  • One more disappointing false promise from Master Lock... This IMPROVED design does prevent shimming attacks, but contains the same old low tolerance 4-pin core that they's always had... So close, yet so far...

I have a Master Lock No. 5 here for which practically any piece of metal I can fit into the keyway and touch the pins with seems to act like the key. In fact, the best tool I have to get it open is probably a sawtooth key extractor, just because it's pointy and doesn't have much in the way of bumpy bits on it impeding its progress being inserted.

You know Bill, with that bitting, it just might give the tuna can a little trouble. Honestly, I think a sneeze would open that thing. I'd love to see the depths measured with a micrometer or caliper... from what I could tell in the video, cuts 1-3 looked identical, or damn near. Only the 4 cut looked different, maybe 2 depths shallower.
Since so many in the comments are wondering if it's an April Fools joke... all I can say is, I have a Master Lock on a chain and a zip tie that looks to be a mirror of that one - first cut is a 2, the rest are 4 - you can open it with the flat head screwdriver (which is just a flat strip of metal) of the junky multi-tool I rescued from the side of the road.

It is amazing that Master Lock isn't embarrassed by your videos. Obviously they don't care as long as they keep selling massive amounts of lock cheaply.
