No offense but why would you expect a "movie-game" from a developer who makes pure arcade shooters? They don't do games like that. Their games are all about the gameplay.
@kangamooo It just kinda hit me, and I had to repeat the moment to check that I wasn't going crazy haha. I 100%'d the game a long time ago, and now I just replay it because the game has so many cool details visually and audiowise I never paid attention to before. Like for example, when you enter a room in Overgrown Rooms, it'll play different, small jingles that are all more or less referencing Don't Fear The Reaper. Most of them are obvious, very synth/pad heavy and very 'on the nose', and then there are more subtle versions. There's one in particular I had never heard before until recently, where it's a very silent, clean piano version of the first part of the first verse. All music in the level are also in the same key as Don't Fear The Reaper. This game is a masterpiece.
I’d like to think of myself as being good at distinguishing music but I am having the hardest time hearing “Don’t Fear The Reaper” in this boss fight 😅
I got the game for Christmas, started playing on Jan, 1st. and beat this guy yesterday on the first try. Pretty proud of myself. This fight is already one of my favorite gaming moments of 2022. With the organ music, it also strongly reminded me of Nex Machina where some of the bosses also have an Organ in their themes.
I bought it around Black Friday for $30. Started a week ago and just finished the final boss today. Amazing game! I am awful at Dark Souls (only played 3) and I literally uninstalled Sekiro because I suck so bad but this game was just challenging enough for me
One of the best fights in the game and halfway through I went completely deaf by the worst audio bug I've ever encountered in a game.... still great though! 👍
It is in the game, in the house there is a vinyl player that plays the song once you interact with it. The song matches the feeling while exploring the house really well.
I forget if it plays during the credits the first time but if you go back and do act 3 the credits start with Don’t Fear The Reaper. Perfect song for a game that feels like a modern take throwback to 1970’s bullet hell arcade game. Everything about this game just came together perfectly. The climb up to Hyperion as the music gets louder and more intense into this extremely creative boss fight was amazing.
''did you learn this melody from me? or did I learn it from you?'' this is somehow very haunting
"Did you learn this melody from me? Or did I learn it from you?"
Yes and yes.
This game absolutely DESTROYED my expectations I thought I was hoping in another movie-game, it's a fucking brilliant roguelite bullethell.
It is a fantastic game - the speed / gameplay etc is just brilliant. It's punishing though and pretty tough.

Movie games are bad unless if its my favorite game.
Roguelike Bullet Hell with reliance on RNG it's the perfect way of describing this game.

This subtle undertone as well from the "seasons don't fear the reaper" verse. It's SO GOOD
I'm so glad you pointed out where it was.
I've been listening for it but having trouble finding it, it's so clear now that you pointed it out
Wait that’s insanely subtle how did you notice that

00:02 is a great place to hear the organs do the notes of "Seasons don't fear the Reaper"
My jaw dropped when I heard and saw this. One of the greatest moments I’ve experienced in my 30 years of gaming. Brilliant.
I NEVER would have realised this is Don't Fear the Reaper. Ever. Genius
mad respected to that boss who keep killing it even it being killied
There will never be another game as masterfully designed as Returnal.

this game... what a masterpiece
This is named after Selene's Father. Such a great boss fight though.
Great gameplay
Favorite boss of this game, solely because of the music
All this has happened before... And it will happen again...
One of the best fights in the game and halfway through I went completely deaf by the worst audio bug I've ever encountered in a game.... still great though! 👍
I think I know the audio bug you're talking about. It happened once or twice to me, I was wearing a headset.
Is it actually in the game? At the end it plays in the car radio
