One thing to also remember is that Garp is literally a man who only fights with his fists. At the top of the Navy, the strongest Marines were all devil fruits users and not just any devil fruits either, but some of the strongest ones possible. Whilst Garp only fought with his fists. Same goes for Whitebeard and even Shanks and Roger who both used some of the best swords around.
Always happy to see Garp being respected for his performance against Aokiji. People only bring up Aokiji having some mental nerfs but never the nerfs Garp clearly encountered throughout his fight.
The thing is Garp aging is not the same as Kuzan having mental blocks that forbid him from using his full power. Garp was going all out but his full power wasn’t near what it was in his younger days, but Kuzan still had plenty of power left.
I still think there may have been something going on in that fight. (Spoilers for anime only) They didn't even show how Garp ended up that way. Last we see he's wreaking havoc on hachinosu then as soon as his crew escapes it skips to Garp being frozen. I also don't think Kuzan is just Blackbeard's lackey. We also know being frozen doesn't mean the character is dead.
Garp might have been the strongest of the old Gen ngl, his aura and him fighting countless stacked crews with his naval fleet consisting of decent marines is just fucking insane 😂 He’s cornered roger, had many crazy battles with him and his crew, was considered a demon for pirates, has no scars what so ever and aided roger in defeating rocks and his stacked crew. Has the best feats as an old man, beating up on aokiji and having raw insane haki and speed compared to every other old gen. His blood line has produced dragon and luffy nuff said. He also trained Aokiji, Koby, Luffy, dragon potentially, ace most likely when he was a kid.

Garp had to deal with a huge chunk of the Blackbeard Pirates including several commanders AND Aokiji. Aokiji just.... needed to deal with Garp. Garp managed to blitz Aokiji several times throughout the fight as well while even when going all out, we never really got the reverse from Aokiji. People make it sound like Aokiji at his max just casually destroys garp in a fair 1v1 but it seems like no matter what, a serious fight between these two is at least a high difficulty fight.
Wonder if we will ever get to see Garp or Sengoku go all out since Sengoku wasn’t present during god valley. The only way oda could is if he had them fight each other

Whitebeard had to be "nerfed" by Akainu so that he had a chance. That's something we always forget. But Whitebeard took a Sword through his body before he even started to somewhat fight.
I feel like you could interpret that in the panel where kuzan says he lives his life the way he wants now is him fully locking in on the fight I agree he wasn’t at first though that’s just how I interpreted that cause also unlike kizaru where there is a power gap with vegapunk I don’t think kuzan can afford to hold back in a sustained confrontation with someone like garp and also garps statement is just what he thinks about kuzans position kuzan is actively arguing back at garp
His feat of one shotting Don Chinjao cannot be understated because his strength was such that he just punched straight through a character with some of the strongest haki in the verse at his prime and squashed him.
Chinjao also had the hardest head in the world that could split continents. People just think cause of his lower bounty that he wasn’t all that but the way Garp dispatched of him and latter gained his title Garp the fist cause of flattening his head hypes him up further.
What I ultimately got from this thorough and informative deep dive on Garp is this: Luffy is much stronger currently than the fandom wants to give him credit for. If the original admirals are comparable in strength, and Garp is essentially pirate king level, then so is Luffy. Luffy hit Kizaru so hard, that, while he could’ve continued, he just said “F this, that punched sucked. I wanna stay down for a bit longer”. I understand Kizaru is the least of the 3 original admirals and may have a considerable less amount of vitality, as he relies mostly on dodging, he is still an admiral. If Garp “The Fist” can punch an Admiral (Kuzan) and he gets up and fights him tit for tat, then we have a substantial power scaling moment here. Luffy’s fists are getting damn close to his Grandpa’s (if not past them). Luffy WAS stronger than Kaido. Luffy is the only one who could really hold off the Gorosei. He is one of the truly most powerful characters. Like current top 3 active pirates. I’m not sure why the fandom wants to act like our protagonist isn’t there yet, but I believe he is. It’s time to recognize that.
At the very beginning of the arc the Titanic Captains said they had to hold back to not destroy Hachinosu but that's always conveniently overlooked when discussing this fraud. Aokiji would destroy Garp if he was serious.
People seemed to have missed that part. Kuzan is the one questioning garp’s stance here not the other way around which would support Garp having more emotional distractions first protecting the young marines, deciding wether or not to potentially kill his old apprentice, heck even Garp risked his life to save Koby’s which weakened him. He was easily more compromised more than Aokiji who had nothing holding him back besides just not freezing beehive that was it.
That was 100% evidence that Garp was also kinda nerfed a bit but Garp also replies by saying "DON'T BE TIED DOWN BY THIS NONSENSE, I TAUGHT YOU TO LIVE IN THE MOMENT" before bashing him in the fucking head with Blue Hole and saying "LISTEN UP KUZAN, WAVERING IS A SIGN.... OF WEAKNESS!". It's clear that both Kuzan and Garp had things nerfing their ability to fight at 100%.
Garp for sure is the strongest. He’s got nothing but haki. No weapons. No devil fruit. No fantasy genetics like Lunarian fishman or giant. No physical enhancements like cybernetics or biotech. Not even bare handed martial arts like 6 powers or fishman karate. He is literally just a bar brawler with insane athleticism and mastery of haki, yet he’s on par with people that use weapons and devil fruits on top of that. Narratively this might not be true but on paper power scaling wise he’s got to have the best haki and the best athletic stats to be top tier despite having such a small combat arsenal.
6:51 One thing though, I believe an old man can still match the strength of a young man through pure strength training; it’s recovery that the old man lacks. In One Piece, I believe when Luffy is in his 70s, if he ever lives that long, his 10 minutes of rest after Gear 4 will be closer to an hour, if not longer.

It's crazy that some people in the comments can't tell the difference between current power and former power, yes aokiji can defeat current garp and that's completely valid because current garp is still among the top fighters, but hands down garp from 20 years ago would destroy him and that's a fact considering that man clashed with roger countless times meaning he could fight whitebeard aswell. I'd argue give aokiji another 10 years and he would be terrifyingly close to prime garp and that is a fight i would have loved to see but will never happen sadly.
Luffy said "don't fight him" to his crewmates after Sanji of all people was speedblitzed. His cannon throw surprised them again, the big chain ball surprised us all. He one shot Marco and left him with a scar ... He left a scar on a Phoenix ... Now you tell me that is not a testament to his strength ... Marco clashed with many, including Admirals, he was not left scarred by them. Sengoku couldn't predict until the last moment that Garp would let Luffy hit him. Garp said he would kill Akainu ... Sengoku with the full composure during the whole war ... Stopped everything to go and stop Garp. He wasn't afraid to face Shanks as well if needed, unlike Akainu and Kizaru for Benn Beckman. After the timeskip, he had some ups and downs in terms of strength, but his lessons, courage and unwavering are some of his traits that inspire trough all.
I think the strongest Marine in history is Kong. He likely ate the ancient Zoan King Kong fruit, and it's possible that Kong taught Garp the shockwave technique, which made Garp incredibly strong.
Two characters I will always defend power wise from the old era are Garp & Rayleigh 😤. I keep telling folks Garp was up there with Roger & Whitebeard. If as stated they were equal (10/10) then I would give prime Garp a 9.5-9.9 💯. I had him and Rayleigh as top 5 during Roger era.. Personally I don't think another marine will ever reach his lvl. Koby will get strong but I feel will only surpass Garp possibly in ideology. Garp as we saw let his job win (which isn't wrong 😅) but i feel Koby will not let a job dictate what he does similar to Garp but better. I'm kinda happy Oda doesn't rush and show us old era characters or flashback fights so he can potentially develop more broken haki abilities 😅

I’d say during marineford garp was for sure stronger but after the time skip it’s not crazy to assume akainu got stronger especially from a haki bloom with his fight with kuzan.
I don't see Roger turning himself to just any marine or without a fight. Even though Roger was sick. He will only turn himself to a worthy marine he respects. As pirates, respect is best earned by might. Everyone thinks that's Garp, but my money is Dragon. Gives a lot of reasons why Dragon quit being a marine and created the Revolutionary Army.
Garp had no confirmation of conquerors haki on Hachinosu but to be honest him not having it goes against the story somewhat. His comment in marineford makes it seem as though the color of the supreme king can be inherited. That plus dueling with Roger to the death and Sengoku having it as well, it’s hard to imagine him not having it. Otherwise great video

But on the other hand Garp being busted with armament haki could make sense story wise. I still do think he’s a conqueror because it seems as though all signs point towards him being one but he didn’t knock any fodder out so can’t really say confirmed
@Tem2900 tbh the fodders surviving made no sense. Even if that wasn't conquerors haki that explosion still blew up like a city block worth of area and obliterated tons of buildings. A normal human should not survive that.

@Shadowwarrior996 the Battleship bag sequence only proves kuzan has the same physical strength as prime garp. They weren't using haki so garp still has far better haki and speed than kuzan. Garp was also severly nerfed in his fight with kuzan as he was getting attacked by an entire yonko crew, was stabbed through the stomach by shiryu mid fight, and had to split his focus between fighting kuzan and protecting koby and the others.
I think garp is definitely as strong as the admirals and mabe some of the yonko's but he just doesn't have the stamina which is his biggest issue and why he'd lose in a fight against most of the top teirs

Defeated the rocks pirates with roger(meaning whitebeard got his ass whopped in this ordeal whether people want to admit it or not! alongside killing rocks) Garp literally also has the best old gen feats, he has no scars from his many legendary battles and he was carrying the Marines alongside sengoku against crazy stacked pirate crews and has remained active longer than roger, whitebeard or Rayleigh fighting and still chasing pirates till he met his demise due to plot convenience 😂

If imu was that strong this long drawn out war would’ve been over already. Imu is strong but was trembling from sensing joyboy’s old ass haki from the past. Imu has to many crazy forces to not have won this struggle already. Question : How we can know Garp is the strongest member of World Govt, if we never saw any Nobles (Knights, Gorosei, Garling and Ym) and maybe others we don't know for the moment ? Garp get rekt by Shiliew and Kuzan pretty easily, and he needed to be with Sengoku for take Shiki alone without his crew with all the Marines in their side and Shiki was able to destroy the half of the Map and Garp and Sengoku were injured as hell at the end of the Fight... So i dont think at prime they got Yonko lvls, or Shiki got the lvl of Roger but it will make no sense. Prime Roger was stated to have been cornered by Garp numerous times and Roger personally calls out Sengoku and Garp as people worth fighting during the Oden flashback. Also Old Garp put Shiryu down in one attack and he was blitzing Aokiji several times throughout their fight and inflicting visible damage to him. We've never even seen someone have that kind of commanding fighting against an Admiral until Luffy fought Kizaru and Shanks made Aramaki shit his pants.

His feat of one shotting Don Chinjao cannot be understated because his strength was such that he just punched straight through a character with some of the strongest haki in the verse at his prime and squashed him.
Chinjao also had the hardest head in the world that could split continents. People just think cause of his lower bounty that he wasn’t all that but the way Garp dispatched of him and latter gained his title Garp the fist cause of flattening his head hypes him up further.

What I ultimately got from this thorough and informative deep dive on Garp is this: Luffy is much stronger currently than the fandom wants to give him credit for. If the original admirals are comparable in strength, and Garp is essentially pirate king level, then so is Luffy. Luffy hit Kizaru so hard, that, while he could’ve continued, he just said “F this, that punched sucked. I wanna stay down for a bit longer”. I understand Kizaru is the least of the 3 original admirals and may have a considerable less amount of vitality, as he relies mostly on dodging, he is still an admiral. If Garp “The Fist” can punch an Admiral (Kuzan) and he gets up and fights him tit for tat, then we have a substantial power scaling moment here. Luffy’s fists are getting damn close to his Grandpa’s (if not past them). Luffy WAS stronger than Kaido. Luffy is the only one who could really hold off the Gorosei. He is one of the truly most powerful characters. Like current top 3 active pirates. I’m not sure why the fandom wants to act like our protagonist isn’t there yet, but I believe he is. It’s time to recognize that.
I think Luffy and Garp are descendants of the actual Joyboy and that it's just the Monkey D.'s thing to be absurdly powerful because of Joyboy.
At the very beginning of the arc the Titanic Captains said they had to hold back to not destroy Hachinosu but that's always conveniently overlooked when discussing this fraud. Aokiji would destroy Garp if he was serious.

In polls i tend to see Somehow Prime Garp, Sengoku, and Shiki below Shanks but Roger is unquestionably above.
How was kuzan nurfed? lol he wasn't garp saying that was a reply to kuzan saying, "Can you kill your old student to save your new one"
People seemed to have missed that part. Kuzan is the one questioning garp’s stance here not the other way around which would support Garp having more emotional distractions first protecting the young marines, deciding wether or not to potentially kill his old apprentice, heck even Garp risked his life to save Koby’s which weakened him.
He was easily more compromised more than Aokiji who had nothing holding him back besides just not freezing beehive that was it.
That was 100% evidence that Garp was also kinda nerfed a bit but Garp also replies by saying "DON'T BE TIED DOWN BY THIS NONSENSE, I TAUGHT YOU TO LIVE IN THE MOMENT" before bashing him in the fucking head with Blue Hole and saying "LISTEN UP KUZAN, WAVERING IS A SIGN.... OF WEAKNESS!". It's clear that both Kuzan and Garp had things nerfing their ability to fight at 100%.
Garp for sure is the strongest. He’s got nothing but haki. No weapons. No devil fruit. No fantasy genetics like Lunarian fishman or giant. No physical enhancements like cybernetics or biotech. Not even bare handed martial arts like 6 powers or fishman karate. He is literally just a bar brawler with insane athleticism and mastery of haki, yet he’s on par with people that use weapons and devil fruits on top of that. Narratively this might not be true but on paper power scaling wise he’s got to have the best haki and the best athletic stats to be top tier despite having such a small combat arsenal.

It's crazy that some people in the comments can't tell the difference between current power and former power, yes aokiji can defeat current garp and that's completely valid because current garp is still among the top fighters, but hands down garp from 20 years ago would destroy him and that's a fact considering that man clashed with roger countless times meaning he could fight whitebeard aswell. I'd argue give aokiji another 10 years and he would be terrifyingly close to prime garp and that is a fight i would have loved to see but will never happen sadly.

He wasn't afraid to face Shanks as well if needed, unlike Akainu and Kizaru for Benn Beckman.
After the timeskip, he had some ups and downs in terms of strength, but his lessons, courage and unwavering are some of his traits that inspire trough all.

He explained that you don't have freedom as an admiral. That's why Kizaru killed his friend, Kuzan quit, and Fujitora works in gray areas/gambles.
I think the strongest Marine in history is Kong. He likely ate the ancient Zoan King Kong fruit, and it's possible that Kong taught Garp the shockwave technique, which made Garp incredibly strong.

Two characters I will always defend power wise from the old era are Garp & Rayleigh 😤. I keep telling folks Garp was up there with Roger & Whitebeard. If as stated they were equal (10/10) then I would give prime Garp a 9.5-9.9 💯. I had him and Rayleigh as top 5 during Roger era.. Personally I don't think another marine will ever reach his lvl. Koby will get strong but I feel will only surpass Garp possibly in ideology. Garp as we saw let his job win (which isn't wrong 😅) but i feel Koby will not let a job dictate what he does similar to Garp but better. I'm kinda happy Oda doesn't rush and show us old era characters or flashback fights so he can potentially develop more broken haki abilities 😅

I’d say during marineford garp was for sure stronger but after the time skip it’s not crazy to assume akainu got stronger especially from a haki bloom with his fight with kuzan.

I don't see Roger turning himself to just any marine or without a fight. Even though Roger was sick. He will only turn himself to a worthy marine he respects. As pirates, respect is best earned by might. Everyone thinks that's Garp, but my money is Dragon. Gives a lot of reasons why Dragon quit being a marine and created the Revolutionary Army.
Garp had no confirmation of conquerors haki on Hachinosu but to be honest him not having it goes against the story somewhat.
His comment in marineford makes it seem as though the color of the supreme king can be inherited. That plus dueling with Roger to the death and Sengoku having it as well, it’s hard to imagine him not having it. Otherwise great video

@Shadowwarrior996 the Battleship bag sequence only proves kuzan has the same physical strength as prime garp. They weren't using haki so garp still has far better haki and speed than kuzan. Garp was also severly nerfed in his fight with kuzan as he was getting attacked by an entire yonko crew, was stabbed through the stomach by shiryu mid fight, and had to split his focus between fighting kuzan and protecting koby and the others.

Garp in fact may of been the stronger of those guys, just based off his aura, the fact that he always sorta rides solo basically with fodder on his ship and has cornered roger and his crew, is considered to be a demon by pirates. Has pretty much the best physical haki feats without a doubt, doesn’t rely on any supreme grade blade or devil fruit.
Defeated the rocks pirates with roger(meaning whitebeard got his ass whopped in this ordeal whether people want to admit it or not! alongside killing rocks)

If imu was that strong this long drawn out war would’ve been over already. Imu is strong but was trembling from sensing joyboy’s old ass haki from the past. Imu has to many crazy forces to not have won this struggle already. It simply just means he’s not as strong as people would proclaim or else he wouldn’t be trying to acquire more power in the mother flame and a lot more other things.

Garp get rekt by Shiliew and Kuzan pretty easily, and he needed to be with Sengoku for take Shiki alone without his crew with all the Marines in their side and Shiki was able to destroy the half of the Map and Garp and Sengoku were injured as hell at the end of the Fight... So i dont think at prime they got Yonko lvls, or Shiki got the lvl of Roger but it will make no sense.
Garp is admiral or between Admirals/Commanders and Yonkos lvl in his prime, if he was Yonko lvl at prime, he will just beat Shiki alone, and makes worse damage at Beehive.
Prime Roger was stated to have been cornered by Garp numerous times and Roger personally calls out Sengoku and Garp as people worth fighting during the Oden flashback. Also Old Garp put Shiryu down in one attack and he was blitzing Aokiji several times throughout their fight and inflicting visible damage to him. We've never even seen someone have that kind of commanding fighting against an Admiral until Luffy fought Kizaru and Shanks made Aramaki shit his pants.
