One of your best videos!!! I will use this to explain to people why MK is not that easy and it actually is harder in some regards!!! Thanks for making it so straight to the point and you actually mentioned things I didn't know!
I actually quite like "combo lockout" as you called it. It prevents mashing and encourages precision inputs. I came from For Honor where mechanical skill and execution is practically not existent outside of ganking (2v1) and teamfights (2v2, 3v3, etc.). It's refreshing that you have to actually have to get your inputs correct and adds skill to the game. I get that for casual players and general audience it can be frustrating, so maybe a nice compromise in the future would be to make ranked modes have these systems, but casual modes allow for more lenient inputs.
So basically someone at netherealm was playing multiverse on injustice 2 and said “hey wait a minute, this fighter assist mechanic should be a main feature in the next mk” 💀
I was hoping someone could explain these type of mechanics and point out some of the extra hard moves require precise timing and such! But still somewhat better than one button mapping/tapping
MK also doesn't feature legacy special inputs; meaning, the motion for Ryu's fireball has always been d,df,Punch. Scorpion's spear, however, changes it's input across most of the games.
Mk also have more zoners than Tekken and SF to the point where its more insane.. And the grab gues tec is much harder than the 2.. Especially Ermacs grab mechanics
Absolutely, NRS has a weird fixation of giving characters some kind of projectile that does a lot of chip damage or keep you safe. Surprisingly Johnny is the only one without a projectile unless you count his glasses but I don’t see any reason why you’d use that.
Honestly the combo lock out I’m fine with because as you said with just mashing one button it’s not fun so with me it’s more of a skill thing just need to learn to take it slow but with like faster combo routes to where your needing to press so many inputs quickly I understand the frustration so I would understand if that needed a little leeway
Buffering and Combo Locking are the most annoying things in this game (Gameplay-wise) It's very discouraging when trying to learn a character that already has complicated inputs for an efficient combo but also requires absolute timing... it stops me from learning my favorite characters and encourages spamming or giving up entirely and moving onto a different character I hate simply because it's easier.
I do find it to be more difficult. It’s definitely harder than 11 IMO. I find the combo timing needs to be so disgustingly precise especially for pauses between combo steps. Do you think NR will ever adjust any of the issues you mentioned regarding the buffer and the combo lockout or is this just the way it will be forever?
I never understood this contest fighting game have of wHiCh iS tHe bEsT nonsense Mortal kombat, street fighter, tekken. They are all good games in their own way and nobody should be afraid to be a fan of them no matter how much the opposite site is trying to talk it into your brain play the game that gives you the most fun end of the story?
As an MK player none of this is a problem to me because I haven't played any other fighting game but I'm glad I found a video explaining MK is not easier as some people say!!!
sorry man but the autocombos example is bad, atleast in Tekken if you use autocombos youre asking to loose over and over since your oponent can see your inputs or you are ultra begginer. Mk is not that easy , it is still a meme compared to sf6 and t8 , and dont get me wrong i played mk 11 until god and mk1 util demi god i totally fell in love and thats why i tried other fighting games and oh boy is mk way way scrubby and ez. One charackter in tekken is deeper than mk1 + cameos. Also the key bindings thing is also really memish, because if you are the equivalent of warrior in mk lvl in Tekken you will get boddied. Sf6 is way strickter in frames and it actually was really hard to come from mk to sf. Legacy moves is a good thing and something i really find sad about MK not having legacy. Also the skill expression topic is uncomparable with others. And then you have WB doing all this unfinished scrubby things to the community. Combo breaker MK about 240 players signed in, compared to 1,5k + with T8 and SF6. I love you man but you are way to bias with mk1.
I started playing MK1 on may 16th and thought I was doing kinda alright, then I went into online mode and I realised I sucked. Idk how people with even lower levels than me manage to learn everything so quickly😅. It’s hard, especially having to remember every button combo and I still need to learn how to do air combos.
U have to play online to get good. There is no other way, you will get cooked, but will get better in the long run. Also stick to 1 character that you really like.
I recommend going to practice mode to get a small sample for how each character and kameo assist works or look up character guides and try them out/mix match what feels good for you. Personally I use the Invasion mode as my practice map just to multitask the character mastery and unlock skins, wouldn’t recommend it unless you want event themed skins.
I feel like the most important and hard thing in mk is reaction speed. Micro ducks, confirms and punishing are so important. Combos are easy tho. The difficulty comes from the lvl you're aiming for, like in every other fg.
It s normal to feel differently for our first fighting game.. but in 2024, i really enjoy mk1.. with Ethernet At the end, a lot of people can't handle a lost because they only can blame themselves.. At FPS you can blame your team, a cheater.. etc.. when you lose.. No such thing at FGC, you want to improve, you gotta practice.. period
Really didn't like those days when so called pro players used to mock Mortal Kombat and say it wasn't areal fighting game. I am glad that we don't hear that as much these days. I still think there is a level of execution required if you want to be really good with this game. Also in certain situations it can be very unforgiving.
id say sf6 has the hardest combos cuz of drive rush especially with the combo system like normally if ur opponent is in the air u can do anything to keep them in the air but in sf6 you are more limited in combo lenght for other things like neutral i’d go tekken 8 because of sidestepping, stances, and character variety mk1 gaving a block button doesnt change much when it comes to blocking besides switching from no block button to mk1 and actually the block button stoped things like cross ups and sandwiching your oppenent
Personally as someone who grew up on streetfighter and Tekken..i find MK1 way harder.. And i noticed all the issues you listed..by far MK1 you have to be more precise with inputs than the other 2.. Tekken to me is overall the most complicated..
Personally, I think MK1 is more worth it to play, it makes you work in order to get what you want, it makes the experience much more fun and it means you worked hard to get where you are right now in the game.
You just listed some of the main reasons I can't play MK for more than a few days in a row. The stupid buffer thing is specially disgusting. I do like some characters and mechanics, but in the end the game is too annoying, so I switch to play any other more polished FG.
Me posts The Main Villains for the 2nd Season of a Marvel vs DC Show and reveals Scorpion’s Voice TrueUnderDawgGaming: releases Videos about Gameplay He truly is a UnderDawg 😉
As someone that also plays all the modern fighters I would not call it the easiest game but I can understand how veteran FGC players who have long since removed their training wheels might regard it as so. Also push block meaning you can't just create free whiff punishes is real. Also basic movement in MK is hardest 100%
This is gonna be one of your first videos where I cannot agree, for each argument i have an argument against or a diffrent view/experience, for example no modern controls but the input system for motion inputs is way more forgiving but also loses a lot of technical stuff u can do with it like TKs
Mk1 is really hard. The combo timings are too tight, can't enjoy many characters. If I can't combo smoothly then I can't use any kameos. Nitara and sareena is only characters i feel confident comboing. If I play other characters against someone they quit immediately because i'm only using special moves and basic attacks. I'm not having fun
I think he’s the only character with a “just mash B” combo so yeah. Though I forgot if the first two are highs or mids, if they’re mids then it’s a no brainer but if they’re highs then you can just neutral duck and poke.
ive got so used to mortal kombat gameplay with 11 and 1 i find other fighting games alot harder to understand and remeber controls , still vaild points tho mk is alot harder than people give it credit for
modern day MK, especially MK1 makes you spend 70% of your time in the lab just to get all the combos right and 30% actual gaming (unlocking stuff etc,), fuck that. Was a fan since the OG MK but this game killed the franchise for good.
This game is so much fun, I love the fact that technicaly every character has bread and butter combos, and any weaknesses can be worked out with a good kameo, great game and highly recommend it especially if you love 3D era characters🙏
I dont understand why do you have a problem with autocombos; only game you could argue they were too strong is dbfz and even there it was character specific. Good video tho
Lag switching is extremely common in ranked for all mk games , and casual mode full ov rage quiters... thats what make the game not fun , not to mention the average ping ull see is 100-250 very rarely do u find 40-60 ping who aint a lag switcher or rage quiter
I’ve played both and street fighter 6 is way harder the higher you get in rank the game has so much more depth, just watch Evo and in any mk the pros play the same characters over and over again and the combos they do is nothing I don’t see online by average players where pro street fighter players do combos I would never see online playing
Let's dissect the man ... 1. Auto Combo. Being that fighting games rely on you not being obvious and that Auto combos have one route. They're really not that reliable, especially at any level that isn't a beginner. So you can't use it as a crutch for too long. 3. Block button, If we're arguing defensive option then there's not that many in mortal Kombat, in Tekken you can hold back but yóu have to worry about throws, ofcourse throws in mk exist . But not as robust as Tekken . On top of that there's side stepping, guard breaks and character specific things。 3. I agree about input buffers. 4. Match ups , 😂 yo.. even if you removed all the legacy stuff from Tekken, still has way more match up knowledge than mk. Komeos don't have that many moves, nor do the characters. One Tekken characters moves are still worth 5 to 10 characters from MK . 5. Option select , pretty handy feature.. Honestly I've seen your Tekken gameplay, really not that good, I think if you were in higher ranks , you wouldn't have this disposition.
Mortal kombat especially mk1 is definitely the most difficult fighting game in terms of playing like a pro and performing optimal combos....tekken 8 only requires more skill in movement cause u can sidestep...but mk1 is overall more difficult to perform actual combos
(Edit: I forgot to add on the bu1+2 the inputs have to be timed so for the first 3-4 12s it starts a slow but then speeds up a lot which u still have to time correctly.) Bro you have no idea what you’re talking about 😂😂😂 go buy tekken 8 and pick Bryan then try to do 1+2+3 into bf2 on block, 1+2+3 into b4 on block might be too much for u too 😂, just those two inputs I guarantee you will not be able to land consistently if it’s the only thing you practice for a week and then hitting it online is a whole different story since it needs a set up. If you really think mk1 is harder your brain will literally shit itself if you actually learned anything about tekken. Try out this wall carry Bryan combo too, bf2 dash qcf34 b21f24 dash b24 dash heat burst b21f1+2 and if this hits the wall either bu 1+2 12121212121213 or uf22223 or if near you can hold forward after 1+2 to reach the wall and finish with uf22223 or u can change it with with some other move that interacts with the wall like 1+2 then get a wall splat or wall bounce or wall break to get a few extra dmg in and if u didn’t use the heat dash on the 1+2 that has access to heat dash maybe you can use it again to get close to another wall or just heat smash instead. Mk is easy af, there is no if ands or buts, the amount of moves in tekken makes its super easy to miss input and especially when there’s tons of directional inputs. When I try getting the double knee qcf34 for optimal dmg if not timed right you will get f3, I have no idea why this guy said anything about input buffering also there’s no special cancelling in tekken and mk has tons of special cancels with the window being huge. The only combo I actually had trouble with in mk was Johnny’s star power 80% fb reset combo.
I hate mk1 made the block & enhance button the same one. And that you had to commit to enhance and time it perfectly rather than getting to choose if you want to enhance mid special move like in mk11
Mk9 and X was like this they just went back to the way most people preferred. The way meter worked in 11 was more like injustice than mk other than the automatic regen
Most combos aren’t difficult at all. Mixups and cancels and optimal combos can be difficult and take skill. However doing the same bread n butter easy combo doesn’t take any skill. Zoning doesn’t take any skill I was able to get God rank just using Reiko stars and tremor boulders no combos no mixups just doing 1 move. For example the clips of rain gameplay, doing the same combo into sub zero mixup. Doing that one thing over and over doesn’t take skill, to block it and get out does.
I did a test with my second gt and RANKED up with out single punch kick or combos just stand still and get your a..! Kicked ive got to warrior rank that says it all in my OPINION about the RANKED in kombat leauge 😱🤣😱

Easy to be a scrub. Harder to play with creativity, skill, and generally not being an asshole.
Which is 90% of KL. 😂😂
"Combo lockout" has made me a much better player...... I think it's a good thing, honestly.
Buffering and Combo Locking are the most annoying things in this game (Gameplay-wise)
It's very discouraging when trying to learn a character that already has complicated inputs for an efficient combo but also requires absolute timing... it stops me from learning my favorite characters and encourages spamming or giving up entirely and moving onto a different character I hate simply because it's easier.
I never understood this contest fighting game have of wHiCh iS tHe bEsT nonsense
Mortal kombat, street fighter, tekken.
They are all good games in their own way and nobody should be afraid to be a fan of them no matter how much the opposite site is trying to talk it into your brain play the game that gives you the most fun end of the story?
GG strive good too
Sadly, that’s what people don’t do. I think the best metaphor is comparing them to being a sports fan like Team Nintendo vs Sega or DOTA vs League.
The only challenge i have with m1k is not falling asleep.
As an MK player none of this is a problem to me because I haven't played any other fighting game but I'm glad I found a video explaining MK is not easier as some people say!!!
played injustice most of my life and started playing mk since like mk X and just now learned walking backwards dosnt block in mk...
sorry man but the autocombos example is bad, atleast in Tekken if you use autocombos youre asking to loose over and over since your oponent can see your inputs or you are ultra begginer.
The combo lock is my only problem with this game, that is the only reason I can't do 50%combos.
THAT COMBO LOCKOUT IS REAL DUDE. FUHHHHH---
I feel like the most important and hard thing in mk is reaction speed. Micro ducks, confirms and punishing are so important. Combos are easy tho. The difficulty comes from the lvl you're aiming for, like in every other fg.
just reduce the chip damage on projectiles and overall it might improve more solid gameplay
let a street fighter or tekken player hop on mkx to see how easy it is
I actually do want to see that and Hell, put MK players on SF and Tekkén to see how they do. Even let SF and Tekkén players try out their other games.
Check out Sonic and Ninjakillas gameplay in other fighting games they are really good but I seen SF guys talk crap about Mk1 because they suck
Mk9 through 11 was hard as hell
It s normal to feel differently for our first fighting game.. but in 2024, i really enjoy mk1.. with Ethernet
At the end, a lot of people can't handle a lost because they only can blame themselves..
Also in certain situations it can be very unforgiving.
id say sf6 has the hardest combos cuz of drive rush especially with the combo system like normally if ur opponent is in the air u can do anything to keep them in the air but in sf6 you are more limited in combo lenght
for other things like neutral i’d go tekken 8 because of sidestepping, stances, and character variety
mk1 gaving a block button doesnt change much when it comes to blocking besides switching from no block button to mk1 and actually the block button stoped things like cross ups and sandwiching your oppenent
This is exactly why I get pissed playing Mileena Mavado because her only mid if you input 4 one to many times Mavado will not come out
Personally as someone who grew up on streetfighter and Tekken..i find MK1 way harder..
And i noticed all the issues you listed..by far MK1 you have to be more precise with inputs than the other 2..
Tekken to me is overall the most complicated..
Who looked at M1K with kameo fighters, air combat, and all of it's nonsense and thought "Easy sauce".
Personally, I think MK1 is more worth it to play, it makes you work in order to get what you want, it makes the experience much more fun and it means you worked hard to get where you are right now in the game.
I’m disabled and I can never block in MK but I could if it blocked if you walked back
The problem with mk in general is how overpowerd paid characters are. No wonder why everyone is playing peacemaker or omniman.
You just listed some of the main reasons I can't play MK for more than a few days in a row. The stupid buffer thing is specially disgusting. I do like some characters and mechanics, but in the end the game is too annoying, so I switch to play any other more polished FG.
Yeah this game combos are hard asf
Me posts The Main Villains for the 2nd Season of a Marvel vs DC Show and reveals Scorpion’s Voice
TrueUnderDawgGaming: releases Videos about Gameplay
He truly is a UnderDawg 😉
As someone that also plays all the modern fighters I would not call it the easiest game but I can understand how veteran FGC players who have long since removed their training wheels might regard it as so. Also push block meaning you can't just create free whiff punishes is real. Also basic movement in MK is hardest 100%
When are we going to get homelander we saw his trailer.
What's your thoughts on Shredder as DLC from TMNT?
these things makes me love mk 1
This is gonna be one of your first videos where I cannot agree, for each argument i have an argument against or a diffrent view/experience, for example no modern controls but the input system for motion inputs is way more forgiving but also loses a lot of technical stuff u can do with it like TKs
Mk1 is really hard. The combo timings are too tight, can't enjoy many characters. If I can't combo smoothly then I can't use any kameos. Nitara and sareena is only characters i feel confident comboing. If I play other characters against someone they quit immediately because i'm only using special moves and basic attacks. I'm not having fun
does barakas slaughterhouse count as auto combo ?
I think he’s the only character with a “just mash B” combo so yeah. Though I forgot if the first two are highs or mids, if they’re mids then it’s a no brainer but if they’re highs then you can just neutral duck and poke.
I think the button canceling is good I think it’s crazy other games let you be so messy with buttons
ive got so used to mortal kombat gameplay with 11 and 1 i find other fighting games alot harder to understand and remeber controls , still vaild points tho mk is alot harder than people give it credit for
modern day MK, especially MK1 makes you spend 70% of your time in the lab just to get all the combos right and 30% actual gaming (unlocking stuff etc,), fuck that.
Was a fan since the OG MK but this game killed the franchise for good.
I find this game harder to actually combo in the mk11 im not quick enough to get buttons timed right in the millisecond
Imagine playing as the red ranger 🔥🔥🔥🔥
This game is so much fun, I love the fact that technicaly every character has bread and butter combos, and any weaknesses can be worked out with a good kameo, great game and highly recommend it especially if you love 3D era characters🙏
I did that shit with king in tekken 7 and had a field day 😭
I dont understand why do you have a problem with autocombos; only game you could argue they were too strong is dbfz and even there it was character specific.
On top of that there's side stepping, guard breaks and character specific things。
Hard as in Original SNES MK1-MK3 difficulty?
Easy combos are stupid
I hate mk1 made the block & enhance button the same one. And that you had to commit to enhance and time it perfectly rather than getting to choose if you want to enhance mid special move like in mk11
Mk9 and X was like this they just went back to the way most people preferred. The way meter worked in 11 was more like injustice than mk other than the automatic regen
11 is definitely the black sheep
"Mk1 doesn't have auto combos."
Baraka disapproves 👎
Soooooooo are we gonna get a nerf for ERMAC??????
WHY tf would you give him that much range!?
Mk1 is extremely difficult, especially once you get up to the God rank...One mistake or input error will cost you 40% of your health bar...
Easiest way to put it is SF got easier as new games came out and MK got harder when new ones came out (minus 11)
That’s a good point. Mk11 is the only game to get easier
@@TrueUnderDawgGaming love your content!
Wow, here before the 5 min mark with no notification. Thanks, TH-cam
Man he ended up saying how other fighting games are better than mortal Kombat 1 and not push 1 button man Trueunderdawggaming just mocked that Eddy Gordo player for Reaching to the highest rank in Tekken 8 for just mashing 1 botton
Did he actually get to a high rank???
@@TrueUnderDawgGaming yes it was all over my Google news and IGN also talk about it
@@ETG715 He made it just out of beginner ranks, to Garyu, not even close to the "highest rank."
I hate auto-combo and I hate easy one button play, that has no place in fighting games nonsense.
I like Mortal Kombat 1 games❤😊
