Brrroooo!!!!! This makes so much sense now. I have been straight struggling with accidentle special moves and its been driving me crazy!!! Thank you for this. 👍
The release check wasn’t too bad until I started playing Ermac. Then I went back to Reptile and it was so much better. I can’t believe it’s on as default!
Thanks for explaining this TrueUnderDawg I never understood what release check was so i guess I've been playing every MK wrong! Let's Go TrueUnderDawg!!!!!!! 👊🏻🎮🐉🦂🦂🦂✌🏻
Omg! This video was very informative. I was getting so frustrated with characters performing moves that I did not intend while performing combos. Thank you!
Thanks to youtube I have learned to have this settings right even back when I started with MK11 7 months ago.. but I would have had some problems if I haven't seen a video from another channel so it's great you posted it too!
This helped forsure been kind of noticing something up with my gameplay now that im getting more experienced. Did not know about these settings or that this is how the inputs worked. Thanks✌
Yea ngl, release check is mad helpful. Not everything is for everyone. Didn’t even realize I had release check when I made it to Elder God, and just kept it on. Once ERMAC came out I started had to change it. But tbh since I’m a geras and a Havik main it really helps with the time stop cancels and what not. It’s really good especially when using a string where the last button input is going to be similar to whatever special I’m canceling into. All I gotta do is do the directional part then let go. Feels a lot smoother and easier to flow that way.
I think the reason for these weird settings is that when you invite people to play this game who are noobs or never played before it allows them to more easily do awesome special moves without them having to actually look at the settings. Basically it creates more hype and action for people who are new and know nothing.
This actually helped so much with the special move amplify. I thought the game was just programmed/designed stupidly or that there was something wrong with me. No matter what I did the special move amplify only works 1/10 times, I tried doing the inputs differently, holding the amplify button, spamming etc, it was very inconsistent. But now I pretty much get an amplify every time, Yey now I won't have to drop the combo halfway through
I need to test this when I get home cause I wasn't even aware of this! But it makes sense as to all those times when I'm trying to input something else and my ass is just standing there eating a combo
OMG! Thank you. I was wondering why during the character challenges my character would sometimes do a triple punch combo instead of a double punch, when I was literally pressing the correct combination and nothing more and why it was so damn difficult to execute some of the simplest attacks without getting something totally different. Input timing is critical. I can't wait to play again tonight. Thank you!!!
Appreciate the overview and explanation! I had forgotten to turn these settings off and was getting those weird unexpected inputs and wondering why.. Thank you!
One of your best videos. I always played on long cause never knew what this option meant lol. I always got input errors cause of this and would cost the game. When someone would whiff. Changing this to medium to start.
Oh, so I need to turn off easy input's. I've been ducking people and trying to do D1 with subzero, and so many times I've wondered why the iceball starts coming out.
I can see release check being useful for players that might have digital mobility issues. Meaning that it's really hard for them to press and release buttons quickly, making it much harder for them to do rapid button presses. They'd still have to learn how to play the game around this feature, but it could allow them to pull of crazy combos despite having slower input times. Even in this case, however, it would be such a niche situation that I don't understand why it's on by default. It would make more sense for it to be like the proximity sounds that help visually impaired players, a great feature for players who need it and should absolutely be included in the game... but not set to default.
Bro thank you for that release check settings I was checking my inputs and I thought I was going insane. I have never seen it or needed in any other fg game
I usually play MK1 at school since one of the teachers has a PS5 and he lets us play on it on weekends. I remember turning off release check on his console and I don't remember doing a special move accidentally.
Turning off release check can actually make you play worse. I’m an Ashrah main and I decided to turn off release check and I regretted it because I kept dropping combos that require f2,df3 ex . So be careful when you turn it off.
Super casual fighting game guy here. I have played 10 11 and the injustices. Gwtting whopped at this game on godamn medium. I suck. Hoping these changes may make it feel better.
I can think of only one reason for negative edge and it’s tied to Street Fighter, you hold down the button on a single input like a forward 1 or 4 that’s safe on block and release it when you see an opening. For MK it’s not as likely than you’d expect.
Hmm🤔This is actually a good thing to know, when going through and dissecting a characters moves. This could very-well fix all the issues I've been having.
Holy crap I was wondering why I was having issues. That negative edge setting is bonkers and so is the long window option. Should be off by default and just optional for accessibility
I don't play with negative edge on but I've heard some people find it more useful for timing armoured gaps as you don't need to input the special timing in the gap, or time the special input to complete at the gap, you just queue it up and then release the button - but I have no personal experience with it so can't comment on if that's helpful or not or a good trade-off or not.
bro this actaully helped, I use sub zero and when my opponent blocks the back triangle I immediately do the ice slide, and before it was bad because like 70 percent of the time the ice slide wouldn't input and it would instead input the ice klone but now i can hit it every time. Thanks underdawg
I spent over a 100 hours of just trying to learn the challenges combos the game has for every character and I had that release check on it makes it almost impossible, I even went to Reddit to rant my frustration of how unnecessarily hard it is to do basic juggles, NRS should be sponsoring you, if my brother didn’t watch your videos I wouldn’t be playing this one
Bro thank you I’ve been having so much problems with wrong inputs like I know I didn’t hit the buttons to do that move yet it comes out when I’m trying to do something different like for example I’ve been practicing with Ermac butt when I try to do forward four and when I do the knee and try to go into his air stance it does the teleport like wtfffffffff I did not press circle it was fr making me mad bc I couldn’t do the cool combos I saw from super butt now since I turned that setting off it never does the teleport I’m so happy you made this video THANK YOU
release check is actually very helpful to me, i got a new controller with a very meh dpad so executing is way harder but with release check it's way easier, instead of 4bf4 I'd just do 4bf and get both inputs
There's no fucking way that release check is real, do yall have any idea how many times I dropped a combo with shao because I wanted to end it with 4 + DF2 but the game kept thinking I was making DF4??? NRS gotta be trolling with this
It annoys me to no end that if I'm walking back, then blocking with Ermac, after I take my turn back, if I press forward 2 fir his overhead, I get the grab instead. NRS needs to get with the program of there should never be Back - Forward or Down Up moves. Theres enough DF and DB commands to give all these characters 8 special moves.
The input thing is real .I was wondering why I could not even complete combos on training even though doing the inputs correctly .I'm switching everything off
Dude im so glad i clicked on this video lol been practicing back dashing rceently, and with raiden i would back up and try to do forward 3 and it would end up doing the flying special move instead lol as a mid player as is it made me felt especially dumb
I actually need negative edge on, I don't quite comprehend why, but combos seem to come out if it is on, if it isn't I struggle more to do them, important to note, I'm playing on a computer keyboard.
I play with release check on as I naturally block anytime I’m not attacking. I feel like it gives me a few moments during dial up to change my mind or go a different combo route. I rarely do NEVER have a special move misinputs

@TrueUnderDawgGaming it may take awhile as I’m brand new to fighting games to learn to input these moves with the short window timing but, that’s what training mode is for at the end of the day and I figure, the less chance of messing up or getting the wrong input when I am going for a specific combo or whatever the case may be the better right? So the whole time whenever I tried to perform a combo it doesn't give me the exact special attack when used. That is a good tip on that so I may try to turn off that setting and to see if it makes any difference
when we are talking about input already why the hell does block+3+4 trigger my fatal blow ? sometimes i am slightly to fast with my combo and it randomly starts the fatal blow its annoying af and more importantly why cant u disable that
