    An era when Car Manufacturers offered Interior Colors, other than Gray and Black, with matching dashes, steering wheels, etc. Gorgeous car!

    I loved these when they were new, styling aged very well.
    When they were new I never understood why these werent wildy popular.
    This example is, well, let me just say, you are lucky and I am jealous.

      It was mostly because of Chrysler's poor financial shape at the time. Quality control was also an issue, and also GM had a two year head start on their hugely successful downsized big cars.

    Very nice example of Chrysler R body cars made from 1979-81. I still love the New Yorker C bodies from 75-78.

    This might be the most elegant car ecer made by man. Me and my dad were dedicated to buying a rust free classic car and this model happened to be the perfect find. Ours is a 79 new yorker 5th avenue edition, also with the 360 with a 2 barrel carb. Someday, I'd like to change it to a stock 4 barrel that was optional for it back in 79. Brings the hp to almost 200 which is very solid for a car that's actually pretty light for 70s cars.

    Like a Cadillac? Absolutely not! I've owned both from 1979 and the Chrysler was quite a bit better driving car. The seats were also more comfortable and it easily out-handled the Cadillac. It wasn't built to as high quality standards as the Cadillac but still very good for the day. The A/C was also superior in the Chrysler, Much colder and more effective faster and more adjustable controls. The 1980 Chrysler I also owned handled even better, it had the Open Road handling package.

      I heard good reviews and bad ones as well. My Father factory ordered a 1980 Fifth Avenue. It never fell apart on him. The only issues were starter motors; it seems once a year; a rebuilt starter was installed. Perhaps if he had a new starter installed, the problem would be gone!

    • @ayryz1
      @ayryz1 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@markross9781 My 1980 New Yorker had that same issue! It's starter also sounded like a "washtub full of marbles" as one car magazine stated in a review! After the second time, I replaced it with a new starter from a 1977 Cordoba and never had a n issue again.

      Yep, really. The later units were far better and more reliable than the first type and made the spark pugs last 50,000 miles with no issues. I've owned 6 Chryslers with "Lean Burn" and only the 1976 and early 1977 gave me any troubles. Those were replaced with later current factory units from the dealer and never gave any more issues.

      @@ayryz1I thought that early 80s Chrysler imperials had that system and it was very problematic. They recalled them and put carburetors on.

    • @martinliehs2513
      @martinliehs2513 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@antiangelofmusic You are confusing the "Electronic Spark Control" with "Electronic Fuel Injection". The EFI was exclusive to the Imperial, but apparently was so problematic that Chrysler offered a carburetor conversion kit as a remedy. As I understand it, that conversion involved replacing the entire fuel system (including the gas tank) and the instrument cluster.
