My dad only drove Chrysler products (Dodges and Plymouths) so I always had, and always will, have a special place in my heart for them (especially Chryslers and Imperials). This '78 New Yorker is essentially the Imperial Le Baron (Imperial front and rear ends, interior). Ohhhh...that interior! A living room on wheels! I am very happy for the new owner. I'm just sad that there are very few left out there, in good shape, for us poorer folk. And yes, I too prefer the fender skirt delete.

1978 was the last year for this generation of New Yorker. This styling was first badged as the New Yorker in 1976, the virtually identical car and styling in 1974-1975 was the Imperial. Someone is getting a magnificent automobile.
In the mid 1990s I had a triple green 1977 New Yorker which I used as a winter beater. A Chevy Corsica rear ended me at a traffic light. The Corsica was crushed. Barely a mark on the New Yorker! Loved that car!

That one looked like it just rolled out of the factory. Even back in the 70s the New Yorkers were kind of rare. An Imperial was one of those once a year kind of sightings. Chrysler had this anomaly with their A/C systems that they would sometimes freeze up and start spitting little pieces of ice at you out of the vents on a really hot day. I've seen that happen. But those Chryslers then had some of the coldest A/C you will ever find.
Glad this is going to a good owner and I'm sure he'll thoroughly enjoy it! Probably one of my top 3 favorite sedans from 1978. Good luck seeing this classic out on the road!

Yes, that is a gorgeous New Yorker, perfect. I do like it without the fender skirts. I didn't know you could order them without the skirts, I don't think I ever saw a 78 New Yorker without the skirts - Newport - yes - but not a New Yorker.
Some of these cars were bought by dealers who owned the franchise and kept these vehicles in storage. I remember a 1969 Charger for sale on ebay in 2008 and the owner of the dealer kept it mint in storage with 16 original miles.
This is way nicer, more stunning and a better color than the 500 mile dove grey NYB from New England that you ended up with. That car hadn't been properly stored while this one looks like it was in a vacuum-sealed wrapper for the past 40 years....
Let me guess, the new owner lives in California and likes to buy a few at a time. Answers on a post card Bill. He has an impeccable taste in cars, this one will look great among his Lincolns.
I'm guessing $31,200 to guarantee that he would have outbid highest bid on BAT without all the fuss of an auction. Competition Cars was probably hoping for high $20's. Can't blame the new owner.
