Holy sheetu, the only reason I knew of this band was because of a game called roadkill, glad I remembered the name of the band

Don't fear the reaper: A beautiful song about accepting the inevitable fate of death we all share
Cow bell: Tonk tonk tonk
My headcanon is that the reaper is constantly hitting the cowbell as seconds fly by, like a death countdown reminding us that time is finate. Notice how in the guitar solo representing death the cowbell isn´t present.
This comment made me laugh more then any reasonable person should.
Needs more cowbell, dude. lol

@Karen Sanders that theory's been floating around forever, it's already officially been deconfirmed. The only reason Romeo and Juliet are mentioned is because the theme is being happy together in death.
The song is just about accepting death.
I once struggled with addiction, very badly. I remember listening to this song at my lowest, and contemplating whether or not I was ready to face death. No doubt that’s where I was headed. “Came her last night of sadness, it was clear that she couldn’t go on”. I truly think that this song helped me realize that I wanted to fight, I wanted to live, and I did. I got clean.
It’s been 9 years since that time in my life. I have the life I’ve always dreamed of, and I almost missed it. If anyone else is in that place, you’re worth fighting for.
Good job. I'm a stranger, but know that I'm proud of you.
As am I. Wonderful for you❣️❣️❣️
I applaud anyone that accepts they are powerless over addiction The humility and bravery to fight that daily battle and succeed one day at a time, is glory bound. You faced Lucifer, at your most vunerable and turned away. May you be blessed in your sobriety, every day.
I could do about anything out there and I never could be addicted or an alcoholic. I alot of people did and my older brother was a bad alcoholic. I just did for fun I could take it or leave it. I feel bad for the one's that are.
i dont know you but im very proud of you god bless.
This will be played at my funeral. My favorite song of all time.
It was played at my moms, 15 years ago when I was 14. It seemed very fitting and if ever there was a good choice of funeral song I’d say this is it

Not looking for this, "just" come across it. Someone said to me that death is THE adventure. No one alive really knows what happens when we die, until we die. And then we see the big mystery.

There was music playing in the cardiac cath lab. Just before my procedure began I could the hear opening to Don't Fear the Reaper. I asked if the choice of song was intentional. The room went silent while they all listened to hear what song was playing. One of the nurses said "oh sorry, we can change it", "No" I said, "this is perfect".

By far one of the best solos my ears have experienced.
I think the message here is that we should not live life paralyzed by fear, but instead live life to the fullest. Some very sage advice indeed.
No this song is strictly about suicide around 40000 people a year kill them selves as you hear in the song I think they said every day just because it sounds better Romeo and Juliet both killed themselves and the woman at the end of the song literally kills herself this song is not about not living in fear and living your life to the fullest it is a song about not being afraid to take your own life don't fear the reaper

@@aggroelohim3537 It's funny how you can say something so incorrect with so much confidence. Even Buck Dharma, who wrote the song, refuted that. The song is about love and the inevitability of death, and the message the original commenter took out of it is closer than yours
@@SkeletonGuyVT how is it even remotely about love lovers suicide maybe Romeo and Juliet and the woman at the end that is in the context of suicide in the first part it's almost like the singer is trying to convince his lover to commit lovers suicide with him "40000 Men and Women every day we can be like they are baby take my hand we'll be able to fly" as it the previous comment 40000+ people kill themselves per year do you think the writer just pull that number out of nowhere and at the end of the song the woman clearly kills herself who appears at her window and they fly away together it's death it's a allegory for suicide "she has become like they are" aka the 40000+ who killed themselves per year
@@SkeletonGuyVT maybe bucky boy felt remorse for writing such an amazing song about killing yourself and no doubt this song has inspired many a suicide that he wanted to change the original meaning of the song

Hi I recommend an Indie rock song & video called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
As someone, who at times has fought so hard against the call of suicide, I find this song to be strangely calming and empowering
If you take the fear out of suicide you can actually feel better. It seems counterintuitive but anything that reduces anxiety can only help you. Speaking from my own unfortunately extensive experience in these matters.
You can fight death. Fear drives us to suicide. The ultimate fear is fear of death. The paradox is it drives us to it, because we simply can't live in fear of it any longer. But if you don't fear death, you fear nothing
I also fight the call of suicide and find this song empowering
As someone who has also attempted suicide I feel the same way about this song

Im 13 and this is a BANGER. Recently found out about it around a couple months ago, and cant stop listening! Dont fear the reaper!!
The guitar at the start of the song is absolutely fabulous
This is one of my favorite songs from the 70's. I always thought it was about suicide. In further reading about the song, I learned that Donald Roeser said he never intended the song to be about suicide. He said it's about imagining you can transcend life in terms of your spirit, and that your spirit will prevail. He was diagnosed with a heart condition at a young age, and thinking about his own immortality, that we will all face. He was wondering if he would be reunited with loved ones in the afterlife. It's more about not fearing death because the spirit and love will transcend and prevail.
@Shelly Watson ; Thank you for sharing this actually very meaningful background-history of this truly heavenly song!👍❤ I kinda already thought of its greater spiritual meaning and value, than 'merely' as a romanticised reference to a 'love-couple suicide' (which on its own has its rights; suicide IS to be taken seriously and is (emotionally) to be taken in respect...), yet I was not sure.. Thanks to you, I will now fully enjoy the romantic and very spiritual quality of this supreme song!👌 BTW kind greetings from San Diego, CA🇺🇸!
it isnt about suicide although that's a noble path... but it just means that nature is what is... not evil like we are,,, seasons dont fear the reaper.. meaning that life is death...
@@zandarx That is a very intresting interpretation and point of view that you offer here! Respect! And I appreciate that and thank you for it! Although I'm not religious nor church-going, I personally am kinda spiritual, and I do believe in a supreme, omnipotent (celestial) being that has caused the 'big bang' and consequently has created the universe and also ultimately this earth, ánd also mankind. What you say about nature (besides mankind) being fundamentally good (opposed to evil) and 'unspoiled' in its origins, I concur. It is
mankind that definitely changed life on earth profoundly and almost completely. But I personally believe in spiritualism and spirituality; and that teaches me that, in nature, indeed, nothing is black or white, it just 'IS', in its very essence, to its true core. Mankind and how they have evolved, etc..., thát's something totally different, but that topic belongs to my personal belief-system, and I don't think I should bother you with that, right?!😉
@@georgelebreton3177 Kind soul Thank you for your words and youre not bothering at all! its a pleasure to get a great interpretation and well meant words of understanding instead of what we normally get from the Internet Shout Factory... lol... and i know its not a popular view to accept suicide.. i myself lost a friend a few weeks ago, a paramedic actually, to suicide and while I am sad, I comfort from the notion that he came to a decision that he felt he was no longer needed, as tragic as it is. I wish I could have been there for him but he was simply too far away. A Marcus Aurelius said (paraphrased) You were born because the world had need of thee, so to die is simply a change of state as the world needs you in some some other form"> Not easy but we have to find some meaning in that. All the best, stay safe
@@zandarx Thank you, you're very kind! Really! And you are right about how many people still treat suicide as a kind of shame; which of course, is absolutely not right at all! I am very sorry for your loss, dear friend. I whole-heartedly offer you my condolances. I feel really sorry for his sad and untimely passing. And somehow I also remain hopeful for your friend's destiny! Let's hope he has found peace now, in every way. He must have had to face a truly painful and impossible fate (even if that was only in his own mind). I think it must have also asked some kind of real courage to eventually take the step which he obviously took. In hind-sight we can all lament and feel deeply affected about his final choice, but actually, we can only try to accept it and respect him for taking 'responsibility' for his own life (and all that was unbearably hard to continue on living with, from his point of view). Sometimes life doesn't leave
you with much else than despair; and it is through such (personal) desperate feelings and thoughts, that some (very) drastic and even fatal decisions are made.. I'm sincerely convinced that one has to respect someone's ultimate choice, however we feel so sad and opposed against it.. In your case it IS a beloved friend's last wish.. (as in how he must have perceived his (whole) life at that very saddening, incredibly cruel point in time..). Acceptance will come one day (soon), but keep faith in it that you guys WILL meet again, and that all this (=this chaotic, incompassionate, hard, hurtful and sometimes even inhumane life) will only be a sad but very distant memory.. I sincerely hope it may turn out so to be, one beautiful day. My family and I, myself, have lost my 18-year old nephew (my sister's son) in a similar way, almost 11 years ago. I'm sure you can imagine what kind of emotional, psychological pain and shock that deplorable happening has caused us... And still, after all this time, he remains loved and somehow present in our lives... I like your quoting about how suicide can be viewed. It IS hope-giving and kind.
Thanks! And have a nice day, my friend! You too; keep faith, stay safe, stay well!!!👍👋

They have not had worldwide recognition, they are one of the best groups in history
So glad they added this on Fortnite
Huh?
@@CMOplayzthere's a rythm gamemode on Fortnite now, and this is one of the songs featured there.
Blue Oyster Cult: Let's make a song so badass that we could literally throw a cow bell innit and people wouldn't mind.
Let's rip off*
Imagine if they put cowbell in Heavy Metal: The Black And Silver, haha.
Aesthetic Statue what’d they rip off
Yes
@VeteranCape yes there is.
My little brother has been to MANY B.O.C. concerts and when he was diagnosed with inoperable cancer this music gave him solace and peace in his final moments
It would be a nice song to go out on.
Sorry too, man. Glad the music helped though. Much loves! :)
God Bless your Brother. he's in a much better place now & smiling down on you. treasure your memories & by all means reach out to him in prayer sessions. he'll be happy to hear from you. until you see him again in Heaven.
are you still with the living? if not RIP.

Commander Shepard blazing this as he fights the Reapers
They got the cowbell bang on with this one.
This song is just kinda 10/10, isn't it?
Andromeda Hadouken ya pretty much
9/11 better
The score is out of 666.
I'd rate it 9/10, it's just missing something, like more cowbell

RIDETHESUNSHINE............... Touch'e Brother! Awesome Quote.....
i mostly listen to hip hop but grew up with rock and can appreciate it heavily because of my parents, this has got to be a top 5 rock song ever. absolute masterpiece
I’m in Ireland and I first heard this song in late 1978.
John carpenter is a genius. Not just for Halloween but for putting this song in Halloween, some of the lyrics eerily mirror the movie and Michael Myers as a force of nature like the wind and rain. “The curtains flew and then he appeared” always gives me chills.
Also as a foreshadowing in Scream they play a cover of it when Billy was first introduced.
@@tupacgaming5307 I realized this not too long ago while watching Scream. Blew my mind.
@@opresiga for real I love rewatching it and discovering new little details everytime
It‘s also part of the Soundtrack for the original Zomieland movie.
Genius little detail and it's the little things that count.
it's hard to believe that some people will live their entire life without hearing this song
Pity them their loss then forgive them their reason..
and you'll might live your entire life without hearing a song you would like as much as this, it's not a big deal
I know riiiiiiight!
luckily this is in maaaany movies and shows
They need more cowbell in their lives.
One of the most perfect recordings of an incredible song by a monster band.
My favorite BlueOysterCult,s song ever.
“The curtains blew and then he appeared…”
Gives me fucking chills.
Fuuuck yeah
The Dark Man aka The Walking Dude
"Saying 'Don't be afraid'"
Me to
Same here man! Fucking genius.
1976-2000: "Such an incredible gothic song, the atmosphere, one of the best rock songs ever"
2000-present: "I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more cowbell"
And so it goes.
10/10 best comment.

both very real
ha, what a good comment. What's more, is to look even further into such a proposition. genius.com/Bladee-college-boy-lyrics well see how someone does very that, in this song give your prescription
@Point Venus right this isnt that dumb screamo music
This song is timeless. If someone told me this was made today, I would’ve believed it.
Saw BOC 3-4 times... first time I was like 15 in the BC arena In Binghamton NY...looked this song ever since!!!!
I love how well this song has aged. It’s going on 46 years old now yet it is still iconic nowadays. Absolutely timeless.
They are opening for Deep Purple at the Hard Rock in S. Fla - can't wait!
@@bettieboop77 wow Blue Oyster Cult AND Deep Purple? Dayum!

Blue Oyster Cult at Hara Arena Dayton Ohio in the late 1970's. Great concert!
I scrolled for a long time trying to find lyrics. I didn't find 'em, so here you are!
All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain, we can be like they are
Come on baby, don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand, don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly, don't fear the reaper
Baby I'm your man
La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la
Valentine is done
Here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity, Romeo and Juliet
40, 000 men and women everyday, Like Romeo and Juliet
40, 000 men and women everyday, Redefine happiness
Another 40, 000 coming everyday, We can be like they are
Come on baby, don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand, don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly, don't fear the reaper
Baby I'm your man
La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la
Love of two is one
Here but now they're gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear she couldn't go on
Then the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew then disappeared
The curtains flew then he appeared, saying don't be afraid
Come on baby, and she had no fear
And she ran to him, then they started to fly
They looked backward and said goodbye, she had become like they are
She had taken his hand, she had become like they are
Come on baby, don't fear the reaper
I think I saw it somewhere around here last week, and was starting to search it but got this the 3rd comment 😂
@@luciferfallenangel666 another comment DEFINITELY exists but I made this one for the convenience of others
The lyrics are now two comments below yours lmao.
Never missed nor misunderstood a word ever, sorry you did. Different generations but all cool ❤
thanks
When I was a DJ back in the late 70's into the 80's I worked at an AM / FM combo. The AM was a classic-traditional country format, while the FM was a rock-top 40 format. We had two rules: Never play "Sunday Morning Coming Down" by Johnny Cash on Sunday morning and never play "Don't Fear the Reaper" after 10 PM. Management was afraid a listener would commit suicide. Strange but true...
Eerie
Probably a very wise decision.
I used to listen to Sunday Morning Coming Down every Sunday morning at work
@@jimmyd1337 You sir are no doubt a Jedi Master!
Why not. We can be like they are LOL
I was 15 when this magical song came on the radio..... I was hooked.... been a BIG fan ever since... My Favorite band period.....!
Best riff EVER, and then that cowbell! NO WORDS. ❤️👏👏👏
"Don't be afraid.."
- The Reaper
Don't steal the reefer lol
Better than biblically correct angels saying "FEAR NOT MORTAL".
"Be afraid, be very afraid" - The Fly
Batman’s dad said that too
Don't be afraid. This won't hurt (much).
We aren't even two weeks into 2021 and I'm already listening to this.
Felt that man
Rub-A-Dub-Dub.
I really need that cowbell. 😁
It doesn't take years to love.
first time I am listening to this. 2021 seems to be a better one
Thumbs up if you're listening to this classic in 2024
This is my favourite song of all time, across all genres, everytime
