    I enjoy your videos. The 500 XL models had very nice sporty interiors that really set them apart from the other Galaxie models. I though the red and white lights in the doors were super cool. The vertical stacked headlights were quite a thing for a number of years, used on Ford, Fairlane, Pontiac, Cadillac, Monte Carlo, Comet, Plymouth, Cizeta V16T, Riviera, Lincoln, AMC/Rambler, El Camino, Facel Vega and some others, even some recent Chevy trucks. Headlight design continues to be a significant part of the face of an automobile, and I think the vertical lights were cool. The Pyrex glass headlight covers on this 1965 500 XL are a surprise feature.

    My first car, 65 Galaxy 500 Hardtop with the 289. Three on the TREE! I got it in 1985, a hand me down from my Mom. IT didnt look anything like this.. What a beautiful car.

    Thanks for the feature. This is the car I dreamt about when I was probably 13 or 14. I still have all the ads I collected out of Life and NatGeo, and even have a factory shop manual and the Dealer brochure. Alas, I never did get one. Cheers.

    Classic car now,& '83 my dad bought his for $150.00.Not that it wasn't a good car at the time,what and 150 bucks was actually a few dollars back then. He passed away in March of 2017 and our picture we gave at the memorial is of when he had the engine and trans up on a tri pod in our yard.It served us well a while,but at the time nobody gave us any compliments.A kid from school asked where we get "all those old cars"

    Ford really did a good by putting an interconnecting hose on the two vacuum diaphragms to pull in the secondaries together. I tuned a few of these type of dual quads and it certainly makes tuning a lot easier.

    I bought a 1966 Galaxie 500 XL in 1970. After I had owned it for a while I noticed that it said "Hi" in big letters embossed on the center of the firewall. I thought that was odd, then I noticed that all full-size Fords from 65-67 said "Hi" on the firewall. You can sort of see it in this video when you are showing the two four barrel carbs.
    Where does the name XL come from? One story is that when the first XLs came out in 1962, Ford was advertising its cars as "The Lively Ones", and so the XL stood for Extra Lively.
    Thanks for sharing this stunning XL.

      +Michael Wineman ; Traditionally it was an option upgrade to sporty but not luxury as such.

    The "Quiet as a Rolls Royce" slogan was specifically marketed for the LTD version of this car.

    I believe the 427 Galaxie would have had 15" wheels; not 14" as you stated.

    Mike Kouri is correct, the 65 Galaxies had 15' wheels. A note about the passenger headrest; I had a 65 XL for two years before I realized the passenger seat reclined, so when you were in it and reclined it you needed to run the headrest 'up' to support your head.

    Big boxy everything was boxy then and looked great unlike today. Sounds like you read many magazines on our Galaxies lol. I actually raced a 66 running 13s in a warmed over 390 and was a nice driver. This car is a trailer queen unfortunately.

    The videos look great and are always produced very well........., however, I am consistently let down by the lack of good engine sounds!!! I mean, you talk about the lift and duration of the cam, but we really don't get to hear it. Com'on guys!!!!

    • @joewhiteyipee
      @joewhiteyipee 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think "reversible" means that the keys are cut identically on both sides for convenience, I guess.

      +jason briggs yes. my 65 mustang had those keys, comes in handy at night.

    • @buddywayne1
      @buddywayne1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It simply means that you can turn the keys either way. Ford still uses them, as does Toyota, I believe.

      Uhhh dude? Rare car...I'm thinking that the driver might be wanting to keep his job longer than the day this video was shot...see my point? Bigger burnout might= better spot in the unemployment line...can't really blame the guy for wanting to preserve the car....and...his job....kwim?

    • @sykwookiee
      @sykwookiee 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +sykwookiee ok...I went back and watched the burnout again...you're right...burnout was rather anemic...please forgive my previous outburst as I was clearly out of my mind, or off my meds...lol!

    They don't drive these cars enough to pull them out every two years and do weak and tentative burnouts. You ever notice how they baby tend some of them? Rod the piss out of it and see where it fails, I say. Then you know what your dealing with. The hell with this trailer queen crap. Leno would have his people get into that engine, and go through it from top to bottom. Cars are meant to be driven, not just looked at. I love the 427 Ford but that engine needs to be looked into. No shame in that, it's 50 years old.

      +Johnnyc drums After watching all the vids over the last couple years it seems to me that one of the two drivers is almost always more aggressive than the other. Whether or not he is intentionally trying to induce failures just to "see where it fails"... we don't know.
