Yes, I did work in Hong Kong for 2 years after I graduated from high school in Canada. I think those years really helped me learn to read Chinese and speak some basic Mandarin.

Flora has the language fundamentals + down which is super helpful and makes travel in China more pleasant. The large cities are very clean and modern. I see you guys are doing what other Chinese do, if you see a line get in it. Lol. If you guys are able, stop in a town between the big cities. Check out rural living.

i'm in hangzhou right now too! and the best part of Hangzhou is not even the legendary West Lake, but the surrounding mountains, monasteries, and the tea plantations! all super walkable, much less crowded so you can really enjoy the beaautiful blend of culture and nature!

When I was in Hangzhou I remember seeing a sign that said something like, "when on earth u have heaven, when in China u have hangzhou". West Lake and the park is a beauty! The city gave me Chicago vibes for some reason. Would love to go back! 😊

Btw, as a foreign Chinese, China will always welcome you, I feel this way too, because I did some import business back then and I felt I got more privileges than other bigger customers.

Now is the most beautiful season in Hangzhou, classical and romantic. You can stand on the Broken Bridge and reminisce about the bustling capital that was here a thousand years ago. I have been to Hangzhou twice in winter, and I really like it here. I'm glad you are enjoying your time in China.
@@FloraandNote Hangzhou is full of lotus flowers around the whole West Lake from June to August, my favorite road is Beishan Road (relatively less tourists), and Nanshang Road is also very nice, just too many bars. It's just too hot for the season haha.

I loved the sharing of the legend of White Snake; it reminded me an anecdote with my dad (bless his soul). When I was really young, I saw the movie version of the story and it freaked me out thinking there were snakes posing as humans. He dispel my fears by explaining that these were just stories, and they were a means to convey Chinese philosophy: "you won't forget this story easily, right?". Short version is that human and snake represent living beings who can be as different as can be. In the story, the couple demonstrated their love, loyalty and respect for each other. However a third party however well intention-ed, destroyed the marriage; doesn't matter that the monk used truth to do it. There are many small lessons in the story, such as being tolerant and respectful to others who are different. Between couples, don't just listen to others outside of the family unit; the family unit is most important and valuable. Just because someone is different (the snake in the case of the story), doesn't mean that they don't have love and humanity. I forget the rest.

Bikes seem really fast and fun. Yes you made it and found parking. I really like this market. I would try this different kind of pancake. Flora and Note, I can’t smell the friend fish / bun and I tried. Notes face reaction said it all after taking his 1ST bite of the delicious bun and fried fish. I laughed with Flora because I thought Nota wanted to go for a swim. Boat looks amazing and too bad. It was filled on top. Absolutely loved the boat cruise. I wonder what Flora is eating in this orange cup?? Congrats you walked the tower all the way up to seeing the amazing views and specially the sunset. I love visiting China, the last time I was in Hangzhou and China was 2004. I heard that it's so safe and modern everywhere compare to the Western country.

Love this video! I lived in China for four years and never had a chance to visit Hangzhou, but heard great things about it and the West Lake. It is so beautiful just as I was told. Even the boat was gorgeous looking. I like how they have kept that old market as like Flora said, there is so much modernity anymore in China. Thanks for showing us Hangzhou! I loved living in China (Beijing and Shanghai), and always felt safe. I came back to Canada just before Covid. I can't wait to see more of this series. It is great that you are learning more about your heritage, Flora. Mandarin isn't an easy language to speak ime.
Flora, if you were born in hong kong and have hk id, you could apply for the 回鄉卡， then you can use it to access to china without a passport and also you can stay in china as long as you want

It’s actually legal to fly a drone in China, just have to follow their regulations. And the type of e-bike we rented didn’t require a license. The owner said the more powerful ones do require a license though.
Your video remind me of my first trip to Hangzhou in 1997 and it was also my first time in China, Hangzhou looks so much different now compared to 1997.
Love your vlog of China as it is more interesting and has more depth compared to other westerners' English vlog. This is because for the various places you guys have travelled to, you were able to have greater interaction with locals, as well as impart to your viewers some knowledge of Chinese history and culture.

Bikes seem really fast and fun. Yes you made it and found parking. I really like this market. I would try this different kind of pancake. Flora and Note, I can’t smell the friend fish / bun and I tried. Notes face reaction said it all after taking his 1ST bite of the delicious bun and fried fish. I laughed with Flora because I thought Nota wanted to go for a swim. Boat looks amazing and too bad. It was filled on top. Absolutely loved the boat cruise. I wonder what Flora is eating in this orange cup?? Congrats you walked the tower all the way up to seeing the amazing views and specially the sunset. It was so quick to get to Hangzhou, less than an hour on the train from Shanghai! The train stations are so big, just like airports 😆
Having your own transportation and go where and when ever you want is the best.
Hope you’ve got a chance to visit Lingyin Temple 灵隐寺 in Hangzhou, I think it’s one of the most beautiful temples in China.
And Fahua temple 法华寺,also well known temple in hangzhou just near to Lingyin temple
Love this video! I lived in China for four years and never had a chance to visit Hangzhou, but heard great things about it and the West Lake. It is so beautiful just as I was told. Even the boat was gorgeous looking. I like how they have kept that old market as like Flora said, there is so much modernity anymore in China. Thanks for showing us Hangzhou! I loved living in China (Beijing and Shanghai), and always felt safe. I came back to Canada just before Covid. I can't wait to see more of this series. It is great that you are learning more about your heritage, Flora. Mandarin isn't an easy language to speak ime.

Flora, if you were born in hong kong and have hk id, you could apply for the 回鄉卡， then you can use it to access to china without a passport and also you can stay in china as long as you want
Hello U both, thanks for sharing many many travel experiences! Just curious, U manage to fly drone in China? And U were on scooters without local licensing right? Is there any restriction or procedure? Hope U can share some tips :)
It’s actually legal to fly a drone in China, just have to follow their regulations. And the type of e-bike we rented didn’t require a license. The owner said the more powerful ones do require a license though.

Thank you so the video~I've been Hangzhou in Feb, also visited the local morning market which was so fun with lots of yummy foods. There was just so lively and energetic place that recommend you go there while you're in Hangzhou. Actually I planned to tried that deep fried fish too however Im just too full with other food.
