modern lenses goes on spectrum of image quality not character, so having hundreds of lenses on the same spectrum is pointless imho. For character lenses FD, MD, M42 is where it's at. And for quality spectrum Lumix lenses are exceptional. From optical construction to features it's right up there. Not to speak about breathing of most Sony lenses... it's like a bulldog in a sunny day after 10mile walk. I would say Sony feels like a default choice because when you start to research it's the most reviewed and most mentioned brand. I also was in a e-mount gang for a while until I understood that there is beautiful and magical world outside of the Sony-land :-)
As straight photography cameras go they're on par with any other brand sporting a Sony sensor. One thing to note for the Fuji people watching, once Lumix pull out a new camera, forget about getting new features via firmware updates. They can't be bothered.
They send you gear as a quid pro quo.... You give great review and you get gear to use... But hey, people are stupid, so they'll buy whatever you tell them.
This type of shilling for cameras is too much like arguing about Ford vs. Chevy trucks, while ignoring the hobby. As a long time photographer who worked on military newspapers, there was a reason for cameras and that was to get pictures for the publication. Newspaper, magazine photographers were the best, but most are gone. So why photography? How about exploring why photography beyond the cellphone. What do you do with the images? Post them online so someone can glimpse at the image for 1.5 seconds? Do you put them on the wall of your home or office? I can see where it is still exciting but dead at the same time. No matter what I use, documenting life is my main purpose and is mainly for family. I wish for the days for newspapers on everyone's driveway, racks, etc. I would love to see magazines make a comeback with photos from around the world. But they are gone. So, why photography? Is it just a means to add camera bodies and lenses to our collection? Do our photos mean anything? Who cares? Billions of photos of everything have been taken and available on the internet. So why add to that pile?
Created images are at the core of our society. My photos matter because they tell stories that are related to me, my interests, my intentionality. Photography matters for the historic record, for individuals looking to create lasting memories, for documenting the natural world, and the hobby itself is a platform for creative expression. The death of newspapers is because of predatory financial buyouts and cost-cutting making them pretty pathetic shells of themselves btw. They barely have reporters and most of the content is purchased from AP or whatever. Research the topic and you'll find it's not the decline of news is not due to a lack of viability or interest, but rather deliberate decisions by a few actors.
