In Texas, I went to a Korean grocery store and they sold makgeolli to me as a beauty drink. Even this cute little old lady walked by and said oh yes it is so good for your skin. It even came with a free facial paper mask. I downed a bottle of it, tasted no alcohol, and got jacked up. I was drunk texting how I understand how people think they are pretty after drinking it. It is pretty tasty and I still buy it.
We figured that these are some of our major videos, so we should put them on our major channel, rather than our bonus channel, which is more blooper-y stuff and personal things, you know?
It's funny how they talk about Souju and say "oooh it's almost 20% alcohol, that's way strong!" Meanwhile in Hungary there's a drink called Pálinka which is 40% - 80% THAT is what foreigners usually describe as nail polish, although the 50%-ish ones still taste nice and fruity.
Actually what's funny is they should know better, because they're canadians. We have everclear here in Canada, which is literally 95% alcohol.(Well, it can sometimes be as 'low' as 75%.) Protip: Never ever drink everclear straight, and also let anyone you know try to. Ever, for reals, just no. It tastes awful and alcohol poisoning is a real possibility.
PurpleGhost Oh! Reading the end of your comment reminded me of a crink that they have in the states but in California its illegal to sale it.(I'm not really sure what other states have this) So you have to get it outside the state. Apparently, my friend told me that his bottle reads "Warning: Do not drink alone. Drinking this beverage alone may cause alcohol poisoning or death."
Korean don't drink a bottle, they drink bottles and bottles of it. Plus when u go to a bar or a club, u can have vodka, whisky, or cocktails. I guess soju is just their national spirit like vodka for Poland and Russia
Lol When I was young, I lived in Seoul (I'm Korean). There was one or two times when late at night, a drunk man kept knocking on our door because he mistook our apartment for his. There was another time when a drunk man actually entered our apartment at night because he thought it was his apartment. :P
when ever i am sad, tired or just overwhelmed by work & college i just sit down and watch you guys and i just forget about it all and laugh my butt off!!! its so amazing how you guys are and how it feels like your real and not some made up persona just trying to get views. Keep up the great work guys you are AMAZING!!!!!! and I have the biggest crush on the pink fairy and her blue hair stead
I was born and raised in Korea (and I'm currently in New York), and I find it so interesting to see Korea from an outside perspective. As someone who went to a Korean international school with a lot of foreign students, I never really experienced that drastic Korea North America change, so I couldn't properly evaluate it. Love your energy and enthusiasm, love your video topics:) Definitely subscribing!
Bleerp! @ 4:55 The sound of spewage when Martina is describing the piles of Kimchi infused red hurl... Started to laugh but I immediately visualized it on my mind! Uh, ohI!! I can't, I can't even say it... I'm very queasy when it comes to even the mention of people blowing chunks... Maybe someone can capitalize on the idea of making trendy Korean barf bags as a unisex must-have accessory! ( I want 10%!!)
***** they base age on the year as opposed to the month and day. so you take the year you were born and subtract that amount from the current year (eg. 2015 - 1992)
So...here's a question. Why isn't there a higher rate of cirrhosis in Korea? Has this culture bred into them some kind of super-resilient liver or something?
Lunay LeZarde My sister, who worked as an English teacher for Koreans online, said that they have a higher incidence of stomach cancer now. I am not sure about liver cancer, though. They also have more"drivers for hire" now because most people cannot drive and are of course no longer allowed to drive after having drunk themselves to oblivion, like literally passing out on the streets.
sammiechuu Thanks to dramas, I guessed at the higher rate of stomach cancer, although I'm not clear on whether the high rate of drunkenness has any direct correlation to it. Thanks for the input, though! ^_^
How are people when they are drunk? Do they bother you or get violent? Some K drama shows drunk guys that try pull a girl, take advantage etc...Does that happen in Korea? In North America, some girls who are completely drunk get take advantage of and get raped like the Stanford swimmer rapist case recently. Does this happen in S. Korea?
4:21 "THAT'S FOR MAKING FUN OF SHINEE!" ROFL I love how you guys have been going strong for several years now, and your humor is still awesome and fresh. xD
I love your videos simon and martina! hopefully when I visit korea I can meet you guys in person. I haven't been to korea since 2007 to visit my family, im sure much has changed since.
Not sure if this was mentioned, but you don't mention HOW Koreans drink. Like always having a chaser after a sip/shot. That's why you always see Korean people eating while drinking. It's consisted very rude to not eat while drinking.
My career dream is being a fashion designer and I'm planning to move to korea after I get my career. Do you think my career will have a bond meeting that involves drinking? I'm asking because I don't drink. please answer.
+G 바네사 this is late and im not for sure - as iv not been there yet (but will go there this summer). however if you were the boss fashion designer then i would think then you would not have to have bond meeting with drinking. I'm going to korea for study abroad and our korean professors are going to teach us how to properly decline a drink. I do think you can drink water or juice along w/ coworkers to show your bond.I don't drink either so i understand your concern.
:) This video brings back memories of the drinking games I used to play with my friends in Korea and Canada. All I have to say is that I am glad that jimjibangs are opened 24/7 because without them, my friends and I would have nowhere to turn to after a night of drinking.
I bought Soju here in The Netherlands, I still have the empty bottle. You guys made a video about how to drink soju with Coke, and we tried it. It was really fun! Thank you guys.
Thanks for this! Because I'm attending an international summer school this summer, and we're all college students, and many of us want to party - some more than others - but still. We're excited to study AND party in Korea!
YES OMG PERFECTTT Soozee and Intern Leigh are more attuned to Korean culture than S&M, so to get them to think of things that might be viewed as abnormal outside of Korea could be interesting!!
I'm on my iPod right now... When I tried to open the video in TH-cam it wouldn't play, but when I opened it in Safari from the EYK website it worked fine...
I agree, I feel so safe when I'm out drinking in Korea. People are really nice and taxi drivers are very tolerant of drunk people. BTW Martina! Your hair is soooooo cute!!! =DD Love it!
My wife, dog, and I live in Taiwan. We love your channel. We have seen you travel to Canada a few times with Spudgy and we would like to know what hoops you need to jump through to get him home for a visit? Is it worth the trouble for a short trip or do you always just take him with you? What documents are required? Tickets? Special markings?
lol as a korean, when I heard you guys say "there's not a lot of drinking in korea" at the beginning, I was like.. "er.. guys... what?!". Nice one guys, nice one.
Martina!!! Please make a tutorial.. on how u did your hair crumbed/wavey/curly? The hair style of this video! Please please please make a tutorial! U will save my life!
I work for a cafe so we actually use a point system. Essentially its said in numerical form in Korean but in English it's; "Double, Oh, Seven, and Bang". It is started randomly and the first person points at another person and says "Double" then that person points at another person in any direction and says "Oh" then that person points at another player and says "Seven". The person that received the "Seven" has the "Gun" so they point at another person and say "Bang".
Hello from Calgary, Simon & Martina!! As a med student, I am curious about the health care system in Korea and how it compares to our Canadian system or even the American system. What is the Korean process of getting into medical school? On a related note, how is scientific research funding and what seems to be the focus of the Korean research efforts? Many thanks!
can you guys talk about the clubs at hongdae from...a foreigners point of view? goshh!! id love to meeet you guys in someday! at hongdae maybe??or anywhere else, just on the streets! im such a fan!
Something interesting about Soju is that the shots for Soju are made so each bottle contains 7 shots. So if you have a party of a number other than a multiple of 7, there will always be some left. So it almost forces you to buy another bottle.
If you watch one of their recent livestream videos I think they mention it a few times there since they got so many sweets from fans that they can't eat yet ^^
How is your reception in Korea? Has anyone been offended by anything you've said, or have you ever gotten hate mail (not just trolls on the interwebz)? Does it ever bring you down? I hope it doesn't, cause you guys are awesommmmmme. Love from Canada!!!
Hi, Simon and Martina! I have submitted English subtitles for this video in community contributions, if you could review them and put them up for the video, that would be awesome.~
I HAVE A QUESTION. I go to an international university in Taipei. All of my favourite people were from Korea. A lot of us would go out drinking a lot, but my one friend would always politely decline the offer of getting too drunk because she said her father still hadn't finished "teaching" her out to drink. Is this a common practice? Is it done for business purposes?
Hi guys. Here in Los Angeles, there's a huge Korean area which features special night clubs geared around singles, where you have bottle service and the occasional lady that will come around to your table. Kind of like the Korean version of speed dating.
Simon and Martina are relationship goals.
This didn’t age well
In Texas, I went to a Korean grocery store and they sold makgeolli to me as a beauty drink. Even this cute little old lady walked by and said oh yes it is so good for your skin. Where in Texas are you cuz I need to go to that store
Instablaster...
"I've seen people totally hammered on like a Tuesday!"
GOING UP ON A TUESDAY ;)
Hahahhaha! That's exactly what I sang when I heard that sentence.I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thought that
+Paige Morris WHERE WAS THIS FROM OMG
some rap song hahaha :P
Isn't it like The Weekend or?
korea is the ireland of asia
Wow. Martina arms 😱 when she didn't have tattoos 💪🏼
It's at the 720 resolution. All the other ones work, for some reason (except for the TH-cam iPhone/iPad app, for some reason as well).
holy soju - - your videos are addictive
We figured that these are some of our major videos, so we should put them on our major channel, rather than our bonus channel, which is more blooper-y stuff and personal things, you know?
at 0:20 when they said there aren't that many drinkers in Korea, I was like, "Stop lying. Korea is like DRINKS HERE, DRINKS THERE, DRINKS EVERYWHERE!"
It's funny how they talk about Souju and say "oooh it's almost 20% alcohol, that's way strong!"
Meanwhile in Hungary there's a drink called Pálinka which is 40% - 80%

Yeah. Most Vodka are like 40% alcohol or higher, at least here in the states. 20% is really small
Bullshit. Drinking something with 80% alcohol would kill you.
Korean don't drink a bottle, they drink bottles and bottles of it. Plus when u go to a bar or a club, u can have vodka, whisky, or cocktails. I guess soju is just their national spirit like vodka for Poland and Russia
re-watching this and Simon says soju "tastes like nail polish remover". THANK YOU!!! THIS IS WHAT I'VE ALWAYS SAID!
Lol When I was young, I lived in Seoul (I'm Korean). There was one or two times when late at night, a drunk man kept knocking on our door because he mistook our apartment for his. you guys make me happy every time i watch your channel.
Got a beer ad for this video
Ha! Great :D
Oh, also, Martina your hair looks GORGEOUS like this. Favorite style on you, very much a hippy bohemian type feel to it - love!
What's the drinking age in Korea
***** they base age on the year as opposed to the month and day. so you take the year you were born and subtract that amount from the current year (eg. 2015 - 1992)
Yay!!! I got my one of a kind EYK Photo in the mail yesterday!! You guys are now on my fridge!!
So...here's a question. Why isn't there a higher rate of cirrhosis in Korea? Has this culture bred into them some kind of super-resilient liver or something?
Buddhism > Christian
My Name is Not
I was actually looking for a sensible reply, but thank you for your interest.
Lunay LeZarde i believe there is a higher incidence of pancreatic cancer? Was trying to find some journal articles but I was too lazy lol!

What about other recreational ( or other) drug use in Korea? Do they smoke weed etc and if so ?... Thanks.
Love how simon is synchronising his moves to what martina says in 0:59 !! OMGG too funny!!
Simon's so worried about the mature content, yet he's wearing a Chicago Fucks cap lol
I love your videos simon and martina! hopefully when I visit korea I can meet you guys in person. I haven't been to korea since 2007 to visit my family, im sure much has changed since.
What Western TV shows people watch in Korea? Game of Thrones? How I met your mother? South Park?
I don't think koreans would be able to get the jokes in North American comedy shows..
Im heading there in roughly a month.. This gonna be fun
Not sure if this was mentioned, but you don't mention HOW Koreans drink. Like always having a chaser after a sip/shot. That's why you always see Korean people eating while drinking. It's consisted very rude to not eat while drinking.
Hmm, you might be right. Even in the bars, they often serve a beer with a snack. Who am I to complain. Free food ;)
John Holmes
Yeah I was wondering why you guys have your TL;DRs on your other channel, glad that you've moved them.
My career dream is being a fashion designer and I'm planning to move to korea after I get my career. Do you think my career will have a bond meeting that involves drinking? I'm asking because I don't drink. please answer.

YES OMG PERFECTTT Soozee and Intern Leigh are more attuned to Korean culture than S&M, so to get them to think of things that might be viewed as abnormal outside of Korea could be interesting!!
There is also a all-you-can-drink cocktail bar in Hongdae. It's decently priced and super tasty drinks. One of my favorite shops
Lol I love the captions for your videos xD
I'm on my iPod right now... When I tried to open the video in TH-cam it wouldn't play, but when I opened it in Safari from the EYK website it worked fine...
martina you look amazing in this video! Love your hair here! :)
Martina! Your hair is gorgeous!!!! I love it. :)
I'm glad TL;DR's are in your main channel now ^w^

Just watched this video on an iPhone and it worked perfectly fine.
I LOVE your hair Martina!!!!! It's so pretty!!!! I wish I had your hair!!!!

I always get good feelings to my country from u guys♥ love u
I lived in Korea as a child. After living in Wisconsin and learning how to drink like a champion, I need to return to Korea and try my hand at this.
Oh gawwwd Simon! I was watching on my phone with earphones and everytime you said "DRANK" my head kinda almost exploded everytime XD
8.38 Martina to Simon: You're boring! Go!
Love the cute voice. Oh and love the Junsu 'Intoxicated' impersonation too, hahahaha

Simon, and Martina, have you guys ever seen this blog site blackoutkorea? It is so funny, being that they take pics of drunk people.
How come the video isn't working on for me on my iPod or my computer?!
I'm having issues watching on my s4. Must be the mobile version of TH-cam not working.
Something interesting about Soju is that the shots for Soju are made so each bottle contains 7 shots. So if you have a party of a number other than a multiple of 7, there will always be some left. So it almost forces you to buy another bottle.
How odd... when I click 720 the video is playing a black screen but works at 450
ahhh Korea is such a good country lol. People over there are so chill and laid back. Drinking over there is great too.
After all this time and all these comments...no one else had a good chuckle because of 3:06?
I'm truly tickled at this one.......LMAO!!!!!! I'm getting visuals of the drinking scenarios that you are talking about....DAMN!!!!!! Lol!!!!!
If you watch one of their recent livestream videos I think they mention it a few times there since they got so many sweets from fans that they can't eat yet ^^
Out of all of your hairstyles you look the prettiest in this one Martina!!! :D
OMG martina your hair is so pretty!!!!
Why doesn't it work on the iPhone, iPad or hd750?? Can you please explain more??
How is your reception in Korea? Has anyone been offended by anything you've said, or have you ever gotten hate mail (not just trolls on the interwebz)? Does it ever bring you down? I hope it doesn't, cause you guys are awesommmmmme. Love from Canada!!!
They already made a video for that. Go ahead and check their channel.
Same problem, videi won't play. :(
since when is TL;DR on the main channel? anyways.. Good Work! Always look forward to TL;DR's
When you two said that people do not usually drink in Korea I thought you two were crazy for a second.
Busan is located within the Gyeongsangdo province..
Hi, Simon and Martina! I have submitted English subtitles for this video in community contributions, if you could review them and put them up for the video, that would be awesome.~
