In a battle where I am outnumbered by a bit, I'll keep a bow unit out front, then the other player usually charges. I'll run my yari though the archers, and engage the enemy force, but still have my archer's shooting arrows right into my own ashigaru troops, because why not? Sometimes I'll put Naginata Samurai, because their armor lets them shrug off the friendly arrows. Once things thin out, I send in the katanas, and crash with the cav.
Tim Binder yeah, but if you manage them well, you can flank perfectly... good vs loads of archers/horses and even swords (if you have the time) ofc, against legendary swordsmen, you will have to count some losses :P
i think i read this when i was younger. this described them as being a kind of "national guard", part-time as opposed to full time. it also describes them as having autonomy and answering a call to arms as opposed to a conscription. when i said "soldiers by trade" i should have been more specific. i meant that they werent unexperienced pitchfork wielders (like is depicted in previous total wars), they were treated and equipped as the rest of the world treated their regular soldiers.
theyre much more cost effective than samurai in the campaign. they can be similarly awesome in MP because of things like hold firm and leadership generals.
Wow, you did a great job of causing as many casualties as possible. Even though you couldn't win, you definitely made them pay dearly for that victory. Nice job!
i know. pretty much the entirety of my legendary playthrough consists of me and my friend using this. although i prefer to take the +6 attack over the +5 armour. i like to compound strengths AND weaknesses, and then try to strategise to play to the strengths and avoid the weaknesses, rather than trying to cover up weaknesses and making jack of all trade/well rounded units.
Always Attack and make bunch of naginata samurai. Then they are perfect soldier, good against cav, can take any infranty, have decent armor and moral. Even stronger with exp
@@TheDzudas nope thats a complete contradiction of what i said. watch my impossible battles series and show me where naginata samurai wouldve done much to make any good difference over what i had.
np. i built it. 600-700 pounds. i am about to start doing shogun 2 co-op campaigns using it, with friends. it will be overclocked like hell and in full 1080p, should look quite good.
that would be stand and fight. it is a generals ability that bolsters morale and combat effectiveness of units within a radius. basically your general gets off his horse and says "if you guys fuck up, i die. dont fuck up. i aint movin until theyre all dead."
about 700. researched and purchased all components individually then assembled them myself. i wanted something powerful but also at a very high performance:cost ratio. the i5-2500k and 6850, overclocked, are probably one of the sweetest spots possible, as you can see.
@ChuckN0rr1st its a DLC, the blood pack. although i wouldnt be surprised if it wasnt available in germany. there are ridiculous restrictions over there on depicting violence aganst humanoids in games.
Banzai increases ur units attack right? Btw i was wondering, in this situation would it have been better to counter charge the enemy with your samurai to get the charge bonus?
yeah it is pretty decent. i built it for total war. however, i am going to get a new one for rome 2, and may even test it out on shogun 2 beforehand. ive got a video with 40,000 men that lags, shogun 2. going to try and build a pc that can handle it. i dont think it is possible though.
good job volound. :) I once fought in FoTS, with 4 units of Imperial Infantry against 40 units of Katana Kachi. Lol, the battlefield was filled with piles of dung-like dead bodies.
oh, i will. have you seen the co-op legendary head to head playthrough of shogun 2 that im doing with a friend? gonna do the exact same thing for rtw2. will make some of these videos too, just extreme scenarios, like elephants charging at extremely dense blobs of peasants etc.
banzai increases speed and charge mostly, and maybe attack slightly, if at all. cant remember certainly. and i explained my decision to not charge, below, somewhere.
Wow. I dunno what settings you were playing on, but I had no idea you could actually get the 10,000+ troops Creative Assembly claimed you could get on-screen at one time and still have a playable FPS. Nice video; makes me stoked to get my new PC built.
my strategical prowess was irrelevant as i did not intend to do anything other than hold the line. i was making a video with the intention of uploading. and a kill death ratio of 10+ (what would be necessary to win), isnt possible with vanilla katana sam against vanilla yari ash blobbed together as 60 units.. under any circumstances. so no. what you said isnt right, it isnt even wrong.
of is a preposition, not a verb. katana are nearly the weakest weapon in the game to charge with (only naginata is worse), yari ashigaru have 2/3 charge bonus (nothing), the fight was going to be drawn out even if i didnt charge. ultimately it was a tradeoff between a few more initial kills and my lines being broken sooner, or neither. it was an obvious decision to any tactically aware player.
You could try a slightly different tactic. use 1 or 2 units of samurai to go around and charge from behind, kill the general. then hope that ashigaru's poor morale will get even lower and you never know.
there is no war cry. i dont have any naginata monks or heroes. and negative, the counter charge would have opened up my formation and the already devastated morale would have been hit harder by quicker casualties and flanking. so thats a complete NO to the counter charge.
the GPU isnt involved at all with the scale. the CPU is the bottleneck in 99% of cases involving large battles. i have a 6850, quite a bit less than a 680.
Yeah, you had actually done very well. I'm not much of a strategist, myself, I don't have the patience required to move each unit into this precise location and whatever, I just like to watch them fight. XD But yeah, I was actually thinking you might rout them.....till I saw the other wave closing in and all I could think was this quote I can't place. "Numbers don't win a battle.....but they sure as hell help."
an i5-2500k overclocked to 4.8ghz will be able to play games 5 years from now on max settings. dont get a 2500k though (last generation, sandy bridge), get an i5-3570k (this generation, ivy bridge). the radeon 6850 is a 2 year old middle end graphics card, and probably the most cost effective on the market.
no but i have subscribed and will check it out, shogun on legendary is well hard dont care what anyone says. im wondering what factions were going to be able to play? obviously Rome but would be good to be able to play as the Spartans or the Thracian's.
The Ancient city of Nara had more than a million people before 1000 AD. Obviously there were millions of people across Japan by the time of Sengoku Jidai.
Ashigaru were like Yeomen or Junkers. They were farmers and land owners for most of the time, but they were also listed as professional soldiers when war time came. In Feudal Japan, peasants had no right to carry arms.
Hi! I have a question: Do you use any graphics packs? Because your graphic looks very superior than mine. Do you only use the blood pack ? Thanks for your futur answers! And what a wonderful fight!
You're right about the soldier, but compared to a Samurai of that class they may has well have been peasants, they only won because of superior number that exhausted and overwhelmed the Samurai.
shogun 2 is extremely cpu heavy. to balance out a reasonable GPU you will need a very good cpu. this is assuming you use "huge" unit scale, like i do. the more men on the battlefield, the more AI processing. melee processing is especially high. 20,000 guys in a mass brawl really eats cpu. coh not so much.
I got an ASUS 560 ti GPU with an AMD Phenom II X4 925 CPU. I plan to bought the AMD FX 8150 black edition a couple days ago to replace my old CPU. Will I get smoother performance with this new CPU? Would it be a noticeable difference? Thanks.
On my shimazu etc I also take +6 attack, morale damage from quick kills IS preferable to armour. However, as oda, it allows me to make bow ashigaru that can hold their own against their samurai equivalents, and mainly, to make yari ashigaru that can hold their formation under any attack and allow me to yari wall even under fire. It just means they are even more hardy than before in spear wall allowing me to use pincer movements more effectively. Still increasing their strengths!
LMAO i can see how you could. if it is at all reassuring, it wasnt me, it was a friend of mine that i was in a skype call with. i didnt intend to upload this. he could have started choking/talking and this video wouldnt have made it to youtube.
The fight with one of the samurai's at 9:30 until his death at 10:28 it's absolutely amazing He got so many kills that is a true Samurai!
Respect for samurai from 9:25. We need more warriors like you.
R.I.P to the samurai 10:29 he died with honor
The one who cut down six men before he fell?
Yeah I agree
The one who cut down 30.
In almost every battle video for shogun, It's always the yair ashigaru that gets bullied lol.
haha so true, but they are just cannon fodder :D
yea lol
In a battle where I am outnumbered by a bit, I'll keep a bow unit out front, then the other player usually charges. yea massing yari ashigaru is the way to go. Just go Oda and get those Long yari and you can't lose lmfao
i think i read this when i was younger.

11:21 when you swich to tha lonel samurai ... he died fighting brave litle soldier
He died with honour.. He would be proud
theyre much more cost effective than samurai in the campaign.

the short term benefit of an increase in kills would be outdone by the long term penalty of having a broken line quicker.
np.
i built it. 600-700 pounds.
i am about to start doing shogun 2 co-op campaigns using it, with friends. it will be overclocked like hell and in full 1080p, should look quite good.
its a DLC. addressed in the first sentence of the description.
that would be stand and fight. it is a generals ability that bolsters morale and combat effectiveness of units within a radius.
basically your general gets off his horse and says "if you guys fuck up, i die. dont fuck up. i aint movin until theyre all dead."
theyre there on the channel page.
it would be SHAMEFUL DISPLAY to kill a samurai from the back and save dozens of fellow Yari Ashigaru. MUST... RESIST! X) cool vid
I LOVE THAT 1 BADASS AT LIKE 9:40 OR SOMETHING THATS HOLDING OFF AND KILLING LIKE 10 GUYS BY HIMSELF
understandable and no problem, if you have any other Qs, just ask.
about 700. researched and purchased all components individually then assembled them myself.
i wanted something powerful but also at a very high performance:cost ratio. the i5-2500k and 6850, overclocked, are probably one of the sweetest spots possible, as you can see.

youtube doesnt permit links.
radeon 6850 and i5-2500k. both are overclocked substantially and have really good cooling etc.
@ChuckN0rr1st its a DLC, the blood pack.
although i wouldnt be surprised if it wasnt available in germany. there are ridiculous restrictions over there on depicting violence aganst humanoids in games.
SHAMEFUL DISPLAY!!!
no its samfur dispray
True
Um no it isnt
the blood and gore is DLC,
i dont have any mods. ive been too content with vanilla shogun 2.
its all on the description of my channel page.
Banzai increases ur units attack right? Btw i was wondering, in this situation would it have been better to counter charge the enemy with your samurai to get the charge bonus?

the napkin religion is the one true religion because it says so right here on this napkin.
Yep this was epic as hell
good job volound. :)
I once fought in FoTS, with 4 units of Imperial Infantry against 40 units of Katana Kachi. Lol, the battlefield was filled with piles of dung-like dead bodies.
oh, i will.

it was called "arcade mode" in previous total war games, dont think it exists any more.
you really think a virgin samurai could beat a yari chadigaru
Wow. I dunno what settings you were playing on, but I had no idea you could actually get the 10,000+ troops Creative Assembly claimed you could get on-screen at one time and still have a playable FPS. Nice video; makes me stoked to get my new PC built.
Wow, this samurai from 9:29 to 10:30 gave an epic last stand ! Reminds me of Yoren from Game of Thrones ;-)
i am afraid that your affirmation of the negative hasnt quite managed to have me convinced.
thanks :)
i can make more. is there anything in particular you would like to see?
already explained in full. see channel page FAQ.
I now its 8 years late but can i ask you whats your PC specs? Your pc must be an absolute legend
Your PC is awesome!
Nice demonstration, I love doing things like this.
around 700. detail is on my channel page
channel page description.
my strategical prowess was irrelevant as i did not intend to do anything other than hold the line. i was making a video with the intention of uploading.

refer to channel page FAQ. i get this question many times every day.
That was fun to watch, thanks.
of is a preposition, not a verb.

your troops rout even easier during sieges, if you are attacking.
You could try a slightly different tactic. use 1 or 2 units of samurai to go around and charge from behind, kill the general. then hope that ashigaru's poor morale will get even lower and you never know.
Those duels are truly epic!
there is no war cry. i dont have any naginata monks or heroes.
and negative, the counter charge would have opened up my formation and the already devastated morale would have been hit harder by quicker casualties and flanking. so thats a complete NO to the counter charge.
@poppa108 i bought all the components myself and put them together, cost me about 600-700 in total.
that was one hell of a battle... i think they lost like half of the their army just trying to take out 1000..
9:30 we need more soldiers like you son
Really like the look of all the games but which one should i get?
Empire?
Shogun 2?
Napoleon?
poor yari ashigura always killed on youtube :)
Get them all, and Rome 2 when it comes out.
the GPU isnt involved at all with the scale. the CPU is the bottleneck in 99% of cases involving large battles.
i have a 6850, quite a bit less than a 680.
11:42 rest in peace samurai you fought with honnor
at around 3:50 I was like holy sh*t thats alot of enemy banners. If I was really there I would of been getting extremely nervous lol
ive been asked this thousands of times. i put it all in the FAQ of the channel page.
ZEES EEZ AHH BLAUK DEEEH!!!!
Yeah, you had actually done very well. I'm not much of a strategist, myself, I don't have the patience required to move each unit into this precise location and whatever, I just like to watch them fight. I know this is ten years late, but that quote's from the first Narnia film before the big battle starts! :D
This one gave me anxiety
they obviously had many generals -_-
generals have multiple hit points. the odds that the general would have died before the unit fled is low.
looks like i have to reinstall shogun2
havent played it in a while but looks great :P
btw. is the bloodthing a mod or is my german version just cut?
In games like company of heroes and shogun 2 does a better processor basically mean smoother battles and smoother fighting also larger troops ?.
an i5-2500k overclocked to 4.8ghz will be able to play games 5 years from now on max settings. dont get a 2500k though (last generation, sandy bridge), get an i5-3570k (this generation, ivy bridge).

please for the love of god, make a massive roman battle against the spartans in rtw2
Excuse me, NASA wants its computer back when you have finished...
soldier: Well at least im in the huge, undefeatable army!
The good thing is that you dont need to run it in slow motion, it already runs in slow motion :D
You have convinced me to buy this game haha
that isnt strategy. that is cartoon warfare.
ninja actually can be used to assassinate generals. they just dont climb up fucking trees.
the lag is because of the bottleneck. the bottleneck is the CPU.
Samurai dont die. They just get tired of kicking so much ass
Hi! I have a question: Do you use any graphics packs? Because your graphic looks very superior than mine. Do you only use the blood pack ?
Thanks for your futur answers! And what a wonderful fight!
+Véronique CHENY TILLY
He is probably just running the game on higher settings than you.
Your Computer is so awesome, man... How much did the parts cost in total?
the bottleneck is the CPU, not the GPU.
The samurais will die even more horribly if the computers know how to use the spear wall ability.
Can't wait for new Rome: Total War! :D
what are those like massive green balloon things on there backs and what are they for
You're right about the soldier, but compared to a Samurai of that class they may has well have been peasants, they only won because of superior number that exhausted and overwhelmed the Samurai.
@dunnetw i5-2500k at 4.7ghz, 8gb ram, 6850 oc'ed, 120gb ssd
quite happy with it. graphics card is the bottleneck and it isnt even that bad.
Impressive performance on a not expensive rig.

There's ashigaru at the back of the crowd that never even got near to the combat lol.

in rome 2 i did the same thing but with bezerkers vs egyptian infantry, and oh god was it a bloody mess
