Five years after you made this, it’s still the video that actually solves the tricky bits for nearly half a million of us: just where to put the hook into the “bottom” of the stitch.. Thank you!

Exactly man.. and the headache of having to count the chain starting that says " do it in multiple of so much + so much"

This is exactly why I found this video. Was gifted a blanket kit for Christmas and to start it said "chain 195" - I instantly felt dejected as I'm used to the feedback of granny square blankets 😊 This foundation start will definitely improve my enjoyment of this new kit as I'm not overly fond of chain start blankets so never try them.

Thank you. Finally, a video with no added fluff, a straight to the point tutorial. Now, I have a healthy foundation chain sitting in my lap.

This video is FANTASTIC! The way you explained the bottom base loop to stand ‘tall’ was the biggest tip, as my work was curving. THANK YOU!!!

Thank you for making foundation chains seem simple. I have been so confused by them and have suffered with chains being too tight. Because of you I am finally able to do half double and double foundation chains.

I can’t even begin to thank you enough. I’ve watched so many other videos, and was doing it right but without truly being able to see and fully understand. My stitches were subpar and I am one of those people who wont move on until I reasonably perfect the technique and approve the results as good. Your use of larger yarn/hook along with your clear, concise directions has made the world of difference. My stitches are gorgeous and mine looks like yours. I am a solid beginner, with good beginning intermediate skills and you just became one of my favorite teachers. I am working on my 1st, basic blanket and this was the last part I needed to understand (using my beginner yarn) before jumping in with my project yarn. Thank you!

I have tried and given up on the foundation double row many times and watched many different videos but your video finally made it all click! I can actually visualise what I'm doing with that ch1 forming the bottom then working the stitch sideways in comparison to the normal way. I am doing a second cardigan for my baby nephews and I did the first one with normal chain rows so I am looking forward to an easier and neater edging on this one. Thanks!

Thanks - VERY clear instructions, and video is very well done, so we can see exactly how you are doing it. I have read multiple instructions and watched multiple videos on this technique, and this is the best I’ve seen. I find it interesting that you start the first foundation DC in the bottom loop of the first chain - I have seen and read of it done in a variety of ways, but I like the look of this, a nice square corner. You are very clear about how you turn to start the next row, thanks. Maybe clearer with DC, but in the past I haven’t clear with SC on whether you start your next row on the “top” or “bottom” of the stitch. I will watch your foundation SC video.
My only concern is that the bottom corner of that last stitch is rounded and doesn’t match the corner by the first stitch. Do you kind of square this up when you do a border? I think put a stitch marker in there to make sure I don’t get confused about where the corner is.
    Anyway, well done!

If the pattern uses traditional ch 196 and DC in 4th ch from hook, how many foundation DC would you do?
