    I’m 70 years old and have been trying to bake bread for years, and they all have failed!!! Just wanted to thank you for your video because I’m eating a delicious slice of bread I made with my own hands !! 💕

      Is adding additional sugar needed for the flour

    • @comehomecottage
      @comehomecottage  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From what I know you can skip the flour. The sugar helps to feed the yeast so I’m not sure if skipping the additional sugar makes much of a difference, I’ve never tried it. There may be a difference in the rise, but overall I’m sure you will come out with a delicious loaf of bread. Would love to hear how it turns out without the added sugar! 😊

    Thanks for the one loaf recipe! Most recipes are for two or more loaves, so this is really helpful. To make measuring your flour easier, try using your red measuring cup set (dry ingredients} instead of the Pyrex (which is typicallly for liquid ingredients}. To get an accurate measurement, just fill your 1 cup with flour and use a knife or spatula to remove the excess/level it off before adding to other ingredients. ❤

    Thanks for this recipe -the bread looks very good. When you proof the yeast in water and sugar it doesn’t have to double in size - just get foamy on the top!

    You are so lucky to have a great neighbor. I am sure he enjoyed that. It is true about helpful neighbors back home. We just lost a really good neighbor before Christmas. He was always cleaning our gutters and helping us out. He collapsed in his back yard from a heart attack at 61 years old. We miss him so much. I just brought his wife and daughter a loaf of homemade bread. I never made just one loaf, but I think I will now. I enjoy doing it, and it keeps me busy to pass the time between tasks. Thanks for the recipe.😊

    I live in NS and this is so close to my Mothers' recipe being that the only difference she used margarine in the 1950s-60s. She made 8 to 10 loaves a week too like your Nan. I put all of your one loaf ingredients into my bread machine and it turned out wonderfully. The same taste and texture like I made it myself. Thank you for doing the work on the scaling down to that one loaf.

    ❤just wanted to thank you for this bread recipe. I grew up on as small farm with my grandparents. Over the years her bread recipe was lost or somehow changed by my aunt. This bread tastes like my Grams recipe and I finally found a bread that tastes like hers. She used bake 10 or twelve loafs at a time. I would watch her bake bread in her farm kitchen. Even the smell of this bread baking takes me back to more kind and thoughtful time. Best regards to you and your family and thanks again.

    Love you were able to scale this down for people. The first step is really called activating the yeast (yeast is a living organism that is dormant until activated by the water and sugar is the food for the yeast), then you allow dough to rise, then right before you bake ,(second rise) is the "Proof" stage or some call final rise.

    I usually bake my bread for 30 minutes and get a browner top. I think my stove is running hot at 350. Your loaf looks absolutely delicious! I use 11/2 cups of water with 3 cups of flour. Maybe we’re much drier here in Toronto, so I need more water. Love the addition of melted butter.

    Thank you for sharing an easy recipe for one loaf! One tip: if you watch Richard Bertinet on kneading you can use a lot less flour with a bench scraper and the slap and fold method. This way your bread will not be as heavy but light and airy. I have about 5 of them in different sizes. I am anxious to try this recipe on my kitchen aid.

    FYI, when measuring dry ingredients one ought to use the cups like the one you used to scoop out your flour. This is so you can level off the ingredient, whereas a wet ingredient needs the see-through measure to see that the ingred. is level at the measurement. Fortunately, bread making isn't as precise as say making a cake. Also, don't be so hard on yourself about where you stored your yeast. You live where it's pretty much cold year 'round. Most people live where it's cold 1/2 the time, so we do need to refrigerate --- in fact, I live in the tropics, so I m-u-s-t refrigerate, BUT my raising time is never as long! Thanks, I think I'll bake this o-n-e loaf in the toaster oven : ))

      I bake it at 350 for 40 minutes but I think my oven is a bit cool. Try yours at 30 minutes and assess it from there 😊 Happy baking!

      I use Robin Hood all purpose flour. I’m sure bread flour would make it better, but where I am it’s very expensive compared to all purpose.

      For two loaves try using 3 or 3 1/2 teaspoon of yeast rather than doubling it. Happy baking!

    I only knead one loaf for 5 minutes.
    Two or three loaves will .need 10 ,12 minutes of kneading.
    😮i let rise 30 min and shape and knead for bread pan.
    Start oven to preheat 30 min while bread rises 2nd time in pan.
    I bake 30 min at 400 fare heit
    Faster bake time when cooking dinner or for lunch.
    Dont be afraid to experiment.
    Divide bread to make hotdog buns or hamburger buns.
    Bake 20 minutes on baking sheet.

    Thank you for cutting this recipe down to one loaf. The only question I have is that in the 7-8 loaf recipe there is 51/2 cups warm water you add after you add the melted butter and yeast mixture to the flour. This water is missing from your 1 loaf recipe.

    • @comehomecottage
      @comehomecottage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good observation! I initially planned for that as well but soon realized it only needs the water from the yeast mixture and it turns out perfectly with just that. Happy baking!

    • @comehomecottage
      @comehomecottage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you can. I haven’t tested the double recipe for this, but I’d say instead of doubling the yeast just do 3 or 3 1/2 teaspoon.

    I’m sorry I had to ask what are your measurements for the flower? I am a blind person, and you said absolutely no measurements for the flower. You mentioned the sugar you mentioned the salt and that’s all you mentioned you didn’t mention anything else what in the world? I don’t like your recipe too much music. I do not understand why people who want to create Contant like yours have to put in music and other distracting noise in the middle of the recipes while they’re cooking. I’m having a hard time understanding your recipe. sorry, but could you maybe write a list down in comments here? I don’t care for the music and the distracting noise from this recipe like I state I am 100% blind and I am having a hard time following your directions because of the awful music and background sounds.

    • @elizabethhyland5188
      @elizabethhyland5188 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not blind and I can't stand the music in videos either. A lot of potential here but there is no method in the description.
      The most important tool for anyone new to bread making is to get a thermometer. You can kill the yeast if the water is too hot and it won't activate if it is too cool. When your bread is done you can take the internal temperature so you don't under or over bake. The package of yeast gives the temperature of the water needed to activate. If I guess I usually am wrong. I found an old Tuperwear plastic tool that works like a bench scrapers. It works great for picking up the dough off the couter and for lifting out of the bowl. I put very hot water in a cake pan on the bottom rack of my oven so the bread can proof.

    I noticed you are using a liquid measuring cup to measure out your flour. I was always taught that the glass is for liquids not a dry measure. Now saying that are the 2 cups in your recipe actually 2 cups or did you write the recipe using your glass measure. I just want to make sure I have all the correct measurements. Thanx for your Nans recipe.

    • @comehomecottage
      @comehomecottage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The recipe is for proper measuring cups but I do use the liquid ones! They were all I had when I started out and I find they give me a really nice loaf so I just keep with it 😊 Depending on the humidity, weather, etc I sometimes have to add flour while kneading but that’s no problem. Thanks for watching!
