- In this video I talk EUC safety, head injuries and general safety guidelines. I take you on a short exploration of the San Antonio greenway trails south of downtown. And finally to wrap up the video a Toyota Prius runs a stop sign and pulls out in front of me as I'm going 35 mph.
My worst accident happened last December, when a guy didn't see me on a roundabout and ran me over. I had broken jaws, 6 stitches on my chin, a broken left wrist and a broken left upper arm, both which now have titanium holding them together. I was wearing all of my safety gear, but alas you can't win against a car. I am still in recovery doing physio, but I did go out for my first ride last weekend after almost 5 months off. I have to admit that I still feel nervous around cars, but I've always preferred off-road anyway. Still, it was awesome to be floating over the surface of the Earth again!
wow , so sorry you had to go through that. I'm trying to ride away from car as well. Thanks for watching
I got t boned on march 8-24 riding a Patton still recovering. A left turning car came close to breaking my back and killing me. I was wearing full armor. Suit up so when it happens you will stand a better chance of survival. Safety first.
Wow man, I'm glad it wasn't worse for you. That still sounds like a very scary incident. I'm going to try and limit my riding around cars, you simply can't trust them. I saw my life flash before my eyes and it really scared me.
Thanks for sharing. I had a very similar thing a few months back but the car that pulled out in front of me saw me at the very last minute and attempted to emergency stop, leaving him stationary right in my path, so I went careering into the side of him. In my case thanks to low speed (me), full armour inc bodysuit and MC helmet I was able to escape injury and get right up.
Man I'm glad your ok. Safety is serious. I sort of balk at wearing my gear sometimes but it has already saved my skin. The reason I was so apprehensive about EUC'ing during the daytime as opposed to after midnight was the increased traffic. I'll admit though the fear does at to part of the thrill. Great video and thank you for sharing!
You bet, thanks for watching and commenting. I hope you do take time to put that gear on. I know I have to force myself to all the time. Beside, I can never really be at ease while riding if I'm not wearing my stuff because inside I know I should be.
@@mursegeorge you bet I am wearing it. I’m going to figure out a more breathable load out for the upcoming summer but either way I’ll be geared up.
I always slow down where a car is waiting to pull out and I waved at them as if they are idiots also your visibility is improved by seating left and right at night I wave a red flashlight left and right .
Wow, that was scary, but glad to see you ok
Get a yellow hi-vis vest and ALWAYS have your lights on, preferably in blinking mode if you can..
You are right those are both good ideas. Thanks for watching and commenting, keep it up.
@@mursegeorge Won't help against blind people driving cars though.. But it's like night and day difference for me in traffic now that I started riding with hi-vis vest. And 3 monies for it and it's not warm to have on. It's a no brainer really 😀
Wow
Dang! Glad your ok. Instincts, skills, and adrenaline kicked in. Wow!
Yup, that's exactly what happened. I actually saw things in slow motion in my mind as it was happening. I just shifted my body weight and slammed on the brakes once I saw that car moving through the intersection. If she would have tapped her brakes I would not have been able to maneuver around her and would have just t-boned her. Hey, thanks for watching and commenting, keep it up.
I always just find it funny when driver's honk when they don't have the right of way. Kind of gives the impression that they think they are more important than everyone else.
Yea these cars dont expect a man on a unicycle when they drive. I always get jitters seeing a car on edge like that with their head not looking at you. Think about getting hi viz as mentioned before and a loud horn. They make rechargeable ones. I just invested in $1500 in gear due to a recent accident myself. We ride sometimes on Wednesdays. Glad you are ok
oh yeah when they jitter like that I have no clue if they see me, I never go infront anymore, always go around them or go behind them then wait for them to go because people are nutters
I had several close calls, like someone riding their bike crossing into my lane because he was turning, or this one time I was riding on the side of the road and someone parked on the side of the road opened the door. I had enough skill and good reflexes to avoid crashing. None of which were my fault at all. You just have to pay attention to all your surroundings. I'm constantly looking around, looking behind me, everything.
The black pickup was honking because prius pulled out of a give-way without stopping and almost crashed into you and pickup
Wowzersss
EUC's aren't deadly, cars are.
plates and straight to popo
i hit a car that was parked and suddenly turn and stayed in the middle of the road. i did like you and hit his rear wheel, and dented my rim. and crashed with the car, i couldnt break enough. im fine no bad injuries
Glad to hear you pulled through that one. We're both lucky to be alive for sure. Stay safe my friend.
Holy cow I got nervous just watching that, I can’t imagine how you felt in that moment 😳
My heart definitely skipped a beat! I was just so amazed that I came so close but ended up without a scratch. I was sooo lucky. Hey, thanks for watching and commenting, keep it up.
Did you have vertigo after your concussion? I suffered a fractured skull. I still have vertigo 2 months after the accident.
Yes same here. It’s been 2 months for me to and I still get dizzy every time I get out of bed.
Replace your helmet if you are still using the one you got concussed in. The foam compresses and has drastically reduced impact absorption!
Yes, you are right. I will order a new one today. Thanks for watching and commenting.
people don't know what these things are and I will tell they all do exactly the opposite. the thing is you have to be fully aware and trust that cars are aiming to kill you. I've had cars stop in the middle of tyhe street when I'm like 20ft away slowly approaching then getting off my wheel the lady stayed in front of the street acting like I DID SOMETHING WRONG. numbskulls bro. every car stops dead in the road like a deer.
these are not deadly once you get to understand how YOUR city handles them. I know my city veryyyy well, one thing I do is if I can't see clearly down a road like that as im approaching I slow down. the thing is these can be deadly because it requires a hell of alot of movement and flexibility. Always breaking at ANY unknown blind spots, always micro adjusting, always keeping my exits open just like a motocycle legit watching moto vids prob helped alot same danagers.
concussion at 20 mph while wearing a helmet! Imagine if you didn't have a helmet?
It's deadly thanks to our built environment favoring throughput over human life.
