The 427’s were rare by 1966. The 427’s were never a favorite of Ford Motor Company because it was more difficult to produce than other engines. The 428 was sort of a replacement but the 460/429 was definitely on the drafting table by 1966-67 so the 427’s were being put in vehicles to get inventory down.
I owned a 7 Liter 1966 Ford convt. it had the 428 -4 speed with some work done on it. The 7 liter got 20 mpg on the road and 16 in town. I had all of the option on it what a joy to drive and yes to stomp the Chevy and GTO, etc. The 1966 7 Liter Convt. was a great car to say least. Wish I had it back
Love the 65-67 Ford full size cars. The 65 Galaxie 427 is my favorite but the the 66-67 7 Liter's with the 428(especially with a 4 speed)were beautiful cars and were smooth and quiet but still would go like hell. The 427 was basically a race engine de-tuned just enough to be streetable but the 428 was a great street engine and had plenty of balls when you needed it to. I only would've opted for the 427 if I planned on drag racing the car. Otherwise the 428 or even the HiPo 390 4 barrel were plenty good enough
Ours was a 1966 7-Litre 2-door painted in Arcadian Blue. She was a 4-speed, loaded with every available, power everything, locks, windows, even stereo 8-track (accept AC) and was a 428/4-speed. The Reese trailer hitch use to scrap the asphalt when did pulled a hole shot. She was the true muscle car with full luxury in our neighborhood. All the 1970s muscle cars in our town were only flashy with their graphic strips/etc and their "smogged" engines, de-tuned for emissions and lower compression ratios.
Hahhahah!! That car wouldn't get 20 mpg if you pushed it off a cliff!!!....please.....that 428 gets 11mpg if you grandma it.... and floor it, you can literally see the gas needle drop..
I actually had a 66 7 litre 428 convertible. It was a 4 speed red car. Few were made in convertible, fifty total including hardtops. This car had a Lincoln rearend and police pursuit suspension factory installed. They made them in automatic transmission, but much more common.
Wife's uncle has 2 of the 66 7 liters with 428. One is a convertible and one was a fastback. Always loved sunday evenings cruisin the dub in Abbotsford BC
My dad tried to buy this car in 1966, but we ended up with a galaxy 500XL convertible. A friend of mine in high school who lived a half mile up the road bought the 7 Litre .
I rebuilt a 1966 Ford Custom 2 door, made in Montreal. I painted it Grabber blue, custom black interior, floor shifter. I never thought it was a great looking car back then, but now.......oh yeah!
Looks like a plush luxury car...sounds like a Holman Moody built stock car. That is one mean Ford and I'm a Mopar guy. The Ford R-Code 427 cars are my favorite muscle cars ever that weren't built by Chrysler... particularly the 63 1/2 R-Code Galaxie and 66-67 R-Code Fairlane. The Ford 427 had success in basically every kind of racing you can imagine...NASCAR, NHRA Drag Racing... Even the GT-40's that placed 1-2-3 in the 1966 24 hr LeMans Race were powered by the 427. My favorite American production big block V8 ever that wasn't made by Chrysler...followed closely by the Chevy ZL1 427 and Pontiac 421 Super Duty
True. Plus the 427 was big bore, short stroke. The 428 was small bore, long stroke. Both FE series big blocks but that's pretty much all they had in common.
@Keith Coppage The joy about the FE is that the castings varied but the 428 was the economy engine which didn't break through the cylinder bore castings with its smaller bore. The 427 was a bigger 406, with a tendancy to be scrapped when bored. Ford made it a Le Mans winner though. And NASCAR, and SCCA. And Daytona. The so called 425 hp 427 and the 335 or 345 hp 428...were so very different. The sound, the vibe, it's like the R code was on acid. The 428 and the later Cobra Jet...just weren't the same. All the 427s were advanced swiss Cheese who took USA Cleveland Engine Plant 1 stuff to Europe and slaughtered everyone with Shock and Awe. The 428...just Pizzas. Maybee with all the topping and extras, but just Pizzas. Dispite having no semi Hemi or polyspheric heads or triple Cam SOHC's s or huge bore spacings and canted valves or Cross Rams or lineage to some kind of Top Fuel engine...it busted b@||s everywhere it went. Because it was three times the engine the 428, 429s 460's or Super Duty Truck engines were. Who uses an overhead valve wedge 7 liter V8 to eat Ferrari's, Porsche's, Vettes Mopar Hemis and GTO's and Catalina 421 Tripower 2+2's. The Side Oiler was the toughest Ford engine, with the toughest gearbox and 9 inch duff in only the toughest cars. Vale the 427!
No surprise that this would be rare. The convertible option and 427 should have pushed this up to the 4500 + dollar range for 67, which was mega expensive then.
The GTO was a mid-sized car (Tempest/LeMans) with the 389 V8, while the 7 Litre was a full-sized Galaxie body with the 427/428. I believe a more direct competitor to this car would be the Pontiac Catalina with the 2+2 package which came with Pontiac's 421 V8. In addition, Ford only sold a few of these 7 Litre cars (even with the more sedate 428) while Pontiac sold a ton of GTOs. Great piece on a great automobile!
I had one, way back. Rag top 4 speed, leather seats. Colour sort of a burnt orange red. Wish I had it back. Yes on a hwy it got decent mileage, may be a little less than 20 but close. This is back in about '70.
@The Ender Dragon Yes all that and Amen Sir. But times it by two. It's 6:32 to 6:36 for Me. The Two Wheel Peal with the scatto scattered twin pipe 427 FE Hi Comp engine note. Hard Edged like no other.....
@Bill Hill K, CAR DEALERS BACK THEN WOULD NOT KEEP ANY CARS ON THEIR LOT THAT HAD ANY MORE THAN 50 THOUSAND MILES, MAINLY BECAUSE THAT WAS IT, JUNK. THE CARS BACK THEN JUST DIDN'T LAST AS LONG AS THE NEW ONES DO NOW. THERE MIGHT BE MORE PLASTIC NOW BUT THE RUNNING GEAR IS MORE DEPENABLE NOW THAN IT EVER HAS BEEN. I'VE WORKED ON CARS FOR 50 YEARS I SHOULD KNOW !
Alex Pavchinski the Brothers are very rich dudes with intelligence and brains to know how to enjoy being rich ! These guys rock .... I Find it so poorly out of imagination when rich dude buy new import cars like Mercedes just to show status ... Brothers Rock restoring and preserving all these Amazing muscle cars we dreamed when we're kids
Riding my bike on the streets of Dearborn Mich I saw this convertible car in red parked, sitting there looking bad as hell..The 7 litre badge on the trunk..I knew it was something special..
MMMMMMMMM, nice piece, I had 66 Galaxie with 289, used it as a winter car late 70's when I had 1st generation Camaro'sI didn't know 66 had discs available?
A close friend and I co owned a 66 Galaxy convertible when we were in high school together . 390 powered her. A hail storm Ended that for us. FORTUNATELY a collector from B.C came and got it. OH how I miss that car. The GIRLS it attracted, WHOA.
This year was my choice of Ford body style for the 63-69 large sedan Gal and LTD . The Country squire look nicer for the 1965 year because I liked the tail lights and a narrow section for the wood trim compared to the 1966 . A very rare 7 litre is the 1967 Country squire with bucket seats and a 4-spd top loader. The buyer insisted on a 4spd 428 so he got his choice while the wife got her station wagon for the family. He sent a letter to Lee Iaccoca explaining why , FORD agreed to build it and it was the only 428 4spd Squire for 1967. VIN 7U74Q143183 74=6+4 passenger deluxe wagon but it had bucket seat as a 5+4 passenger. The Q=428 4 bl .
The 66 Country Squire w as much better looking than the anemic looking 65. The 66 was an inch and a half wider and sported the premium die cast grille shared with the XL, LTD and 7 Litre models. Full wheel covers became std equipment. The dual facing rear seat models came with power drum brakes as standard.
@butchtropic it's amazing that they are able to find these cars. And not just any classics these are 1 of 1's 1of 50's etc etc. With unlimited $ you can have it all I guess.
You can't make a 427 with a 428 . The bore size on a 427 would be in the water jacket on the 428 . 427 , big bore , short stroke .Plus (like someone else said) cross bolt mains . I still love the show and this car .
Man you are cool , you know things you talk about , you tell us history of Muscle cars , big block racing engines and you've got good taste , I love this channel and I had just subscribed ! This Galaxie is insanely gorgeous ! G'day from Down Under
Saw one of these in an auto wrecking yard in Wilmington California. Was looking for some parts for my 61 Ford country sedan. In 1971 the Galaxy had the forest green. And a 428. The owner of the auto wrecking yard owned the 7 liter. He said he'd sell it for $4,000 remember that was back in 1971. But he asked me what are you trying to do resell it and make more money? I said no that we are a Ford family and we would like to have it in the family and we own Stock in Ford motor company. Well I was just a young kid out of high school had no money.
The way is ... These factory wheels with hubcaps and skinny white or red in some walls tyres .... Man these designers back in the 60's and 70's they were pro .... They had taste , these designers and engineering were true car racers they knew what they were doing ... These designers where born on the back seat of a racing car and they first toy were a wrench and greaser oil gun! Back then they need to do things under the Henry fords lll radar , do things like secret and fight for the B.S. To get they idea approved , these guys single handed fought for they vision of what people wanted to drive , bless those guys that had to use they imagination using same parts of different cars to create others cars cs the rule was saving on parts tooling , same windshield , same most interchangeable bits and pieces and they made magic with , Nowadays so much hi tech , computer 3 D all this things and no creativity , today is the classic " All hats .... No cattle "
Back when there were packages but so much was Ala carte, and even more was available through the parts dept and shop. Those were the days 😀 now you get the choices of packages and it's like the daily special menu at the restaurant....NO SUBSTITUTIONS!
The warning about keeping your windows closed above speed of 120 mph is so that the headliner could fold down on the occupants heads while driving at those speeds which could cause and accident with the headliner pressing down so hard on the driver's head.
My dad had the baby blue with white top and white seat with blue carpet 390 3 speed on the tree convertible left east TN 6 pm I was 7 years old and I made it to the Mississippi River until I fell asleep in the front floorboard 4 kids 2 adults woke up in Dallas Texas 6am 12 hrs of pure joy love that car but I think the 65 is nicer because the front end is sleeker in my opinion grew up and bought a 67 galaxy for my first car and ended up owning 13 galaxies and 2 67 LTDs one with the 428 talk about fast 130 mph with half the gas petal left sold that car because I figured I’d get killed in it lol
I remember in shop class in junior high school we used to argue Ford and Chevey, the Chevy guys said this car looked like a box, yeah I guess it does . 😆
one of the few cars that could benefit amazingly from three inch exhaust.and cold air induction, be like another 100 hp imho,, course wouldnt do it but probably knock two seconds off the ET,
OK, love the show and it's good to see the big mean Fords, but what about the Mercs? I had a 4-speed full console loaded bucket seat Merc S-55 that was one of my all time fav cars. Sort of the one I wish I still had. Any of those in the Bros Collection?
Correction; the Pontiac GTO was NOT a competitor to the 7 litre because the GTO was a midsized car, like a Fairlane. For Pontiac the 7 litre competitor would be the Bonneville or Catalina body.
My Dad had the 390 V8 and C6 Automatic Transmission Transmission Galaxie 500 Convertible But took out the C6 and Updated with a 5 Speed Automatic came out of a 2006 Mustang and put in a 5.0L Coyote V8 as well with a Whipple Charger that gives it 775 HP AND 645 LB FT OF TORQUE
Looks to me that someone added (incorrectly) the cubic inch displacement call-outs.I would suspect that the mufflers on that car were replicas on the outside but incorrect on the inside. That is they don’t have the same construction (number of baffles/internal pipes etc.In fact it sounded like a set of cheap glass packs .I doubt Ford would’ve stooped that low.
Yeah, I thought it was interesting that the word was also spelled correctly as LITRE, and not the now, much bastardised LITER, which is profoundly wrong and obvious. I have to say, this is just beautiful. With disc brakes and power brakes and AC, it sounds ideal. How does it handle, though? In all honesty? Coz I want one now.
When you are comparing cars and manufacturers, please be accurate in those comparisons. To even show this car in the "same" class is sacrilegious to both cars. The proper comparison would have been more like the 1966 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 421/4sp.. You've done this on many of your videos. Educate the right way, or don't even attempt it. Having said that, thanks for bringing this generation of cars to the masses. Keep it up!
Umm, just ONE more thing 🤔 Holy Canoli 🦇man! 😳😲 If I'm not mistaken, weren't those front seats either available on or from the T-Bird of the same year..?
Having bought a 66 7 Liter model in 68, one of the 247 made with a 4 speed, The car came with front disk brakes, the awesome XL interior with great bucket seat, and with a teak wood and aluminum steering wheel with a thin layer of teak across the lower dash and low restriction exhaust that SOUNDED NOTHING LIKE THIS RAGGEDY SOUNDING CAR. THE 428'S HAD A SLIGHTLY LONGER STROKE AND IT DID HAVE 345 HP,(UNDER-RATED).
Never knew 427 powered 7 Litres were that rare. And he has BOTH of them! What a lucky guy.
The 427’s were rare by 1966. The 427’s were never a favorite of Ford Motor Company because it was more difficult to produce than other engines. I have a 66 convertible xl500 black interior console automatic C6 390 Blacktop and stuff

No way that car got 20 mpg. A 200 ci Falcon or Mustang, maybe, but not a 428 Galaxie.
Hahhahah!! That car wouldn't get 20 mpg if you pushed it off a cliff!!!....please.....that 428 gets 11mpg if you grandma it.... and floor it, you can literally see the gas needle drop..
I have a 1968 convertible 4 speed 390 with 3:50-1 rear posi...Blue over black...LOVE IT!!!
That engine sounds amazing. I want that as my alarm clock sound.
If your neighbor had one, it could be.
Most beautiful full-size car of the 1960s - '66 Ford Galaxies. Mid-'60s Fords were best looking cars of the decade!
I love 64 Galaxies and owned a 65 four door for a while have a 60 F100 now but 63 Impalas are equally incredible looking cars.
@@simeonorive145 '62 Bubble-top Impala & '65 Impala - especially the big coupe were incredibly beautiful cars!!!
I really liked 1969 plymouth furys
GTOs
They were nice, I like the Pontiacs too.
So awesome to watch this video! My dad had a '66 Country Squire, and thought 1966 was a fabulous design.
Absolutely gorgeous ! Even the color is hot. Could it get any better? I think NOT!!!
one of my all time favorite cars. thanks. great color combo
One of the nicest cars I've ever seen you guys show
Very nice! I like Chevy and Mopar but it's cool to see that one of the rarest cars of this era is a Ford Galaxy
"Galaxie"
My favorite love watching this episode, what a pure joy it must be to drive that 4 speed monster!
I actually had a 66 7 litre 428 convertible. It was a 4 speed red car. Few were made in convertible, fifty total including hardtops. This car had a Lincoln rearend and police pursuit suspension factory installed. They made them in automatic transmission, but much more common.
I learned a lot about cars from you. Great demonstration. Nicely documented.
Wife's uncle has 2 of the 66 7 liters with 428. One is a convertible and one was a fastback. Always loved sunday evenings cruisin the dub in Abbotsford BC
Dream car. Ford's finest
WOW what a beauty love the big car with a 4 speed idea to bad they don t make them like that any more 427 FORD ONE OF MY FAVORITE ENGINES THANKS
Gotta love the “family cars” of the ‘60s 😄
Looks like a plush luxury car...sounds like a Holman Moody built stock car. That is one mean Ford and I'm a Mopar guy. The Ford R-Code 427 cars are my favorite muscle cars ever that weren't built by Chrysler... particularly the 63 1/2 R-Code Galaxie and 66-67 R-Code Fairlane. The blocks ARE different...the 427s have cross-bolted mains with four bolts, while the 428 has two-bolt mains like the 352s and 390s.
The 427 also had a bigger bore and shorter stroke.
True. Plus the 427 was big bore, short stroke. The 428 was small bore, long stroke. Both FE series big blocks but that's pretty much all they had in common.
I'm sure by "same blocks" he meant the FE line in general.
In my opinion one of the best looking cars ever built !……….
FOR A FORD
My friend in high school had a 66 Ford Galaxy convertible, sky blue with a white top and a 460. God, i loved that car
I can only imagine.
Wow, what a car. Thanks for sharing .
I wouldn't mind having this as my weekend driver =-D
Now every time I see a 7 liter, I think of Jay Leno and his story of him ordering one kind of without his dad knowing in till the day it came.
I DON'T LIKE FORDS, BUT I LIKE THIS ONE, WHAT A BEAUTY !
That’s a Great Car, thank you for posting this. If anyone is interested in seeing a special 7 Liter go to Jay Leno’s Garage for his custom car.
Wow, Gorgeous. When cars were real cars.
@Blondie116, YES WHEN THEY WERE MADE OUT OF METAL, NOT
PLASTIC.
I generally don't like Fords, but this car's beautiful.
that is one of the best sounding cars i have ever heard. wb
I don't care what anybody thinks, I will always be a 60s Ford man! Beautiful car.
Can I like this more than a MILLION times? 🤓
on of my favorites.
No surprise that this would be rare. The convertible option and 427 should have pushed this up to the 4500 + dollar range for 67, which was mega expensive then.
Hahahah!! In 1967 you could buy an average house for the same $4500 !!!😂
Looks and sounds like a treat!
The GTO was a mid-sized car (Tempest/LeMans) with the 389 V8, while the 7 Litre was a full-sized Galaxie body with the 427/428. I believe a more

R-codes came with 3.50 open rear axles
Oh how I miss those days when cars were actually dependable and made of steel 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

I love the model year. My parents had an LTD of the same year. With a 352. Not a typo.
Insane rare muscle car; the Brothers Collection has the best of the best - who are these guys?
Alex Pavchinski the Brothers are very rich dudes with intelligence and brains to know how to enjoy being rich !
These guys rock .... I Find it so poorly out of imagination when rich dude buy new import cars like Mercedes just to show status ... Brothers Rock restoring and preserving all these Amazing muscle cars we dreamed when we're kids
Yes, very true; I wonder what they use for their everyday drivers? And who's the guy driving the cars in the videos?
Alex, still interested?? We are Denwerks. Names Jason. my daily driver is a 1986 Saab Turbo 5 speed.
Riding my bike on the streets of Dearborn Mich I saw this convertible car in red parked, sitting there looking bad as hell..The 7 litre badge on the trunk..I knew it was something special..

Beautiful car. Great video.
Basically Jay Leno restored a hardtop version of this car. 428 one 4 barrel not bad even with automatic if you got the right axle.
Very cool car. Leno has a burgundy '66 hardtop 7-Litre he did a resto-mod on. I think I'd prefer the convertible if it was available though.
Oh what a car 🇺🇸👍🏻
Love this show 👍🏻
Great job brother 👍🏻
beautiful from every angle, thank b you!
Wow! What a dream car!
Absolutely beautiful.
Wife loves color! Great car !!

If I hit the lottery I would hunt that car down and pay the owners whatever the asking price. PLUS TIP !!!!
Blue Falcon 64 You're smart dude , I would do just the exactly same !!! The best looking car ever with coolest name is a 66 Galaxie XL 7 litre
So Right !!!!
I know I'm real late to this comment but yea I would pay so much freaking $$$ for this if I hit the lotto
@butchtropic it's amazing that they are able to find these cars. And not just any classics these are 1 of 1's 1of 50's etc etc. With unlimited $ you can have it all I guess.

No cattle "
Sensacional, muy lindo Galaxie 500 by Ford.
That car is unreal. The stying is also unreal more like a mirage.
Back when there were packages but so much was Ala carte, and even more was available through the parts dept and shop. Those were the days 😀 now you get the choices of packages and it's like the daily special menu at the restaurant....NO SUBSTITUTIONS!
the beast
!
Please guys get the right t bird gold emblem on the air cleaners of these 427s they look great
The warning about keeping your windows closed above speed of 120 mph is so that the headliner could fold down on the occupants heads while driving at those speeds which could cause and accident with the headliner pressing down so hard on the driver's head.
That is a BEAUTIFUL Car! You want to talk about a “Sleeper”? Dust some G.M.s & Mopars for me! :€)
Damn, that thing sounds pissed!
I remember in shop class in junior high school we used to argue Ford and Chevey, the Chevy guys said this car looked like a box, yeah I guess it does . 😆
El ford galaxis hay que sacarse el sombrero hermoso auto de ford
It's a beauty.
Nice!

MY FRIEND STILL OWNS HIS MINT PROFESSIONALLY FRAME OFF RESTORED ONE TODAY . 66 TRUE 7 LITRE CONVERTIBLE

Add to the small list of ulltimate sleeper list !
one of the few cars that could benefit amazingly from three inch exhaust.and cold air induction, be like another 100 hp imho,, course wouldnt do it but probably knock two seconds off the ET,
OK, love the show and it's good to see the big mean Fords, but what about the Mercs? I had a 4-speed full console loaded bucket seat Merc S-55 that was one of my all time fav cars. Sort of the one I wish I still had. Any of those in the Bros Collection?
Hope we get to see some soon !! Another I hope they have is a T'Bird with the 390 Tr-Power and the 2-seat with tonneau cover. Slick ride :)
Correction; the Pontiac GTO was NOT a competitor to the 7 litre because the GTO was a midsized car, like a Fairlane. For Pontiac the 7 litre competitor would be the Bonneville or Catalina body.
The famous car of David Vincent in the TV movie !
Very cool 😎
Wow, looks like it just rolled off the assembly line
My Dad had the 390 V8 and C6 Automatic Transmission Transmission Galaxie 500 Convertible But took out the C6 and Updated with a 5 Speed Automatic came out of a 2006 Mustang and put in a 5.0L Coyote V8 as well with a Whipple Charger that gives it 775 HP AND 645 LB FT OF TORQUE
I LIKE IT! can you kindly tell can be found a the frontal drille? How much are you asking for it?
Coz I want one now.
cool car
When you are comparing cars and manufacturers, please be accurate in those comparisons. To even show this car in the "same" class is sacrilegious to both cars. The proper comparison would have been more like the 1966 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 421/4sp.. You've done this on many of your videos. Educate the right way, or don't even attempt it. Having said that, thanks for bringing this generation of cars to the masses. Keep it up!
Love the Hard Tops but not the convertibles.
I agree
Just 2 Jesus YEAH BEAST
Such a great car, and then he opened the hood, what, no DD-40 for hood springs?
sadly no :(
Umm, just ONE more thing 🤔 Holy Canoli 🦇man! 😳😲 If I'm not mistaken, weren't those front seats either available on or from the T-Bird of the same year..?
I cannot wait for the completion of the other 7 liter R code convertible. Do you know the color of the other car with its options?
Having bought a 66 7 Liter model in 68, one of the 247 made with a 4 speed, The car came with front disk brakes, the awesome XL interior with great bucket seat, and with a teak wood and aluminum steering wheel with a thin layer of teak across the lower dash and low restriction exhaust that SOUNDED NOTHING LIKE THIS RAGGEDY SOUNDING CAR. THE 428'S HAD A SLIGHTLY LONGER STROKE AND IT DID HAVE 345 HP,(UNDER-RATED).
Raggedy sounding was the solid lifter cam in the 427s.
@juanequis: the 428 was overrated by 20 hp. Just like all of the 390 4bbls of that period
