fx30 wins it, marginal difference for lumix in sharpness and low light. fx 30 looks better and wayyy better usage in real life. + you would have to buy lumix full frame glass that is way more expensive and good luck selling that 2nd hand
"Good luck selling that 2nd hand" thats true. I have S5 and I cannot sell it but I decided not to sell it and use it for on table videos and I gotta say even tho I have both I love my S5 for more options in menu and capturing MOV files for example. I use FX30 for outdoor vlogging because of its better AF and smaller sexier form factor.
Completely arguable… the low light test was quite unfair on the Panasonic. In default settings the S5ii applies no noise reduction to the footage, which you can alter in the settings. Sony doesn’t allow you customise your noise reduction and applies it regardless. So the comparison is looking at completely raw footage vs denoised footage. Also he had the ISO at 3200, the second native iso setting on the FX30 is 2500, so he’s only gone 1 stop above it’s native ISO. The second iso on the S5ii is 4000, so having it set at 3200 is as high as you can go before setting at the second iso range, meaning the footage will be extremely noisey. A better test would have been to do the 2 cameras at their second iso setting and then maybe 1 at 6400. So the comparison is unfair, your looking at default denoised sony footage that is only 1 stop above a native ISO to default not denoised lumix footage which is like 6 settings above a native iso.
@@mostvisuals the fact you have to ask this question proves my point. I do videography and travel all the time and yet to meet anyone who shoots that system
Ironically S5 sells like hotcakes on the used market, I could only find 1 on the used market in my country, there used to be quite a lot of them, glass seems to go pretty quickly too.
run & gun camera , lumix S5 ii in every situation, best IS no need to carry gimble , evf for sunny day , 20-60mm best kit lens in terms of focal length, 6k video means future proof upto next 7 years , if somebody already use sony then fx30 will be the best choice but for newcomers like me no doubt Lumix S5 ii , value for money
Good review however you missed a few limitations of the fx30 which is why I returned the camera for the s5ii. First is the lack of shutter angle and the fact that the shutter speed setting is shared for photo and video which makes it an absolute pain to switch framerates or from photo to video on the fly. Second is the lack of focus throw control and change from exponential to linear focus on the fx30, if you happen to get a lens with no linear focus then you are stuck with it and it makes it very difficult to nail manual focus. Third has to do with video playback for reviewing shots, the s5ii now has canons touchscreen video playback style where you can drag your finger along a timeline to get to the right point in a long video, for the fx30 you have to mash the fast forward button like a vcr and it takes longer to get to your clip as you usually end up skipping over it. Another issue is the raw output which is cropped to micro 4/3 on the fx30 while it's full frame on the s5ii.
I can't imagine buying a camera because shutter angle tho... Also you can program the Sony I think, I haven't tried this yet, for a profile to use a frame rate and shutter setting. And the issue with exponential end linear lens, well since the Sony lineup is far more vast with lens options I guess that's not really an issue. And personally having been a shooter for like 20 years I don't recall ever depending on watching a video in my camera. I care more about the end product and the rolling shutter and moire in the Panasonic make it unusable for professional applications. Of course a lot of this is subjective so I'm just interjecting my own bias here :-)
@@VeganLinkedand it’s getting shutter angle in literally 3 months too. It’s just a firmware update. I honestly think that’s a sus reason to not like a Camera
I am loving my FX 30 (and no problem with lower light/higher ISO ....) - but - as your analysis correctly points out- both of these cameras are great. In fact every camera on the market currently can produce images/videos that even a few years ago would have been the envy of the highest end cinema cameras. The FX 30 specs are very close to the (original) Arri Mini Alexa - tons of movies and shows were and are still being shot on that camera (The Last of Us for example). Lighting/lenses/framing/post production is what sets images apart now- not the quality of a camera sensor.
I was hard in between the FX30, the XH2S, and the S5IIX as a beginner hybrid camera and ended up purchasing the Lumix due to the raw value of having an actual good lense with the lense kit with an INCLUDED 50mm prime lens for $2300!!! Times are hard out here and the value just can't be beat!
There’s no way the Sony fx30 is a better video camera.. the lumix shoots 6k internal . Apart from that it matches the fx30 on everything and does most things better for video shooters.. the scopes and things like shutter angle are cine camera features.Vlog is way better for colour grading imo. Full frame does make a difference that’s why the fx3 is double the price of the fx30. I think the original s5 is better than the fx30 . Put a manual cine lens on both and the original s5 would be the better video camera over the fx30. Just my opinion though. Great video 👍
Very fun video!😅 The S5II also has 2 REC buttons if you count the shutter button that also work as a REC button. Plus, i’m pretty sure you can assign a function button to REC as well if you need it.
The limix s5 has dual native iso in Vlog 640 & 4000, and you shot at the widest end of the first native iso 3200 which made the lumix s5 way more noisy.
Waveforms? Shutter angle? Dynamic range? Low light? Anamorphic support WITH ibis? I mean…I own the fx30 but it’s not really arguable. The s5ii IS the better camera for video AND photo.
In combat, the main advantage is weapons, so lumix guarantees us a surprise for the enemy, I really appreciate Sony and I would compare it with Sony Alpha a7 III, as for Sony FX30, this is a different camera specifically for video
S5II recording audio in 24 bit, FX30 in 16 bit. S5II have much better stabilization. S5II is full frame and is better to making photo. S5II have evf. S5II have 6k mode. Fx30 is lighter, lens are cheaper but how much lens we realy need? Two? Maybe three? In Poland we can buy S5II and Fx30 in the same price. I have problem with make final decision witch one is better for me, but objectively i think that S5II is better. Even if we don't talk about photography, but only video. Thanks for your job.
I feel like its a solid conclusion from you. I find s5ii much more suitable for value concious people where they're doing hybrid works. FX30 is a gateway into cinematography since its build for it. It would be way harder for me to choose between s5iix vs a7iv since both have same purposes, despite the price difference. Overall I enjoyed the video, thank you
The a74 is several years old though wouldn't a better comparison be with the ZVE 1? Although I haven't really looked at that camera enough to know if it has things like dual card slots and a fan
Have tried various ecosystems but thus far Lumix is the one which i think i am never going to switch. 39 real time luts. Lumix lab compatibility. Great Ibis when paired with 24-105 IS. Shutter angle. I think i am going to sell my zve1 Pretty soon😅
Do you use Davinci color managment for footage or just edit log directly? Without color management or corrective LUTs, log colors will look weird because the color space hasn't been corrected for. Once corrected, theoretically all log footage looks the same, the difference being dynamic range mainly.
Part of why I am in this video world is to learn and hopefully come up with my own color and visual expression. That is often overlooked in many reviews. What I am getting from the camera, is the main question to ask your self. With the FX30 you are getting Sony pro workflows on a budge. It's a great camera for that and for rigging. Is such a beautify journey to learn cinematography.
Yeah that's exactly what I'm learning and hoping to get out of my FX30. It's putting my big toe in the water toward becoming more cinematic with my skills. Like not having an EVF, well you can tether and EVF to it and that ends up being better... That's what you would do with a rig anyways. :-)
The thing I'm struggling with right now is getting away from my old run and gun self that makes the in body stabilization on the Panasonic more attractive. Instead with the Sony FX30 I want to be more concerned with image quality which requires planning and anticipating the shot more, in which case the more cinematic thing to do would be to use a gimbal. That Panasonic is very attractive and really making me question my FX30 that I can still return. But at the end of the day I keep going back to the FX30 because I'm afraid of potential problems with rolling shutter in the Panasonic and moire. Also while autofocus isn't really a cinematic thing to depend on, more and more cinematic shooters are depending on it and Sony is definitely a winner here. Especially considering the fact that the Panasonic gets even worse with autofocus when you use a filter to remove the moire.
What a great camera video to watch on Christmas Eve! Couldn't be better! Luv your sense of humor & imaginative artistic video reviews. Have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! 😎😎
This is my new fav. Channel. The way you create is really genius. I’m so close to grabbing the fx30, but the sd card prices are out of my budget. S5ii v60 will work great. Fx30 would need at least v90-CfE. Wish I could use the v60 for this 😢
Yeah if you're on a little budget you're not going to want to use codex that take up a lot of space so you'll be fine with less expensive SD cards. And you're going to want to back them up after a shoot right away which will ultimately end up on those SSD drives You're going to be accumulating
the s5ii has so much more to offer. especially with the new firmware update. i take that without a question. i watched over 100 videos of the s5ii and everyone showed another special thing this cam can do. you really need your time to dive into this world. also i love that you can make good photos with it.
Lol you are the first guy on youtube who said "Lumix is photo camera with video specs". Its a hybrid camera and when it comes to both photos and videos, it knocks fx30 out of the park. I guess its difficult for Sony users reviewing Lumix to accept how good it really is.
Thanks Kensei, I just watched a Gerald Undone video with Patrick Tomasso, they both said there favourite studio camera from a practical angle was the FX30, the lens they generally used with it for quick work was the Sony 10-20. There reasoning was the workable ibis was the best in the Sony lineup. They think this because it's a smaller sensor working in a larger mount. I need a second camera to my A7R5, so was looking at the ZVE1 or S9 maybe. But the FX30 maybe the one to go for.
The question becomes even harder with Sony A6700 available now, its a much smaller and compact body compared to S5II, smaller lenses which are cheaper, shoots 4k30 and 4k60 with no crop whereas S5II has crop in 4k60 mode its not ideal. S5II lenses are also very heavy, even small Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 is smallest full frame fast zoom lens but still twice as heavy as the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 for Sony and Fuji X mount APS-C. So its hard to say, for portability the Sony will win even the FX30 is lighter setup, but for hybrid work the A6700 is superior in price and size, the S5 II has superior image quality, the sensor has a far more analogue feel to it as well, it renders highlight much nicer than Sony cameras but really, most people do not care, FX30 can shoot wonderful video as well and content is far more important, Sony are easier machines to use while Panasonic is a very specialist tool, I own both and I much prefer Sony for its small size, you can pack entire body with multiple lenses and gimbal in one small photo bag, but for Panasonic I had to use briefcase with wheels on it to move around same amount of equipment.
I think you were subtly tilted towards the FX30, not elaborating on the advantages of the S5II as you do with the FX. That said, both are great cameras. Thanks for the review.
Great video, Kensei! I was back and forth between the FX30 and S5II the past few months when I finally pulled the trigger on an open-box deal for the S5II. Decided going full frame for my outdoor content would be the best especially with the variable lighting I have to deal with at times.
@@imisibamiro4906 I haven't tested it for that yet but it's my understanding this is more problematic with the Lumix and probably because it has more megapixels and sharper image. I think that's why the FX3 has less make a pixels also. I was editing a video yesterday I shot with my a6600 and I noticed moire but what was interesting is it only appeared on one monitor not the other.
No hate here. I started with canon camera but a long time sony fan and was using xperia phones. Sold my canon and invested on sony a6600. Best choice i did because i am using my old canon lens adapted to sony e mount and both of my a6600 and fx30 are sharing. The s5ii is promising since auto focus almost catches up with the sony. People will say this is a biased review but the camera compared is also unfair. Apsc vs full frame? Should have been full frame to full frame. Also they both have can do and can't do so don't hate on each other. It will boils down to what you are comfortable using with. If i started with panasonic before maybe i still shifted to sony for it's auto focus but if i started with panasonic now with that kind of auto focus maybe i will stay with panasonic.
Great video and I subscribed because the editing is great and I love the humor. Hey so I know there's a massive price difference between the FX3 And Lumix S5 mark 2 However they do seem comparable and it doesn't see anybody's comparing them because of that price difference. Main features that make me want to go lumix. "Even though I've been a Sony shooter for many years now". Is that open gate and black magic raw external recorded. Anyway, if you have the resources, time and want to compare the FX3 and Lumix S5 mark 2... Well I would certainly watch that video. Regardless probably be watching your videos from here on out anyway... I don't know.... Great stuff dude.
Very good comparison. But just two things : the S5II has wooble (corner vibration) only below 24mm, from 24mm the IBIS is fantastic, much better than Sony FX30. Also, while the S5II IBIS is really great in 4K, the performance decreases a lot in 6K, it's much more difficult to walk without getting big jumps when using this resolution. And finally, the S5II has more noise in Log, indeed, but Panasonic uses much less noise reduction than Sony in Log. However, it's more complicated with non-log profiles because the S5II uses now more chroma noise reduction than on the S5 mark I.
I've done a lot of testing of the FX30 and in SLOG3 this camera has minimal noise reduction. Comparable to the Lumix S5. The FX30 has a number of flaws with image processing, artifacts that still remain even with the Atomos Ninja V.
@@AlekseyMakeev good to know, I had the A7III and A7SIII, these cameras used a lot of noise reduction. Do you know if the FX30 uses a lot of noise reduction with non log profiles? The first S5 is great with these profiles, fine details are not altered.
Hey ! Great Vid ! But between the two camera, what’s the best for short film, filmaking with a little crew? I’ve got a A7Rii now and i want to upgrade to a more professional video camera…. I’ve got some many hesitation and i can’t arrive to take a decision (with my budget to, because if i move to an other cam like Lumix, i’ve to payed the new lens) If you can help me on that question ! Thanks ;)
Just imagine Sony cinema line with 6k (and internal raw if possible)... I think the ecosystem would crush almost any other brand. Thanks for the comparison!
Internal raw, you must not shoot a lot or do very large projects or archive for future use. Just having 4k 10-bit 422 is overwhelming enough space-wise
These are many points you missed, to be s5ii looks way better in Low light. You said s5ii has the lowest ISO 640 and Sony has 200, you are wrong 640 is in vlog while Sony slog is 640 I guess or 800. S5ii has good photo specs compare to fx30 as well . I own Sony but might switch to S5ii for the open gate feature only
Hey I got a question. I am deciding between Sony 18-105 F.4 (Aps-c) and the Sony 24-105 F.4 (FF) for the Sony FX30. Which one would you recommend me? I would appreciate your advice!
If you want to buy Full Frame in the future, the Sony 24-105 F/4 is worth a closer look. But if the FX30 is going to be an A-camera, the 18-105 G is better, as it has great stabilizer and tranfocator. The lens itself is cheaper and lighter.
Thank you for the replies but I have another question to you. Would you recommend the FX30 or the new ZV-E1 when it comes down to "unprofessional solo cinematic film making"? I am really torn apart on that topic and would love to know your thoughts on that. Also, I can't wait for the upcoming ZV-E1 video! :)
@@ryu.motion They complement each other. If you will record short scenes, you need UHD rather than DCI 4K, not confused by the flimsy body and has an old generation screen then E1 is probably the best choice for you. If they came out at the same time I would choose the E1 for art. The beauty of it is the second base ISO of 12800. If a lot of night scenes are intended, the camera is better suited because the working ISO on the FX30 ends in the 3200-6400 range. 12800 on the FX30 is just "the picture is garbage". However, at 2500-3200 ISO, the E1 will no longer have an advantage over the FX30. I would recommend to have both cameras or save up for the FX3. But FF optics will empty the wallet. It's not the camera that creates the beauty, it's you! With the proper wit, you can shoot with cheaper devices as well. And if I get a thousand subscribers on my channel, I will definitely test the ZV-E1. By the way, I tested the FX30 with the A7S2 (FF) and in terms of noise in 4K the cameras were 99% identical. The FX30 even has more detail. But this is in SLOG, where both cameras have minimal noise reduction.
The s5ii is a hybrid camera packed with video features. It is not mainly a photography camera at all. A very biased review. With much love, the guy with the toxic mindset x
MY OPINION. Sony menu is the worst of the worst and lumix has the best menu. Besides, you dont know which resolution can work with specific framerate. While on lumix everything is on the same pages. The Vlog is so much bettteerrr than the slog3. Slog3 exposure is always missed. You need to shoot 1 stop brighter, while Lumix always nail the exposure. The bigger the sensor the more light you can get, but it doesnt matter with today tech. So yes, sensor size is not that crucial anymore. Lumix s5 monitor is soo much brighter than fx3 monitor, i think it also the same in s5ii vs fx30 case. Yes, I do missed front record button and tally light, would love to exchange that with a viewfinder. The color of lumix is so so much nicer than sony. I used to shoot fx3 and S5 several times to tried. I choose s5 despite the worst autofocus and now I upgrade to s5iix, I am happy with it. Anyway, I am professional video shooter within 10 years of experience.
Hi , I am trying out a Lumix S5 that I borrowed a few days ago, , I would like to know what you think of the quality of the 20/70, which I saw you used and which is not expensive
S5 iix any day. I love my camera and iix I feel like there is no comparing them shooting 6k Apple pro res raw or 6k braw for this price. Also my s5 iix goes to 100 iso, sounds off for the s5 ii to stop at 640. Maybe mines is more cinema focused?
@@mica.motion Ok, educate me? The fact that I have now used all three commercially gives me experience to suggest its worthiness as a comparison. But please do enlighten me with your views from the sideline having never compared them all yourself.
One million question : what's the button "6" on the front of the FX30 camera please ? For sure the S5II build quality is very high, one step higher compare to the sony A7R4 !
The S5/S1/S1H/S5 II has more dynamic range and superior noise performance at high ISO's. FX30 may look cleaner sometimes as you cannot disable noise reduction at the second base ISO.
I had the FX3 and sold it for the S5iix. The FX30 is not even in the same league. If your a solo TH-camr, Sony is cool, and that’s now an industry of its on, but otherwise. 🤪 Open gate in real world client works reduces a lot of redundant 16:99:16 reshoots.
Why when we talk video, do you compare the FX30 with th S5ii, and not the S5iiX (If you want video all the way, than compare it with the right version at least)
maybe its just me but it seems most the reviews online seem slightly bias to Sony, which is fair if that's what you prefer, but apparently most reviewers I've seen say Sony beats every camera on the market. But Lumix is the only camera shooting 6K here and the video is uploaded in 4K and most people don't even have a 6K monitor, I don't. So, lets just think about that for a moment, of course both will look similar to an extent, but you may as well just shot and uploaded in 4K, from what I saw in this video the Lumix camera is cheaper, sharper, and has better color science and I don't care either way I have a Canon. I have worked with both, and can verify that Lumix can do 320 ISO
I think a better comparison would be the sony a7iv or a7v as those are hybrid cameras if im not mistaken. Very good review though as im looking into both
So heres the thing; despite all the spec comparisons the FX30 just looks more 'cinematic'. I have an S52 and it looks great, but I'm conflicted because there's a special character to those Sony images. S5 just looks a little more digital.
That's probably because of the higher megapixel count on the Lumix. That's why the cinematic lineup in the sonys have lower megapixel sensors I think. And I think this is why the Panasonic has issues with moire because it's too sharp. And then when you add a filter to reduce the issue suddenly focusing now falls apart on the Panasonic.
i appreciate your work on this thing. but you largely have little idea what you are talking about. it s really cute. but you really are the general user out there. i love it. and, no. the S5II s minimum ISO is 50. look it up. you have to manhandle those settings. THAT's the Cinema Camera. Not the soulless Sony. Sony will always win on tech, and the speed of it being implemented. But by the time the others reach it, they usually put some soul into it. i d love the FX3 for example. but it does not have adequate cinemateic support for that price tag. just a full frame 4k 120p pumping machine.
@@KenseiAkatsu what do u think abt the absence of continuous photos in fx30 during a run n gun situation where u also need to shoot some photos along with ur videos. And also have u faced any difficulty while shooting without a viewfinder? { 1.Below bright sunlight, 2. camera stability}
They are different tools for different people. FX30 is better if it suits your needs. S5II is better if it suits your needs. Don't think that just because it fits your needs better, it's a better camera overall for others too.
The sony fx30 is very tempting. but... Sony is annoyed that there is no image stabilizer like in the lumix, which I think is more difficult to fix with post-production than anything else, if you are shooting videos, the lumix s5iix is a safer weapon!!!
My first visit to your channel. You set it nicely off, but then jump to conclusion without either explaining it or showing the examples. I don't know much more now than when I started watching. Although your way of presentation is nice and dynamic, so try to address the hot issues next time more closely.
So, Lumix S5IIX would be even closer to FX30, perhaps better in some instances? I'm trying to get back into photography/videography, and i'm stuck between the Lumix S5IIX or FX30. Price on sony is crazy, but someone here just mentioned there is an issue of a full frame lens on lunix? Any suggestions?
@@chandu_yb7 i dont do filming man. But i have the 20mm, 35, 50 and the 85. They are phenomenal. If you want filming lenses, there are loads of sirui lenses that you can pair with a focus puller that would create an amazing rig for you
You can't physically do 6K in FX3. But in FX30 it can be changed by firmware, but a huge amount of noise on the sensor, which is now hidden by downscaling and visible at 120 frames per second, will float away.
Very incompetent comparison. Almost all big strong points of Panasonic are omitted or given as if it was minor thing. Between two of these cameras chose Sony FX30 ONLY if you need 4k60 and aspc lens selection of Sony. Several things: 1) Panasonic by default has almost none noise reduction on log footage, which can be customized. On Sony you cannot customize it. For most real professionals that thing alone is no go for FX30 2) Even in your footage you say that fx30 had more clear image with less noise but what I can see from compressed youtube it is totally oposite! 3) People already mentioned that you show comparison at 3200 ISO which is disadvantageous to Pana which has second base at 4000 and for sony it is only step above it second bas on 2500. Low light on Pana FF is substancially better than on apsc FX30 4) Always Sonyboys compare ibis on 20mm wide focal ranges, while Pana shines on 24mm and onward with NO ANY CROP. On 50mm you CAN WALK with pana accurately and have descent usable footage. On Sony it would be trash on any stabilization modes. If you combine Pana with Pana OIS lens it becomes even more gimbal like with natural motions, while Sony Just ignores lens OIS on Active mode. 5) 6k Open Gate is a big thing for Anamorphic support with good squeeze ratio, not Sony's gimmick 1.33x I myself love Sony cameras more, but as a man that had both I can definitely say that if intention is to really approach filming as cinematography, then S5 II beats way above fx30. S5 also would be more future proof in you career as a filmmaker. While Sony suits TH-cam thing more
Great review however something I didn’t see stated. Sony provides only firmware for bug fixes. Lumix not only fixed bugs in firmware. They also provide additional features. At times this can bring your old camera to life. If the Lumix community wants something added and it’s possible chances are it will get added as a new feature.
@@sdhute yeah I just did a quick Google search and it looked like back in November they mentioned or somebody mentioned they were going to be doing that. That would be great because I own so many cameras and I have a hard time selling them when I upgrade. So would be fun to pull those out and see what new things they can do
No, I'm using a6600's and it's mostly run and gun with those. I have three. I may sell them if you're interested. But, I'm not going to work hard trying to sell them because I do love them. I did buy the fx30 recently. I did a run and gun test with it last minute with no picture profile but I started off over exposed because I had OEV plus 2 for slog3 and was in a rush and didn't set it up for no picture profile. But because I shot it in 10 bit I still was able to bring it down decent in post and better than I would be able to with the a6600's. But, I shot it in 60fps (which I normally don't) and that 10 bit 422 with 4KS was huge and a lot harder for my processer and rendering took way longer, like 6 times longer for some reason I think: th-cam.com/video/FXKnhn5OVl4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=WlENyJH8LNhJGOwb So, personally, I'll probably shoot mostly with my a6600's unless I sell them. Because the a6600 are probably overkill even and I can easily cut 4K 8bit 420 with several cameras and other assets and color and transitions and keying, etc... and render fast at the highest bitrate and although the render may ultimately be 3 times less the bit rate it's still overkill. Also, because my channel is a passion project I do it all free and it's so much work and time I haven't spent time trying to color match and get more dynamic range. I could probably get more dynamic range out of my a6600's shooting in slog and definitely if I went out to an atomos. I have an atomos even and never have used it for high bitrate recording or more raw codecs. I've only used it for capturing presentations on a rare occasion. I've just never needed to do anything beyond lighting it if I can and exposing it properly, focusing, and white balancing, mic and roll. I have a hotshoe dual xlr for my a6600's too. I LOVE the fx30. It's absolutely better than the a6600's. Will it get a better picture in the end, totally depends... some of the videos on my channel could have used more dynamic range, maybe a wider shot at times. But, I needed my workflow to be easy, fast, be compact for travel, not use up too much space file storage so I can store a hundreds of hours of assets from multiple angles, look as good as possible for very low/no budget, and just work. I bought these a6600 over three years ago and have loved them ever since. I mostly got the fx30 to learn how to rig up a camera and get use to larger formats. This way there will be less of a learning curve if/when I get a full frame. At this rate though the market seems so unpredictable and my needs don't demand it I don't know when I'll get into full frame. I may weight until at least April to see and decide. Panasonic has been laying low for a while, but so has sony with a new version of their cameras that have been dominating the market at least for me. @@sdhute

What does that mean? Buying a full frame glass on lumix, aren't there like a bunch of them? And the resell value for Lumix i guess is not good...?

Bought two S5 II's for my channel. I considered the FX30 but the Lumix just gives you more.
Except for rolling shutter and moire making your end product look like a chump
Also there is Sigma fp and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k for 12-bit raw.
Good point!!
I agree!
But what about the rolling shutter and moire?
There’s no way the Sony fx30 is a better video camera.. the lumix shoots 6k internal . Apart from that it matches the fx30 on everything and does most things better for video shooters.. the scopes and things like shutter angle are cine camera features.Vlog is way better for colour grading imo.
Full frame does make a difference that’s why the fx3 is double the price of the fx30.
I think the original s5 is better than the fx30 . Put a manual cine lens on both and the original s5 would be the better video camera over the fx30. Just my opinion though. Great video 👍
I know man. This video was a sigh of relief for all Sony fangirls, coping and seething lol. Either way, Lumix wiped the floor with the sony
@tyronnezx yep
Very fun video!😅
The S5II also has 2 REC buttons if you count the shutter button that also work as a REC button. Plus, i’m pretty sure you can assign a function button to REC as well if you need it.
Thank you!!
The limix s5 has dual native iso in Vlog 640 & 4000, and you shot at the widest end of the first native iso 3200 which made the lumix s5 way more noisy.
Yeah that was a really weird part of this video I don't see how he or why he did that
typical sony fan boi ahah
S5ii easily. I do feel you went easier on the fx30
Take the FX30 in 4k and S5-II in 6k then crop in 50% on both in a 4k timeline,...BOOM!...you will see the S5-II 6k advantage immediately.
Waveforms? Shutter angle? Dynamic range? Low light? Anamorphic support WITH ibis? I mean…I own the fx30 but it’s not really arguable. The s5ii IS the better camera for video AND photo.
Why I'm going lumix is the frequent and important firmware updates, over time the feature gap is just getting even bigger!
In combat, the main advantage is weapons, so lumix guarantees us a surprise for the enemy, I really appreciate Sony and I would compare it with Sony Alpha a7 III, as for Sony FX30, this is a different camera specifically for video
Thank you for this review! I am definately leaning toward the s5ii or s5iix.
second auto focus test, the dynamic range in s5ii was phenomenal.
Thanks for your job.
what did you go with at the end?
I feel like its a solid conclusion from you. I find s5ii much more suitable for value concious people where they're doing hybrid works. FX30 is a gateway into cinematography since its build for it.
It would be way harder for me to choose between s5iix vs a7iv since both have same purposes, despite the price difference.
Overall I enjoyed the video, thank you
Thank you for watching!
That’s true!
A7IV vs S5II will be the great comparison video!!!
The a74 is several years old though wouldn't a better comparison be with the ZVE 1? Although I haven't really looked at that camera enough to know if it has things like dual card slots and a fan
7:00 you may have your own picture profiles on Lumix S series if the preinstalled not good also you may tweak them as you like
Have tried various ecosystems but thus far Lumix is the one which i think i am never going to switch. 39 real time luts. Lumix lab compatibility. Great Ibis when paired with 24-105 IS. Shutter angle. I think i am going to sell my zve1 Pretty soon😅
Coming from a sony fanboy, this video was fun to watch, considering almost all of your statements were biased towards the sony.
LOL
It really was.
A7 iv AND s5iix FOR ME
I think I maybe in love with #s5II log dynamic range and highlight rolloff.
Both cameras are incredible for the price. I'm just suprised at how close they are in performance! 😮
Yes they are!
Do you use Davinci color managment for footage or just edit log directly? Without color management or corrective LUTs, log colors will look weird because the color space hasn't been corrected for. Once corrected, theoretically all log footage looks the same, the difference being dynamic range mainly.
I color grade log directly
@@KenseiAkatsu you do you!
I think so !
FX30 is a great gateway to the cinematography!

Wish I could use the v60 for this 😢
you can use v60 on the fx3/30..just not on the highest settings and frankly you wont notice much difference if you are not heavily grading.
@@loudmotion5639 cool thx
Yeah if you're on a little budget you're not going to want to use codex that take up a lot of space so you'll be fine with less expensive SD cards. And you're going to want to back them up after a shoot right away which will ultimately end up on those SSD drives You're going to be accumulating
Definitely, if you're into photography and videography, s5ii.
the s5ii has so much more to offer. especially with the new firmware update. i take that without a question. i watched over 100 videos of the s5ii and everyone showed another special thing this cam can do. you really need your time to dive into this world. also i love that you can make good photos with it.
S5ii integrates with Dji lidar with no need for focus motor, also Lmount is now a Bmpcc standard. Sony is all alone.
Poor sony bros. they will goto a camp and sing koomaiya tonight to cope
Lol you are the first guy on youtube who said "Lumix is photo camera with video specs". Its a hybrid camera and when it comes to both photos and videos, it knocks fx30 out of the park. I guess its difficult for Sony users reviewing Lumix to accept how good it really is.
Just found your channel, what a great video, and your story telling in amazing 🤩 subbed 👍
Awesome! Thank you!
The a6700 has micro HDMI, suffers from over heating and only contains a single card slot. The Canon R7 would be a better alternative.
I think you were subtly tilted towards the FX30, not elaborating on the advantages of the S5II as you do with the FX.
That said, both are great cameras.
Thanks for the review.
I think so.
I’ve been shooting on Sony cameras for many years, so couldn’t help it lol

Are you having any problems with rolling shutter and moire yet or are you just doing consumer end productions and not noticing?
@@VeganLinkedso fx30 doesn't have moire?
Is that what you're saying?
On S5II you can change the noise reduction settings in the camera to have less noise is low light situations.
I think you could turn noise reduction off and on in the FX30. But that's probably something better to deal with in post maybe?
Thank you for the detailed information!!!!

Hey I got a question. I am deciding between Sony 18-105 F.4 (Aps-c) and the Sony 24-105 F.4 (FF) for the Sony FX30. Which one would you recommend me? I would appreciate your advice!
Basically I recommend you to use aps-c lenses for aps-c cameras!

The S5/S1/S1H/S5 II has more dynamic range and superior noise performance at high ISO's. FX30 may look cleaner sometimes as you cannot disable noise reduction at the second base ISO.
any hope for either getting a slow motion firmware update?...to 240 or 480?
I had the FX3 and sold it for the S5iix. The FX30 is not even in the same league. If your a solo TH-camr, Sony is cool, and that’s now an industry of its on, but otherwise. 🤪 Open gate in real world client works reduces a lot of redundant 16:9 9:16 reshoots.
Why when we talk video, do you compare the FX30 with th S5ii, and not the S5iiX (If you want video all the way, than compare it with the right version at least)
Good point!!!
maybe its just me but it seems most the reviews online seem slightly bias to Sony, which is fair if that's what you prefer, but apparently most reviewers I've seen say Sony beats every camera on the market.
Very good review though as im looking into both
What about the ZVE1 since that's newer like the Panasonic ?
This would be very different if you conpared the Fx3 to the S52.. the fx30 isnt full frame so.. i dont understand the conparison
FF and APSC
They are not that different
So heres the thing; despite all the spec comparisons the FX30 just looks more 'cinematic'. I have an S52 and it looks great, but I'm conflicted because there's a special character to those Sony images. S5 just looks a little more digital.
That's probably because of the higher megapixel count on the Lumix. That's why the cinematic lineup in the sonys have lower megapixel sensors I think. And I think this is why the Panasonic has issues with moire because it's too sharp. And then when you add a filter to reduce the issue suddenly focusing now falls apart on the Panasonic.
It's also so...based on....lens choice?? there's nothing digital about my s5iix with my canon fd 50 1.4 on it lmao
how is focus tho?@@AutumnHxze

but you largely have little idea what you are talking about. it s really cute.
but you really are the general user out there. i love it.
and, no. the S5II s minimum ISO is 50. look it up. you have to manhandle those settings.

Yes!!
I agree, Lumix has the ridiculously strong IS!!
Hello , Its that matter the lumix s5ii only at 640 iso ??
all I need is a low light camera which one is better? since the test was abit weird
S5ii is miles ahead for low light
great video thank you
My first visit to your channel.
I experience no issues with my S5ii or its lenses
@@tyronnezxhey can you suggest me best lence for lumix s5ii. For filming
@@chandu_yb7 i dont do filming man. But i have the 20mm, 35, 50 and the 85. They are phenomenal. If you want filming lenses, there are loads of sirui lenses that you can pair with a focus puller that would create an amazing rig for you
my man has an s5III
I had a fx30 and loved it but lets be real. The lumix s5ii wins in every way besides the 120 slow motion
No, the cam to compare is the a7 IV - which has no fan. The FX30 ist APS-C....
I think if Sony wanted to they could’ve put 6K in FX3/30.
You can't physically do 6K in FX3. But in FX30 it can be changed by firmware, but a huge amount of noise on the sensor, which is now hidden by downscaling and visible at 120 frames per second, will float away.
Sony A74 is the comparison not crop sensor FX30.
At 6;19. The stability of the s5ii... killed the fx30
8:50 gotta Shot at iso4000 to remove that noise
Very incompetent comparison. Almost all big strong points of Panasonic are omitted or given as if it was minor thing. Between two of these cameras chose Sony FX30 ONLY if you need 4k60 and aspc lens selection of Sony.
Several things:
1) Panasonic by default has almost none noise reduction on log footage, which can be customized. On Sony you cannot customize it. For most real professionals that thing alone is no go for FX30
2) Even in your footage you say that fx30 had more clear image with less noise but what I can see from compressed youtube it is totally oposite!
3) People already mentioned that you show comparison at 3200 ISO which is disadvantageous to Pana which has second base at 4000 and for sony it is only step above it second bas on 2500. Low light on Pana FF is substancially better than on apsc FX30
4) Always Sonyboys compare ibis on 20mm wide focal ranges, while Pana shines on 24mm and onward with NO ANY CROP. On 50mm you CAN WALK with pana accurately and have descent usable footage. On Sony it would be trash on any stabilization modes. If you combine Pana with Pana OIS lens it becomes even more gimbal like with natural motions, while Sony Just ignores lens OIS on Active mode.
5) 6k Open Gate is a big thing for Anamorphic support with good squeeze ratio, not Sony's gimmick 1.33x
I myself love Sony cameras more, but as a man that had both I can definitely say that if intention is to really approach filming as cinematography, then S5 II beats way above fx30. S5 also would be more future proof in you career as a filmmaker. While Sony suits TH-cam thing more
Dude is a Sony ultra casual. basically rigged this review to favour the sony. If dishonest had a face man...time to supekku his ass
That’s because the S5 X2 has no AA filter. So shaper image
Great review however something I didn’t see stated. Sony provides only firmware for bug fixes. Lumix not only fixed bugs in firmware. They also provide additional features. At times this can bring your old camera to life. If the Lumix community wants something added and it’s possible chances are it will get added as a new feature.
Actually this isn't true, at least according to Sony they are adding new features to older cameras via firmware updates
@@VeganLinked that would be awesome if they did.
@@sdhute yeah I just did a quick Google search and it looked like back in November they mentioned or somebody mentioned they were going to be doing that. That would be great because I own so many cameras and I have a hard time selling them when I upgrade. So would be fun to pull those out and see what new things they can do
@@VeganLinked watched a few of your videos are you using the fx30 for those of so do you recommend it?
No, I'm using a6600's and it's mostly run and gun with those. I have three. I may sell them if you're interested. But, I'm not going to work hard trying to sell them because I do love them. I did buy the fx30 recently. I did a run and gun test with it last minute with no picture profile but I started off over exposed because I had OEV plus 2 for slog3 and was in a rush and didn't set it up for no picture profile. But because I shot it in 10 bit I still was able to bring it down decent in post and better than I would be able to with the a6600's. But, I shot it in 60fps (which I normally don't) and that 10 bit 422 with 4KS was huge and a lot harder for my processer and rendering took way longer, like 6 times longer for some reason I think: th-cam.com/video/FXKnhn5OVl4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=WlENyJH8LNhJGOwb
So, personally, I'll probably shoot mostly with my a6600's unless I sell them.

Entertaining & informative. I luv it. Wish all reviews were like this. The other youtube camera reviewers out there should enroll in the Kensei Akatsu Super Reviewer Course, Cost: 1 Million Yen! 😎😎
