Mihawk has never fought Shanks the Yonko so saying he’s stronger is just funny to me. People forget about timestamp or try to ignore it. Though Mihawk definitely has attacks stronger than divine departure, there is no proof that that was Shanks strongest either… I’m no shanks fan. I’m just logical…

This includes Shanks, and at least any other living Swordsman. It's not like Whitebeard or Kaido's title, it is as close as you can get to official confirmation. You can't really argue with that without being biased towards Shanks or something.

My only problem with Mihawk being top 1 is how much emphasis and concern shanks puts on bb when he had no fruit I personally think Mihawk and shanks are so equal that if bb can permanently scar shanks with nothing but knives then I’d have 1. BB 2. Mihawk 🔁 3. Shanks 🔁

Thank you for this video! People ask me why Mihawk is stronger than Shanks? But the question should be why isn't he(narratively)? There is nothing that prohibits Mihawk from being stronger than Shanks. It doesn't go against statements, it doesn't mess up the story. Sure, currently Shanks has the better feats, but Oda also still hasn't focused on Mihawk as he has recently been doing with Shanks. He is still saving him. And for good reason.

Mihawk wankers like to point out at Shanks being a swordsman but let's not forget that Shanks is denied a challenge just because he's missing a limb while accepting a far weaker pre-ts Zoro. Mihawk sought out Shanks, not the other way around. Shanks swordskill is so prominent that even being younger Mihawk still took notice and he wasn't disappointed. Shanks never care about the title but all of you cares about it so much. Shanks without any second thought, gave up his dominant arm for Luffy. Even with just one arm Shanks still is the gauge the Marines used to scale Mihawk's swordskill. Being handicap makes him an unworthy opponent in a duel, but doesn't mean he is under him. Title is given to someone who worked for it. I'm not saying the title is useless, but Shanks is beyond of just a swordsman, he's a Yonko now.

Mihawk's eyes are the same as imu's, zunesha's and cavendish's with hakuba. These eyes may represent some kind of curse/restriction: cavendish's is self explanatory, zunesha's is the punishment given to him from the void century that was only broken after momonosuke gave him the order to attack jack, not too sure about imu's, but mihawk's was definitely a restriction from getting stronger

People always hype up Shanks as the Observation Killer, who’s Observation do y’all think he was cancelling? Pretty sure that was “Hawkeye”, wouldn’t be surprised if Mihawk has the best Observation in the entire verse. I also think that was shown in Marineford, when Luffy saw the vision of his arms getting cut off, wouldn’t be surprised if Mihawk put that vision in his head. I could see his Observation being so advanced that he can give other people visions of Future Sight (which could be incredibly confusing/deceiving in a high-level fight, i.e. vs Shanks).

Fax, one thing this also confirms is that yes, Shanks did get weaker due to the loss of his arm. And if he did have his arm Mihawk would still have an equal. Since the databooks also refer to Shanks and Mihawk of having the strongest rivalry, and since unlike individual power, rivarlies are timeless, so theres no reason to why it wouldn't apply to rivalries such as roger and garp. So it really puts mihawk and shanks into a different strength perspective and that yes, luffy surpassing these legends would make him above roger as well

There’s a big difference between those sentences. What the Vivre Card meant was that he reached a point where all the people that were « challenging him » were no match. The sentence only refers to the swordsmen that Mihawk had « found/met »

I currently have him top 1. For now, Shanks is the strongest person we know after the death/defeat of Kaido, Big Mom, and WB. We also know Mihawk > Shanks. It isnt a stretch to put him top 1 in verse currently.

i hate to "erm actually" but him giving up his arm is a more symbolic thing. by "giving his arm to the next generation" i think he really meant that he was no longer looking to be king of the pirates himself. That manga panel you shared for Mihawk referencing the “distance” between WB and Mihawk does not say “the distance seems rather short.” On the wsj app it says “i just want to measure the distance between us and that man” meaning the slash was a test and the answer is Jozu. WB did not lift a finger or move a muscle to block that attack bc he KNEW his son was watching for him. Thats the difference between WB and Mihawk the Lone Swordsman. Great video still! Another correction, Kaido’s haissaikai is not called a meito, it is called a “legendary weapon” by Oda, which is not the same thing. Hassaikai does not have a rank (位列, iretsu?), though if Kaidou were to leave the weapon behind, it would be called a "legend" Not that big a deal just adding it in
The Viz/WSJ app translations at times aren’t accurate and the one on the screen for the Mihawk sensing WB moment is more accurate. The interpretation of Jozu or WBP being the answer is fine but the point of what Mihawk was questioning was about Whitebeard’s power in contrast to everyone else.

A naginata is a polearm but it is also a sword. It literally was a sword mounted on a pole to give it longer reach when fighting calvary. It is made with the same technique as a katana and in later periods they would trim the hilt to make wakizashi (short swords). The name naginata literally translates to “mowing down sword”. White beard is a swordsman whether you like it or not.
Then that would mean that King is a swordsman because he has a sword, right? No, he isn't a swordsman because he doesn't use his sword alongside his abilities, he only uses it in specific situations, same with Whitebeard.

What I hate about the "World's Strongest" monickers, is that fanboys seem to be taking this as an absolute. Or at least the title holder somehow has a huge gap of power as let's say the "2nd strongest". Mihawk fans are the most guilty in this bias. Followed by WB and lastly, Kaido fans. In reality, even they have rivals that could potentially rival or even exceed them in power.
I like Shanks better but I personally think that both him and Mihawk are still rivals in overall combat capabilities and will have a 50/50 odds of winning for both sides.

The hype around shanks started BECAUSE of the mihawk hype, previously established as the world strongest swordsman (waaaaay before garp introduced the concept of the four emperors). If it turned out shanks was stronger, I'd feel kinda cheated. Mihawk is the measure of Shanks' strength, not the other way around. The stories about their duels served to establish early on that Shanks was near the top of the food chain, not THE top.
I agree with everything except was Mihawk said about WB, "measure he distance between us and that man" is not Mihawk saying WB is no longer he world's strongest. It has clear implications he is testing how strong the Worlds Strongest Man is because he doesn't know. No one knew about WB weakening until they saw him with all his medical equipment and medication.
I never said Mihawk said WB wasn’t the worlds strongest only that he’s not what he used to be as in he fell off compared to his prime. WB didn’t pull up the Marineford with his medical equipment so Mihawk just sense the difference in strength in strength being less than he expected from the man once rivalled Roger.

@@whatthatbout4629well, zoro beat king extreme diff. Marco was fighting king and queen simultaneously to a draw. The fight may not have been as flashy but it was extremely impressive. I put zoro above Marco for his feats against kaido. But he isn’t completely outclassing Marco either.

Then sanji steps in for chopper and starts to fight queen. We don’t see marco again until he’s defeated/out of stamina. And sanji is also said to have fought queen and king. that would mean that king was able to defeat marco 1v1 offscreen and regroup with queen to temporarily take out Sanji as well. Meaning Marco
Rayleigh says he hadn’t picked up his sword in a long time. It’s reasonable to suggest he hasn’t used it since the Roger Pirates disbanded. And unlike Sengoku or Garp, Rayleigh wasn’t active at all as a pirate or fighter.

Realistically the only argument for Mihawk being that high is narrative, he has to be stronger than Zoro until EoS pretty much. Aside from that he has a duel where he maybe beat Shanks more than 12 years ago before he was a Yonko. In the current story his best feats are against Vista and Jozu, it doesn't even look that good. I still believe he'll be somewhere around Yonko level, but putting him in the top 1 is like putting Dragon or Imu top 1, sure they could be but until they show something it's just stupid.
His best feats are the black blade that only one other person achieved. And that person is regarded as a god in the land of wano. And also the fact that he is bored in the war of the best, fighting multiple strong people and going home without a scratch on him.
Another argument i've seen is that Mihawk was going all out in Marineford due to what he says "Sorry Red Hair this power knows no restraint" however there's much more you could dissect like the fact that he never uses a named move throughout the war or even that it could be Yoru because it's been stated in the story that blades have kind of a mind of their own which could lead to this. Also this might be a hot take but i'd say even when it comes to all time, Mihawk is in that conversation due to statements *really* hyping his power like him having the strongest blade which should include Ace and Murakumogiri who can both tank the full power of Roger and prime Whitebeard on top of him and Shanks being called the strongest rivals which you can argue puts them above most of the old gens. But that's just my view on it tho

Though Mihawk is the strongest sword user, I don’t think narratively he can be the strongest period. Oda throws around “the strongest” title a lot. Whitebeard is the worlds strongest man, kaido is the worlds strongest beast, Mihawk is the worlds strongest swordsman, etc. But who among these guys is the “actual” strongest? They’re the strongest within certain categories and for certain qualities, but these aren’t absolute statements. I don’t think Mihawk scales to primebeard or Roger. He loses to them both extreme diff. I think both he and shanks are extreme to insane diffing onigashima kaido 1v1. What is for sure unquestionable is that Mihawk has the best sword technique. But sword technique isn’t all there is to combat. There’s other weapons, devil fruits, haki, different types of martial arts, etc. Mihawk is the top sword user among sword users, and if sword fighting was the only kind of fighting that existed in one piece, then he’d be the strongest. But there’s other kinds of combat in the one piece verse. I think conquerors haki is the main thing that is keeping Mihawk from being decisively above people like Roger, prime beard, and debatably also shanks. Conquerors haki seems to just be a massive step above armament haki. White beard, Roger and shanks never did anything as sophisticated as redirecting bullet trajectories with a blade. But they have demonstrated feats of destructive power far beyond what Mihawk has so far by simply taking a wild swing with conquerors infused blades. There’s a difference between using swords to channel your haki and using haki to enhance your swords. Roger white beard and shanks do the former whereas Mihawk does the latter. I guess we’ll only truly know where things will fall when oda decides to draw it out. Until then he’ll make basic and very important details unknown just to keep generating discussion.
How can Mihawk be the Strongest in a World where the 4 Emperor lives, where Fujitora lives, where Shiriu of the Rain lives, where the Fagarland lives, where the Bald Gorosei Lives, where the 5th Comander of WB pirate dual flour swords lives, where a new mysterious Swordsman introduced in the last Chapter lives,..... Did Mihawk defeated all of them ? of Course No. so why he's has the strongest swordman title if it's not true. ? Remember Mihawk is just one of the seven warlords He can't defeat a Yonko, He didn't stand a chance against Old WB.

There is nothing that prohibits Mihawk from being stronger than Shanks. It doesn't go against statements, it doesn't mess up the story. Sure, currently Shanks has the better feats, but Oda also still hasn't focused on Mihawk as he has recently been doing with Shanks. He is still saving him. And for good reason.

Even with just one arm Shanks still is the gauge the Marines used to scale Mihawk's swordskill. Being handicap makes him an unworthy opponent in a duel, but doesn't mean he is under him. Mihawk's eyes are the same as imu's, zunesha's and cavendish's with hakuba. These eyes may represent some kind of curse/restriction: cavendish's is self explanatory, zunesha's is the punishment given to him from the void century that was only broken after momonosuke gave him the order to attack jack, not too sure about imu's, but mihawk's was definitely a restriction from getting stronger

I also think that was shown in Marineford, when Luffy saw the vision of his arms getting cut off, wouldn’t be surprised if Mihawk put that vision in his head. Another correction, Kaido’s haissaikai is not called a meito, it is called a “legendary weapon” by Oda, which is not the same thing.
Hassaikai does not have a rank (位列, iretsu?), though if Kaidou were to leave the weapon behind, it would be called a "legend"

The Viz/WSJ app translations at times aren’t accurate and the one on the screen for the Mihawk sensing WB moment is more accurate. The interpretation of Jozu or WBP being the answer is fine but the point of what Mihawk was questioning was about Whitebeard’s power in contrast to everyone else.
Haissaikai is listed as an ungraded weapon just like Law’s Kikoku in the Road to Laughtale booklet so it is a Meito we just don’t know the rank.

A naginata is a polearm but it is also a sword. It literally was a sword mounted on a pole to give it longer reach when fighting calvary. What I hate about the "World's Strongest" monickers, is that fanboys seem to be taking this as an absolute. Or at least the title holder somehow has a huge gap of power as let's say the "2nd strongest". Mihawk fans are the most guilty in this bias. Followed by WB and lastly, Kaido fans. In reality, even they have rivals that could potentially rival or even exceed them in power.
I like Shanks better but I personally think that both him and Mihawk are still rivals in overall combat capabilities and will have a 50/50 odds of winning for both sides.

Even if if it's "in name and actuality", he's most likely not above rivals like Shanks by a landslide. As Mihawk is not the only monster in the OP world. Aside from Shanks, monsters like Whitebeard, Rayleigh, Garp, Big Mom are still around despite their old age. Kaido's also a monster with the "World's Strongest" monicker, Luffy who just got a divine power, Black Beard who keeps getting stronger devil fruits and even the Admirals are not some chumps to scoff at.

The hype around shanks started BECAUSE of the mihawk hype, previously established as the world strongest swordsman (waaaaay before garp introduced the concept of the four emperors). If it turned out shanks was stronger, I'd feel kinda cheated. Mihawk is the measure of Shanks' strength, not the other way around. The stories about their duels served to establish early on that Shanks was near the top of the food chain, not THE top.

I never said Mihawk said WB wasn’t the worlds strongest only that he’s not what he used to be as in he fell off compared to his prime. Rayleigh says he hadn’t picked up his sword in a long time. It’s reasonable to suggest he hasn’t used it since the Roger Pirates disbanded. And unlike Sengoku or Garp, Rayleigh wasn’t active at all as a pirate or fighter.

Realistically the only argument for Mihawk being that high is narrative, he has to be stronger than Zoro until EoS pretty much. Aside from that he has a duel where he maybe beat Shanks more than 12 years ago before he was a Yonko. In the current story his best feats are against Vista and Jozu, it doesn't even look that good. I still believe he'll be somewhere around Yonko level, but putting him in the top 1 is like putting Dragon or Imu top 1, sure they could be but until they show something it's just stupid.
His best feats are the black blade that only one other person achieved. And that person is regarded as a god in the land of wano.
And also the fact that he is bored in the war of the best, fighting multiple strong people and going home without a scratch on him.
Another argument i've seen is that Mihawk was going all out in Marineford due to what he says "Sorry Red Hair this power knows no restraint" however there's much more you could dissect like the fact that he never uses a named move throughout the war or even that it could be Yoru because it's been stated in the story that blades have kind of a mind of their own which could lead to this. Also this might be a hot take but i'd say even when it comes to all time, Mihawk is in that conversation due to statements *really* hyping his power like him having the strongest blade which should include Ace and Murakumogiri who can both tank the full power of Roger and prime Whitebeard on top of him and Shanks being called the strongest rivals which you can argue puts them above most of the old gens. But that's just my view on it tho

Oda throws around “the strongest” title a lot. Whitebeard is the worlds strongest man, kaido is the worlds strongest beast, Mihawk is the worlds strongest swordsman, etc.
But who among these guys is the “actual” strongest? They’re the strongest within certain categories and for certain qualities, but these aren’t absolute statements.
I don’t think Mihawk scales to primebeard or Roger. He loses to them both extreme diff. I think both he and shanks are extreme to insane diffing onigashima kaido 1v1.
What is for sure unquestionable is that Mihawk has the best sword technique. But sword technique isn’t all there is to combat. There’s other weapons, devil fruits, haki, different types of martial arts, etc. Mihawk is the top sword user among sword users, and if sword fighting was the only kind of fighting that existed in one piece, then he’d be the strongest. But there’s other kinds of combat in the one piece verse.
I think conquerors haki is the main thing that is keeping Mihawk from being decisively above people like Roger, prime beard, and debatably also shanks. Conquerors haki seems to just be a massive step above armament haki. White beard, Roger and shanks never did anything as sophisticated as redirecting bullet trajectories with a blade. But they have demonstrated feats of destructive power far beyond what Mihawk has so far by simply taking a wild swing with conquerors infused blades. There’s a difference between using swords to channel your haki and using haki to enhance your swords. Roger white beard and shanks do the former whereas Mihawk does the latter.
I guess we’ll only truly know where things will fall when oda decides to draw it out. Until then he’ll make basic and very important details unknown just to keep generating discussion.
