    Really good to know this tech. Guess I better not use a rouge cloth on plated metals.
    When I wash my jewelry with soap and water to remove skin oils and perspiration, I'll rinse really wet, pat dry on a cloth and then I'll use canned air to blow out any water still in those nooks and crannies that a cloth can't get to. Then I'll pat with the cloth again.

    I kept some chandelier earring components in a box and that box was inside a storage container, so I didn't think the environment could interact very much with them because they were basically covered up by other things that should be chemically non-reactive, especially inside their own box. I opened the box a few days ago to find that they were all tarnished and I didn't realize that plated things would tarnish like solid silver. I will definitely try this to see if they can be de-tarnished. BTW, the pieces I have a problem with turned purple and orange, so I can personally say it does happen like in the video.

    • @XENOJewelry
      @XENOJewelry 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm sure you've found your answer by now but to clean any real gold you don't need any fancy products, dishsoap works wonders and if you wanna buff out some scratches you'll need to bring it in to a local jeweller so he can polish it, that takes off a very thin layer of gold but it makes it look brand new again!
