      I use lumetri colors (built into premiere). Devin does some of his shots in camera already graded with a color profile but for the RED i assume he uses an adobe program like speed grade. Then again it could be done in premiere with Lumetri.

      watisdis84 Yeah but the main point of his video was that you can't do in post production what you do in camera and he does the majority in camera ...

  • @lowercvse

    Loved seeing how you position footage on a timeline rather than go through it in the project folder or a media folder but it makes me realize how much time I've spent going through clips one by one and marking ins and outs before adding to the timeline haha.
    Also: I produce 21:9 content even though I don't have an ultra-wide monitor yet. Have you or any other members of the team thought of switching over to 21:9 format? The only con I could imagine is that the majority of media consumption is done on a 16:9 screen but I've always loved the look of 21:9 and/or 2.35:1 (even before I made videos).

    Use Q and W shortcuts to ripple cut left or right, it makes editing so much faster
    Also i changed zoom in/out shortcuts for A and S, D to select clip under cursor line, F to ripple delete and E to cut under playing line. So you can edit without leaving right hand from mouse

    AWESOME! Ive never been taught how to edit like that but i do my editing the exact same way. throw it all in the time line, go through it and raise my favorite clips to a higher timeline and move my final clips to the right of everything.

  • @avene
    @avene 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Here's a productivity tip for you. Switching between the V and C keys, moving the cursor to the position you want to cut, clicking the mouse button to slice the clip, and finally hitting the V key to switch back to the normal cursor, is way too many steps for such a simple task! Slicing the clip at the current cursor position just by holding ctrl + K is so much faster and more efficient. Or better yet, assign a single key to the task. I just use the S key, the same as Vegas Pro.

    • @rainbow28453
      @rainbow28453 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was just about to comment exactly that... Idk i always get frustrated when i see big filmakers editing with razor tool. Another productivity tip is to press Alt and scrool to zoom in and out ( i didnt watch the whole video so maybe Devin said that too) I've been using Premiere for a while so i have lots of little things that make me be able to edit quicker :)

    • @avene
      @avene 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @rainbow28453
      @rainbow28453 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      :) Another trick that not many poeple use is to asign the 'next edit' and 'Previous edit' buttons to Q and E (Easy for me cuz im a gamer and my hand is always at WASD by default) and that way its easier to skip back and forth without using the mouse.

    Dude! This was super helpful! I do a lot of montage videos with HOURS of footage and was looking for a good way to efficiently edit them. Thanks! Do you think in a future video you could cover the pacing of edits? Often times, I capture lots of cool clips and want to use them all, but then my video just has way too many quick cuts. Any advice?

    Surprised you didn't show how to create proxy files... then, you wouldn't need to worry about the capacity of your computer to handle video files.
    Omitting the value of proxy files with PPRO is a fundamental flaw when starting your edit and much more valuable than discussing resolution.

    Questions:
    1. What do the colored bars on the timeline represent? I've had clips that were red and yellow. For the red, it turns green after i render the clips but for the yellow, i don't need to render it.
    2. When i render my files, it gets saved in weird places on my computer and takes up like 30% of my storage space,. I know theres a setting where i can store it but not sure where... Please let me know, thanks in advance!
    3. Whats the difference between Adobe Premiere Pro vs Adobe Premiere Creative Cloud?
    Tips:
    Towards the end when you clicked the clip and dragged it across the timeline, you can actually click and hold the clip and press the minus sign to shrink the timeline and drag it to the end instead of waiting for the timeline to scroll to the end.
    Comments:
    Amazing tutorial. I appreciate how you took the time to explain everything you were doing and didn't rush through it. I've learned a lot from this and hope to see tutorial #3 sometime soon.
    Thank you!

    I'm curious. Why edit the footage in the timeline like that? Why not for each clip bring it into the source monitor and mark out the best bits there as clips, and put those clips into bins? You end up with lots of bins and lots of clips, sure... but you also have an uncluttered timeline.

      The code for handling red footage is extremely well-optimized on windows and mac, neither can play 6k smoothly at greater than 1/2 rez even with a titan x GPU. Without a GPU, the best you could hope for is 1/8th. Besides that, 1/2 rez is still 3k and 1/4 rez is still more than 720p
