How YouTube Has (NOT) Changed My Life: The Unvarnished, Brutal Truth No One Talks About.

  • Most “How TH-cam Changed My Life” videos focus on success stories, personal growth, and building a community. But my TH-cam journey has been different. I started this channel to share my weight loss journey and connect with others struggling with PCOS, weight loss challenges, and lifestyle changes. Despite following TH-cam growth strategies, using expert advice, and trying to grow my channel, I haven’t experienced the transformation that others describe.
Instead, my reality as a small TH-camr has been navigating self-doubt, setbacks, and struggling to gain traction. If you’re thinking about starting a TH-cam channel, here’s an honest look at the ups and downs that come with being a content creator. Not every TH-cam story is a success story, and that’s okay.

I’ve been at this a little over 3 years now and I have never liked the idea of “picking a niche”. If I only made videos on one subject I would get bored very quickly. My channel might be bigger if I did that, but I want the freedom to make whatever videos I want. Best of luck to your channel, it seems that TH-cam is pushing this video out to a large audience!

I think I can offer some help. I just looked over your videos and your content's subject matter is all over the place. For starters, you've got to pick a niche, a very specific niche, and stick to that. When you have various topics, it confuses the algorithm and TH-cam doesnt know who to push your content to. After you make 15-30 videos on the same niche, the algorithm starts to "get it" and then it begins to send it out to people. Secondly, if you want to get paid, you want to pick a high paying niche, which are topics like finance, relationships, motivation, health, etc. Third, consistency is king. Try to upload as often as possible, but at LEAST 3 times a week. TH-cam will pick up on your pattern, and begin to zero in on your channel. Also, your subscribers will begin to count on your videos as well. Hope this helps, and good luck on getting monetized :)

That's the issue, the niche, thing. If I have to pick a high paying niche, a popular niche, or some small niche just to get views then I don't want to be on TH-cam. I'm about individuality and creativity so being pigeon holed in to a small niche isn't for me. I have debated with myself over this advice I see in almost every "How to succeed on TH-cam" video. I've also heard the upload 3 times a week, but with a full time job and other life things sometimes I can't upload that much. So, that's why I waver on quitting, the things everyone says to do aren't for me. So in turn, I feel TH-cam isn't for me.

I would still say stick with it. Do it as a Hobbie until a more positive drive hits ya. It can be daunting at times that's why when I came in knowing nothing about TH-cam I was just creating but if I want a space on this platform at all (even without the money), I knew I'd have to step up. I'm not well ATM as I'm home recovering from a stroke. I have no money to purchase any equipment or to even stage a nice room in my house. I am 49 and not tech savi at all but you know what. I have passion. I have a message and if I could bless one person a week, baby girl I'll show up for them. So create until you find you space and launch out but dont ever give up❤

      @@CreateSparklesStudioexactly, I don't niche either...
I've known since I was a kid that I was going to testify, speak, share things about my extremely traumatic childhood, overcoming, gaining spiritual knowledge along the way, be a part of sharing knowledge and wisdom, experience and helping the collective frequency raise..
That kind of thing..., but this was long before social media, and of course I didn't know how I was going to go about it,..
I'm talking seeds as far back as the late 80s and 90s when I was growing up, so I always thought maybe I would write a book, or of course I love singing writing songs getting studio time putting together music things like that...
But then when social media started becoming popular first it was blogging, and I thought maybe I would learn how to blog, I started studying and I thought wow I could do those things, they teach you to talk about what you know, and wow I thought what could be better
Then getting to express myself because, growing up in immense trauma that's one thing that's extremely important to a person like that, it's like you're almost born with this undying passion, for self-expression.
So for me it's always been extremely deep and passionate drive, ... But then social media start getting bigger and bigger, I put the blogging thing aside and
I just started jumping on Facebook, just talking to the camera like I was a friend but I knew deep in my mind that I was sewing seeds and just getting practice because, the idea of making a TH-cam channel had already come to me
That was probably back in 2017..
Me making my way to a TH-cam channel has a long long history that predates social media...
I was on Myspace almost 20 years ago, been on Facebook for 15 years, and I've had my TH-cam channel for almost four...
And I wanted to somehow find a way to take this burning drive and passion for self-expression, and to share whatever knowledge and wisdom I gained growing up, in the streets running away institutions, family with mental illness all this stuff
And somehow, turn this passion for self-expression & creativity, into a way that others could see it and it could reach others, but also at the same time maybe eventually earn some income, for damn sure, ..
no shame about it ! yes I would love some passive income eventually.
Because I also struggle with terrible anxiety disorder,.. and for other reasons it's difficult to work regular jobs..
So when I first started the channel, it started out about me it's about MY life,.. I am the niche,!
But at the same time, I have so many other passions and interests, that I like to share..
& yet, all of these are things that make up my personality, and somehow I like to weave that in together, to tell the story of me...
I love fashion , fashion history, cooking and food, and certain people from history or celebrities pop culture that have influenced me or changed my life somehow ....
It goes on and on. SO much more than just me, and psychological stuff.
And I like reporting on all of that as well! Sigh....
I knew when I first started,
That well, my life ,...no one's really going to know me, and while yes there is some valuable experience, insights I can share, still ..
I knew I still needed to also find trending topics and more popular stories to report on as well, and weave it all together !!
So in the beginning I also, became passionate about a certain crime case and a woman who was being ridiculed unfairly, a victim..&
I also began to make videos on that, about her and about the case and within those videos I also talked about myself...,
my life and how I related to those things...
And why I was even so passionate about covering her life and her case in the first place...
And that might annoy some people or make them angry, and no I am not projecting myself onto other people or anything like that... in these videos but ...
It's all about elevated perspective to me and from my perspective
I am simply sharing parts of my life and people I admire, or things I stand up for, and making points that all work together..
It's a bit different than many other channels might cover certain cases.,
I know some people might come expecting
Just a complete report on that person's life history and, that's not exactly how I do it
because I really don't want to be like every other TH-cam channel. They're are already zillions doing just that,...
I would be bored too. feel boxed in, controlled.
Just exactly like what you're talking about !!!
I like being unique and I like reflecting my own soul and personality in the way I present information / put together videos...
And I know the algorithm doesn't like that as much and it may confuse some viewers...
But when I did that strategy, the first year starting the channel,.. covering that woman and the crime case, and talking about my life experiences within it
it did increase my views massively.. every day I checked my channel, I would have hundreds of new subscribers and view counts..
Covering that first case is what really got my channel a little bit on the map and of course got me past my 1000 subscribers and my watch time and got me monetized .
I'm now at 2200, but things have died way down...!!!
I don't get nearly as many views and I've only made $200 in the past year...
Mainly because I had to drop off of making content for a few months and I hate that but
      I'm sure it's also because...
I'm going to do what I want to do from my soul, I do not care to be like every cookie cutter , ...jumping on every trend ...
And thinking that all they can talk about is stuff like """how to get to a thousand subscribers overnight"""
"" how to make money doing nothing""" or finance,...& TH-cam tips.
Yes I do participate in trends sometimes that's fun, in my shorts, and I discussed trending topics sometimes..
      but
I've got to do my channel my way,!!
it's about my soul, my life and MY unique perspectives, how I see other cases , celebs, people I admire, etc, and relate to them!
And so these people going around telling people they strictly need to Niche down, honestly there is
no ""one ""strategy to conquer TH-cam!
And yeah if they're just on here to get some money, be like every other person and not express any of their own soul then that's one thing ...
And even then, if people are just on here for the money only, they are going to be disappointed because it's a long haul, it takes a lot a lot of work
And believing in your content,.. believing in your message and your vision and goals.!!!!
And keep going through those times where there are no views and where it is a struggle
Keep applying yourself to learning things new things everyday, and more consistency in whatever you can be consistent in...
So that was my deal, heck yes I want some money,..
I'm sitting here right now can't even buy groceries, need another car, going through Hell, of course I want to make some money ...
And while I don't mind participating in certain trends sometimes and doing some things
, I still have to stick to my own path with TH-cam... My own passions,... !! Period.
And somehow find a way to make them all tie in together, my stuff is primarily psychological and spiritual..
I could never just talk about me all the time,...
but at the same time, I could never just sit there and talk about things I'm not interested in or teach things just for money either !
So I have to find a way to wrap it all in together somehow., I do a little of it all...
      I agree with you
Also Dan Koe has a great Channel and he's the person who talks about " you are the niche"...
And how it's not necessarily so important to Niche down.
      Keep going! 💪 😊
      .

I’m sorry to hear this. I checked out your channel as well, and it seems a bit scattered in terms of content.
Here are two quick thoughts. I run two other channels, and from my experience, TH-cam typically needs 10-20 similar videos to understand your channel’s theme and start directing the right audience to your content. That’s the first challenge.
The second challenge is creating content that resonates with this audience. This involves thorough keyword research and experimenting with thumbnail designs that are most likely to grab attention. I’ve had success by focusing on three things: a strong thumbnail design, a well-researched keyword title, and then creating a video that aligns with both. Without an effective thumbnail, it’s hard to attract viewers, and without strong keyword alignment, it’s difficult for TH-cam to understand and promote your content. Focusing on these elements can make a big difference in reaching the right audience.
Hope this helps! Please don’t give up. It’s like a puzzle. Once you figure it out it can be quite transformative.

The other reason is I think it's a good, fun hobby to have leading into retirement (if I ever get to retire). However, I more often than not, will be researching how I can improve my channel instead of endlessly scrolling or watching tv 🙌

We started our channel about a month ago. We want to retire in Italy and thought it would be fun to document the journey so that we could also help others who are wanting to. We are having so much fun, but it is hard work, and it not an instant process. Thankfully, I wasn't expecting it to take off, so we're just here for the ride. Good look to all of the smaller channels out there. You got this.

There are ways to fast track to 1,000 subs and 4,000 hours. One of them is just simply run ads on your video. I paid about $170 on 1 video in August with a Google ad. It shot me from 300 subs to over 3000 in 10 days. I had like 40 hours watch time on a channel I've had since 2008. The ad pushed me to almost 500 hours, which is an 8th of the required.

    • @CreateSparklesStudio
      @CreateSparklesStudio  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

I read somewhere about using Google ads but if you do the watch hours and subs don't count. I'm not 100% certain because I didn't research it fully. But it might be worth looking into using. Thanks

      @VividAbominations 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@CreateSparklesStudio That's what I thought but where it shows my goal targets in YT Studio it shows I hit the 1000 subs, and it shows all the hours counting. Even if the subs count and the hours do not, those 3000 people will likely see my next videos which will not be from an ad.

Doing TH-cam requires a plan for both monetization and content production. I’m noticing a lot of new creators that don’t even know what their niche is. I don’t think relying on views is going to work for most people and the idea of niche gets a negative stigma. It’s simply saying what you’re most known for but you can make content outside of your niche but you have to establish yourself first. There needs to be some common through line that youre known for otherwise you will struggle to build a community, attract brands and further confuse the algorithm. with the focus shifting to engagement that’s all that really matters. If you were using your channel to sell a high ticket item to viewers i think you would have a very different perspective. Best of luck, I’ve been doing it 10 years and i may have never gone viral or even had 50k views but what i have gained has been pretty incredible with a small audience of the right people
