The reason koreans don't sweat as much is because they have the allele A of ABCC11 whille pretty much everywhere else except japan, korea and china have the allele G. Koreans have allele A so they don't sweat alot and when they do it dosen't smell alot and when you have allele G you sweat more and smell more. One way to see which one you is if you have flaky earwax you have allele A and if you have like moist or sticky earwax you have allele G.
I thought it was most east asian countries? So, Japan and China as well? But I can confirm the thing about the earwax! I think the allele appears in westerners as well, but it's far less common (about 1 in 50 people don't have smelly sweat 😒😒 so jelly)
***** I think its true lol!!! I'm an Asian....but it is really hard for me to sweat...i went to work out at the gym for 2 hours everyday( except saturday) and it literally took me a month to sweat... It also happened to my mom lol.....
Those with the variant EDAR370A actually possess more eccrine glands. As a result of possessing such high glandular density, one can easily imagine that the subsequent cooling effect of perspiration evaporation might be rendered more efficient; hence the ability to better maintain optimum operating temperature in a challenging environment (and giving the appearance of perspiring less).
I also noticed the really mini skirts thing when I see Koreans and I feel like its OK for them because they don't have butts (majority I'm using the majority here ). like if a Latina girl has a big butt right and we wear mini skirt it looks more vulgar or like more showy because we have something to show(again majority ).
BVpinkninja 100% im a latina living in Seoul and first, i can't even find clothes that fit curvy bodies; second, i feel more sexualized wearing revealing clothing because it reveals more of my curves. to us it's totally normal because we're more used to and accepting of body diversity, our beauty standards are different, amongst other cultural factors, but in korea you dong have that diversity or open-mindedness
@@gabooper I went to Seoul for 2 weeks and found the exact same thing.. I didn't wanna wear something other girls were wearing there e.g. tank top and shorts even cos I got junk in the trunks lol and people were looking... made me feel like I was being vulgar even though I was wearing the same thing as other girls who were a little slimmer.
When you played the wolf sound I thought it was Exo's wolf but I looked at the date, went to Exo's wolf and they just released it this year so... OMG Exo watch your videos! Hehehe
It would be funny if a group of foreigners women go around Korean streets wearing shirts that show their backs and shoulders plus pants, and film the peoples reaction lol
@MissCoconoodle That's a really really good point about height. 5'9 = long legs to show. Also, I have a bit of a bum so most mini skirts in Korea don't even cover my cheeks...if you know what I mean...hahaha! But I did manage to find a longer one that looks like a mini on me!
Can you make a TL;DR about saseang fans? I've read that they're really really crazy but why no one is doing anything to stop them? I'm also wondering about their parents. How can they let their dougther to go away to have a lifestyle like that? and what is the opinion of society on saseangs?
Hi! can you make a video of what to wear during the different seasons in Korea? I heard around spring, it gets a bit cold, and it even rains. Please help us with our wardrobe, what to bring and what to expect. Does it get hot in there? Thanks!
Guys even here in japan. Even it's winter. The place were covered with super cold ice. Some japanese girls especially teenagers wearing mini skirts and I was completely shocked. I ask my older sister why japanese girls doing that. She said it's fashion. Well, you can be fashionista or sexy without wearing a super mini skirt on winter right? And I can tell and it's really obvious that they're really freezing. Btw, i'm just a tourist here on japan and I'm from philippines.
Im from North America and despite the abnormally cold winter we've had, I managed to wear a miniskirt a couple of times. Im naturally cold from my circulation (genetics) and im also thick skinned (genetics). For me, it is a matter of wearing freshly warmed shorts under my skirts and stockings to above my knees. I have long legs so it still looks like i should be cold. Though muscle also helps keep you warm too so slim girls can possibly go without stockings. In all honesty, we half want to look good to others and half want to look good to ourselves. XD
sexy lower torso - acceptable sexy back - unacceptable ahahah seriously your tldrs are alway so much fun to watch and I end up learning a lot every time I watch it
LoL I am amazed by the same cold resistance you see on the Geordies in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Uk. Women with just a couple of small patches as a dress enjoying the snow on their skin on Saturday night!! Men swimming in the cold sea in November with their skin red by the cold (is the new tan...) and men walking by the streets in the wintery months in t-shirts and shorts! I wish I were as fit!
I live near Newcastle and it is sooo common to see, I also suffer from this insanity at times ( it’s mainly the young population). Ive seen people walking around in shorts and pilsoles while its snowing!
OMG! Here in Japan highschool students and older ladies will wear super mini skirts even in Winter! I mean when i first came to Japan, i was walking up the stairs to the train station and there is one highschool students infront of me who struggling to cover her ass, cause her underwear is showing while she is going up the stairs! that's how short the skirt they are wearing. And I was like WTF, why!? And in winter the ladies is wearing short short skirt or shorts with thin top, and they would act like they not cold but i know inside they were like "fck sht its freaking cold!"
I am a crazy gamer person so i would like to know is video gaming big in Korea and is the Ps3 or Ps4 or xbox 360 or xbox one BIG or do they have a different gaming system and are any games banned over there like battlefield 4 is banned in china? please i would love to know how there are over there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yah, alot of school girls (at least in ca), use little shoulder shrugs because of dress code in school, and its too hot often times to wear long sleeves. Same thing with short shorts and skirts, alot of girls wear tights or leggings underneath.
this was the first video i saw from you guys and up until now i'm still watching all your videos, thank you for teaching me so much about life in South Korea and there awesome music (not just kpop XD) thanks Simon and Martina!!!
Grace Galie They said in an earlier video from 2009 that they have to stock up on deodorant when they visit Canada because they could only find half sized bottles for seven dollars on the black market.
Grace Galie Yeah, I watched a more recent video yesterday that said deodorant is starting to pop up, but still not a huge selection. I don't remember what year that video was from, so it very well could be everywhere now! I've never been to Korea. I hope you had fun there! It looks like an awesome place to visit, though I don't know how I'd handle all the spicy food.
The thing I've noticed is you can show your upper body if your lower body is covered and vise versa, but never both half of your body showing too much skin.
I know I'm REALLY late to this vid, but OMG it would be lovely if North Americans understood that artists wear costumes on stage the same way Koreans do. After Lady Gaga started wearing legless leotards in her videos, there was a long period in which I couldn't get on the subway in NYC w/o seeing some 20 year old girl wearing shorts the length of panties. That ish is not OK. And it's had a lasting effect - I've seen so many hot pants this summer, and they're almost always on a girl who's in the middle of telling her friend "I don't know why all these guys are staring at me and saying creepy things."
a way to keep from your armpits from getting crotchity when you sweat is to spray white vinegar on there BEFORE you wash it... and the only way this works is if its the first time you wore it so I hope it helps :3
I went to korea in the summer and a couple of the Korean guys were always complaining how hot it was. They said they never get use to it, because it's only that hot a few months out of the year.
I totally understand what you guys are saying about the whole sweating thing... When I go to Taiwan it's sooo humid yet all the girls have their long hair down and perfectly straightened. No sign of sweat. While I'm sweating soooo much and I have to put my hair up in a pony tail :(
For me I wear really slim but warm shorts just shy of the skirt length and thigh high stockings but my legs are so long i wear them to above the knee and below the thigh. That part of my legs do get cold but not enough to discourage me from going outside. Also i usually will pair the skirt with an elbow length bell sleeve sweater and hand gloves. Im fine with that part of my arms being exsposed. Its all about optical illusions with clothes. XD that and building up tolerance and a warm tank under the top.
I think it's funny because in the USA, it's sexy to show your cleavage and low cuts in the front of your shirt, while I know TONS of women that walk around in halter tops and just no one cares...
The "giant poofy pillow" part made me burst into laughter because that's an accurate description of me in the winter!!! And when the air is really cold I cover my nose and mouth with a scarf and that makes me look like a giant poofy ninja!!! :))
Martina, I feel the same way. I only cover up my shoulders if I'm in a more traditional area....with like older people. Mostly I stopped caring. People are going to stare at me whether or not I wear risque or a parka.
@aangelfacexp I think it's because the condition of their hair and nails are like part of their uniform. They aren't allowed to dye their uniforms different colors, so they can't dye their hair either. They aren't supposed to paint things on their uniforms, so they can't paint their nails.
You know you have made it on TH-cam and in life when people start "complaining" that your videos are addicting and that they can't stop watching your videos (including me). XD
I like wearing shorts, short sleeves, and skirts in the winter. I can handle the cold, it's heat I cant stand. But I was wandering about the skirt thing as well for korean girls because I noticed in america girls tend to cover up.
About the miniskirts in Korea... Schools are actually considering upping the budget to put boards in front of desks, rather than lengthening skirts! It was an article on the BBC a few months back...
It's because it's more comfortable. I didn't know what the heck my Kr friends were talking about until I went out w/ a friend in monsoon season. She was in capris and I had shorts on. I was a little cold, but got used to it quickly with no damage except for some wet around my socks and my legs dried quickly whenever we were inside. My poor friend got drenched (mind you, we had umbrellas too) especially at the thighs and spent the rest of the day uncomfortable with her pants sticking to her legs.
@pskully yea I've seen that. but they're not spending money over it and it's not the school that gives shorter uniforms. the kids shorten it more frequently than past yrs
@DisneyStarsTube you have to think of it this way. they are probably a different culture then you are so how they dress and what they think is acceptable and what is not is going to be different then how you see or know it.
@LastRqss Japan is little bit more flexible ( if u r visiting Tokyo). Japanese really don't sweat at all.. I am Korean n I thought I kinda knew the level of not-sweating-at-all but Japan is totally different level.... It is hotter in Japan too
I love you guys so much . Like watching your videos make my day xD . It helps me also to learn what to do and what not to do in Korea , so when I move there I won't be completely lost
KTown in LA!!! There's alot of Koreans in Oahu too, asians naturally do not sweat or smell, no matter how warm it is. My bestie is Japanese and she never breaks out in a sweat when we're working out.
@BubblexSoapx well for foreigners (caucasians or people from western countries) they don't really care, but generally Koreans are very honest about telling you about weight. (unlike western cultures). Even your friends can tell you that you're chubby. it's just how it goes. Generally being overweight indicates in Korea that you don't take care of your body enough or you don't put in effort to stay healthy. For many plus sized people clothes are hard to find.
Man bra... man apron... we've got em all! And you are so right about Korean girls wearing miniskirts in the winter.. there's a ton of international Korean students at my school and they walk around in any type of weather with miniskirts and high heels. Don't know how they do it!
I lived in both Korean (1 & 1/2 years) and Japan (3 years) and in both countries guys loved me. Like, I don't know what it is. My friends call me asian-man sugar. It's that bad. I have a friend who is in Japan now (I'm back in the states) and she has the same reaction. NO problem getting Japanese men at all. So really, it just depends on your facial features and size (both my friend and I are skinny).
@PoKemOnUs5gUrU - from what i've heard the ministry for gender equality and family values or whatever it's called, is usually pretty slow in going through all the different stuff, so for example beast's "on rainy days" has been out for a while but only just got banned, so hyuna will probably get banned in a month or two
Martina, cap sleeves. they don't care if your armpit is exposed, only the shoulder. I wear a lot of shirts in the summer that cover the top of the shoulder but not the pit.
Immaturity stems from not accepting or tolerating other peoples' views. I act matronly because that is what I think you need. Your apology? One line after a whole paragraph of 'friendly' sentences that are nothing less than patronizing. This is a debate, not an insult fest. The fact that you consider 'honey' insulting also proves my point; you have different opinions from me, but I don't really care. "It's tolerable. I'll leave it alone." I never degraded you. I only debated your points.
@gisart :0 I wouldn't say so because of school restrictions. That's why you're sorta surprised when you look at kpop idols during their trainee or before their debut days. They look very plain without the hair.. well of course their faces are amazing but their hair is just as normal as everyone else's.
One secret to not sweating a lot is to not exercise a lot. Not because exercise can get your sweaty, but frequent exercise get your body to respond faster when the body temperature rises.
So are sleeveless things just off the table no matter what? I'm going to Korea this summer and need to have a couple of formal-ish things to wear, but all of my nice dresses are sleeveless. It's not like tank top cut, just like a regular dress but without sleeves. Is that okay? Do I need to put a shrug with it? And for just being out and about on a hot day, is showing the shoulders okay if the top/dress has a high neck?
Thanks guys, cultural differences fascinate me and I often wonder where they come from. It's great to get to know a bit more about Korea through your videos! And of course you always make me giggle too woohoo ^^ *hugs you both*
@lyren3941 it is...? because im korean and we mostly focus in our own kpop music generally.. actually, i think i know many of my korean friends who dont even know who justin timberlake is.
I watched Rainbow_ A (MV) and I don't really get why it was deleted from TV, because of the stomach showing stuff I guess but I mean, it's not like Rania _ Dr Feelgood (MV) It's funny the different perception we have depending on where we live.
@SinnieZhao they think of foreigners as exceptions, like always, they don't expect foreigners to follow their culture. but just bring some shirts, skirts and dresses just in case
The reason koreans don't sweat as much is because they have the allele A of ABCC11 whille pretty much everywhere else except japan, korea and china have the allele G. it does appear in almost all races but how common it is varies. all koreans have itand almost everybody in japan and china too but not everybody
Yeah, but they still sweat, it's more about modest and fashion
***** I think its true lol!!! I'm an Asian....but it is really hard for me to sweat...i went to work out at the gym for 2 hours everyday( except saturday) and it literally took me a month to sweat...

OMG 3:21 wolf intro
Before EXO even debuted!!
Man, you guys have NO idea how much you guys make me happy when you talk about JYJ in your videos.
Yah, alot of school girls (at least in ca), use little shoulder shrugs because of dress code in school, and its too hot often times to wear long sleeves. Same thing with short shorts and skirts, alot of girls wear tights or leggings underneath.
yea i just found them too and love learning about korean culture!!
Jonghyun's lower back reverse mid drift in Lucifer was pretty sexy :P
You are so right! I have never seen such mini-dresses like when i was in korea.
So what you're saying is that fashionable Korean women are Aes Sedai?
You guys always make me laugh so much! Everyone is sleeping and I burst out laughing at Simons mirror mirror impersonation!!
So what about Lee Hyori's open back top that she wore for her performance with Big Bang?
I don't think that's as bad; generally what they're iffy about is stomach and chest areas, or so I've heard.
Martina your hair is so awesome! It looks so pretty on you!
When Martina said 40 degrees, I live in America and we use fahreinheit, I was like that's cold though, but then I realized Canada uses Celcius XD
this was the first video i saw from you guys and up until now i'm still watching all your videos, thank you for teaching me so much about life in South Korea and there awesome music (not just kpop XD) thanks Simon and Martina!!!
Has this changed since you posted this? (4 years ago, which you probably know lol)

At least they sell deodorant in Korea! Itʻs $10 for a sample size in Japan, and I only started seeing just that this year. The gym is a nightmare,...
Grace Galie They said in an earlier video from 2009 that they have to stock up on deodorant when they visit Canada because they could only find half sized bottles for seven dollars on the black market.
Last I was there (2014) they had them at Watsons! :3
Grace Galie Yeah, I watched a more recent video yesterday that said deodorant is starting to pop up, but still not a huge selection. Is this the girl that got judged hard af by that one kpop idol when she said “I like pink” 😂😂
+Ashlee Parrott why??o.o
+Ashlee Parrott ah ok thanks
a way to keep from your armpits from getting crotchity when you sweat is to spray white vinegar on there BEFORE you wash it... and the only way this works is if its the first time you wore it so I hope it helps :3
"skanky" suuuuuure thats the word you wanted to use ;)
Love the fact that I'm so obsessed about EXO that I thought that was a 'Wolf' but then, I saw the date, and was like, no.
junsu's apron lol
I went to korea in the summer and a couple of the Korean guys were always complaining how hot it was. They said they never get use to it, because it's only that hot a few months out of the year.
About having Rainbow' A being taken down from TV. Its silly all theu did was lift their shirts, girl groups do worst things these days
I totally understand what you guys are saying about the whole sweating thing... When I go to Taiwan it's sooo humid yet all the girls have their long hair down and perfectly straightened. No sign of sweat. While I'm sweating soooo much and I have to put my hair up in a pony tail :(
Waht?? But my shoulders and upper arms are toned as hell :P
For me I wear really slim but warm shorts just shy of the skirt length and thigh high stockings but my legs are so long i wear them to above the knee and below the thigh. So glad I found you guys! What a fab set up/style/format you have. I'm subscribing :)
I love how often in videos Simon calls legs the "lower torso." (Old video, I know, I know.)
love how you put changmin and junsu in this video hahaha, so hilarious! XD
Xiah Junsu my favorite!!! JYJ/TVXQ5!!!
simon and martina, who are your favorite kpop artists????
The "giant poofy pillow" part made me burst into laughter because that's an accurate description of me in the winter!!! And when the air is really cold I cover my nose and mouth with a scarf and that makes me look like a giant poofy ninja!!! :))

I really LOVE you guys, you always bring me with surprises!
JUNSU & CHANGMIN IN THE HOUSE WITH MARTINA & SIMON!
WOW! ^^
I love Martina's makeup in this video!!!

TLDR's are excellent !!!

I LOVE the little drawings you guys do ^.^
love your pink hair martina!
You guys leave me rollin' on the floor with laughter!
MAN-APRON- IT'S A MAPRON- OMG.
that hair is fabulous
I love you guys so much . Like watching your videos make my day xD . It helps me also to learn what to do and what not to do in Korea , so when I move there I won't be completely lost
I'm addicted to your videos....
@salotenisi It was "Mirror Mirror" by 4minute :)
KTown in LA!!! There's alot of Koreans in Oahu too, asians naturally do not sweat or smell, no matter how warm it is. My bestie is Japanese and she never breaks out in a sweat when we're working out.

@TheGrilNextStreet They're magical!
Man bra... man apron... we've got em all! And you are so right about Korean girls wearing miniskirts in the winter.. there's a ton of international Korean students at my school and they walk around in any type of weather with miniskirts and high heels. Don't know how they do it!
OMG! :DD been waiting so much! :]
@mjstar27 in winter it goes up to -6C in seoul. which is pretty cold to wear mini-skirts. its cold due to the serbian winds...
@Kamikazu08 BC is not cold at all, in my opinion, I live in Alberta, and it's like ice age cold here! Too cold to go out, but we're used to it now.
This has definitely become my new favorite segment. ^^
Already got that answered, but thank you bery much.
You guys are awesome! Thank you for your videos. :)
@Hikarisetsuna um Korea still has larger cup sizes than Japan btw.
Thanks guys, cultural differences fascinate me and I often wonder where they come from. It's great to get to know a bit more about Korea through your videos! And of course you always make me giggle too woohoo ^^
*hugs you both*
@lyren3941 it is...? because im korean and we mostly focus in our own kpop music generally.. actually, i think i know many of my korean friends who dont even know who justin timberlake is.
I watched Rainbow_ A (MV) and I don't really get why it was deleted from TV, because of the stomach showing stuff I guess
but I mean, it's not like Rania _ Dr Feelgood (MV)
It's funny the different perception we have depending on where we live.
I enjoy you guys glad I found this. Your funny and classy I love it!
@SinnieZhao they think of foreigners as exceptions, like always, they don't expect foreigners to follow their culture. but just bring some shirts, skirts and dresses just in case
I've learned so much already! Thanks for exposing me to korean culture. I look forward to watching more! *subscribed*
was 2:45 a vague mean girls reference? hmmm....
