I'll Give You the Sun, The Scorpio Races, The Book Thief, the HIs Dark Materials trilogy, and The Raven Cycle are what comes to mind when I think my favorite YA books. Some of the best writing I've ever read of any age range across those books -
I absolutely love the Truly Devious series too! The mix of investigative elements and mysterious twists is so captivating-I just couldn’t put it down once I started. Thanks for sharing your favorite book list!
I still love YA fantasy. When I was a young adult, I was already reading adult fantasy lol, but I also read YA. I still read both. I can't really do YA contemporary anymore though. But YA fantasy is great.
Here are some YA books you should read: Rangers Apprentice by John Flanagan, The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson, The Chaos of Stars by Kiersten White, A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray, Renegades by Marissa Meyer, The Forgotten Book by Mechthild Gläser, and A Forgery of Roses by Jessica S. Olson. Let me know if any of these interest you and you want to read them.
I grew up in a fairly conservative family and wasn't really allowed to read a lot of fantasy when I was a teenager. I did read fantasy as a really young child, but it wasn't until I was in my early 20's that I started reading fantasy. I love reading YA fantasy and middle grade fantasy and I'm in my late 40's. I really need to read Truly Devious and Strange the Dreamer. They've been on my tbr forever. I read The Thief series last year and absolutely fell in love with it. The audiobooks are amazing.
I also love the Raybearer duology. I recommend Skin of the Sea duology by Natasha Bowen, which is a myth-inspired fantasy about mermaids and gods. Spin of Fate by A.A. Vora is fantasy with interesting world building and a "morality" system, and Snowglobe by Soyoung Park is a translated dystopian novel about the entertainment industry in a frozen world.
I'm about to start Skyward and the fourth book was released. I just finished reading The Gilded One by Namina Forna the first book in the Deathless series. My daughter and I loved it and ran right out to got the next book.
*POTENTIAL SPOILERS* I recommend Strange the Dreamer to EVERYONE it’s so gorgeous. I’ve had Muse of Nightmares sitting on my bookshelf for years and haven’t picked it up because the first book devastated me. First time in my adult reading life that a book made me cry. But you’ve convinced me to make it my next read!
Oh, most of these are in my tbr 😂 Except Sanderson he's just not an author for me anymore and I read Strange the dreamer which was a mid 3/5 stars. Didn't connect with it. But I really need to get to the others! 🩷
@somatoes4667 Oh I'm gonna get cancelled 😅 But whatever. I just have fundamental issues with his writing, his style, his character work, and the way his mormon worldview leaks into his work. I used to love his early works (Mistborn, Elantris) but then I read Stormlight 1 and I started seeing issues everywhere, retroactively too with books I already read. Basically, there's no aspect of his writing that makes it worth it for me, personally. I understand why others like it, I understand the pull his books have, but the veil has been lifted for me. Granted, I haven't read anything by him for 4+ years so I can't know if his writing has improved drastically, but like I said, my issues with his work are fundamental aspects so I doubt it will ever be for me again. (I'm also older now, so less impresionable and much more critical of what I read). I don't even like his worldbuilding, which he's highly regarded for 😂 His books just make me angry now. (I also don't want to support his mormon teething and by extension anti-LGBTQ+ discriminatory initiatives by buying his books. He doesn't need it anyway, he's rich enough.)
@@nitzeart Thank you for sharing. I understand where you’re coming from and your feelings are completely valid. Just a moot point however, Sanderson has openly discussed his support for the LGBTQ+ community and has also mentioned he has and will always vote for their rights. While I agree religion can often damage the community, we can’t always point fingers and blame those who actually want to help us even if they’re religious.
@somatoes4667 Yeah, but he's not JUST religious, peoples' religious beliefs are not inherently problematic. He can SAY whatever he wants, but as long as he's part of that discriminatory organization and actively gives them money, his words and representation feel empty. There's a disconnect there. If he truly cared enough to make meaningful change, about the damage his "religion" has on marginalized people, he would leave the institution and practice separately. Now, I'm not saying we should or can force people to leave their religion, and I'm not saying he's playing both sides maliciously or it's a PR stunt, but you can't have it both ways. He wants queer fans or he wants to keep supporting anti-queer agendas. They're exclusionary, I'm afraid. What he's doing currently is hypocritical and I just can't be bothered to wait and see how "progressive" or accepting he becomes in another 17 years--that's how long it took him to become accepting of queer people. I don't clap for the bare minimum decency, especially from rich people. So he can keep his fans and I don't have to read his books. (I can't stand the Mormon preaching in his weiting anyway 😅) I prefer to support other, better writers.

Raybearer is so good! I recently found the duology in a little free library, what a find!!

Love the Scythe trilogy ... and also I took many suggestions from this video!!! Directly to TBR🥳
I really think Regan should give The Raven Cycle a try (again?) It has everything she likes, beautiful writing, found family, emotional.
This was like a walk down memory lane. Loved all these series/books. ❤
Read the Queen's Thief series based on your rec and loved it soooooo much! Just added some of these to my TBR 😊
This has bumped up the Strange the Dreamer series on my TBR
I just finished the first book and loved it!
It's by far the best YA I've ever read

Perfect timing ⏱️ I’ve been getting back into YA 🎉

Raybearer is so good! I always recommend Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor for fans of it as well
It's the video for me. Don't read YA as much as I used too. But recently I surprise myself enjoying Grisha, carry on and night school.
Love these recs ❤
All of these are on my TBR and yet I still haven’t picked them up 😅
If you liked skyward you should read his other YA sci-fi called Steelheart. It is so good as well.
Talia Hibberts Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute YA romance is so good! Highly recommend :)
Loving your pumpkin co-host...👀🎃👀
Strange the Dreamer is a 10000/10 book.
Hunger Games is one of my all time favs😍
Not sure if it's ya...but the perxy jackson series is amazing
I loved "A good girls guide to murder"! Some parts were cringy but overall it was super fast paced and fun.
Great video!
I’ve read these all!🎉❤
Just a heads up: skyward is a quartet not a trilogy ^^
Please read Bloodguard ❤❤❤
Seems like this video was made for me
I'm first 😳😳

curious to know why sanderson is not for you anymore
@@somatoes4667yeah me too! I love Brandon Sanderson
